My man, I cant even begin to tell you how beautiful this is. You absolutely killed it, and it sounds like you put your soul into this one.
With the light bars set to blue/purple, I kept expecting them to switch to red and Colm to tear into "Celtic rock" mode... and instead he just spent the full 3:52 reminding everyone that he's an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist IN ADDITION TO being a professional composer and an internet sensation of a singer. I can't wait for this song to hit spotify, I think this may be my favorite of your covers to date, which is saying a lot. The emotion you pour into this performance is incredible and does this song so much justice! And the instrumentals are perfect, and the build up to that heart-wrenching last few lines? God I remember this song from when I was a kid.
I was only a toddler, barely a child in the latter half of the 2000s, but I was old enough to remember songs like this when my parents would play them on occasion.

"Iris" is one of the most memory laden songs in my life, and this version is absolutely wonderful. There are times I've listened to the song and felt like the quiet, resigned sound Johnny used was perfect. Other times, it feels like it needs to build to this seething rage against the vagaries of fate and the pain of the world. You've captured that so perfectly here.

Iris is probably the song that means the most to me in the entire world, and it's really rare that I come across a cover of it that I like. This one is in some ways very different than the original, but stirs my soul in all the same ways, and I love it.
And the yell at the end is just perfect. It reinforces the pain and loneliness, which I think is the backbone of the original but sometimes gets diminished in covers.
Was going to say it's a hell of a range to go from wanting to go on a viking raid in one song to wanting to slow dance with a lover in the other...but then you killed it when the ending and proved you can do both without breaking a sweat.

Colm, this is one the songs for my wife and I. We loved it and played it for our daughter when she was born and struggling those first couple of months. I would play this song to get her to sleep. Besides being an amazing singer, I have such a soft spot for that wonderful accent. My father used to work on the London busses during the 60s and all the drivers were Irish. He picked up that wonderful Irish lilt. To me its so cozy.
