    Yeah the weather man sent that rain of yours to us. Coming down in 50 gallon drums today! We could use the rain here. Tulip poplar and locust are still in tight bud so bodes well for the floral bloom and nectar flow. Further south of us (40 miles) the locust are in full bloom. Just celebrated our 11th as well! Have fun with the young'n.

    Nathan, If you have a 7 pin trailer connector on the rear of your truck, you can exchange your battery clips for a female 7 pin and use the truck battery to power your pump. Keep from having a battery laying unsecured in the bed with the metal framed hose reel, and one less thing to lug around and remember to charge. I use a 40 gallon spot sprayer tank with this arrangement, and also have a diesel tank and pump setup this way. Your pump should only draw 1 or 2 Amps under load, so little risk of killing your truck while you are out working, provided your battery is good.

      Thanks! I’d heard of that but haven’t fooled with it yet. I do have a 7 pin.

    Love my bucket feeders I bought from Greg. The main difference for me is they don't take the feed as fast as the frame feeders. Sometimes that's nice. Other times I use the frame feeders too, especially for fall feeding. Buckets are great for Nucs!

    Why does the honey off a hive tool always taste better than out of the jar??? Being able to eat that fresh honey directly out of the boxes is a huge reason why I love the trade of beekeeping!!!

    Certan works great. U have to spray it on the frame not dip the frame onto the water. You can leave the frames than onto the suppers vertically so the comb dries from the spray max 24 hoyrs and you can stack the supers with the frames in a dried place. Works fine, 3rd year using it.

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  Рік тому

      Do you spray boxes or each frame?

    • @VENAL
      @VENAL Рік тому

      @@DuckRiverHoney I spray each frame from both sides and also a quick spray of the box. Leave them max 24 hours to dry out and then stack boxes on each other. Very simple and very efrective. No issues at all with the wax moth. Have also trued to stire frames with honey and no issues on them also. Bear in mind to make the mix correct as described in the label

    Dipping a comb in water when it is straight off the extractor may well promote fermentation in any honey residue. I'll be interested to follow your processes this fall. Great series.

    Another great video. Thank you. I was watching Gus Mitchell last summer. He stores his drawn comb outside by alternating the boc orientation so that light and air get into each box. I live in the vicinity of Lansing Michigan and stored my drawn comb that way last winter. I’m pleased with the results.

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  Рік тому

    • @markwelsch940
      @markwelsch940 Рік тому

      I think that works best with frames that have never had brood in them. The wax moth is looking for protein in the cocoons, not the carbohydrates in leftover honey or just plain wax.
      I don't know if small hive beetle ever gets into stored frames.

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  Рік тому

      Not during winter but they would go after full frames.

    • @DuckRiverHoney

      Thanks Russell! It’s a little early to tell. I think I have 30 or 32 strong production colonies left from the 40 I started with. Had 22 last year. So if the flow is good I should make more. I’ve grown from 40 to somewhere around 80-85ish hives as well.

    Your medicinal honey description sounded like wild cherry... But I know Tennessee and you probably have several minor flows depending on topography.... Have you considered using better bees honey test? I wonder if a honey label with actual scientific contents list would help marketing strategies. Interested in your thoughts.

      FYI , your OA treat and check drop method works. I have 22 hives and did treatment before supering. After 24 hours, 22 hives had 3- 15 mite drop count. Not bad for a whole Colony. The other 2 had 81 and 93. Yikes! More treatment on the way... Thanks for the info!

    Can you afford a film editor? I don’t usually have the time, but I recently had back surgery, so I’ve got some free time. I have modest experience, but a good eye and feel for film editing. I also have way more material than I have uploaded here. I use this simply as a support function, on occasion.
    I would edit the first piece for free, and if you like it, we can discuss a price.
    If interested, shoot me a reply.

    At 15 minutes into the video and after, you talk about shade and how it causes bees to grow more slowly, and have more small hive beetle pressure. I have read that about the Beatles before. But then you say something that makes it sound like they make more honey in the shade. Is that true?

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  Рік тому +1

      No I don’t think they make more honey in the shade than the sun, but that shady yard did have a higher average last year. It’s a good honey yard.
