I knew Sinead, I'm sure she would have enjoyed your reaction. Sinead was diminutive in stature, massive in talent and gigantic in soul. she was beautiful from within, she never tried to wear beauty or have it painted on her. Apart from a massive, innate talent, her vocal style and techniques were greatly informed by Irish folk music and 'Keening' a style of vocalisation often heard at Irish wakes and funerals. This style is taken further by her friend and fellow performer, Dolores O'Riordan, the lead singer of Irish band the Cranberries. alas, also no longer with us but quite delightful as a singer.
I'm usually not a big fan of those "Vocal Diva" vocal athletics, they often fell very "fake" and "show off" to me. But with Sinead O' Connor, it feels real, real emotions, real improvisation in the moment. She was gifted and unique, that what makes her a legend.
Love her. She really seemed to have an unfair life. She deserved better from this world. You should watch the original video. So captivating. Song written by Prince.
Very bold arrangement in that nothing in the arrangement hides any small errors of the singer. Any small mistakes are completely bare to the audience. Everyone makes errors here and there on long, tiring tours especially w/ all those mini-adlibs. Great performance.
This is the single greatest display of pure integration of passion, emotional investment, baring of the soul with uncompromising transparency, she should have simply disappeared, and drifted up to the heavens, as an outro, it certainly looked to me that it was her intention with this performance.
I've always loved Sinèad. She has the voice of an angel and her passion when she sings always reminds me of Janis Joplin. While their voices are very different, the emotions they portray are similar and real. I love when a singer makes me feel that passion. RIP, Sinèad and Janis. Gone but never forgotten... 🕊 ❤
I once bought a used CD copy of Sinead’s ‘Best Of’ many years ago, and it slowly grew on me. One track in particular drew me more and more in. It was used in a film, which I then saw, and that connection turned me into a fan. Sinead was very bold and had such an activist streak, that she often took a lot of heat for. But people most often failed to grasp what she was trying to say. This performance is so striking and emotional, for the reasons you mentioned. In particular that sustained belt just sounds loaded with deep emotion from her heart. The news of her passing stunned me, as I was just sitting down when the notification suddenly popped up. It is painful to know she is gone. But during her life she was highly spiritual, and I truly want her soul to forever rest.
Sinead O Conner politically was way ahead of the times and suffered for it yet her voice was timeless and absolutely Beautiful she deserves Legendary Status for her honesty and Bravery to speak & sing the truth
*When this song came out it went No1 all over the world...and she got many awards but she also got Billboard's World's No1 Single of the Year. You should have done her original video as well as this live version back to back. It's what made her famous*
I absolutely adored your analysis of this song. I've been a long-time Sinead O'Connor fan (R.I.P). Thank you so much. I feel like you kind of understood her expression and never criticized her methods being extremely unique.
Another insightful and appreciative reaction sweet Aaliyah of one of God's gifts to the world, great music! I happened upon this live version just 2 days ago and just love Sinead's free spirit in this performance. Music was a great comfort and inspiration in her often stressful life. I remember watching the official version for the first time with about 12 to 15 people at the neighbourhood tennis club when it first was played on Canada's Much Music video channel. Everyone suddenly became quiet, stunned by how much emotion, soulfulness, sensitivity, talent and beauty she projected with her unique voice, the powerfully sad lyrics and those lovely eyes that revealed her soul. I've been on a binge of watching reactions to this masterpiece the last 2 days and it causes deep emotional responses including many tears. I have just one request of you Aaliyah if you could please perhaps double the size of the screen so that we can better see the performers expressions and the finer details of the scenery and instrumental techniques would make your reaction videos even better for us who don't have perfect vision. 🕵♂🌹🎼🎶
Totally agree, shes probably one of the most impressive singers I personally have ever heard. Clearly in this recording she's also performing and, well having fun :-P But listening to the original recording is is in some sense even more impressive, especially for her vocal range and control. After all, no auto-tune what so ever at that time...
I have heard this song 5 mil times because my ex played it on the loop lol but this is the first time I seen it live and she really was passionate about it. Thanks and so was you Aaliyah
With the troubled life Sinead had she could sing the phone book and bring tears. Not sure if you only react to live performances but here's a few links one of a single studio take and one live from Rachel Price. (Studio) ua-cam.com/video/lcUeothSPyc/v-deo.html . I've seen many Sinead reaction videos pertaining to this song, but to hear and see your reactions makes this extremely expediential! Yes, I'm obsessed... can you blame me? You both are the greatest! 💪 Happy upcoming holidays! 🎃 🦃 🧑🎄
Lovely reaction. RIP Sinead. Curious what you would think of the original music video. It's a lot more personal and less theatrical (of course, no stage, no crowd), but no less effective in my opinion. Thanks!
You nailed it! Best video ever! Thank you so much! ❤❤ I must say, you are so talented and gifted as well as Sinead! ❤❤ I can't stop rewinding this video! Thanks again!
Beautiful song, written by Prince, absolutely a hit by Sinead. Her emotions in this are real and she was controversial before it was the in thing. I can't wait to watch your reaction.
Sinead trained in opera a little bit in the early 1990s. Check out Sinead’s cover of George Gershwin’s “My Man’s Gone Now” from Porgie and Bess. It’s usually sung as an opera piece, but she puts her own spin on it. I don’t know of a live version…she probably never performed it live. There’s a video on UA-cam of when she was recording it, but it doesn’t include the finished version, so it doesn’t do justice to how well she sang a very difficult a-tonal piece of music. Here’s a link to an audio-only video: m.ua-cam.com/video/f7c84ekme7M/v-deo.html&pp=ygUic2luZWFkIG8nY29ubm9yIG15IG1hbidzIGdvbmUgbm93IA%3D%3D
I was wondering how Celtic singers like Sinead have a certain sound other singers don't. I wondered why that is. Is it because of their Accent ?? Patrick from Wilmington Delaware
There is an ancient type of singing from Ireland called "Sean-nós" singing, you can look it up to find out more. Many would say Sinéad's sound and the unique sound of other Irish singers, both male and female, stem from that tradition.
Aaliyah - react to Troy live if you want to see maximum emotion, combined with vocal control - She also sang on a rap track my friend wrote Marxman / Sinead O’Connor - ship ahoy Loved your informed reaction. ❤️👍🏽👍☘️
Thank you for another great reaction to a legendary performer! Have you reacted to Annie Lennox yet? If not, you should look for a live performance by her of "Why" or "No More I Love Yous"!! Keep up the great work on your channel!!

🥰🥰🥰
I agree since the video version is etched on my soul. But here when she stomps her feet it seems so real.
Sinead didn’t change keys or run octaves to embellish - it’s all her way of emoting and expressing the song to the best of her abilities. ❤️👍🏽👍🤣
For me sinead and janis joplin were in a class of their own
🥰🥰🥰
sinead is one of those people that just demands respect. everyone tried to make her a pop star and she did her own thing.

What was the song? "Heroine" with Edge? or "Thief of your heart"?
They are both great!
“You Made Me The Thief Of Your Heart” from the film “In The Name Of The Father”.

She's so awesome her clothes are falling off during the crescendos.
Sinéad is so missed. There is a big hole after her. Thank you for giving her space. 💙

It's not just about her versatile voice. It's about the emotion she is putting in to it. It's causing some of the vocal variations we are hearing.
