My favorite thing about all digital adaptations is how streamlined they are. I've played Root in person a few times and the games have taken forever because people are constantly pulling out rulebooks to double-check things. The downtime between turns is excruciating. That doesn't happen in digital versions.
i dont have that problem because if something feels wrong we can check it after the game, and if something seems broken or like it shouldn't be allowed then we can quickly check it it also helps that my friend can quote the law like the bible
Woodland alliance is probably the hardest to play with. My favorite is the Eyrie just like how things can fall apart if you don't pay attention to everything
As someone who hasn't played any version of root, this looks like a great way to dip my toe in. I could use Tabletop Simulator, but this looks great and would szve a ton of time.
Gary Faust more coming! I started live streaming and those livestreams are coming to UA-cam too! But if you want to watch early! Twitch.tv/lordeoftheboard :) thanks!
Any news on this? I've played with friend OTB and we would like to have a championship, we can't always meet so the digital version would be perfect, but we'd like to use all of the factions
Aw man, if you hadn't gone for the two free Marquise buildings, the two actions would have been available and it would have worked out exactly with the 2 Sympathy! So close!
I loved your content since the beginning of ROOT board game as well as all the Villainous + Dune videos. I feel like the online environment do enable more and more strategies and I'm looking forward to what the game has to offer in the future!
I greatly enjoyed this video - thanks for commentating everything going on. It helps me understand the game. I just recently purchased all of the Root board games / expansions available and also downloaded the mobile app to learn to play, and this was quite exciting and helped me understand a bit more. Thanks!
If you hadn't attacked the buildings at the end and instead just used your actions to spread sympathy you would have won. Because you were two points off, and your next sympathy was 4. And the buildings gave you 2. So just spreading the sympathy would have given you exactly 30.
jackskellingtonsora the reason I miscalculated was because I accidentally skipped my daylight and was going to train an officer. Which would have given me the 6th action I needed to get the last sympathy. But yes I could have done that before. It’s hard to catch those things sometime 😂 I just had a 21 point swing on stream! And won
@@LordoftheBoard Oh your swing was super impressive regardless that turn before. The way you kept the cats from winning was pretty spectacular. You just missed that one detail to exploit the swing and blocking of the cats and win.
You had no warriors left to train so that would not be possible. You should have spread in the bottom mouse clearing. Than moved fight the two cats buildings. Make a warrior sympathy there en then do the move up top and then organized there. That's 5 officer moves and 32 points and the win. But easy to say afterwards 😅. Like the playthroughs! Keep it up!
great game! Nice to see that its possible to come back from behind. I guess it needs some luck to push though. In an offline game, I would see myself doing a lot of convincing and negotiating...
I'll definitely play with you. How do you want to organize the gameplay? I think this is a great adaptation of root. The game needs some sort of undo feature or "are you sure," option during turns. An indicator for the chat window would also help. I messed up a game myself by round 1 turmoiling.
Logical Gamer yeah in this game I have a mess up where I accidentally pushed past my daylight phase 😭 yes for sure! I am on steam and discord. Dm me or email me and I’ll give my handle!
Awesome video, and I'm very new to the game of Root! These type of videos will really help me learn a lot more, and I hope you cont making them! I would like to see some gameplay of all 4 in action, and the plays that you perform! :)
I haven't played in a while since it was released, but I thought it was a faithful adaptation. I had some gripes with how slow the animations were and how you couldn't skip battle animation. I brought it up with the developers and hopefully they address it.
Loved this type of content! Would be awesome to see daily/weekly games on the channel! Super cool to see your point of view and thought process. I never really thought of the game being a game of "Checks and Balances" but you're so right. Keep it up!!
Great port. Need those expansion factions, partisans/exiles cards and maps...hopefully soon as DLC. Also an undo button, as long as you can do it before spoiled info (ie card draws). For example when I accidentally put in the wrong decree and want to immediately change it...that’d be nice
Patrick Spragoo torally agree! Great tool to get people into the boardgame and for players to be aware of small rules they may be missing. There are a few adjustments needed! But it’s still early access and they are working hard! It’s wonderful.
Lord of the Board with that in mind, I do also hope they add in all the expansion factions. I heard a rumor the clockwork expansion factions will be thrown in.
What an exciting game! I learned a lot. I try to play the Woodland Alliance on the app against AI, but it seems like the Vagabond and Marquise ALWAYS attack me every single turn. Also, I know French isn’t everyone’s forte (see what I did there?), but it’s pronounced “mar-kee doo kat,” and is a portmanteau of “My Kitty Cat” when said quickly enough. :)
Thanks so much for watching! Ahh that can be a problem. I have definitely enjoyed playing against live people more so far :) Interesting see originally I thought so too but I saw that it is Marquise not Marquis. Marquis is pronounce Mar Kee But Marquise is the female version pronounced Mar Kees. Lemme know if I’m completely wrong 😂 thanks for commenting!
Lord of the Board By Orin’s beard, I did more digging, and I think you’re right. That bothers me because it ruins the portmanteau! Though I suppose it does refer to the Marquise as a “she” in the rules. Mar-keez it is, I suppose!
as the vagabond, can you give aid if you don't get any items from the faction you're aiding? Also; can you craft items that are no longer on the item tracker?
I made it up. I’m sure others have done it. But I am releasing a video next week showing it in action :) basically you put a bird card and another suit card that matches your starting clearing in recruit with the charismatic leader. Then get 12 birds. Go into turmoil and choose despot
Yeah it can be pretty complicated. I think what helped me most is to realize that the suit isn’t always the same suit as the cost. And some factions care about just the suit of a card. All factions care about the cost for crafting.
@@LordoftheBoard Thanks a lot, so the cost is always listed in bottom left, so "paying the cost" just equals CONTROLING the same clearing? Say cost in card is 2 bunny, then all I need to do is CONTROL 2 Bunny clearing? only thing i need to do is discard that SINGLE card... correct?
I'm confused. I played the tabletop version and as Alliance I always start with a Fox card and Two Birds while my hand stays as 2 Mouse and 1 Bird, but you got 3 Birds in your opening hand. Are you playing on a different set up of rules for turn one, or is this set up is randomized on opening hand?

Hey! So the WA actually have a special ability where they get the higher roll as defender and as attacker :) likely because their troops are so few. And so their warriors are very resilient
