My 2021 Model Y developed a paint bubble on the left front bumper within the last year. I asked Tesla service about repairing it, and they responded that they do not do paint repairs. They referred me to a local body shop. After carefully inspecting the damaged paint, the body shop person explained that the paint bubble occurred because the bumper surface had not been properly prepared and lacked the proper undercoat. He said that it took a while to show up, because it is likely that a small rock or similar object chipped the paint, and once the surface was compromised, the area continued to chip away. I took my car to 2 other body shops and received the same diagnosis. Even though this is clearly a manufacturing defect, Tesla service refuses to take responsibility. Bottom line, I love my car, but customer service is definitely lacking. I enjoy your info & updates! Keep up the good work.
M3 performance owner here, no leak noted so far! Also disagree with narrative of service being poor in my experience has been spectacular as well for my cybertruck with 6000 miles on it so far. Just one person experience.
My four interactions with Tesla service (2x MY, 1x CT) have been superb. Zero complaints. I've owned 20 cars and trucks. My CyberTruck is the best of them all, in every single metric, by miles.
MP3 received in June with 800 miles - no leak that I can see on the ground so far. Best car and best Tesla I've owned hands down - and at 66 I've owned a lot of cars.
Tesla should buy EVJECT and bring that in-house, develop further, make it an official product. This is a must have for areas and countries that are less safe.
Why are BYD's and other Chinese EVs so inexpensive compared to U.S.-made EVs? Because the Chinese government MASSIVELY subsidizes them. If the U.S. government did that with U.S.-made EVs, they would be much cheaper, too.
We had problem with vw telling us that they couldnt fix something, then it was out of warranty, suddenly they could fix it, very expensive. Our Telsa service centre has been excellent.
Tesla service has been pretty stellar, one visit for unrepairable tire, requested service via app, towed to service center, tire replacement, total time about 90 minutes
My guess why the Cybertruck is selling like crazy is because of the businesses are buying it and taking advantage of the tax deduction and free advertising by wrapping it with their logo and business info knowing that people will look.
The NHTSA focuses on defects that directly impact safety. The list of safety-related defects they provide includes issues like steering components breaking, fuel system leaks, wheel failures, and problems with critical safety systems. I don't see them issuing a recall for an oil leak from a gear cases.
As soon as I heard about the Cybercab unveiling I knew they'd be introcuding wireless charging at the same time (already knowing about the tech they purchased for 98%+ wireless charging efficiency over a 15cm air gap). The two technologies compliment each other perfectly.
Bought brand new 2022 m3 lr when it was still under warranty noticed hair line cracks on the l rear taillight few months later. Brought it to a local T service center. T wanted to charge me 250 dollars for it. Reasoned with the rep that it was under warranty, rep spoke to the manger and agreed to replaced it for free. You have to know your rights as a consumer. Ty
BYD: Bring it on! We need a low-cost option to trigger widespread adoption. But if BYD builds in the USA, will they still be able to compete as dramatically on price? Also, they'd have to score high on NHTSA safety ratings.
If you don’t believe in a tyrant leader who is so controversial and hypocritical in many ways why support the brand? The world has choices now, even if they are not as good, they will do the job to get humanity away from fossil fuels for transportation eventually. Bravo to you for going with the alternative. I own Kia and VW EVs, and very happy. Next is a Ford Lighting, and Ecoflow home battery backup system with solar panels 😊
I just bought a Model Y performance. If you ask me whether I will buy BYD EV car. I will hesitate because I am worrying about quality. Not until they prove the quality, I will opt for Tesla. I think Tesla is popular in China even BYD has much advantage. For car, I will highly recommend to consider safety because you have only one life. You should reduce the risk as much as possible. By the way, I came from Hong Kong, China.
The problem with service people giving owners tips to fix it themselves is just the potential legal liability if the owners end up screwing up. But sometimes the minimum charge for service for tiny problems is just too much. I understand the dilemma of the service centre personnel face though.
Haven’t seen evidence of leak yet on my 2024 M3P yet. I have found service centers to be understaffed. Service advisors try to be helpful but are too busy. Service techs seem to not want to address issues as I had a couple rattles and the advisor wanted the tech to do a ride along with me. The tech said no but would call me if they couldn’t reproduce the rattle. The kept my car for 48 hours then said it was ready for pick up. When I picked it up they didn’t volunteer it hadn’t been fixed. Later I saw the notes saying the couldn’t reproduce the rattle which is BS because it is easy to hear.
I picked up a 2024 M3 Performance just a week ago. It goes in next week for a misaligned door and a paint chip at the seam of the rear bumper. I will ask about the oil leak but my guess is that they will just tell me to wait. I've long outgrown pushing cars hard and the Performance version wasn't on my short list to replace a 2020 mod 3, but the ride quality and handling seduced me. Now if they would just get FULL self driving to work (able to read No Left Turn signs and arrows, able to see and avoid small debris on the roadway and not scare passengers half to death with mano a mano merges. If it has to go in for an oil leak fix, I will still like this car.
As far as the Cybertruck goes. There were two million pre-orders. I think most of those people are not buying due to the price, but even if half can't take the price that still leaves a million pre-orders. I also think that with celebs and creatives seeing that the Cybertruck makes a perfect canvas for expression, it has taken on a new appeal. Celebrity endorsement is a tried and true demand driver.
My wifes model S needs to go in because it has collision warning alarms that go off and lock wheel for partial second during some turns. Seems to be when there are cars parked in area. Also turing right into parking lot it will sometimes alarm and lock wheel for fraction of second. They tried to fix this by disabling radar but made it worse. Problem with taking car in is getting a car to drive leaving. They have been reluctant in past to give me one or rent one. This had been going on for over 6 months.
The people who bought a Cybertruck are great people. They dont care about whats on the outside, but what on the inside that matters... Haters are the judging sort of people that dont give the time at getting to know the subject/person... dont judge a book by its cover, come on, people
Competition is good for consumers ! Could force Tesla to produce / lower car prices ! However , if you think that the OMC's are struggling now ! enough said .. ps, Kim , you were so concerned about "microwaves" some time ago , have you changed your mind ? WHY ? "Charging Pads" in the garage ? next to kids toys , your bikes , washer & dryers ........ ???
Please consider the time period of owners service. If you’re at a service center during the last 10 days of the quarter, delivery may take priority thus delays.
Too late for Rivian, Ford, GM, Stelantis, and VW … the train has already left the station. Only players are Tesla, BYD and NIO. Also fyi even Chinese consumers prefer Tesla vs BYD…
Of course they should charge for the option to use the NAC standard. The other vendors did not know when their customers bought their cars that this huge benefit would emerge.
We have a Model X and a Chevy Bolt. The BYD is a compelling replacement for the 2019 Bolt which is my daily driver. No way we are giving up the Tesla as it rocks for longer trips. Next year when more cars have a NACS port, the Bolt will likely get replaced. Model 2/3 and others will be considered.
GM should have given some charging credit for customers that purchased this adapter even though it should have been a free accessory since their market share is so low.
27:50 I think you guys are correct. The model 2 & Robotaxi will be identical The model two comes with the steering wheel and pedals The Robo taxi has no steering wheel and pedals, but comes with FSD
Kim, l'm no 'dummy panel' but l have shared for months my belief that the _CYBER CAB_ SHOULD be a three wheeler vehicle! This is the first image that alludes to that very possiblity. I could be wrong and as l've said before at worst it's designed to have a tight rear end with a narrow track and two wheels inboard of the closed bodywork for aero! Three wheels make economic sense to a former Architect like me!
GM should definitely charge for the adapter. If it were free, people who didn’t need it would order it anyway. With that, I think $225 is a little steep.
Went in for an alignment, took them 20 minutes and 1 side was showing red (out of spec) while the other is within spec. Asked for them to have it done again since I’m paying for it to make it within spec. Started to blame me for having aftermarket wheels and tires and spacers to have the OEM offset so they can’t do it and will void warranty on drive train and suspension parts.
Have noticed all along that one price affected charging rates,, people often made other choices available to them and one of those choices being better planning…!
I still really hope the one more thing is the model too. Especially since I just heard about the cyber cab being tested with the steering wheel. I think they should put this out first for consumers as an affordable EV people can purchase until they work out all the kinks of FSD so that it can become unsupervised. Also, really bummed that I didn’t get to hang out with you at takeover this year because no one from northern or Southern California attended, so I wasn’t able to come with anyone.
My most recent issue was with the right front fender camera on my 2017 MX. It failed after my previous issue, which was the front air suspension replacement. Right after the suspension repair (which was quite expensive) FSD would not work. By checking the camera feeds, it was clear that the right front fender camera was not functional. At first, I thought that perhaps the repair tech may have forgotten to re-connect the camera after repairing the suspension, so I checked it myself and it appeared to be connected properly. I then made an appointment to get the camera serviced. The first service quote was for >$1500, where they planned to replace the 3 forward facing cameras along with the fender camera AND the cable to the fender camera (which was the bulk of the quote estimate). I pushed back on this estimate and asked them, nicely, to please change the fender camera first ($175 cost). They agreed to do this and I ended up paying $185 for the repair. Sometimes the Tesla service people recommend the strangest things!
I’m curious once Tesla robotaxi begins to scale, will any of the other industry leaders adjust their approach to autonomy? For instance, could Waymo allocate deeper development work for camera vision, or neural net usage in vehicle dynamics control code?
i went in for my center console because makes a noise, they told me it is normal. i told them this is a $54,000 dollar car and it should not make any noise. :) they do cross that line.
Also a longer cord adds more electrical resistance (think of resistance like friction an an atomic level) - so for sure more heat - more heat and no cooling spells a disaster waiting to happen.
It's been suggested that perhaps 90% of the cyber trucks sold to date are being used as grocery-hunters and not as real work trucks which is kind of a shame because these trucks are so capable of doing work.
I had the drive unit replaced on my 2013 Modal S 5 months later it started dripping. Tesla fixed it without an issue. Now I have a tump noise coming from the rear area. Hope it is not the drive again.
In July I made a confirmed appointment for Aug, Tesla canceled my confirmed appointment and moved it to October, since I’m not going to be in town in October, I have to reschedule to November… that is 4 months of bad service from Tesla, changing my confirmed appointment is really bad service.
I think the NACS extension would be great for the Chevy Bolt. It draws far less current than any other EV that has supercharger access so I doubt that a decent made cable would have a heating issue.
Something I haven't seen which would be great is a NACS extension with a CCS end on the car side. That would eliminate 1 connection point that might cause a resistance issue. I'd be more likely to pay over $200 for an adapter that had 6-8 feet of cable. Any manufacturers listening?
If these other OEMs are serious about NACS, they need to move the charging port to rear left immediately. Taking two charging spots is totallly unacceptable. Once traditional gas stations get into the charging business for real, I think they will offer similar "fueling" methods, with drive thru stalls. If they do, then charging port placement isn't so critical.
"I had a heat pump failure on my 2023 November Tesla Model 3. It took three weeks to get it fixed, but luckily, I was given a Model X as a loaner during that time. would love to know why it failed
If we allow BYD in US, millions of hard working people at US car factories and suppliers will lose their job. They will go on government assistance which is bad for them and the country.
Kim: “Tesla received millions to build EV charging stations” Kim: “maybe GM charging for the adapter will make our stations less busy” If all manufacturers move to CCS over the next generations will the Tesla branded stations still be considered unique?
I would never sell my Tesla M3 (2021) but would like to see BYD offered here in the states. GM, Stellantis and Ford had over a decade to study Tesla and BYD and start their EV programs but chose not to out of ignorance. If they suffer as a business that is their fault.
So I have a 2024 Tesla MS, and I’m currently driving on FSD V12.5.1, and I still don’t have smart Summon, and I am pissed, as I’ve been waiting a long time for this feature. So when I had my 2018 M3 at least I had summon where you could move the car forward/backward, and now I don’t even have that.🤷🏽♂️
Hopefully the Model 2 won't look stupid. It might be a good choice for many people to get to work. It'd be great if you get could a dual motor version. Something like a Hyundai Venue with AWD would be excellent. No frills.
So the service centers were fantastic for the early years. Being a 3 time Tesla owner, I was a very large fanboy of the company. I’ve got a long ranting story back and forth blah blah blah that ended with them saying “ your next car does not have to be a Tesla” to which I replied speaking to the Naperville Illinois manger “ because of you, it won’t”. They have gotten to the point where loyalty is not on the priority list and it’s sad to see.
EVject - I’ve seen a UA-cam where a person attacking a parked charging Tesla by parking sideways in front of the Tesla and then getting in the car and pulling out the victim and taking her away. So EVject would not help you in this situation as there is no way to drive forward or backwards.
It’s still unclear, mine is dripping oil from the cooler gasket, no driver transaxle. My Tesla and myself will be watching it closely, however my blinker buttons are definitely sticking, very dangerous
I will not sell our Tesla for BYD. BTW, Frances has place tariffs on BYD. However, BYD prices must be equal to USA made to compete fairly and to stimulate completion for a better product for American buyers
Celebities are not advancing the sales of Cybertruck. The Cybertruck is the celebrity!
It'll be short lived.
My 2024 M3P was delivered in June. I LOVE it so far. One of the most fun cars I have ever owned. No leak that I can see.

My only issue with their service is the speed of being able to get an appointment. And not enough 'Tesla approved' service partners.

If the breather is faulty that might mean it is not letting pressure out so pressure needs to release out somewhere thus going out the seal

I don’t think BYD can sell a $15,000 car in the U.S. that passes the crash test standards.
I don't think Chinese car companies can demonstrate safety and value to the American public.

BYD, supply chain is not responsible for extremely prices, it’s massive state subsidies, period.
Tesla should have gotten 70% of the charging money
Just like a differential on a 4x4 if it gets plugged with mud and hardens. The heat builds pressure and it pushes oil out the seals

BYD wont be as cheap as you say. In europe they do sell and starting price is 35k euro and the seal is 45k euro.

Everytime I get interested in purchasing a Tesla somethimg like this surfaces.
GM should charge a $50 handling & shipping fee, but not give adapters out for free. Many people will never use them.
Make manufacturers place the charge port in a standardized position.
I think it would be prudent of a Tesla to purchase the EVJect company and start selling that product on their website.
I disagree, this is a perfect item for Tesla to allow a 3rd party to take liability for and it is a one use device that the company replaces for free.

So when I had my 2018 M3 at least I had summon where you could move the car forward/backward, and now I don’t even have that.🤷🏽♂️
When I compare the yellow car with the car behind it, It is much smaller then the Tesla 3/Y behind it.
Do I have to pay a tax of a tariff? Isn't that a DOUBLE TAX?
Hopefully the Model 2 won't look stupid. It might be a good choice for many people to get to work. It'd be great if you get could a dual motor version. Something like a Hyundai Venue with AWD would be excellent. No frills.
They are supposed to get longer cables on their kiosks!
Why the need for a specialized robotaxi model? I thought the whole idea was that Tesla owners could use their own cars in the taxi fleet.
I can't imagine that a $12K BYD would pass US safety standards.
I’m a Tesla owner but know BYD have passed EU and Australia safety standards that are stricter than US safety standards.
@@mikejebson8903and they are not $12K in Australia. $20-$40k.
EVject - I’ve seen a UA-cam where a person attacking a parked charging Tesla by parking sideways in front of the Tesla and then getting in the car and pulling out the victim and taking her away. So EVject would not help you in this situation as there is no way to drive forward or backwards.
Do you have this vlog on Spotify?
Yes
I'm waiting for an Aptera Sol, self charging.
As always
❤❤❤From Norway
thanks ☺️
I hate BYD it self combust, the construction is shoddy, the body rusts and the reason it’s so cheap is that it’s heavily government subsidized
Yes byd needs to come .. will make more competition
Let BYD sell in the USA as long as it is completely 100 percent made in USA
It’s still unclear, mine is dripping oil from the cooler gasket, no driver transaxle. My Tesla and myself will be watching it closely, however my blinker buttons are definitely sticking, very dangerous
There was a long waiting list for cyber truck.
My experience with Tesla service is that they are really good.
Busy, so it might take a while to get an appointment for non-critical stuff, but really good for me, at least.
No they are not
I'll credit the Cybertruck sales to Tucker Carlson's video series on it.
I will not sell our Tesla for BYD. BTW, Frances has place tariffs on BYD. However, BYD prices must be equal to USA made to compete fairly and to stimulate completion for a better product for American buyers
GM charging adapter should be free, what’s another $250, add to their cost loss per ev vehicle.
$12.99 world wide will get you Tesla prices.
