iris is that one song that plays at the end of those romantic movies this version however is something that would play at the end of this "battle of the bands" esque movie
Which is something I don't understand about the original. Despite the romantic instrumentals, everything is laced with a certain nostalgia. It's very clearly about longing for happy times long past, about wanting to relive the good times without the inevitable pain that the world insists on judging you for, yet it's frequently played during happy couple moments in movies. It makes zero sense to me.
@@KarlAndArma4ever That is certainly a good interpretation. I think however I might get why so many romantic movies use the song. This is a song about finding someone who understands you in a world full of people you don't, or maybe even can't, trust. The first verse is entirely romantic but it becomes stained by this trepidation in the end of the second bar. "And I don't want to go home right now". Clearly the person who is singing the song is quite happy in this moment, but the moment must end eventually. And then by the end of the first verse, we now know that the protagonist will never be the same after this experience, "I just don't want to miss you tonight." Because they know they will. The chorus in this light suddenly sings a very different tune. Suddenly we get a confirmation that our protagonist feels separate from the world. "And I don't want the world to see me, cause I don't think that they'd understand" is a powerful declaration. While they say "think" the emotional delivery in conjunction with the previously stained verse, should tells us that they "know" the world won't understand. That is all they have ever experienced. Until this moment, with this person. The rest of the song very much still follows suit with this idea. In fact despite how dark the words are, the last two lines of the chorus (especially the last one) really solidify this as a very romantic and vulnerable piece. "When everything's made to be broken" acknowledges that time is fleeting, eventually everything comes to an end, whether by death or other tragedy. "I just want you to know who I am" is a declaration that despite all of that pain and heartache, they are reaching out. This is important enough to reach out for.
It has been... *so many years* since I last heard this. And oh my god I'm actually crying wtf. ;~; Thank you, Jon. Thank you so much for covering this, it's just... so good.

I used this song as part of a tribute video to my horse mondo when he passed away when I was seventeen...I miss him and I miss my horse Bullet who passed away on Nov 29th...this song always makes me cry every time I listen to it. Thank you Jonathan for making such a beautiful rendition of this amazing song.
Browsed youtube for a harder rock cover of Iris for my workout playlist because it’s an emotional song and deserves a slightly angry and emotional cover. This did not disappoint. You have an amazing voice!!!!
Hey Jonathan! My husband and I were listening to this- as this is one of my all time favorite songs- great job on it, BTW!!! As per your question, he threw out Simple Man (Lynard Skynard). Hope that helps. Keep up the great work!
I mean, it kinda fits though. You're giving up your health and safety to be with someone. Nothing can keep you away from the other person. But... yeah. Don't.
This one is different than the other covers you have done. I genuinely love every song Jonathon does but something is just so incredibly powerful in your adaptation of this one. Im not lying when i say ive listened to this nearly 100 times at this point. I just keep coming back. I feel really moved by this one in a way i wasnt expecting. its a beautiful song as it is but this one was really performed with a different level of Passion then the others i feel. You really nailed the emotion of it and in comes through very strongly. Beautiful to listen to and i applaud this performance.
I love the passion behind your work Jonathan, whether it be a cover or an original song. I hope that you are doing well and that you continue to find success. Thank you again for the amazing cover!
Yes, this is pretty much on par with what I imagine a metal cover of this song would sound like. Love how the distortion adds weight and darkens the songs. And the vocals are great. Good choice to use the piano after the solo. It's like an auditory pallet cleanser before the final chorus.
The line, "I don't want the world to see me," resonates as an inner voice yearning for recognition-a voice that, when unleashed, reveals an absence made tangible. Softly expressed, it soothes, yet in its raw, amplified state, it embodies the unspoken. The following line, "cause I think they don't understand," reflects the isolation that often accompanies vulnerability, paired with a world that appears fractured. This cover encapsulates a profound contemplation on the transient nature of humanity, seeking clarity. While the original version maintains a gentle artistic subtlety, the rock rendition promises an authentic, potent channel for expression, one where the lyrics can truly assert their depth and impact.

I had many father figures. Some family, some friends of family, some were teachers, among others. Growing up, most of them told me at one point or another that boys aren't supposed to cry. So, once I became a teen, I made the argument, that boys may not cry. But there's a difference between a boy and a man. Then I told them to grow up like I had. Ironic.
And oh my god
I'm actually crying wtf. ;~;
Thank you, Jon. Thank you so much for covering this, it's just... so good.
And you can't fight the tears that ain't comin'... @1:15 I see you there. Totally awesome cover of a totally awesome song!
Hurt by Nine Inch Nails though something closer to the Johnny Cash version would be really cool
Check out Caleb Hyles's version of Hurt, its bloody good.
What, the 'drunken grandpa' version?
@@Dani_Ptitsa Trent Reznor himself thinks the "drunken grandpa" version is better than his own

That chorus gave me goosebumps
You have a rare voice that could cover Disturbed: The Sound of Silence.
He did it three years ago ua-cam.com/video/0ovL6MTnacc/v-deo.html
He did, and it's on UA-cam. Nails it like usual.
He has.
You all know "The Sound of Silence" from Disturbed is also a cover, right? Awesome, better than de original but is a cover.
This song has such deep meaning to me. It’s the song that connects me with my horses who have passed away.
What’s most impressive is the pure emotion you convey through your voice. This is such an emotional song and it is truly evident in your voice.
A cover of broken by seether would be a good one to hear you sing, this one is a really good one of my favorite childhood song
oh, he and Caleb would absolutely tear that up, and I would absolutely love to hear them do it
I was thinking him and grace doing it, when they did dark horse and E.T. they were amazing together
“HE HAS RISEN BABY GIRL!”

You're lying to yourself if this song doesn't evoke some long forgotten memory that is bittersweet, that you smile yet cry while listening too.
So right, zo3
Reminds me of my days with my grandpa, I miss him to death.
I'd rather just forget those memories.
Damn true.
For me its loss of youth that gets me with this song
“And I’d give up forever to touch you” not during this quarantine you won’t!
It's so sad
Aww man.. Your comment here crack me.. Lol..
I mean, it kinda fits though. You're giving up your health and safety to be with someone. Nothing can keep you away from the other person.
But... yeah. Don't.
Lmao this made my night.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This one is different than the other covers you have done. I genuinely love every song Jonathon does but something is just so incredibly powerful in your adaptation of this one. Im not lying when i say ive listened to this nearly 100 times at this point. I just keep coming back. I feel really moved by this one in a way i wasnt expecting. its a beautiful song as it is but this one was really performed with a different level of Passion then the others i feel. You really nailed the emotion of it and in comes through very strongly. Beautiful to listen to and i applaud this performance.
it's great eh!?
indeed! Have a great day and God bless! :D

Yuh! At least one of their songs.

Okay, Jon... Serious request here, from my heart.
Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me My Friend
I have a really personal attachment to the song- it makes me think of my Great Grandmother, who I only got to know for a couple of years (she died when I was 8 and a half years old. I'm 25 this year) and not a day goes by where I dont wonder what she'd think of me, now after all I'vebeen through... and After hearing you sing this I now wholeheartedly believe you could do it justice.
Love from a longtime fan.

“I dont think they’ll understand “ dude ur vocals during these lines are as good as an angel coming down from heaven and singing. WHAT A VOICEEEEEEEEEE!!! Man ive been getting nonstop goosebumps the past 7 times i listened to this. The band, the guitar, the mood and my GOD your vocals! U are not meant to be a star. You are meant to transcend into the next level of music! I bless you my friend. May your vocals remain as angelic as it is and may you grow and break barrier of how music can affect human beings. I tip my hat to you
John, I know you're disdainful of doing covers, like it's "selling out," but you put such an emotion into this that really got to me. I've listened to it three times in a row now and am definitely going for a fourth. I love your originals, but the way you handle covers is a thing of beauty too.
I would like to do all i can to support Jonathan, He looks so sad when he sings this. Everyone, Let's bring a smile to his face by sharing this video with friends, family, cousin & your pets!
Edit: From the look in his eyes, Looks like he lost someone he loved. We all lose those who we cherish so much. I have, It is a very hard time for all who does lose them, I understand how it feels, It feels like a massive whole in your heart.
Bruh you're reaching wayyy too far
@@desenagrator I'm just beeing honest with what I think... Also to tell u the truth, I didn't think that comment would even get a single like...
Perhaps. I like to think this was another cover specifically selected to reach out and let us know that.. well.. he wants us to know who he is and he wants to be able to make a living off his originals.
Whichever it is, this song sends my heart through the blender every time, and Jon's version is so utterly sincere and powerful....
I didn't think I would like a metal cover of this song. "Iris" is one of my all time favorite songs. But the amount of raw emotion and power you put into this, my goodness! Another great job, man! Definitely another favorite!
I could be in a happy mood but as soon as I hear this song it hits the depths of my soul. I usually tear up and when it's over the moment passes. That kind of evocation of emotion is what I miss in music. But music doesn't always have to bring out the hurt, all star in any mood makes my happier. Thank you Johnathan for covering this and all the other song you have. I'm truly mesmerized by all your videos. Thank you for sharing with all of us!🖤🤘
Loved the song and love the cover, my request for a cover would be ‘wherever you will go’ by The Calling 🎵
OMG YES.
I'm tuning in for this one! Takes me back to my younger years! LoL
This song brings back a sense of nostalgia even if you've never heard the song before.
dude this is great
You can taste the soul that has been poured into this performance with your spine while listening to it. Incredible, just incredible.
This is by far my favorite cover of his. I love all of the covers he's made but, this one hits so deep.
Weird suggestions: that song from Tangled. "I see the light ", Hercules "I will go the distance ", or Tarzan's "You'll be in my Heart"
He's already done the Tarzan one

That fact that you pour your feelings, emotions and heart into this cover is amazing, I've been listening to tour covers for the past year and a half and I cant get enough of them, keep up the good work Jonathan
You should cover "You Found Me" by The Fray
Edit: or maybe "Dare you to Move" by Switchfoot
your version gives me chills every time I listen to it. You really re-invent the song with your own flavor, thank you!
Was literally listening to this on Spotify and seen the yt notification that u made a rock cover. Y e s
Jeez...just...chills with the first chorus.. it is just great mate.
The original is like the sad feeling you get when it comes to love.
This version is like the angry, hatred feeling you feel in the end.
Least that's how I perceive it
This is one of those songs I've always heard somewhere else but never knew the name. And now that I know the name and Jonathan covered it I can enjoy it 10x folds

Ironic. I didn't recognize that I still had growing up to do myself. This is one song that brought me to tears as a grown man. It's a powerful song with many powerful meanings to different people, and it deserves to be heard by as many people as possible.
Late 90s didnt give us many songs that have the lifespan to last 30 or more years. But Goo Goo Dolls gave us this gem! It isnt going anywhere!!
Brilliant cover Jonathan!
It was a beautiful day with me and my boyfriend listening to this (original) song and we had such a nice moment together.... A few days later he broke up with me.
