the fact that he also sang this w out an earpiece in and was just living in the moment and wanted the cameras to capture the audience… it’s one of the best performances I’ve ever seen honestly
I love how I’m watching this right now (I’ve already seen it a million times over the years), and I see the replies are fresh from 13 hours ago meaning this concert and this song still lives on. And by the way I absolutely LOVE when he turns the camera. I agree, it’s so iconic. I wish I was at this concert.
I'm 36. I remember driving with my parents to my summer league baseball game and this came on the radio and the beauty of hit me in the face. 97. Or 98 something like that. I just have that memory.
@M Mac Mate, it's the triumphant return to their hometown, as conquering heroes, after spending 6 years traveling around the world, on tour. In the city in America most famous for it's great Lakes epic precipitation. I'm not even a Goo Goo Dolls fan, and knew this just from the title. To paraphrase a great philosopher: "Fat, drunk and ignorant is no way to go through life, son."
It is more than most people realize. After their lives totally changed, this was return to their hometown, where the community had supported them for years, though they never had a hit. Many in the crowd were family and friends that had supported them throughout the years, in a concert in the middle of Buffalo. The city famous for it's precipitation, became a star in the show.
This is what a real concert should be. Yeah it's great to be able to record the moment on your phone but I promise you situations like these are felt more as a memory than through your phone
Yep, it's really sad that phones being held up in the air is all you see at basically every single concert these days -- like it's not gonna be available in hi-def the next day on UA-cam!! Like WTF, enjoy the show, sing and dance the night away!!
@@goigus2004 phones were built different and that’s absolutely not the point he was trying to make. You literally gave an example of the opposite of people who were in this crowd.
The fact that nobody tries to record the concert really blows my mind. How simple and nice was those years... They are living the moment without the need to record it.
This song loves the rain. I was once waiting for the late night bus at 2am, all alone the street was empty, it was raining and this song came on from my playlist. It was such an awesome moment, I can't describe. I saw the meaning of life in that moment.

I don't know shit about being a rockstar but this has to be ever rockstars dream, right? Everyone in the audience getting drenched and none of them care because they're focused on you giving one of the most amazing performances of your life.
Usually bands close up shop when it rains like this. It can ruin instruments and electrical equipment. Even if it ruined ever bit of hardware seen here and more, it was worth it. This is still talked about and viewed 20 years later in 2024 and seen as one of the best live performances of any band all time, and some of that due to the rain giving the esthetic effect of sadness, cleansing, renewal, all in one session. A wonderful song about love, loss, and knowing you must give up something to truly feel alive. It's not just the song, but the moment and everyone feeling the emotions together in peace while being rained on yet all parties involved wanting to be there. We need more of this.
Seen Judas Priest with it raining 🌧️☔ but it was not heavy pour down concert was where I live in Washington State at the casino in Airway Heights near Spokane opening band was Uriah Heep really good concert singer Rob Halford was not going to cancel the concert because of the rain
24 yrs ago a beautiful young man asked me to dance with him to this song, I was 36 yrs old recovering from an abusive relationship and we both sang at the top of our voices "yeah you bleed just to know you're alive" and then he kissed me - what a moment!! And for a brief few months he showed me that there were still nice guys out there. Thank you Bruce Tinker, I have never forgotten you. Thank you Goo Goo dolls for the most beautiful and meaningful song 💜💜
Truth, but cell phones had existed for years by the time of this concert, just no iPhones for another couple years. People probably just didn’t want to ruin their phones.

He then was asked to write a song for the movie City of Angels, and what he came up with eventually became Iris, and he was so happy to finally have finished a thought. Iris became another big hit, and changed his life forever.

I really appreciate the fact that despite it being 2004, it was still filmed in HD. UA-cam didn't even support HD til 2010. Whoever made that decision to use those cameras knew this moment was going to be one of the most beautiful things to ever happen.
Man, there's HD concerts from the early 90s using super 35
Either HDV MiniDV cameras or film.
@@maddmaxx636 It was Sony HDCAM, introduced in 1997. HDV very likely would not be used in a professional application like this and that rain would have totally screwed with HDV's low bitrate compression.

My old dog, LOVED this song! He'd just crawl up the to tv or stereo and his ears would turn and just lay down on his belly and listen to it. He was a good lad, thanks for making the song that he listened to for the last time in 10 years as we put him down. Won't mean much to everyone out there. No cellphones no fucking media, just pure art !
are you fucking kidding me? this is 20 fucking years old the cellphones back then could only record for like 1 minute and then the storage was fucking full plus the astronomically bad cameras. Like let the people enjoy the concerts the way they want it.
Lol, 'no media'. Other than the 7 camera media production all around the venue that's bringing you this performance.
Sir, it's come to my attention that you may have a burning resentment towards cellphones. (and the media.)

I agree the best decade of all!
On reflection an age of innocence and when things were simpler.
I'm 36. I remember driving with my parents to my summer league baseball game and this came on the radio and the beauty of hit me in the face. 97. Or 98 something like that. I just have that memory.
Every generation believes their era was the best as it’s their introduction to music. That said I’m an 80s baby so would have to agree!

@M Mac 😂😂😂
Preach. 🙌
One of the greatest but unknown live performances ever. The atmosphere is incredible from the band and the crowd
u hit it on the head, this is the first time seeing this and its one of my favorite songs!
34 million views, I don't think its unknown anymore
For real, this is incredible!
unknown? this has 35 million views
But another year is coming to an end and here I am listening to this magnificent work of art.November 11th!!!❤️
This is what a real concert should be. Yeah it's great to be able to record the moment on your phone but I promise you situations like these are felt more as a memory than through your phone
You said it best. People have no idea. This is how you enjoy a concert.
Yep, it's really sad that phones being held up in the air is all you see at basically every single concert these days -- like it's not gonna be available in hi-def the next day on UA-cam!!
Like WTF, enjoy the show, sing and dance the night away!!
