    Great video, propane is nice and clean. I use the propane option with a tree and lantern for normal camping, but the stove is also part of my emergency kit. I keep white gas for that because of its compact size and shelf life. Dual fuel is a great option. Thanks for sharing. Good stuff!!!

    Great info. I recently learned about that propane converter for the 2-burner stove. Search for Stansport propane converter, I found it at Walmart.com . I've been testing mine recently during MN weather down to -15°F. The stove lights right up instantly using the converter and a 1-pound propane canister. With the liquid gas tank, I often fiddle around for 5 minutes or more trying to get the thing heated up and burning. It's frankly awesome to have instant stove heat when want it in hunting camp for instance.

    one word of caution on white gas conversion those, make sure your unit if you have a 3 burner unit is not setup for the small two burner units as the jet is not large enough to feed the older 3 burner units with all the burners going. i've had some luck with using an old empty generator tube on the body of those units, but the older unregulated units typically were made for the triple burner units off the gate. My alumimum 443 with 428 burners(there interchangable with no alteration) has no trouble heating a 16 inch dutch oven and 12 inch one, and since its gas tank is leaking air, this is a awesome setup as for as little as that thing weighs, it sure holds a lot of weight.

    Joel, I just inherited an old stove similar to yours. It has the 4 inch long adapter you have with a permanent attached hose with the other end set up with the Male external thread for a standard propane tank. I can't recall offhand if this is the new style or if it is even still the old style. Anyway, can I get an adapter for this end to hook to the small green propane tank. I need an adapter one end accept Male style propane thread and one end small green tank. Thanks.

    I have always used a propane stove, but it appears that the gas is much hotter. I believe I'm going to switch to fuel this year. Where can I purchase that propane generator that you showed? Do they simply come with the stoves, are they a Coleman option, or is it an after market option offered by a third party?

  • @crazykincardineite

    The difference is not the tank, the difference is the generator itself. Also in the USA most liquid fuel stoves and lanterns will burn gasoline, in Canada, it is not recommended because the additives in the fuel are different. I have a Dual Fuel Lantern that I bought in the US and in the instructions it states not to use Canadian gasoline in it, because the additives will damage the unit.

  • @jimb2753

    I have a dual burner 12,000 BTU Century Tool camp stove. I have a hose that extends from the stove to a regulator which screws into a 5 gal. propane tank 3 port tree. A regulator that attaches to the tree is leaking gas around the diaphragm seal and must to be replaced. Any idea where I can get a reasonably priced regulator to retrofit? Century Tool wants $25 ($14 of that is shipping and handling). I can buy a new stove for $50-$75. So on one end of the regulator is a small propane tank female thread that attaches to the tree and the other end of the regulator hooks up to a standard extension hose like in this video which extends to the camp stove and is screwed into that port.

    In my area a gallon of coleman fuel is now $12/gal.
    1 gallon of coleman fuel = 6 lbs of propane. So it's still cheaper than the individual propane 1 lb cans.
    You're right though. Here you can get 20lb of propane for around $12 so overall that's the cheapest option.
    Cool video!

    • @MrRayMac1963

      Thereal111t Add to that, white gas has an almost limitless shelf life. I run propane for normal camping, but to me its just good planning to keep a few gallons around just in case. When the propane runs out, you can still be cooking.

    • @wanderingwade8877
      @wanderingwade8877 9 років тому

      MrRayMac1963 To my shelf life question Coleman support sent me this message:
      An un-opened container of Coleman® Fuel stored in a dry area with no rapid extreme changes in temperature will remain viable for five to seven years. An opened container stored in the same area will remain viable for up to two years though will be at its best if used within a year. Coleman® Propane Cylinders can be stored indefinitely in a dry area. The propane fuel inside the cylinder will not break down.

      Wandering Wade I have seen white fuel much older then that used without problem. A buddy found a few sealed gallons his dad bought and stored in a shed on their farm. His dad passed over 15 years ago so he has no idea how old it actually is, but It burned flawlessly. If you have limited space to store emergency supplies, it works.

    • @wanderingwade8877
      @wanderingwade8877 9 років тому

      MrRayMac1963 Thanks for the reply. I saw this comment elsewhere:
      "I have consistently used Coleman fuel that is at least 10 years old without problem. It may be slightly less volatile than new but it still works fine and doesn’t seem to clog my MSR or my old Optimus 111B stoves. After I open a new gallon container I immediately transfer extra fuel into several one liter Sigg fuel bottles and it lasts for many years this way. In other words, I do NOT store the fuel in the gallon container once it has been opened."

  • @philindeblance

    Great options! great vid!
    Will the propane boost the BTU for faster water boil? I used the fuel and it had some kind of leak and the entire thing went up in flames. It had leaked fuel into the stove floor and it eventually got hot and took flame. So I'm done with the liquid fuel! But would like to know if I should ditch this for a higher BTU stove or will this get more than the 8500 or so BTU the fuel gives. You! with all the propane gadgets would know something like this :-) Cheers!

    • @kennethwers
      @kennethwers 8 років тому

      +UnknownHandle UnknownHandle You must not know how to run a liquid fuel stove. Put the little handle up until the stove is warmer up. You will never have that happen again.

    • @philindeblance
      @philindeblance 8 років тому

      Can you please rephrase " Put the little handle up until the stove is warmer up", obviously my logic is not based on the understanding of how this stove works. thanks. I read the manual and it has no explanation as to why any of the steps are done. If they added explanations, perhaps people would understand better. Who likes taking orders without logical reasoning behind it ?:-)

    • @kennethwers
      @kennethwers 8 років тому

      +UnknownHandle UnknownHandle With the lever up it lets air from the tank blend with the gas to form a vapor until the generator(tube above the burner) gets hot enough to vaporize the gas. Then you turn the lever down.

      The btu or heat output with the propane conversion is very close to that of liquid fuel.

  • @98katman
    @98katman 7 років тому

    I own 4 Coleman stoves and about a dozen or so lanterns.
    This guy knows his sh!t unlike a few other videos on stoves I have seen.
    Coleman fuel or Crown camp fuel is more economical then propane in the 1 lb. bottles.
    The 20 lb. propane tank is by far the most economical to use. You can buy an adapter to refill 1lb. tanks from 20 lb. tanks. 20 lb. tanks are good and economical but heavy and bulky. By refilling 1 lb. tanks you have economy and portability.
    I don't recommend burning gasoline in duel fuel stoves/lanterns. Gasoline has benzene in it "a known carcinogen" and many have problems with it clogging generators. The propane converter made by Stansport works well. It will give the stove nearly identical heat "btu" output.
    Lastly don't use these stoves indoors regardless of fuel type. They use up oxygen and generate carbon-monoxide gas, both can kill you!

  • @MaxBlith
    @MaxBlith 11 років тому

    I picked up a 425 Coleman, the man had used unleaded gas in the stove. The tank was nearly ruined with rust and the generator was clogged up. It took me 4 hours to get the rust out of the tank and I will have to replace the tank cap. It was ruined by gum and rust. Even though they claim Duel fuel I would strongly suggest using White Gas over Unleaded. Especially if you have to cook in doors. The clogging is just not worth using cheaper gas...Besides if the shit hit the fan gas is hard to get.

    500 gasoline ( can burn Kerosene if preheated)
    530 gasoline
    Net cost of all these 40 to 60 year olds less than a new dual fuel 425.

    247 gasoline or kerosene
    242B gasoline
