@@KILLERKROW23 I don't understand why some companies charge ridiculous prices. This type of pricing is all over the Jeep world. Now, it's spreading through the Tacoma groups. This is also a red flag. There are a lot of examples of companies charging like this, having "extended lead times" that reach 3 month or more, then fold as a company, and take your money. I'm not saying this is one of those companies, but I am saying this is a red flag.
@@spartan8390 High end fiberglass with desirable features (e.g. windoors) still runs ~3K after installation + tax at a dealer. Few hundred more for steel, easy DIY doesnt seem that bad imo
Just got a Smartcap installed on my 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat yesterday. It looks really good, and the fact that it’s made of steel is a plus for me. The only thing I’m concerned about is the fit at the tailgate, since the Ranger doesn’t have a proper flat surface on the top of the tailgate, so the rubber gasket is slightly larger there to make the seal. The first rain storm will tell the tale. Also, the front gasket on the edge next to the cab of the truck has some spaces, which I will have to remedy with my own tuber gasket material. I got one of the utility compartments installed. It’s very handy, a good place to put a fire extinguisher and medical kit.
If this is your garage then Im a big fan of those wooden racks you built in the background. Looking at some metal shelving up until I saw this now heading to Home Depot for some 2x4s
A super simple and inexpensive way to build racks/workbench combo, for reference, the workbench area is 8' Wide. I've since added doors. I wanna say the whole setup cost me under $150.
Great video. Just installed one on my truck. Had no issues at all putting it together by myself. I wish I had done it on a table or bench instead of the floor though. Did need a friend to help set it on the truck. Super high quality and much stronger than a fiberglass top. Well worth the extra money.
I bought one for my 2020 TRD Toyota Tacoma and no snow is getting in and I live in the Rocky Mountains Canada so yeah it’s standing up to the weather. Thank you I want some of the accessories they’re not available to me yet but I would love to get the table which will fasten into the roof and I’m also very interested in the smart rack where the rack will actually drop down so you can load it and then slide it back up. I wish it was available in our paint schemes like it is in other countries so far in North America it’s only available in black I’m kind of lucky my truck is army green and has a lot of black features to it so it of works.
Thanks for the video. How do you clean the front window of the cap and the rear window on the truck ? Does the smartcap window have a feature to remove or fold down ?
I just went to the RSI website and was shocked to see that if you don't let them enable cookies on your browser they wont let you use their site! Business must be booming in South Africa, but that took them out of the running for me.
Was the break light harness hard to install? Would love to have seen that in the video. Picking mine up next week. Nonetheless, thanks for the video man!
Super simple , it’s a 5 min install. Just pop the taillight off and plug it in via the harness. I couldn’t find the harness while shooting the video. Found it after I was done.
@@GearheadJT where did you find the harness? How did you attach it? I just got mine and assembled it and am having trouble attaching the center brake light.
Couple questions on your RSI cap. Are you able to open/close your tailgate without opening the cap? Where did you order/buy your cap? Any regrets/reservation on your cap?
2023 Tacoma OR : you can open, but you cannot close. It does catch. Best to open the back and then close the gate. So quick access, you can rip open the gate and pull something out in a hurry, but will need to pop the cap to close the gate first for closing.
Cons: Doesn't have options to lock the windows from the inside, but sounds like RSI will be coming out with a solution in the future Pros: 1. Easy at home setup 2. Very easy to remove if needed (Had to haul a tall dresser and was able to pull the cap off in under 10 minutes) 3. This thing is built extremely sturdy and strong, once you see the quality up close you the price make sense. 4. Having the full opening doors is awesome for accessibility. I love everything about the cap, and it definitely turns heads as well. Definitely the best purchase I've made on my tacoma.
Informative, thanks... did you mention the weight of the cab? I may have missed it. Trying to decide if I get it, do I have to redo my Leaf Springs in the back. Thanks
I installed a new leaf pack made by Dakar and it worked out great for the extra constant weight of the cap. The cap weighs about 175 lbs. I didn’t really see the tail of the truck sag with the cap. But the oem leaf springs did look a little horizontal. I personally think it’s a good idea to get a more robust leaf pack. Especially if you plan to load it up with more stuff.
The link to the RSI SmartCap takes you to a more general page. Roughly how much for the Tacoma is my question? My budget for a cap is 2.5k. But i have the 6ft bed.
Links are fixed! The Cap I have was $3695, however they now offer a adventure series which doesn't have side windows, but includes molle panels on the inside for $3495.
Thank You! I love it, it's been the best purchase on the truck so far, I've seen some photos of the gladiator with the caps on them, and they look great!
Yes. Just get an inflatable “boot” to put between the cab and the canopy, inflate it and then you’ll have a sealed channel for air to travel between cab and canopy.
It doesn't, the cap can only be locked/unlocked from the outside. You could I guess open the little sliding window on the side and reach down to lock and unlock the hinges from the inside.

Well worth the price. This cap stands out above the competition. If you are worried about the price you cant afford it.

Thanks for putting together this video. It confirms that this is the cap that I want for my truck.
Thanks for watching!
It’s a nice cap but definitely not the most aesthetic. The Leer 100XR with sliding wind doors is by far more appealing with the color match.

Any issues with it coming loose or shifting while off-roading in the last 6months?
Great video man! Have you noticed any sagging in the rear? Or is your Icon AAL holding the weight well? Thanks!

The bedrail accessory rail is strong enough to hold the camper shell without any other mounting?
