I had pretty good luck with my last grafts over the years.. with those plastic jester (or what's their name) nucks and only one brood frame, one honey and three sheets. In a flow.. control for mated queens and put aside in their yard and left them be.. slowly grow over the summer without me checkin them up until September. Many would surprise me with how strong they are without me doing nothing.. I think that actually is the key.
I like experiments like that so I overwinterd 9 out of 10 of those plastic nucks this last winter.. and again 9 very strong nucks (one with moth larva) without tucking until March. They were about to explode and swarm on me.
So l would say do the grafting. It's always good to have extra queens. They won't swarm into a summer dearth.. specially young queens. At least my carnies won't...
I learned that from an old Italian beekeeper. He always made those last nucks with only one brood frame and one honey with min. bees

That is great that you got the big order. I found in business the bigger the company the slower they pay so beware. Looks like your bee numbers are getting close to what you want. By now (2 weeks) later I', sure you are on a good flow. Some are saying it is their best year yet for honey so hang on to your hat. Our tulips are blooming and the apple trees should start blooming later this week. Take care and that was a nice bass.

Thanks Russ! The flow has been good so far. I think we have one to two weeks left before it slows down.

Congratulations on the order, Nathan. I'm sure you've figured it out by now because thats what you do. I just got a deal struck myself with a little retail store here in my hometown who plans to sell my honey on consignment. I am also in the works to get my honey out to the state parks here in WV as well. Thanks for the video and hope you have a stellar honey crop!

Those darker queen will hone your queen sighting abilities and make you a better spotter in the long run! Like darker queens and try to keep them, just a personal preference. Tigers are especially nice and a dark chocolate is special!

Thanks Nancy! I told Cory Stevens we should use the CRISPR gene editing tool to put firefly DNA in honey bees so we can make queens that flash neon green.

@@DuckRiverHoney Neon green marker is much better than the grass green one! Like the pink markers too instead of the red and light blue in place of the darker blue. When looking for new queens you usually don't know what color queen you will find and that makes finding new queens fun as well. Part of the reason I like making increases and selling nucs. This past week checking hives I've been finding two supers full of nectar! Don't know where they are getting it all but can only attribute to everything being in bloom, having good flight weather and strong populated hives... Added additional supers as the black locust and tulip poplar will be blooming soon... will be having a week on and off of rain so those buds will be bursting soon. Such a balancing act with many balls in the air!

Congrats on the big order Nathan. That may have been what you needed to trigger you to step up your harvesting scale with larger and more efficient equipment. Time is $$.

Cash flow solves a lot of problems. I need a lot more cash flow to fund equipment scaling.

Great video Nathan and congratulations on the large order! I’m thinking you should be in your main flow now. Black locust just started blooming here in West Virginia last week and tulip poplar should hopefully be starting this week or next. I hope they’re filling your supers fast!

So if I want to requeen some colonies I can pinch the queen and throw a cell in with one of those protectors and I should be good? I assume this isn't ideal, but what would be the ideal cell installation situation?

Hi Nathan. I realy enjoy your Vlog. Someone else commented on the Hill Co Bottler. I've seen several vidoe;s on it. From the research I've done, it seems reasonably priced. It might be an answer to your time issue. Good Luck

You don't need bigger teeth, you just have to chew smarter (and faster). If you get bigger teeth you need bigger mouth and a bigger head, your neck might snap from all that weight. Your friend Bob always says that he got lucky with big investments, start calculating your risks into those possible returns, you're not a venture capitalist, you're a startup.
