We installed a 35kw solar system 5 years ago. Cost $44k before any tax incentives. We have generated $29k worth of electricity at local rates. We bought 2 EVs and replaced propane heat with heat pumps. Total savings to date are $45k. 30% tax rebate brought our out of pocket cost to $31k. Finally, we live in a mountain valley, and our panels face east/west. Solar is a no-brainer sweet deal!
What company did you go with? Everywhere I have spoken to wants $100k for a 13kW system. I know I can buy 10.85kW worth of panels for $2,000 and inverter for close to that so I plan on a DIY approach.
@CWK09 I did it myself, as a licensed contractor, however, the $44k included all labor and materials. Contractor markups on solar are insane. Even 2x cost would only be $88k. Your material pricing shows this. We need more installations and more competition.
@@CWK09 I ran into more troubles with my power company then ANYONE else, Only because I was putting over the "120%" rule for my area, They said I only needed 11-12Kw to break even. So I had to prove to them I JUST got an electric car, wasn't enough. Then I had to "promise" (I already was in the middle of) I would change my NG items to electric. The first year it made 8400 back this past 4 months just over another 2K only because the price of electric went back down to 13 cents.
Kim your guest interview and his knowledge really added to your content. Wow! He’s a hoot. Solar panels and solar batteries ain’t sexy, but TESLA figured how to make them sexy. Words to live by.
It blows my mind the USA hasn't more uptake of solar panels. In Australia a third of houses have solar panels and more added every year. Solar panels are amazing. Everybody should have them.
That's why knowing geography is important. You guys get way more sun then we do. Most of the northern part of of the U.S. is covered in snow in wintertime and don't get a lot of sun. In Florida and California it's understandable but in places like Ohio it's only about half the year to get great result's. Plus installation is very costly as well here in America.
Kim, please always do bloopers and bonus footage. Your personality is delightful and with bonus footage we get to see you even more engaging---and hilarious.
Why does the Gun Smoke character Festus, come to mind watching this video? But I love it when UA-camrs think blurring out a car license plate is a privacy thing, when everyone on the road can see the plate number. Yet, they will show pictures of their home, spouse, kids and say what city they live in. lol
You should see shit show I’m dealing with right now involving the police and lawyers relating to a license plate. Correct your plates are seen by everyone on the roads, but you fail to realize that once you’re public (online) you are easily a target. I’ll just leave it at that. After almost 60 million views on this channel, you can imagine it only takes one moron to make blurring worthwhile. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@ItsKimJava I get your concern about it all. Hey, so when are we going to get Summon? You guys said in a previous video that v12.5.2 has it but that's not true. My Model Y is a year old now and it still doesn't have Summon. It gets frustrating when we buy a product from Tesla and it takes them forever to give us what we paid for. And I wish Elon would tone down and focus. I'm losing faith in him and Tesla.
Haha great video and information! ❤ I have a model 3 in 🇨🇦. So cheap and saves me $500 a month in fuel costs. This guy is smart and entertaining. Thanks Kim ❤
Might not hit for some, but totally get some Michael Keaton vibes breaking through with this guy. He ain't Batman... nor is he Beetlejuice... but some homesteading-hippie-farmer version right in the middle. Haha!
When did he add the powerwalls? Looks like Powerwall 2. If he was one of the first to get them it would have been 2016. So 8 years of powerwall and 14 years of solar?
Why use burning light bolbs❓❓❓ All mine and most people i know here use led ones, look like normal bolbs but only take 2 to 15 watts(15 watts do 20k lumens).
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but how is he paying at a rate of 5 cents for electricity? Where does he live? I know San Diego is expensive but I didn’t realize how much more. In San Diego, we are at least paying 26 cents for delivery during super off-peak PLUS another 6 cents for generation PLUS addl taxes and fees.
Ah, I see from another comment that he is in Georgia. But is 5 cents correct? Is that the actual total? I hear neighbors and other people boasting about their rates, but they don’t take both delivery and generation rates into consideration.
He did not just lick his hand to clean the panel, wipe, and then relick the same finger to wipe more I’m dead!!! 😭😭😭 prob tasted like 10 year old dirt 😂 you were pushing it with the first hand lick to begin with my guy 😭😂😭
Yeah does not care is fine. But it aint 90% - he is a rich dude who can't or wont count. Eg. Bad example. Solar is awesome ❤ not just in his property and It's fine,c he doesnt care.

Everybody that knows this guy must feel blessed. What an amazing fun character, sharing his love of life.

Dude is an absolute solar reality show rock star 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Your guest is energetic and makes for great entertainment!

Republicans associate solar panels with the devil apparently. Doesn’t help they keep hating on electric cars.

Ahh, Kim…this guy is great! Thank for the update video. 😊
You bet!
Great video Kim. That dude is hilarious. Very likable, you should have him on more.
This needs his own youtube channel
He is SUCH a character. I feel like he must make so many friends everywhere he goes.

I was thinking same, but based on Kim’s tone, it’s a real problem. Maybe an attorney can explain what law is broken.

This guy is hilarious. Living the actual dream.
Not to cast shade on the solar, but there is a whole lot of shade on those panels...😂
he knows but doesn't really care given it offsets almost everything regardless.
Love this guy’s enthusiasm for life.
He missed the offer to transfer free supercharging for life to a new Tesla

Bifacial solar panels on raised ground mount arrays paired with lithium batteries make going off grid a no brainer these days
Hey KJ , its the Tesla guy in Canada Excellent presentation/you tube by u and your client. Tesla Rules with Kim Java
Wonderful with American subsidies... No such luck in UK.
install and forget, that would be awesome for EVERY tech (but that's not maximizing profits :(
As always ❤❤❤From Norway
Awesome thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Interesting to hear the electricity rates from where he lives in Georgia. They are almost exactly what my Time of Use Rates are in Wisconsin.
This guys😂 he is totally an fun package 🤣
that guy looks a whole lot of fun
Very nice Video Kim!

Any issues ? Half the solar is shaded in the background. To me that is inefficient.
IM A SOLAR INSTALLER AND RETAILER. TELL YOU STRAIGHT UP MOST OF HIS PANELS ARE SHADED ALREADY FROM THE INTRO. NOT A GOOD START
So I had "Girl Math" without knowing I had it 🧠
