    Love your Vlog's, you come across as a person speaking from the heart and I remember the days of raising a family and doing what it takes to make ends meet. I always look forward to watching your journey to get where you want to be. Lord willing you will get there, you have a great work ethic it would seem, don't overdo yourself though. Drive and hard work can cause issues further down the road, life is a balancing act, always keep your faith and pray about all. We are fallible on our own.

    Great video as usual. Definitely agree on larger hives not liking a queen excluder as much. My single deep hives take an excluder well because they have no other option. You explained it well. Thanks for keeping us informed. Your hard work is going to pay off big next season. Take care.

    For decrystalizing buckets I use a sous vide cooker and a farm trough. Can do 7 buckets at a time.

    Finding the exact response to queen excluders. They would not cross, even for drawn comb. Took off the excluders 3 weeks ago. Today they filled nearly every one, with nectar and many with capped honey. Im not sure if it is the excluder, increased flow. or a combination. I put the excluders back on today if there was brood or brood just below. Im out of drawn comb too so Im hoping to fill all of the drawn comb and double my drawn comb for next year. I am realy enjoying your series. It gives me perspective in my operation.

      Thanks Phillip! Excluders definitely have a purpose, but I don’t believe I’ll use them on big hives in the future, at least until the first harvest.

    For decrystallizing jar honey we use our excalibur dehydrators set at 104*F and it take about 6 hours for our 1lb glass jars, each of our excaliburs will only hold about 20 jars at a time so it does take some planning. Works great since we have some labels that are not waterproof.

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  Рік тому +1

      I’m not familiar with those dehydrators. Thanks!

    Nathan, if you stay that busy you can't get in trouble which is a good thing LOL. I am so glad to hear you sold out of honey. Much better than sitting on pails of it. How soon will you honey flow play out? Your daughter looks soooo cute in that dress.
    I always under super so that as soon as the top box is 1/2 capped I can pull the box, dry it and get it back on the hive. Some of the honey supers go on three times in a year which requires a lot less drawn comb. Doing under supering gives me no problems with excluders.

      Thanks Russell! Honey flow will be done by July 15. A lot is up in the air. Will sumac / sourwood be good in June, and will basswood bloom this year??? I’ve already tasted tulip poplar slacking off and bees working privet which is much lower quality. Hopefully it all works out.

    10/3 plus ground correct? If I was running 240V 30A speculative circuits I would definitely run 3 current conductors plus ground incase I need a neutral down the road.

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  Рік тому +1

      Yep, 10/3 plus ground. Should handle a clothes dryer, so it’ll definitely handle a bottling tank or band heater, drum melter, etc.

    At what point in your production do you think barrels make more sense than buckets? ie: # lbs?

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  Рік тому +1

      I’m hoping for 3500-4000 lbs this year and that’s very doable in buckets, but it’s going to get squirrelly trying to run two extractors without overrunning buckets. A sump and pump would make life a lot easier.

      Pulled 6 shallows and 1 med. Last two days. Extracted and gave back to hives that needed help. And I needed honey. Most honey was left over that they had backfield with capped honey. 15 and 1/2 to 16 and 1/2 % on refractometer . Very low moisture but last years honey
