You are absolutely corrrect about gurudwaras , when i was a student , I mostly have my food in gurudwara nearby my hostel. No one ever asked a single penny. Sikh people are really selfless people. God bless them

If I’m not mistaken Sikhism was essentially a mixture between Hindu, Muslim, and some Buddhist traditions.
TheRealHomie , our holy book the Guru Granth Sahib is compiled of scriptures from various religions which have mentioned.
The difference is Guru Nanak travelled more than any of those religions founders and saw much more suffering.
Thus he started the langar which those religions don’t have

It’s to help the suffering, the three main rules which Guru Nanak has asked us to live by is work hard, share what you can and recite gods name.

Thats why we are an amazement to whole world because all our religion teach us to be in service of fellow humans .

Sikhs are honestly one of the coolest groups of people in the world, hell their culture is built around martial preparation and maintaining weapons. This is due to the fact that for much of their existence they were constantly fighting off the attempts of the Muslim Mughals to forcibly convert them for anyone. As a consequence they are always expected to be armed in some fashion, this typically takes the form of an ornate dagger (though when I met a Sikh guy here in the US it was just the size of a pocket knife). Just thought that was a cool bit of information for anyone who didn't know.

I visited the same sikh temple you visited at 5:10 when I was in India, it was a lovely experience. I got to try making roti in the kitchen, I guess because I was a tourist, and then stayed to eat. There were people from various religions, and both Indian people and tourists - everyone is welcome. It's very heartwarming

Actually got goosebumps when you said the Sikh community was serving food outside too to the people who weren't able to/comfortable taking off their shoes and coming inside. The VIP ticket thing isn't a lie...they'll actually give you the VIP treatment, and u will get to touch the shrine (Damn, we have paid 1000 Rs for that once) but the point is it is WRONG to give VIP treatment to anyone...it's a temple after all. It is not supposed to be a business place.

Hindus can't even help their poor n needy brethren with the money they donate in their temples. Stop giving donations in big temples which are generally under state govt control n money is siphoned off by politicians and used for their own personal tasks mostly. Even in Tirupati, where donations are huge n humongous... The donated money is under control of non hindus which are on manahing committee appointed by state govt and that money cannot be used for welfare of needy ppl from the community. It could be used for minority appeasement... Who knows??

Karl that MRP thing happened to me too. It is not that they do this to foreigners only.
A guy charged Rs. 50 for coke n had actual MRP of 35. The excuse he used was that he uses refrigerator to keep it cool. So he was charging for that. Lame. We too face scammers.

And giving an additional 15 rupees to a poor vendor who's most probably still paying for his fridge is such a big deal 😏

Nasim we can't leave every freaking thing to the PM. He's got far bigger things to take care of than ensuring that Coca Cola is sold at MRP. It is for us citizens to take the initiative and highlight these crimes. There is a redressal system in place, but we just don't use it. We want someone else to do it for us (like the PM?).

My experience around India made me realize that people take advantage of our internal/ personal fears which makes us shell out immense amounts in mandirs, mosques however, the best part is never in a gurdwara. The Sikh population is what every Indian should be proud of because they have always been ready to defend our Motherland and are equally compassionate to give to society. Even today there is still a high population of Sikhs in the armed forces. Being an individual who does not accept the borders of religion I honour and respect the Sikhs all around the world.

In india in nov 2016 when we gov demonetized our 500 and 1K notes at that time we had a lot of tourists in india who suffered and many tourists were given shelters in Sikh Temples they were given free rooms, food and they also took there 500 notes and gave them 100rs notes in exchange so that they could shop a bit. In punjab people standing outside the banks to get there notes changed were served tea, pakoras and water by the near by sikh temples. These little things done by certain communities make a huge difference. We have organization called Khalsa aid that went to Syria and donated a lot to the people there and helped the fsmilies financially and gave livelihood to a lot of kids. Keep doing good and it will take come back to you cuz our guru said "Before being a sikh, Christian, muslim, hindu become a human first"

I'm from India and went touring around ancients temples for the first time in my life last year. Literally foreigners are robbed. Down south people from other countries are not even allowed to go into the deeper garbgrah (or womb room) of the temples, which I think is racist, but still they are charged insanely more than Indian citizens. In Sanchi a buddhist tourist spot near my hometown, tickets for Indians were for 20 or 30 rupees whereas for foreigners it as something like 700 rupees. All in the name of tourism but trust me, that money goes into corrupt pockets. So not only on the streets but also in the system foreigners are being robbed.
First Look what foreigners did to India for centuries, then talk about it. We are each one for himself and God for us all. When you consider yourself so intelligent , when please give me account of what happened to American Indians or Australian aborigines or Jews or Africans around the world...........

The rates are paid according to ASI and archeological survey of India. Indians dont pay more as entrance fees because Indians already pay their taxes and if Indians have to pay more to get into their religious sites and temples then what is the point of having such a Government. Foreigners pay more because they are not tax payers of INDIA. Get that little point in your head dumbass, instead of shooting off your mouth about things you dont know. Some temples refuse entry to foreigners because Foreigners in past vandalized and destroyed the temples and that is the reason they are refused entry.Not because they are racist.

As a Sikh this makes me very happy to see the tenants of our faith are not for sale. I would recommend everyone visit a Gurdwara at least once in their life. When I was in 4th grade my dad and I arranged for my class to visit our local Gurdwara. My classmates and their parents were all amazed at the selflessness and charity of our people. I even saw a few families at the Gurdwara years later!
