@ericengbloom3857 It's so crazy to me that like 80% of the North American population thinks anyone cares so much about their life that they need to record every cathartic experience they have. Like, not a single person cares, I'm sorry. We do not need to see your shitty POV of an NFL game, we're gonna watch it on TV if we want to see it. You aren't special, stop recording everything like your life is a reality TV show. Sorry for the rant.
My old dog, LOVED this song! He'd just crawl up the to tv or stereo and his ears would turn and just lay down on his belly and listen to it. He was a good lad, thanks for making the song that he listened to for the last time in 10 years as we put him down. Won't mean much to everyone out there. Some idiot talking about his old dog who loved this song and one of the few things that ALWAYS calmed him down after we adopted him. Still brings tears to my eyes thinking about how chill he was with this song! Not this rendition but damn.... Miss the little fella!
To everyone who loses their furry children, it means everthing, and I know how much you're missing your good lad. It's amazing to witness when some dogs and cats respond to music, isn't it?
Every fucking time. What a great performance. I remember seeing DMB at Giant Stadium and they were playing Two Step when the rain came down in buckets and bolts of lighting came crashing. The best ever.
Electrocuted, from what?. From the inductive signal coming from the pickups? Those very small voltages have no potential for shock. They are amplified later in the chain.
the fact that he also sang this w out an earpiece in and was just living in the moment and wanted the cameras to capture the audience… it’s one of the best performances I’ve ever seen honestly

Yep, it's really sad that phones being held up in the air is all you see at basically every single concert these days -- like it's not gonna be available in hi-def the next day on UA-cam!! Like WTF, enjoy the show, sing and dance the night away!!

Usually bands close up shop when it rains like this. It can ruin instruments and electrical equipment. Even if it ruined ever bit of hardware seen here and more, it was worth it. This is still talked about and viewed 20 years later in 2024 and seen as one of the best live performances of any band all time, and some of that due to the rain giving the esthetic effect of sadness, cleansing, renewal, all in one session. A wonderful song about love, loss, and knowing you must give up something to truly feel alive. It's not just the song, but the moment and everyone feeling the emotions together in peace while being rained on yet all parties involved wanting to be there. We need more of this.
Seen Judas Priest with it raining 🌧️☔ but it was not heavy pour down concert was where I live in Washington State at the casino in Airway Heights near Spokane opening band was Uriah Heep really good concert singer Rob Halford was not going to cancel the concert because of the rain
My son is 14, and neck deep in songwriting. I sent him this as an example of the cohesive power of life performance , and told him it’s one of rocks best live performances. Learn from authenticity.
@@goigus2004 phones were built different and that’s absolutely not the point he was trying to make. You literally gave an example of the opposite of people who were in this crowd.
@M Mac Mate, it's the triumphant return to their hometown, as conquering heroes, after spending 6 years traveling around the world, on tour. In the city in America most famous for it's great Lakes epic precipitation. I'm not even a Goo Goo Dolls fan, and knew this just from the title. To paraphrase a great philosopher: "Fat, drunk and ignorant is no way to go through life, son."
Wow. Okay so I didn’t want to comment but I feel I need to, watching this brings up so much emotion. My dad, Steve Janoiski, tragically passed on the way to this concert. He was my biggest hero, and I believe everytime I hear this song he is watching over me. God bless, ❤🙏
It is more than most people realize. After their lives totally changed, this was return to their hometown, where the community had supported them for years, though they never had a hit. Many in the crowd were family and friends that had supported them throughout the years, in a concert in the middle of Buffalo. The city famous for it's precipitation, became a star in the show.
The best performance I’ve ever witnessed. Yes, I was there … and I’ll never forget it! I was with my girlfriend, who has since passed. I lost her, but memories like this will never vanish. RIP, RAD. I miss us. 💔
This is one of the best live performances in history. The rain, the aura, the fact that he took out one of his in-ear monitors to be in the moment with the crowd. 5 minutes of pure bliss ❤
@@jonathanpitcher5229 "he took out one of his in-ear monitors". Those are actually safer than blasting stage speakers and wedges at a performer. They must be able to hear themselves singing, and possibly any IFB that might be used. In-ear monitors are not "protectors", though they aren't nearly as loud as a wall of speakers playing over 120dB.
This might be one of the greatest live performances I've ever seen. Everything is just perfect, the rain, the crowd and the unbelievable voice of John at 03:57 gave me the chills down my spine. Wish that I was there.
SAME, I WAS A HUGE FAN BACK THEN and people made fun of me for it ... saying it was too mainstream. I'm still a HUGE FAN. They are a huge reason why I love the movie 'CITY OF ANGELS' as well. This song was written for that movie.
He stands in the rain with everyone, plays the perfect song for a rainy day, Then he makes sure to point the cam at the people who came to see him. Truly a once in a life time moment from an amazing artist.
This is so true, but I’m going to a concert in March next year, and I’m certainly filming a few of my favourite songs. The Goo Goo Dolls are an amazing pair of people, and I want to cherish and remember the gorgeous performance forever. I agree completely, concerts aren’t to be filmed, for your attention is focused on your screen, and not the bigger picture. Concerts are to be enjoyed and appreciated.
this is simply one of the best live performances of a song in human history. no one can convince me otherwise. this vibe is just unexplainable. everything about this is just breath taking.
I don't know shit about being a rockstar but this has to be ever rockstars dream, right? Everyone in the audience getting drenched and none of them care because they're focused on you giving one of the most amazing performances of your life.
24 yrs ago a beautiful young man asked me to dance with him to this song, I was 36 yrs old recovering from an abusive relationship and we both sang at the top of our voices "yeah you bleed just to know you're alive" and then he kissed me - what a moment!! And for a brief few months he showed me that there were still nice guys out there. Thank you Bruce Tinker, I have never forgotten you. Thank you Goo Goo dolls for the most beautiful and meaningful song 💜💜
Not just the rain, the way he casually pushes the camera round to face the crowd. This is such an epic performance. Imagine how difficult it is to perform on those conditions
his entire life lead up to this moment. Singing in the rain, hair all plastered to his face like the young kids. It was all downhill from here for John
3:36 . There is my mother left side center. Shes in so many of these videos. It's always so cool to come back and watch them. I remember this night. I was at my dads on the lower west side.

How can someone’s voice be even better live in a rain storm?
My old dog, LOVED this song! He'd just crawl up the to tv or stereo and his ears would turn and just lay down on his belly and listen to it. He was a good lad, thanks for making the song that he listened to for the last time in 10 years as we put him down. Won't mean much to everyone out there. Some idiot talking about his old dog who loved this song and one of the few things that ALWAYS calmed him down after we adopted him. Still brings tears to my eyes thinking about how chill he was with this song! Not this rendition but damn.... Miss the little fella!
that’s adorable I’m really sorry for your loss but that’s amazing you have a song like this to remind you of the good times ❤
To everyone who loses their furry children, it means everthing, and I know how much you're missing your good lad. It's amazing to witness when some dogs and cats respond to music, isn't it?
I love dogs. Thanks for sharing your story
Sorry you lost your furry friend, much love❤😢

Does anyone else get this warm nostalgic feeling with this song... everytime
every fucking time im crying. no matters where ang when i hear it ;d
DNT hold it against me but I heard the song for first time and I am in love
Every fucking time. What a great performance. I remember seeing DMB at Giant Stadium and they were playing Two Step when the rain came down in buckets and bolts of lighting came crashing. The best ever.

Electrocuted, from what?. From the inductive signal coming from the pickups? Those very small voltages have no potential for shock. They are amplified later in the chain.
Mass audience singing “I just want you to know who I am” takes the meaning of the song to a whole new level.

@@dvantebibbs6305 No, _Iris_ is a beautiful song; beautiful songs have the ability to do that.
I love how I’m watching this right now (I’ve already seen it a million times over the years), and I see the replies are fresh from 13 hours ago meaning this concert and this song still lives on. And by the way I absolutely LOVE when he turns the camera. I agree, it’s so iconic. I wish I was at this concert.

I totally agree
This is what a real concert should be. Yeah it's great to be able to record the moment on your phone but I promise you situations like these are felt more as a memory than through your phone
You said it best. People have no idea. This is how you enjoy a concert.
Yep, it's really sad that phones being held up in the air is all you see at basically every single concert these days -- like it's not gonna be available in hi-def the next day on UA-cam!!
Like WTF, enjoy the show, sing and dance the night away!!
Makes me sad this vibe at concerts doesn’t exist anymore 😢
If everyone’s recording the moment
Nobody is experiencing the moment
She has such an authentic presence on stage.
The kind of presence you’d expect to get just by having a conversation with her and it’s beautiful

This is exactly what the world needs nowadays.
Seen Judas Priest with it raining 🌧️☔ but it was not heavy pour down concert was where I live in Washington State at the casino in Airway Heights near Spokane opening band was Uriah Heep really good concert singer Rob Halford was not going to cancel the concert because of the rain
Well said my friend !
The gear is all waterproof. If outdoor gigs were cancelled cos of rain half the gigs in the world wouldn't happen.

The aura radiating from this performance is insane! 🔥
One of the greatest but unknown live performances ever. The atmosphere is incredible from the band and the crowd
u hit it on the head, this is the first time seeing this and its one of my favorite songs!
34 million views, I don't think its unknown anymore
For real, this is incredible!

This is one of the best live performances in history. The rain, the aura, the fact that he took out one of his in-ear monitors to be in the moment with the crowd. 5 minutes of pure bliss ❤
Yeah thats killer.
It's nice but the ear protector stops u from going deaf
@@jonathanpitcher5229 "he took out one of his in-ear monitors". Those are actually safer than blasting stage speakers and wedges at a performer. They must be able to hear themselves singing, and possibly any IFB that might be used. In-ear monitors are not "protectors", though they aren't nearly as loud as a wall of speakers playing over 120dB.
This might be one of the greatest live performances I've ever seen. Everything is just perfect, the rain, the crowd and the unbelievable voice of John at 03:57 gave me the chills down my spine. Wish that I was there.
