My music instructor has always said to me and other bands: go softer to go harder. The dynamics change makes it hit more. You going the softer, gentler first half, slightly more energy for second chorus, back down for the bridge, and then HIT us with the last chorus. Gorgeous as always. Would love to hear your spin on any Coldplay song, or make people REALLY confused if you did banger metal version of a pop band song. (Imagine Bye Bye Bye but metal)
The way you go from calm and gentle to emotional outburst is always such a gut-punch in the best possible way. It always feels like this person has been trying to remain calm in a "I would really like it if you stayed with me. Please?" then the dam breaks and they're like "F**k it, I really can't lose you, you are my world and I'd have nothing if you left." I got similar vibes from your "What Could Have Been" cover. Truly beautiful performance and reimagining of the original song
This is my mom's favorite song. She calls it, "The song that says it all about longing for acceptance and love." You really brought that feeling to it.
She's so right, sounds like a wise woman💯... My mom had a very strong, clear and beautiful voice, grew up with her singing in church, around the house, pretty much everywhere😂😂 We lost her unexpectedly this past summer at 61, been missing her beautiful voice so much lately that I came to YT to sing for her/to her today and what a gem this is, wow!🔥🔥🔥 Mom would've loved it but she's apparently big-timed me by joining a better choir LOL... Hug your Momma when you get a chance, God bless!
"This song touches my heart so deeply that I’ve cried multiple times listening to it. Your voice is incredible-beautiful, rich, and full of emotion. The song is crafted so amazingly that my heart trembles every time I hear it. Thank you for such a moving piece of music!"
A quiet, contemplative song for a quiet lull in an uncertain time... No one is getting younger and everything seems like it's almost over... I Love you All! And we all love you Jonathan Young!
"Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol came out in 2006, when I was 16. I ended up buying the entire "Eyes Open" Compact Disc maybe two years or so later. This song brought back a lot of memories. Working at McDonald's, listening to CDs in my car every chance on my breaks, driving to work, driving home. This cover is particularly good, Jon. Gave me goosebumps at timestamp 1:58. The echoing effect is a cool choice, I love how it's different enough from the original to stand out. So much passion when the heavy metal sound comes in! I was floored. Rock on Jon, you are amazing!!!!!
When my mom was fading away in November, this was one of the songs we played for her shortly before she passed. Hearing your version just hit me REALLY friggin hard. Great job.
This song mean's the world to me. My stepmom was very important to me and my childhood. Helped pull me out of a horrid situation. Life happened, we grew apart. Though would still meet up when it was physically possible. With or without my siblings. Then I got the call. It had been about 15 years. She wasn't likely to survive the next couple days. I hauled ass cross country; spent a month at her side. Working night/swing care. The hours I spent laying on the sofa next to her bed shooting the shit. As this song rang in the back of my head. This is a wonderful version, close to the version I sang in my head. I really miss her. Thanks for making this.
The second half is definitely my favorite part. Please don't take this in the wrong way, but I just kinda wish you hadn't added so many effects to your voice for the verses in the beginning. Your voice is so amazing, and I feel like all the special effects in the first couple minutes kind of detract from it. The chorus and the end are amazing though. Especially when you went from all amped up to pretty much everything but your voice stripped away, the raw emotions in both of those juxtaposed takes were so powerful.
This was mi ex's favourite song. She got it from some show about doctors. I was never really into that series but since it wasnt a big deal to me, ill just join her whenever she was watching it. Man, she really like it. But most of all, she liked when i went visiting her with icecream and a coke. Specially on rainy days and the appartment all to ourselves. Simple things. We were happy. Maybe we didnt had that much in common. Many discussions would ouccur. But still we loved each other so much. I was such a coward. I shouldve fought for us...
Dont let regret consume you brother. Sometimes, we fuck up bad. But, only so we take those lessons to heart and commit to something better. You will find that person, and when you do, you'll remember this. You'll do right by them, and you'll fulfill the plan for you life. God bless you my guy.
One of the most romantic songs ever created, in my opinion. Jonathan, the passion and joy you bring to your art is amazing to behold. (Wipes away a tear before running off to Spotify to obsess for a while.)
Years ago, my youngest Son would lie down on the floor with me, holding my hand whilst listening to this song. It was an amazing moment in both of our lives. He is 23 now and it's a memory we both cherish. Whenever I hear this song my answer is always, yes, I would lay down with you. It's a beautiful song and you did it well ❤
i lost my dad june 23rd of 2023. listened to this 2 days after it was released. such a beautiful song. not gonna lie, cried a bit. thank you for reminding me I'm only human.
Greetings from the UK, this song was huge here when it was released in my youth and is bringing back alot of memories. Really needed to hear your cover of this, thank you!
I absolutely love your version of this song. I have had it playing on repeat for days. You know how to show emotion in your singing and that makes all the difference.
Whoever had the idea during the last stream I'm grateful cause this is so beautiful and amazing. 💜 And damn guys, that was fast! Well done Jon and Brandon!
Man this hit me in the guts, so powerful, man I love it. The heaviness but melodic and then those double off timing just totally tops it off. More melodic covers like this please?
I haven't heard this song since I bought the album all those years ago and put it on repeat for a couple weeks. It's unbelievable how awesome this is. Excellent work.
I really love snow patrol and in this song you managed to put a lot more emotion and feeling through your voice and your way of being. I would give a response to this song (lyrics): "I wouldn't lie down next to you to forget the world, I would stretch out my hand to show you the garden that is exploding with life."
There it is: the Jonathan I fell in love with. You never left, but this style of accessible melody and smooth clear vocals, a la “Echo Chamber”, “Alone”, “Walked a Mile”, and “Bait”-or even most of “Starship Velociraptor”. Goodness, Jon, you’ve got a wonderful ability to convey emotion with range (beyond varying levels of aggression). Love it! Keep it up!
On the 17th of June last year, my partner of many, many years lost her struggle with cancer. I couldn't be in the room with her because COVID. Her favorite song was Chasing Cars, and in fact it's what I played her to sleep with. I think she would have approved of this cover. Gods but I miss her. Thanks for this.🥲
@jonathanymusic Brother, the beginning AT FIRST seemed overfiletered and underwhelming. Upon the ramp-up, it melded perfectly and flowed into the most violently beautiful storm. Amazing job, my friend.
It's been a long time since you made a clip for a cover, always a pleasure to see you entertain the camera. And the camera rail is really cool! Keep shining in 2024 Jon!
I always loved this song, especially since snow patrol are local to me, but man you put so much emotion into this! I'll happily admit I cried on the internet today. Much love
I think it'd be cool to see your rendition of Show Me How to Live by Audioslave As for this song, I can say nothing other than that you captured the emotions of the song gave them a bit of your own soul and turned them loose on our ears. Always a pleasure to hear you sing, whether covering a song or one of your own originals!
I used to sing along to this song all the time when it came out and hearing you cover with such passion and emotion is just too amazing for words. Incredible job as always.
This was an absolutely stunning rendition of one of my favorite songs. I love the sheer contrast between the almost lo-fi like beginning; relaxing, contemplative, almost synthetic with how metered out the verses and syllables were. And then the latter portion was just filled with so much raw emotion, a truly human outcry of passion, almost desperation to feel like you belong; shouting out to the void for someone, just anyone willing to hear your voice. At least that's my interpretation. Thanks for the feels!
I absolutely adore this version. This was the song me and my ex had our first kiss to, and I've struggled to listen to it since our divorce. This version is amazing, brought new life to it for me. Thank you
There will come a day where I will click on a video of yours and not be left in awe of your musical chops. Today is not that day. Stellar work as usual, Jon.
Jon don’t make me cry like this i’m supposed to be filming my own face and now it’s all puffy i gotta take a cold shower to de-puff it but then my hair’s gonna be wet in all the vocal footage i guess i could set my background to be rain so the wetness could make sense okay this is starting to come together thank you for making me cry with this beautiful song xoxo
The feeling you just forced into my chestcavity. Just wow. Well done. Just thank you I guess is what I try to say ❤ any chance you would ever do Radiohead Creep ? That song with your style and your tone I think could be such a great combo
What a Great Version of Chasing Cars, i feel the Passion and Pain in your Voice… That Version is the best i ever heard…. Going Deep in my Soul an my Heart. Greetz from Germany🤘🏼
Dude this killed me. I had a real shit day at work, and was just trying to relax afterwards in my bed, and I saw this pop up. I always loved this song, and the fucking power and emotion you put into this cover actually made me tear up. Thank you ♡.

2:21 and on... Dear god man, this is one of my fav cover version of ANY SONG EVER.

Yes he would do a Coldplay song great.

Ooh, I haven't heard this song in a long time, and this has to be pretty much the best way to listen to it for the first time in a while.
metal can be so powerful in a contained song like this
So beautiful and I love the way that you did the arrangement in the first half and then go all metal and belt it out in the 2nd. ❤
