Thank you Sir!!! You walked me all the way through my Engine and Primary oil changes! People were questioning me because I’m a female... their feeling stupid now because I did it perfectly thanks to you💕💕💕
Thank you sir. I paid for a 3 hole M8 change video two years ago from someone else, and I have to say your’s is much more to the point and easier to follow. Plus includes jokes (wife towels, 14 curse words). You’re the best. Thank you for sharing this. Paying it forward. Thanks again sir.

This was a great step by step video. A 3 hole change in Canada is North of $500 at the dealer, and I’ll never have to pay for that one again. I found Amazon was a great source for “an oil change in a box”, so $200 and a little video time in the shop was a much smaller pill to swallow. Thanks for all you do!!

I used your video to guide me through the entire process. I have a 21 Road Glide Limited 114. My trans took the entire quart but I did let it sit and drain for an hr or so while I took a break. By the way Harley put copper antiseize on the derby cover bolts. Thanks for the info.

glad the videos helped and saved you some money! Hey Ben!! First thanks for checking it out and really glad to hear it helped! And if you ever have any questions I'm usually on here once a day checking comments. Always glad to help! thanks again and be safe!
I recently decided to DIY tune up on my 2018 RGS, this video was so helpful and I really appreciate all the tips and tricks. I'm also using the Syn 3. Only gripe is no spark plug instructions, let me know if yall have a DIY video on that. Great instructional DIY!!! you guys rock!
You jus saved me tons of money cuz Harley charges $670 for 3 hole oil change so definitely will be saving my self big money thanks to you very on detailed too 💪
I will be doing this for the first time myself this weekend and must say your video has exactly all the information I needed. I appreciate your inclusion of torque recommendations for every bolt, and the precise fluid amounts (pre check). Excellent video! I will be checking for you on any future DIY projects I may have.
Steve AS ALWAYS...You nailed it. I do my own services as well and do it exactly as you just showed. The only difference is...I refuse to use a Harley Oil filter. Harley filters are made by FRAM (Death in a can) which is THE WORST oil filter there is. The only other option is to use a Chrome KnN. AGAIN like oil...thats another argument. Thing is...youde be surprized how many people dont know the difference in filters. Us Mechanics and motorheads know!!! Thanks again for the outstanding content.
Thank you Sir! Never really had an issue with the HD versions but I usually run the Amsoil filters...do you happen to know the efficiency rating at what micron level for the k&n? without me having to do a bunch of research lol let me know...all I could ever find on the HD is 5 microns but that means nothing to me if it doesn't tell me an efficiency rating...like 90% efficient at stopping 5 microns? 70? who knows lol
@@sikbaggers ... I get what you're saying lol. But according to KnN... the efficiency rating for their filters depending upon the application is between 25 and 100 microns. The thing that I like about their filter is there is you can use conventional oil as well as synthetic And still have the same level of protection. I have been an auto technician for 45 yearsAnd I refuse to use a frame oil filter on my car or any for any car what alone on my sled. Working on cars over the years I have for the years I have done my research just like you with bikes and found that frame is the worst filter out there. The only thing that they have is a paper element inside inside and I lot of times the Element just decentegrates Leaving no kind of protection at all shouldn't at all in the element element after it disintegrates ends up in your engine With no way to filter it out.
Thanks for the great video I just bought a 22 low rider S and even though I have a pretty good idea on the steps to change the oils you had a couple great suggestions I will be trying when I do the next change
As ALWAYS THE BEST INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS ON YOU TUBE!!! If you want to learn the correct way to do things you will learn it right here. Total professional. Thank you Sir for another fantastic video.
Great video. You obviously have many years of experience. One little thing, I think the trans fill plug/dipstick torque is 25~75 inch lbs. not foot lbs...
I’m a new right and have a 18 fat boy with the 114 m8 and I’m fixing to do my service before the spring and was contemplating on taking it to Harley but after watching this video I think I’m going to save the money and do it my self. I called a couple dealers around me and it was like 5-600 dollars for the service.
yes its very easy to do. Youll be done a lot quicker than you think and have that extra money to buy cool stuff for your bike instead of giving it back to HD
first time doing own oil change, exactly the perfect video I was looking for. realized the 5 quart kit I bought doesn't give me enough oil to do transmission also. will buy another quart and do that now. awesome video!
Thanks for the video. Doing my first 1000 mile change next week. Just ordered the stuff I need and now know how by watching your video. Also subscribed to your channel. Good stuff.
Hey bro off topic but value your expertise….. when upgrading clutch, compensator…. What upgraded tensioner do you prefer and why? Thanks! Trying to pull my laundry list together for my upgrades.
Ite. I just did an oil change on my Ultra Limited. I found that it takes 6 quarts exactly. I put 4 qts in the engine, and I did like you did with a graduated cylinder to get 28 ounces and 30 ounces, and then put the rest of the oil from THOSE containers in the engine. Took it for a short ride, checked the engine and trans oil, and the levels are perfect! Sure appreciate your video Sir! PS. I tried the foil trick on the oil filter. Still made a bloody fn mess on the garage floor. LOL
Hey robert thanks for the comment man and for checking out the video...yeah that tin foil trick can be a mess too..using one of those funnels designed for that is also kinda tricky to get in there...best way is to stuff a bunch of old rags in there and twist out as fast as you can and let the rags soak it up.
I just add enough oil in filter to roll and wet media and not spill when installing filter, thanks for sharing this video and process to taking care of and getting to enjoy and know the M8 Touring series. Ride on
Agreed about that damn filter!! Makes you wonder what Harley and some shops use to tighten that damn thing! Thanks for the right to the point detailed maintenance video! Without the rap in the background! Liked and subscribed
This is the best video ive seen doing this , thanks for the help , im a rookie, i believe i can do it myself now, lol ,thanks for explaining everything perfectly,
yeah the 5,15 and 20k services are tedious..what i do is every other oil change do a 3 hole...makes it easy to remember and nothing wrong with fresh fluids a little early.
I've been on the fence about buying a Harley because of all the maintenance fee stories I hear about. This was a huge help to know doing it yourself is not a big deal. Now the other question is can I trust the engines to keep going? So hard to trust it when I see oil sumping issues and things like that.
I have 22,400 miles on my 2021 Street Glide and just payed for the last oil change yesterday... I'm over it... Thank you for helping illuminate my fears of doing this....but hopefully I will not have to get my filter off with a chisel 😮 Great video 🏜️✊🏼
Thank you for sharing your experience! HD's prices for maintenance can be frustrating for sure. I'm glad that the information provided helped alleviate some of your fears. The goal is to provide useful guidance and insights to make tasks like oil changes easier and less daunting. Hopefully, you won't have to resort to using a chisel to remove the filter..that really sucked but was a rare instance of an HD dealership over tightening the filter on a previous oil change. If you have any further questions or concerns regarding your motorcycle maintenance or any other related topics, feel free to ask. I'm here to assist you and provide the information you need.
Just purchased my first harley 2023 road glide coming from a metric 2004 nomad. Harley made it sound like rocket science to change the oil. They did say they would do the labor portion free for the first oil change so I may let them. But im a killer shade tree mechanic who actually enjoys a sunday morning oil change so I will be doing mine from then on. This video is great, I subbed, liked and saved this video for when it is time to do the changes. I'm assuming the oil type/weight is all the same for all 3 holes? I'll be sure to look in my manual, and I didn't know that there were different intervals, ill look closely at that as well. Excellent tips all around, this vid will make it a breeze. Looking foward to checking out some more of your videos.
Yes..they are quite expensive...and this is so easy...take your time and after doing ti once youll be way more confident the next time. Super easy to do
You explain everything in so much detail and it's enjoyable to watch all your how-to videos. Well, I did I bought a Road King for Christmas and traded in my Dyna. My question to you is I bought the 5 oil changes when I purchased it. My thinking is, it's under warranty so they can look the bike over and fix things as I ride it, I always after the warranty is over start doing everything myself. I always use syn 3 in all 3 holes, Harley dealer told me they stopped doing that and put syn gear oil in 2 holes, I hit 1200 miles and the first service is after the holidays should I tell them my way, or their way. Because I will have to do it that way? Your thought on the syn oil versus syn gear oil in 2 holes? Thank you, Merry Christmas!!!!
Totally agree with you on Harley WAY over-torquing the oil filter. I did my first DIY oil change on my M8 last week. I found Teflon tape or something like it all over my drain plug and the oil filter was on so tight that my Harley oil filter wrench skipped off. I thought the wrench must be the wrong size. Nope, I had crushed the top of the filter to the point that the wrench was just spinning. Ended up using a shop rag inside the filter wrench, tapping it on with a rubber mallet, then using a breaker bar on top of my ratchet handle to get the filter loose. Then I spent five minutes getting the old filter off the wrench. Moral of the story: Harley needs to stop telling their wrenches to over-torque the oil filter. I bet they do that so people will bring their bikes in to the dealer for service.
Ive learned that the M8, for some reason, has a way of tightening itself over time too...not sure why...even bikes Ive changed the oil on and know I have not over tightened it, came back to me for the next oil change and was tight as shit...asked my buddy, a tech at HD, and he said the same thing..they all come back tight...so we get to deal with that now lol
Hey man....completely understandable...I do have a oil change video on the 14 -16 103 also...its basically exactly the same though...but let me know if you have any questions...this is definitely something anyone can do at home.
Funel ordered 🙋♂️ lol. Appreciate it Steven. I don't know if I just haven't ever paid any attention but never seen a funel like that with the caps, that's pretty cool an easy to keep clean. 👍
hahah bruh.....some of these guys and their comments man ...holy crap lol...but hey thank you for checking out the video and really glad it helped saved some money!

Go to your local john deere store and buy a strap oil filter wrench that you can put a 1/2”ratchet on. Had way better luck with them than any plier or cap wrench. John deere has best quality one ive seen is why i recommend them. We only use strap wrenches at the farm for big filters on equipment
Thank you David! Hi, you said that you appreciate everyone that watches your videos well I would like to say that I appreciate you for your experience, helpful tips, and your time. Thanks again, JR Boise ID
Thanks Jason...ive been using amsoil for quite awhile now only because I have a local dealer and get it pretty cheap...put maxima in several bikes though with issues.
Great video but I have a question. In the video you say to check the transmission fluid level while on the jiffy stand. Even the service manual says to check it in this manner. What do you do when there is no jiffy stand, such as is the case with a trike? The service manual I have is for trikes and even it says to check on the jiffy stand. ????
if youre dipstick doesnt have two check levels, on jiffy/upright..then you could purchase the digital dipstick from HD that shows the temp and the level www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/shop/oil-level-and-temperature-dipstick-with-lighted-lcd-readout/p/62700194A?srsltid=AfmBOorHuudoRMggs5GZs-3B0H6BVLuw6txsWY494WDDlmg1Nei4FY9bfas i dont know the year of your trike but this is for the M8, 17 and newer trikes
Had the same issues the other day getting my filter off that the dealer put on because I busted a hole in my oil cooler from the previous owner having it too tight. My filter wrench kept slipping like yours and like you was inventing new cuss words. My wife suggests I put one of my red shop rags on the inside, it worked great with no slippage, filter came right off.
Think you sir you done an outstanding job on your video. You took your time and explained every step great and added a cpl extras to help . I give you a thumbs up and a A+
Great video! I really appreciate it! Toward the end you mentioned that the primary and transmission have longer change intervals. I was under the impression I had to do a full 3-hole at each 5000 service interval. I'm at a 5000 interval now. If all 3 were done the last time at the dealer, can I just do the engine oil and call it good? BTW - sign me up for an ugga dugga shirt!
Just did a 3 hole fluid change I concur about NOT using liquid thread sealer it’s hardened on the thread I had to clean all 3 drain holes with a rifle barrel wire brush what a PITA.
been using it for years on older bikes and yes you have to scrub it off with a wire brush...I dont normally use them on newer models..but pre 08....I will put it on every time
Amazing Video! Do you by chance have a video of what the best oil to use is? I have a 2023 road glide standard. Got my 1k done at dealer. Will be doing everything myself from now on.
hey glad to help and thanks for the comment...I normally dont dive off into "whats the best oil" conversation because everyone thinks their choice is the best choice lol ...what I can tell you is this and this is fact, no opinion...if you change your fluids when your supposed to you can run whatever oil you want. Most oils have additives packages added in for extreme conditions....unless you are riding i the dessert or or the Antarctica everyday you are riding in normal conditions. The key is not what you choose to put in its making sure you change it when you need to. With that being said I have ran harleys syn 3, redline, and amsoil...i have never noticed any difference in the operation of the bikes, or the break down of wear parts (excessive metal shavings in the oil) when using any of these oils. So which one is best? The cheapest one is the best. They all do the same thing. You will have people scream and yell about how great one product is over another, one shifts smoother than the other... im here to tell you, it dont! They all work great if you chnage it when you are supposed to. I am currenlty running amsoil because my buddy is a dealer and I get it cheaper. But if syn3 was cheaper I would use that. I hope this helps you and if you have any questions let me know.
@@sikbaggers Now this was the perfect answer i was looking for. Thank you so much. When i got my 1k done @ dealer they put Syn3 in all 3 holes. They did say if you do more 2 up riding to change transmission to the Gear oil. I was thinking about doing that myself. Any answers on the Gear oil from Harley? I would like to order straight from Harley website but they only have kits that put the gear oil in both primary & Trans. Dealer said they wouldn't recommend putting gear oil in Primary. Again thank you for the help. Love the Channel and your videos are hands down the best!
Hey, I saw someone commented that the trans fill plug is torqued at 25-75in lb but you said ft. Can you confirm? Don't want to tighten to tight and break something. Thank you.
Thank you for the video. I greatly appreciate the transmission explanation relating to dry and wet fill. I had no clue what that meant when I read it in the manual. Be and ride safe.

I'm a new harley rider. I just got my '22 street glide.
Your videos have lots of good information. Thank you
Thank you for checking them out Nicolas! Ever have any questions just drop us a comment and we will try to help the best we can!
Absolutely the most informative video I’ve watched yet. Thank you for your time!
Thank you wayne! glad to help!
You jus saved me tons of money cuz Harley charges $670 for 3 hole oil change so definitely will be saving my self big money thanks to you very on detailed too 💪
Absolutely great explanation in your video. I recently purchased a '17 Street Glide and I'm looking forward to saving some bucks!
Thank you Gary! Glad the video helped...always nice to not throw away money to the dealership for things you can do at home pretty easily.
I will be doing this for the first time myself this weekend and must say your video has exactly all the information I needed. I appreciate your inclusion of torque recommendations for every bolt, and the precise fluid amounts (pre check). Excellent video! I will be checking for you on any future DIY projects I may have.
Glad to help Jason...we have videos on most maintenance that you can do at home...thanks for checking it out!
Wow what a great job you do. Thanks for all your help.. so thorough and professional.
thank you neil...glad to help!
The only thing that they have is a paper element inside inside and I lot of times the Element just decentegrates Leaving no kind of protection at all shouldn't at all in the element element after it disintegrates ends up in your engine With no way to filter it out.
best 3 hole oil change video I've seen. Very thorough...
grateful to have helped! thanks for checking us out.
Thank you so much, David! Always glad to help!
Great video. You obviously have many years of experience. One little thing, I think the trans fill plug/dipstick torque is 25~75 inch lbs. not foot lbs...
Is it?
Yeah. I just busted the head off my dipstick.
Youll be done a lot quicker than you think and have that extra money to buy cool stuff for your bike instead of giving it back to HD
first time doing own oil change, exactly the perfect video I was looking for. realized the 5 quart kit I bought doesn't give me enough oil to do transmission also. will buy another quart and do that now. awesome video!
yeah alot of kits will say "twin cam" or "M8" but are short on fluids...glad the video helped!
Great video. Very thorough and professional
Thank you john...glad to help!
I bought a prepaid service plan that covered my first two oil changes, the rest are on me. Thank you for posting this video.
Glad to help...thank you for watching!
I just add enough oil in filter to roll and wet media and not spill when installing filter, thanks for sharing this video and process to taking care of and getting to enjoy and know the M8 Touring series. Ride on
Thank you for checking it out and the comment! Much appreciated!
Appreciate your help. You have enabled me to do this myself. Consider yourself an enabler. 😜
😂 Ill take that! Glad the video helped!!
Agreed about that damn filter!! Makes you wonder what Harley and some shops use to tighten that damn thing! Thanks for the right to the point detailed maintenance video! Without the rap in the background! Liked and subscribed
Thank you Jason! Much appreciated sir.
I only have hot on jiffy stand on my dipstick. Thank you for the detailed video. Really appreciate it
yes some bikes have different dip sticks and your very welcome...glad to help!
This is the best video ive seen doing this , thanks for the help , im a rookie, i believe i can do it myself now, lol ,thanks for explaining everything perfectly,
Hey roger glad to help man...you'll save tons of money! Thanks for watching!
Brake Cleaner works great for cleaning up the oil filter mess. That’s what we use at the Dealership
yes sir...keep tons of that stuff around...grab it cheap at local parts places when they run sales lol
Doing the Lord's work with this video
Thank you John! Much appreciated!
Great overview. My view is since I have it up and ready, might as well do the complete fluid change.
yeah the 5,15 and 20k services are tedious..what i do is every other oil change do a 3 hole...makes it easy to remember and nothing wrong with fresh fluids a little early.
I love the towel disclaimer!
Loved the 3 hole video. Very detailed and easy to follow. Do you have any vids on a coolant change. I have a 2019 Ultra Limited Low
Glad to help on the oil change man...im sorry but right now I dont...Im working on getting one in here just for that though
just bought a 2022 street bob 114. i will be coming back to this many times.
nice! Save some serious money while also learning your machine!
Thank you for helping illuminate my fears of doing this....but hopefully I will not have to get my filter off with a chisel 😮
Great video
🏜️✊🏼
@@sikbaggers As with Derby cover, I make sure I can get oil filter off BEFORE draining. Love the videos!
I do not have a service manual yet.. how any ounces for transmission and how many ounces for the primary?? Thanks @@sikbaggers
Finally someone outside the aviation world that understands ONE CLICK ON A TORQUE WRENCH. Double clicking is over torqueing.
yeah....blows my mind and ill have guys argue with me that it doesnt....its common sense lol
Great video, thanks. I'm about to do my own oil changes on my 2018 Harley davidson Breakout due to Harley charging an arm and a leg.
Great video man gonna try my first oil change here shortly just did a Cam install over the past couple weeks when I had spare time after work
if you can do the cam install the oil change will be a breeze. thanks for checking it out man..happy holidays!
Interesting! Hadn’t heard that one yet. Appreciate you taking the time to reply.
Im a bit nervous to change my oil on my road glide 114...but I need to learn...thanks for this video definitely learning
Nice...yeah I lve that funnel..its a little small on one end so it seeps slow but man it saves a mess in the cabinet
Thanks Steve didn’t really think I’d get a reply . I wanted to use Amsoil but didn’t know if some better.
Amsoils been pretty good to me so far.
Nice video on the M8 3 hole oil change. I fid this on my old 88 and this is just a modern version of that.
Thank you robert and yes..not too much has changed...bolt location and levels of course but still pretty simple to do at home.
Outstanding video my man. Thank you for posting.
Thank you so much for checking it out! Glad it helped!
Great informitive video once again has come to be one of my favoritechannels thank you ohand some of the comments and replies are gold
hahah bruh.....some of these guys and their comments man ...holy crap lol...but hey thank you for checking out the video and really glad it helped saved some money!
awesome video on how to, to the point simple and spot on. thank you for doing what you do
You're very welcome Anthony! Thank you for checking it out...always glad to help!
Thank you for the video. What kind of lift table jack are you using ? Again thanks.
Aplus Lift....I have two of them now...love them outside of a few little inconveniences its a great lift for the price. Here is my video on it ua-cam.com/video/IJXDxXpPelo/v-deo.html and here is where I got it on amazon amzn.to/3AlxtQq
excellent ,thorough video! Very great explanation all the way through.
Glad to help and thank you for checking it out!
Used this for my oil change today, worked like champ thank you
I still wish you were my neighbor but I'm glad I can simply look on the internet and your channel IS SIK no pun intended thanks for sharing
I followed this video and Bob's your uncle perfect and clean job thanks for sharing
Im glad to help!! Save some money and spend it on other cool stuff for your sled !!
Go to your local john deere store and buy a strap oil filter wrench that you can put a 1/2”ratchet on. Had way better luck with them than any plier or cap wrench. John deere has best quality one ive seen is why i recommend them. We only use strap wrenches at the farm for big filters on equipment
thanks for the heads up on that...we have a john deere here in town and ill stop by and grab one
I love your videos , very informative and detailed. Can you possibly do a short clip video on how to properly set that torque wrench
Thank you David! There is a great video that explains it right here on YT...check this link..I have started the timer on the video for you in the link so it skips the BS and gets to the settings...you can always choose to watch the hole thing but starting here is the best...I hope this helps! ua-cam.com/video/EJH1Fp3yM7E/v-deo.html
@@sikbaggers thank you Steve for your help .I truly enjoy your videos and content you provide to the community. You’re a good dude . Thx again bud 🤙🏼
Hi, you said that you appreciate everyone that watches your videos well I would like to say that I appreciate you for your experience, helpful tips, and your time. Thanks again, JR Boise ID
thank you, James..im glad the videos have helped...be safe!
Great video as usual. What is your preferred oil for a 22 ultra. Thanks in advance
Thanks for another great video Steve. What is your personal preference on oils? I use Maxima in mine.
Thanks Jason...ive been using amsoil for quite awhile now only because I have a local dealer and get it pretty cheap...put maxima in several bikes though with issues.
Exactly the same way I do a 3 hole change on my Me , well done Steven💯👊🏽😎
Thank you for checking it out buddy
@@sikbaggers anytime brother💯
Awesome video with NO BS! Thx
thank you...glad to help!
Thanks just saved $350. Appriciate the torque specs.
Sorry for the late reply, I just got back from Sturgis...glad the video helped!
Steve very well put presentation. I always enjoy watching your video’s👍🏾 Keep your knees in the breeze.😎
Thank you Daryl!
I love the one uga duga is all you need!
Yeah man that always sucks...Ive had one that I had to drop the oil cooler and beat off with a literal chisel..Ill never understand it
Thank you Steve , thanks for all the great videos .
Youre very welcome!
Think you sir you done an outstanding job on your video. You took your time and explained every step great and added a cpl extras to help . I give you a thumbs up and a A+
Thank you so much Aaron!
Thank you for an excellent fluid change video. Glad I found your's.
youre very welcome and grateful to have been a help.
Just did a 3 hole fluid change I concur about NOT using liquid thread sealer it’s hardened on the thread I had to clean all 3 drain holes with a rifle barrel wire brush what a PITA.
been using it for years on older bikes and yes you have to scrub it off with a wire brush...I dont normally use them on newer models..but pre 08....I will put it on every time
Another great video. Thanks! God Bless!!✌️😎👍
Thank you Ken!
Thanks this was perfectly done and very helpful.
Glad the video helped! Thanks for checking it out..much appreciated.be safe.
Thank you.
I ride harley in my dreams, thank you now I know how to keep her in topcondition 🎉
Youre very welcome....glad to help!
Thank you for the video. I greatly appreciate the transmission explanation relating to dry and wet fill. I had no clue what that meant when I read it in the manual. Be and ride safe.
Glad it helped PD!! Be safe!
Best how to on the big three, Thank you!
Thank you Bill!
I just found and subscribed to your channel. Great easy to understand videos. I really appreciate the links to get a couple of things I needed as well..
In your video, you say to torque the transmission dipstick to 50 foot pounds. Its 50 inch/pound. huge difference.everything else is great. fallowed everything step by step.
