    Really appreciate this video. Just learned to ride last year at the age of 49. Pretty much first thing I bought after buying the bike was the service manual (I like a printed copy). Here in Canada should be able to get back on the road for the new season within the month. Seeing what needs to be done in conjuction with the manual is absoluely invaluable to me and gives me a bit more confidence that I’m taking good care of the bike.

      yes sir...I have a lot of hard copies as well..just expensive lol But yes they provide everything one would need to know. Particularly valuable for torque specs!

    the bit about your tire raising up or flattening off on the center has happened to EVERY rear tire on my softail within 8mo of new. i was told its because the sides wear faster because they are softer compound for better cornering grip

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  Рік тому +1

      That should never happen to your tire. I contacted Avon tires about this and they informed me that they quit making that tire and are redoing the form and glues so that this doesn't happen again. Its still not been released yet. I had to go with a Dunlop on the front in replacement which will last me longer but not as smooth as the the softer Avon tire.

    Steve - once again. great video. I also have to say I totally forgot about the roll forward on the throttle to shut off cruise. Perhaps it because I barely use cruise but when I have I would tap the brake.

    I replaced the stock HD tires and wheels on my '17 Road King.
    Wen from a 17"F/16"R Dunlop to 19"F/16"R Michellen Commander 3 and upgraded my rims to something easier on the eyes.
    My frame says 36psi F/40psi R and when the dealership installed the wheels they just went 40/40.
    Also I added an aftermarket TPMS that connects via Bluetooth to my Android.
    I use Fubu Bike 2.
    Saves me a lot of time.
    BTW, I didn't know that about moving the throttle forward to cancel the cruise control.
    I thought doing that just turned off the parade mode (ETMS)

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  Рік тому +1

      40/40 is a very common thing you will see people running thier tires at.,..because its easy to remember. and honesly its fine. Loads of people running it like that with zero issues. And and you are right the roll forward will turn on/off the parade mode if you hold it long enough...but just kicking it foward will just kill the cruise. I use my cruise more than I would like to admit lol

    I would recommend these checks every time you do a trip. I had an oil cooler that showed a leak but no oil on the bike or ground just before I'm mean minutes before leaving for Florida from cali. Don't get stuck on the side of the road. Luckily, my dealer had 1 in stock.

    Great video as always I just like to add to torque your axles your shocks, as you mentioned, your fork pinch bolt even your subframe bolts. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a couple of them loosen up and that holds the whole back of your motorcycle together.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  Рік тому +1

      Great tips! I had a bike in here that had a wheel wobble...ended up being pinch bolts...guy swapped out his cans and just snugged it up...i torued them and boom...fixed.

  • @DevilDog59
    @DevilDog59 Рік тому +1

    Very good pre check video. On the kickstand you should also check the top bolt that secured the kickstand cam plate to the actual kickstand. I have seen several bike come through my shop where that bolt is very loose. I make that one of my general checks when a bike is in my shop. So if a bike has a top bolt that and not all do check it to ensure it is tight a not to your viewers.

    • @sikbaggers

    Had a guy ride 60 miles to the dealership to sell his motorcycle and when he got there I took it for a test ride before I check the tire pressure which was a mistake. I always check the tire pressure first well needless to say it had 11 pounds of pressure in each tire. The motorcycle shook violently at 20 miles an hour so I don’t even know how he got to the dealership safely. Tire pressure is very important gentleman. And as mentioned in the video it’s right there on the frame not on the tire.

    Very thorough video. I would just add that it's not a good practice to put your fingers on the braking surface of the rotors.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  Рік тому

      you are correct..use latex gloves in case you ever have grease or oil on your fingers it will subtly effect the braking performance. However your hands wont produce enough natural oils to effect the brakes on a bike...now if you're changing your CCM-R brakes on your Huracán STO right before track day, I would definitely not touch them lol

    Years ago I felt something hit me on my leg while riding. Couldn’t tell what it was until I got home and noticed one of the front brake caliper mounting bolts had come loose. No bueno.

      Pull the R saddle bag off and check the bolts on the rear brake caliper. I lost one bolt and the other one was loose.

    So unlike my 05 Deuce with drain screws in the forks and i can get to the top of the forks , my 2014 Streetglide is a PITA . You have to remove the Batwing AND take the forks out to drain the oil and re-fill because Mr Harley decided not to have drain holes in the forks . To take it to a Stealership its like $600 !!!!! or more to have the front fork oil done 🤬thats at the new rate of $150 an hour . I know no end that let it slide .

      yeah very different from the touring models and your Duece....it sucks but its still very doable. I feel ya on the hourly rates that why we try to teach everyone at home to basics of working on their bikes. Thank you for checking out the video!
