KwikSet SmartKeys are not too smart when they fail. Here's how you "reset" the lock to fix a broken lock.

OK, finally a tutorial that is straight forward!!! THanks I was able to fix because of this vid

I did it the hard way. I disassembled the lock carefully by removing two barrel retainers. Then carefully opened the barrel and removed two tiny springs, a little part that goes on those springs, and five tiny teethed flat parts. Then inserted my key and figured out how the lock works. Then repositioned the five tiny teeth where they go (aligning a semicircle notch with indentations close to where they go. Then, reassembled the barrel and everything else in reverse order. Voila, it works like new. It took me like 5 hours total. I had already bought a new lock but decided to see if I could repair the old one. It's more entertaining than solving picture puzzles, I guarantee you that.

If a Smart Key cylinder spontaneously resets itself, then it's likely to do so again in the not-too-distant future, so the best option is to replace the whole lock with a decent quality pin-tumbler lock such as a Schlage B60N, or something similar, IMO.

Mine just seems to have died. Worked great, now that I’m going to the hospital and having people go in and out of my house and all of a sudden the deadbolt just dies like in this video 🙄

My kwikset smartkey deadbolt just jammed on me. I am throwing this piece of garbage away and going with a regular non smartkey system.

Im actually locked out my tool shed i dont have access to remove the whole thing. I left the keys inside. But i dont want to destroy it how can i open it while im locked out. Please help.

You will need to pick or bump the lock. I have videos of lock bumping on my channel. Good luck.

As I say in the video, as a rule I stay away from smartkey. Schlage is much better.
