- I'm loving this new Archives release from Neil Young. It features studio recordings of the original lineup of Crazy Horse, most of which have never been heard and could have been the basis for a full blown Crazy Horse follow up to Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. This album celebrates Danny Whitten. He's up in the mix, proving what a vital part of Crazy Horse he was and echoing how sad his lost to the musical world was back in 1973.

Cowgirl was never the same without Danny.
Have always loved Danny Crazy Horse more than anything they ever released. The guitar pans on Down by the River on this album are incredible.. the solos, that’s Danny. I just listened to the full album and every take is incredible, I’m hardcore into Neil and his journey…. Danny is a highlight in the band for me. I don’t want to talk about it is masterful.. In Neil’s book he admits that Danny is better than him.. he also reflects on a UA-cam video by Danny and the Memories. It’s Danny Whitten, clean cut, no guitar, dancing and singing like a champ! By the way…. That Rockets album is pretty fucking good too. So worth the listen.

The first solo Crazy Horse record is great! On Tonight's The Night, the gatefold photo is a picture of the band on stage. Under every player is his name, Danny Whitten's name is there under an empty spot on stage.

Wow, if there are more Danny Whitten demos out there, they really need to be released somehow. I only discovered who danny whitten was about a month ago and It hit me like a lightening bolt. He truly was an amazing artist and singer. Some of the harmonies he sings with neil are phenomenal too. ❤

Interesting. I knew something about the origins of "The Needle and the Damage Done," but didn't really know much about the specifics. I'd like to hear some of this stuff with Danny in the band.

He was the front man of Danny and the Memories. He also was the main contributor to the “Crazy Horse” album with a gnarly horse showing teeth. He had a band called The Rockets with the bass player and drummer who became crazy horse… great album.
