Jeep Wrangler JK Transfer Case Shift Handle Swap How To - B & M
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 вер 2018
- Here's another VERY EASY upgrade for the AutoEdits Jeep Wrangler JKU Rubicon, the B and M Extended Transfer Case Shift Handle!
This handle will fit into Jeeps with Automatic or Manual Transmissions and moves the shift knob into a much higher location, making it easier to reach and gives the driver more leverage on the shifting of the transfer case. I'm always careful when shifting from 2 to 4 wheel drive and when going to 4Lo.
I absolutely love the way this thing looks and feels in the Jeep!
Stay tuned for long term use and life with this.
B and M sell the shift handles for the manual transmission separately and I've been very happy with that so far!
Here's a link to the Jeep upgrade list on Amazon were you'll find both the Transfer case shifter and the manual trans shifter from b&m:

I have a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Hardrock 2-door. 6-speed manual. You're right about this transmission. Looking real hard at either the 2020 Wrangler Unlimited or the Gladiator with the manual transmission. I've seen the two items you installed. Glad to see how well they worked. Great product. Glad I found your website.
HundredThousand Subs!!! Congrats Jason!
Great video dude this is totally what I’ve been looking for
After seeing the precision shifter video, I took the plunge on that and absolutely love it!! Ordered this today and can't wait to get it installed. A little unsure about the position and height compared to the shorter stock T-case shifter but love the look of the B&M and that it matches the shifter I already installed! Thanks for the great vids!!
You’ll like it! Thanks so much for letting me know about it!
Definitely need more adventures like someone else stated ! Those are the best bring pinto along as well keep up the amazing work
Been watching your Jeep videos for years. Just pulled my JK out and will get back into it.
Woop woop! Always a good day when a new pinto video is up!!!
Awesome!!!
It’s so fun to see your honest excitement when you work on your Jeep.
I'm really glad you can appreciate that! I know how lucky I am to be doing these upgrades on my junk!
Awsome bro, I didn't know how much I could add on to my jeep now thanks to you all I wanna do is work on my jeep thanks bro
CONTINUE WITH THE AWESOME VIDEOS!!!
Will try to continue.... thanks so much!
Awesome video as always brother! Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks!!!!
Great job Jason! Keep em coming!
Thanks so much, I'll keep trying!
Always like watching your videos more ram videos. Visiting your great state these weeks. Keep up the great job.
Thanks! I do have some VERY exciting upgrades for the Ram coming up soon!
Love the look of this. I saw their teaser about the t-case shifter on their FB page a few months ago. I made a comment about it saying they need to add the H-Pattern to the transmission ball so they match. Hopefully they consider it. Can't wait to get these in mine!
My JL is still pretty much stock but like you said, it makes me happy. Just looking at it makes me smile. Only had 2 vehicles that I can say that about. The JL and the FJ Cruiser. Congrats on the 100K. No doubt this channel will continue to grow.
Thanks so much! I hope the channel continues to grow, I enjoy doing this very much. Glad to hear from another car nut!
Great and easy install Jason. Thanks for the video.
Thanks dude! Will you be on trail to sema?
Thanks Jason for another great video. Keep the upgrades coming. You are giving me more ideas for my JK and more “why” looks from the wife. Lol
#sorrynotsorry #LOL
I swear seeing pinto in your videos it make your channel so much better. She is such a cute dog.
Glad to hear this, thanks for the input!
I like them. I think they look pretty slick.
Oh and its been awhile since we've seen the ram definitely enjoy watching that beast of a truck
Got Ram upgrades coming right up!
Thanks for the awesome install videos thus far! I just ordered both the B&M shifter and transfer case handle. Hoping to tackle both next week. I just picked up my JK in February, and I've been working on it non-stop. So much fun!
Awesome to hear! Quick tip on the shifter install... pack some grease on the shifter assembly before installing it and it will break in faster and feel smoother!
@@AutoEdits Thanks! I actually picked up just the handle for now. I'm hearing that alone makes a big improvement in feel by getting rid of the rubber isolator on the factory shift handle. If I still feel that I want the shorter throws, the shifter assembly will be next!
I just finished the install of the shift and transfer case handles. I can't believe how much of an improvement just the shifter handle made! Replacing the sloppy OEM rubber isolator bushing with the billet aluminum piece completely changed the shift feel, even while retaining the stock shifter assembly. I uploaded a video to give a few more installation tips and an overview of both handles installed.
Every time i watch one of you videos i end up spending money!!! keep up the good work !!!! Quality Videos! Quality products!! You da man!
HA! Jeepin can get expensive when there's all this good stuff to get...LOL
Just installed this upgrade. I have a 6 speed manual, 2017 JK. I Really like this product. The cool factor is way up. I had a bear of a time getting that plastic console cover back on though. The Shifter is Langer and turned once installed so it’s a bit tricky. Also, my parking brake didn’t go up as far so I had to torque the plastic a bit to get it to go back on. The way I position the seat, and shift, there is no issue with my knee hitting the shifter at all. Great video. Gave me the confidence to try it myself.
So glad you like yours as well... I'll bet that even with those battles it was kind of fun!
Did my transfer case shifter today.... My 2010 was a bitch to get done... You newer guys have it so much easier.....
It was worth it.....😁
AWESOME video! Thanks for posting.
- Jason @ B&M
HOWDY Jason! This thing rules.... great product!
AutoEdits Happy to help but you and Pinto did all the hard work!
- Jason @ B&M
Congrats on 100k!!
Thanks a 100!!! LOL
Thanks a 100!!! LOL
Oh yeah!! Nice woop woopHA HA! What Brice said! Congrats!! Well deserved.
Hey that cool I’m definitely getting that, thank u for the install and review, can’t wait to do it to my automatic
So far, I'm loving this thing!
After seeing you replace your transfer case shifter I ordered one for my JKURD.
I still like this swap!
Great install.....
Added to my list....
Yep, sorry about that (not really) this is a pretty fun one!
Congrats on the 100k!
Thanks!
I definitely need that for my JL
Great looking shifter and congrats on reaching 100k!
Thank you! And Thanks so much!
@@AutoEdits Love your Jeep miss my '15 JK.
PS Your next video should be how to fix your snapper lol.
Good video congrats on 100K . Like a kid in a toy store with new toy! LOL Keep the videos coming.
Thanks!!!!
Love you videos Jason!
Wow a first and a Love... I love you too!
yes keep them comming it really makes my day I had a horrible day at work this vid cheered me right up I love Pinto!
Sorry you had a rough day but I am glad to hear the videos here are entertaining for you... means a bunch to me so thanks!!!
I didn’t know I needed this until now, lol.
That was exactly what I thought when I first saw them... LOL
Once again great video. See you at Moab!!
Yeah buddy!!!
Looks great!
It's pretty fun so far!
Jason congrats on the 100k! You're the reason why I'm gonna be buying a black JL Wrangler soon. You should do a meet up so we can meet a celebrity in person. 🍻
HA! Thanks so much... a meet up would be fun... which celebrity should we try to get to come??? LOL
Very cool mod twin sticks are bad ass !
Yeah, I've been pretty happy so far!
Pinto is the star. Great video Jason.
More scratches for Pinto!
Ohh man. I want it NOW.
Looking good!!
Thanks!
Great video
Well, thanks!!!!!!!!!
Came for the Jeep, stayed for the Pinto. If you shot this post-Rubicon that's a hell of a detail job too!
HAHA! Good eye! Yes I did spend a lot of time cleaning this thing up!
This will be great for Right Hand Drive JK's like mine here in Australia. Shifting from 2H into 4H is a bit of a 'bend down and reach around' situation from the right hand seat.
Never thought of that... I’d be curious to hear how it works out!
They've got to stop sending those defective cars to your country mate. LOL
Awesome upgrade Jason. Congrats for the 100K 🍻 btw i will find those “9 thumbs down” and hit them with the CJ 😂
HA! Thanks dude! It's all good... impossible to make everyone happy on the internet so I gave up caring about it a long time ago. But I do appreciate awesome people like you that have my back and support the channel for whatever I create!!!!!! SO THANK YOU!
Had to like this video before watching it
I clicked thumbs up and heart before even finishing your comment!!!! Thanks!
Jason, I also saw you in the KIA commercial which was a crazy surprise! Next time you tell them your driving!!! LOl!
I did totally want to drive but they wanted me to be able to concentrate on passenger-ing... LOL
Hopefully you don't shift the transfer case by accident instead of the transmission. :) Yep, manual transmission = theft deterrent. I have been told by my podiatrist that if I drive a manual I will have surgery on my left heel to remove a bone spur (had it done on the right heel - which is the foot I drive with, which is why my left has never bothered me).
Looks good now it's paired with the 6 speed stick.
Yeah like the Dude says in the Big Lebowsky "it really ties the room together"
Nice!
Man I love your videos! Just wish i could afford some Jeep parts. I have three other money pits called kids....
Yes, this junk is expensive... no doubt about it. I never made any kids so this is all I got...
I was looking to see if they made these for the JL yet. I'm contemplating a JLU Sport, which I will get a few aftermarket parts for... Katzkin leather and seat heaters, and a B&M extended
shifter.
I didn't even realize they made an extended lever, but when test driving the JL, I thought, "Boy, I wish this had a longer shift lever." Other than that, it was really fun to drive.
According to the BMRacing website they DO now make one for the JL.
I like it! Good job.
Hello
Enjoyed your video very nice
Thank you!!!!
I have an 2013 jeep wrangler unlimited SAHARA V6 3.6 automatic can I get HURST shifter knobs
Howdy! You have to get the B&M handle first but then any shift know will work.
You're right, I don't need it, and after watching your video, I want it, bought it, and installed it. 😂
Nice!
Your assistant needs a raise. Lol nice video.
Ok, more treats for Pinto the Dog!
Looks great i will probably end up getting this. I just wished they made an Automatic knob to match they only make the pistol grip version.
Yeah, I hear ya on the automatic shifter thing... It's still cooler than stock, so there's that!
Check with our friends over at speeddawg.com. They make an adaptor that will fit nearly any B&M Off-Road Shift ball.
- Jason @ B&M
@@BMRacingPerformance Perfect Thanks!
Man the stock transfer case shifter is a bit of a pain sometimes. That extra throw would be nice! Didn't even think of this mod, thanks!
HA! They got me the same way when I saw this.... now I got you... sorry not sorry! It is a fun one though, for reals!
@@AutoEdits I feel responsible to pass on this love! Haha
I might have to do this mod. I really hate the short transfer case lever and I don't like chrome in my interior anyway.
It definitely looks much cooler... even though I never really minded the looks of the stock one... I feel you on the chrome in the interior thing.
Awesome video now I want one for my Rubicon but mine is automatic, will this work on mine? Does it make it any easier to shift in and out of 4 wheel drive?
Thanks! Yeah, soon as I saw it... knew I "needed" it. This thing works with Automatic Trans Jeeps as well and does make it easier to shift... not that it really needed that.
Did the B&M shifter and handel upgrade. worked to hard for me. getting old! added an extention made from s.s. rod and rod coupler much better!
That's an interesting idea. I found that the technique I use is the key to smooth operator status. The shifter is designed to not let the thing "pop" out of gear so gentle motions to get out of one gear and in to the next feel difficult. If you use a more snappy approach to the getting out of one gear, the thing feels like butter. If you try to just drag out of a gear, it will fight you.
With the added leverage on the transfer case linkage it probably would be a good idea to replace the linkage with the Advance Adapters transfer case linkage.
Congrats on 100k. Now to large marge!
Thanks and true.
Awesome thanks
You're welcome, thank you!
Great to see your uploads again bud! Does the 4Low position interfere with the handbrake? Aloha
Howdy! The handle clears everything... no problems at all!
I wish they made one for the auto shifter. Tired of reaching down (have the Drake OR) when shifting.
Quick question...what clutch would you recomend on installing in your jeep?
we need more solo adventures, thoughs are the best
Hey, cool to hear this! Should I schedule a quick one up in the hills by myself... so much easier to make time for those!
AutoEdits Yes! that trail would be a good video since you got the lift on it. I really liked the Death Valley Tent Camping along with the la to seattle videos; because the situation you get into are funny and relatable.
I don’t even have 4wd and I want it! 👌
I totally get it! LOL!
Pinto is ready to go!
I would put a few extra of the linkage plastic shifter bushings in your glove box (connects the cable to the lever), just in case the extra leverage causes it to break. (After breaking that stupid bushing on the boat ramp with the stock T-case shifter I carry spares.)
This is the first I've heard of that with the JK's. Good suggestion!
www.advanceadapters.com/products/715596--heavy-duty-jk-cable-shifter-upgrade/
Do you have a P/N for those bushings and a SOURCE beside the dealership ? Thank you.
Nice review/install. I like the look.
Do you know if the have a replacement knob for the auto to match?
Yes I know I have the auto. Lol
Nothing wrong with auto trans... few times I wished this one was LOL . They don't make a "matching" auto handle but they do have a pretty cool upgrade one that is in the family.
AutoEdits cool thanks. I’ll check them out for sure.
Pinto- “You see that gnat, boss?”
HAHA! She hates those thing!!!
Man I thought you were a jeep guy. I just saw you in a KIA ad. LOL
Silly question. What phone mount is that, and how has it held up with all of the offroading you have been doing lately?
Cool
I saw you in a KIA commercial last night!!
Yeah buddy! I had so much fun doing that.
So is that kias awd actually descent, most those awd bog down now.
I saw that same commercial ... jumped to the edge of the couch and said "Oh crap, that's AutoEdits" ... "oh wait, why is he riding shotgun and not driving ...?"
Believe me, I wanted to drive but Richard did an awesome job!
Hi Jason, i have a question for you
I've seen a video from another JKU owner with a manual where he drives relatively fast on a gravel road and the shift lever starts shaking violently.
Did you ever experience this with your jeep and if so, did it get better with the precision shifter ?
My stock shift tower did do that... it was awful. The precision shifter completely solved that.
Very cool! I love these small mods that give lots of satisfaction! I noticed at 10:43ish, your knee brushed up against the shift knob. Do you find your leg/knee hitting this quite a bit now?
I left the knee bump in on purpose for that reason. I have bumped it a few times while I'm getting in the seat but that's the only time it's really a thing and doesn't bother me at all. I'll let you know after some more time driving and off roading.
@@AutoEdits - Looking forward to the long-term review! It looks b@d-@$$! I'm big on the "clean-look", and I think this part, along with your rig exemplifies that!
Nice vid.. Surprised you didn’t clean the dust cover on the T-Case.. Slippin.. Ha Ha
Be right back.... (pulling center console right now and cleaning)
AutoEdits Haha.. What happens when you become a celebrity.. :)
I was thinking the same thing.
Every time I think I'm happy with everything on my JK, I'll see some new accessory I need to get! I should really stop watching Jeep videos on UA-cam all the time, it's bad for my wallet lmao
Michael Fallen that is one of the problems with her Jeeps
Yeah, sorry about that.... kind of... but it's so much fun to tinker and tweak on these things!
AutoEdits Haha, you don't have to say sorry, I do this stuff to myself lol. But you're right, it's always fun to tinker and try new things out on your Jeep. It's really cool that you can basically customize every aspect of a wrangler to make it your own, not to many cars like that nowadays! Congrats on 100k subscribers as well!
Same here, I guess there's a reason why they're called Just Empty Every Pocket...
My only problem with this is the shift linkage is already pretty weak on a JK, so adding extra leverage could cause some problems down the road if you’re not super careful shifting gears on the transfer case.
I never had a problem shifting mine and always take great care to make proper shifts. I agree that getting more leverage on making bad shifts probably isn't good but this thing looks and feels fantastic in place so I'm stoked.
I don't doubt that at all, and yours appears to shift easier than most, probably because you actually use yours. But for the people that don't often use their T-case and just want to swap the shifter for the looks, they may find themselves stuck in gear with a floppy shifter if they're not careful pulling in to gear.
@@AutoEdits I just have a question. Can you apply the emergency brake while in 4lo? In the video, it looked like the E-brake would hit the shifter.
Absolutely! Everything works exactly like it should.
Maybe I should do a how to shift your transfer case video?
Mustang, Mustang, Mustang!!!!
I know I know I know!
I always wiggle it out of the room🤗 ......... good vid.
You got me there... lol
AutoEdits I usually dont do comments like that but I just had. All in good fun. Thanks for the reply.
Do you need this one, no you don’t. Do you want this one? Of course you want this one!
Nice motto! Bit dangerous but i like that
HAHA! I'm just trying to be honest with you!
I have a question have you done any upgrades with the front axle? Since u have installed the 37” tires?
AutoEdits awesome thanks man I’m doing it..I want 37” tires so bad!!!!
I really like this shit I mean shiftter
Will this fix the annoying rattle when you accelerate?
Yep, no rattle at all with this thing.
Hi Jason, Thanks for a good video! I've had mine installed now for about 4-5 months. At first it was great and was always a really smooth shift. Now once the transmission gets hot, the shifting gets really hard to switch between gears, both in and out, I pretty much have to smack the shifter to get it in or out of gear. Transmission fluid is new and levels are fine. How has your shifter been holding up over the past five years?
That sounds like a shifter link issue... check that plastic bushing on the end of the cable and the transfer case side. Hopefully it's not an issue inside the t-case.
@@AutoEdits sorry I should have clarified it better and on the right video, I realized after I posted the question. I've got a manual and I swapped out the stock shifter and box that switches the 6 speed transmission with the B&M one like you did. I was just seeing if you were still liking your shifter and it acted like it did when you originally installed it.
Oh gotcha. Yes, the shifter still performs as expected. My only problem was one of the bolts on the shifter handle broke and it would spin at that bracket under the center console boot. I called Holley and they sent me out new screws and it's been solid for another few years now.
@@AutoEdits Thanks a lot for the update, I appreciate it.
Hi Jason I just installed the b&m because it was popping out of first gear. I like it a lot and it has seemed to stop the gear popping. My question is does it get a little easier to shift after awhile? It is quite tough in some gears to get out of gear especially 3rd.
It does break in and takes a bit of getting used to. Use a more "snappy" motion to get the lever out of one gear and to the next... you'll see what I mean when you try it. Since this thing is designed to not let the thing pop out of gear... a slow dragging motion like I used on the stock shifter doesn't work... it fights you. Give it a try and you'll love it even more.
AutoEdits ok thanks. I have been doing the snappy thing since that seemed to be the only way to shift it. It is nice that I don’t have to worry about it coming out of gear except when I want it to.
Does it make it hard to adjust your mirrors looks like it is in the way of the knob?
Not in the way at all!
What if I'm completely stupid and pulled down the transfer shifter instead of the transmission shifter?
Then you will go from first to second and pop a wheelie! LOL
Do you have a video of your com radio? I couldn't find it.
I didn't do an install video on it. It's a Rugged Radios ABM25 www.ruggedradios.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2180
Looks like its too high and too close to the right knee when in 2H.
It's definitely not to high but I'll let you know about the knee thing after I drive it more.
Pinto is the coolest😎
I like her too!
My 2011 JK is hard to shift into 1st, 2nd and reverse at times.
Have to turn the engine off to get it to shift into those gears.
What is up with this?
That sounds more like a clutch issue. Look into that first.
@@AutoEdits
Already replaced the slave and master as well as put the B&M shifter handle on it.
Still having problems.
Was thinking about replacing the clutch and throw out bearing.
Hello. Do you still like this lever? Does it get in the way while shifting or hit your knee? Thanks.
I still LOVE this lever. Shifting is great and every once in a while, if I spaz out, I'll touch my knee to it. Would do again 10/10
Thank you.
You should have used a new capture nut. They are one time use and could fall off. Would be a real pain if it came off on the trail.
Yes, that would be a pain. Let's see how it goes... feels solid to me.
Did you replace the cable too or just the shift handle?
Just the handle.
Is that shirt from Dirt head Dave?
WOW! Yes it is... his old shop in El Cajon, CA. Excellent spot!
