    Great reaction! I hope you are understanding why when us “older people “ don’t like music today with its phoney drum beats and auto tone. This is why because we grew up listening to real musicians who played their instruments and created music with their own talent. This is why we for the most part today’s music can’t compare to what we grew up listening to.

    • @the-NightStar
      @the-NightStar Рік тому +1

      You know, i'm 48 years old myself, so it's not like i'm a spring chicken either, but whenever I hear this crotchety old 'get off my lawn' boomer talk, the least I expect are fair criticisms or at least pronouncing or spelling "autotune" right when criticizing it, which would at least make it sound like you know what it is. (Also only a small minority of songs these days feature it, in only 2 genres of music, both of which are not nearly as prominent anymore as they were in 2009-2011, and autotune has fallen drastically out of favor these days)
      And when I hear people bemoaning "fake instruments" and then pointing to Pink Floyd (who I LOVE by the way), all I can do is laugh because Pink Floyd PIONEERED "fake instruments" with synth, and keyboard samples from Rick Wright, and Roger Water's oscillation tinkering which created an entire plethora of "fake instrument" sounds that were more versatile than the real things. One only needs to listen to Dogs or Any Colour You Like to hear perfect examples of them paving the way for exactly the things you're complaining about now. If you REALLY WANT to point the finger at modern EDM music for being what it is today, you should re-point that finger back at bands like Pink Floyd for pioneering these EDM and electronic experimentation that led to what's used in current pop and rock today.

    Don't know if anybody has mentioned that there are 4 Pink Floyd albums that are concept albums, and should be listened to from first to last song as there are no pauses between songs (except for cd versions, which force a break to be able to find the next track), and the whole album tells a story from start to finish. These albums are, in order, Dark Side of the Moon 1973, Wish You Were Here 1975, Animals 1977, and The Wall 1979.
    Most reactors get away with doing Side 1 Side 2 reactions, at worse they break it down by song. But almost all stay up.
    I was lucky to have an older (5 1/2 yrs) brother who turned me on to good music at a young age. And I have come to realize that my generation is spoiled as far as music is concerned. I was born in 1960, and I grew up when all the best groups (in my opinion) were creating the music we are still reacting to today!! This was the era of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Dire Straits, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk and so many others. It is so much fun to watch people get introduced to the music I grew up on, and still enjoy today!

    Pink Floyd in my opinion is in their own genre... there will never be another.
    Pink Floyd albums are concept albums... think of them like a book and each song as being a chapter of said 'book'... I suggest you do album reactions with each song being that days video release... start with Animals... that concept album is about the different types of ppl in the world....Pigs are the politicians... Dogs are the rich and powerful and sheep are you guessed it, the general public blindly following the rules set by the two previous groups. I personally think that Dogs is their best song of any album!

    Personally, I feel like Pink Floyd really began hitting their stride with the album Obscured for Clouds. That album has some great tracks that work better as standalone pieces. Likewise, Meddle has some amazing tracks as well, capped off with the opus Echoes (which you already checked out in Pompeii). As others have mentioned, their most famous albums are more concept albums with The Wall being the most narratively driven of the bunch.
    Depending on what you want to hear, some fast-paced bangers: One of These Days, Young Lust, Money, Happiest Days of our Lives/Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2; ethereal and dreamy: Us and Them, Shine On You Crazy Diamond (6-9), Brain Damage/Eclipse, Wish You Were Here, Great Gig in the Sky; assorted amazingness: Dogs, Have a Cigar, Sheep.

    Very early Pink Floyd is a strange thing. They were very peculiar and thoroughly caught up in psychedelia and deliberate weirdness. Therefore, if you listen to the recordings from the 60s and a few others you will likely have a WTF moment or three. Many aficionados say that they really gelled as a band with the album Meddle and then reached greatness when Dark Side of the Moon was released.

      Yes - there is a dichotomy between what I was introduced to on the radio as a teen, and, as a deep dive for me and finding The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn album from '67 and listening to it; I must say: I appreciated it, as well...but, quite different. Interstellar Overdrive was very interesting...and, I try to remember "the times" in which they started, too. From what I've heard, it was very early in EVERYONE's career, then, and the development and growth of the band, musically and spiritually, between the late 60s and early/mid-70s is AMAZING. but, Syd Barrett's influence has NEVER left this band and Piper was heavily influenced by Syd. When they first started-out: many of their songs were experimented with in the clubs and would last a very long time and would be a kind of trippy, psychedelic JAM SESSION...and, I mean LONG songs of "ZONING OUT"....but, that's where they learned a LOT and gained and used all of that knowledge, going forward. I'm so GLAD THEY DID, or we'd have NO FLOYD!! The creativity and raw sincerity of this band in both their lyrics and in the soul of their sound....and the craftsmanship and musical technicality is, in my opinion, unparalleled....and, many have said: they ARE their OWN genre. There's no one similar to compare them TO...and, I'm thankful to know their music and experience it.

      Idk man Moore and Obscured By Clouds are awesome! For that, Piper at the Gates of Dawn (with Sid) is absolutely amazing! That was like what, '67?

    • @richardthresh3587
      @richardthresh3587 Рік тому

      @robertherring9277 Oh, I think they're all great ... but was just observing that many consider that 'Meddle' and beyond were the band's zenith. My starting point with the band was the compilation album 'Relics' - which is fabulous - and then I moved on to 'Obscured By Clouds' which I think is excellent. Being only 12 in 1974, funds were an issue and I didn't get hold of copies of their earlier albums until after the release of 'Wish You Were Here' (and didn't hear 'More' until the early 80s).

      @@richardthresh3587 I agree! Relics is awesome! Only floyd I didnt "like" (i own it all plus many underground from the UK in the late 60's and early 70's) is the last one Endless River. I never even ripped it to FLAC for my archieves. Have 3 versions on Dark Side.

    Don’t worry about trying to decide on a favorite. All of these songs will grow and evolve in your spirit, depending on mood, age, experiences. I’ve given up on identifying favorite Floyd songs. So many of them are at the top of the list at certain times for me, and it always changes. Just enjoy the ride! But if I had to choose with a gun to my head, the songs where Roger and David trade off on vocals, or David and Richard trade off on vocals (like Echoes, Time), would all be up there.

    I love watching your expressions as the song plays out. There's a lot of genuine emotion there, as the music finds its way into your soul. Pink Floyd does that to all of us who know their music: glad you're getting to experience it as well, young man.

    When you were as impressed as you were by the intro I knew you'd be blown away by the rest of the song. This is a great one. There are definitely a few songs from Pink Floyd that you might not like, but I agree with you, let's hear the great ones first. How about On the Turning Away from the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour. It's very beautiful and Gilmour hits you with another heavenly solo. 🤘🏽💜

    I used to get mad when people called me boomer for saying that i pretty much prefer older music that what's out there now days, i have nothing against whata popular now, but, thats the point, i have nothing against nor in favor, it makes me feel nothing, while in the other hand, fade to black helped me search for help when i was depressed, Black by Pearl Jam halped me when i suffer a super bad break up, Painkiller by Judas Priest thought me that I must be mu own hero, etc
    I'm a 40 yo mexican cougar, i was lucky to ne born in the same year as Metallica, so i grew up as they became giants, and i got so much shi... And hate for listening to metal and rock, ans thats why i like reaction videos of people reacting and smiling, and feeling, to the music that i have loved my entire life and knowing, it was ok to love it and rebel to all those that said it was trash.
    My favorite song by Pink Floyd is "Comfortably Numb" is in the top 3 of the soundtrack of my life.

    Mollyboy I'm an older music fan and I love your appreciation for classic music like pink Floyd. I was lucky enough to work center aisle 50ft from the stage for 6 shows 2 years in a row and they are one of a kind. People would stand up forcing us to make them sit down so all could watch the shows of many other bands but pink Floyd shows were filled with music lovers like you and I who were there to listen and take it all in. So we never had to really work just watch the shows. It's memories that carry me thru old age giving me great memories to draw from. Trust me there's so much great music that younger people haven't heard which is why it's awesome watching you appreciate the greatness of a man like David Gilmour. Keep looking for more great shit cuz it's out there buddy. I don't subscribe very often but your reactions got me to subscribe. Thanks for reminding me of the shit I was lucky enough to see from any band that came to Toronto thru the 80s and early 90s.
