The most humble and ordinary guy in the music industry, yet with the most extraordinary skills and unmeasured talent. Always with a smile on his face. Pure class act!!
Dave is a fantastic guitarist, he’s not one of those guys who thinks he’s better than anyone else, he just goes about his business and loves what he does. He’s definitely one of my favourites
Thank you so much for making this video guys. I was desperate for info on Dave's new guitar as well as his current rig. Please do videos for Jannick's and Adrian's rigs.
I’m a drummer and I get guitar face watching Dave crank out the second half of the Alexander the great guitar solo. Much love for Dave and the boys and of course all the behind the scenes boys and girls that make it happen!
Wow, Dave using Fractal Axe Fx III is a big change. The JMP1 from Marshall explains why is tone has this mid frequeny that cuts trhough the mix, and make his solos always good to hear,
Yeah..I always thought that he would be one of the last guys to stick with real amps. I wonder what stages/backstage will look like in 15 or 20 years...? Like..i wonder how many young guitar players/future stars will use amps...
@@michaelr.4878 Metallica, both James and Kirk are using the fractal axe fx3 for amp simulation. Dave, John Petrucci and Steve Vai use the fractal just for effects. The audio signal from these players is still coming from a tube preamplifier.
I have to say, when he mentioned at 2:43 that Dave Murray is playing exceptionally well this tour, I had to nod my head in agreement. Dave Murray is playing ABSOLUTELY WICKED and astonishing well, and his sound is SO.GOOD. on this tour. I think throughout the by now 16 concerts which I have seen them play since 2007 he never sounded better than on this tour! This rig is fantastic!
When I started to learn the guitar, late summer 1983 in fact, my main influences were - in no particular order - Michael Schenker, Gary Moore, Randy Rhoads, and the one and only Dave Murray!! His creamy and instantly recognisable lead (neck pickup!) tone on the 'Killers' album in particular can still send shivers down my spine... Absolutely brill. Thanks so much, Davey!!! 😁🙏
Interesting insight. It’s a good reminder that iron maiden would not be able to perform as they do without their team. HERE IS A SHOUTOUT TO ALL OF THE TEAM WORKING BEHIND THE SCENES!!! I’m looking forward to this Saturday at the o2!
Just came over from the bass rig video, the transition was so funny. Bass rig: here's a fridge rack worth of preamps, amps, converters, compressors, DI's, power amps, two 70's cabs and all of that for the stage volume. Then we have a tiny Tech21 that does all that on its own and sent direct out to FOH. Then guitars: Here are the old JMP1s that we don't use anymore, here's an AXE FX3 that reduced 90% of the gear's weight.
I spotted the custom shop headstock when I was in Krakow! Lovely to see this gentleman shouting out one by one all the luthiers and technicians, class act
Maiden always seemed like a band that had the attitude of "if it's not broke, don't fix it". Up until this tour, they used the same old beat up monitors, cabs, guitars, etc. But, it's kinda cool seeing that they are modernizing their rigs and gear a bit.
They had a period in the 80's where they had massive fridges of rack stuff and effects and wanky nonsense, and after that they went back to 100 watt amps and some pedals for a very long time, because it's just what they needed.
I have the Fm9. Fractal products are great for live shows. And it is no surprise we see them taking over the live rig of most artists. It is surprising for me to still see that huge mountain size neck heel on new guitars even if they were Fender and for old schoolers like the great Dave. I mean making a thinner heel wont hurt no one.
A lot of bands, after 40 plus years on the road, start to just go through the motions in their shows. But not Maiden. After 40 plus years on the road, they are playing better than ever and putting on even better shows than in years past. A testament to their dedication to the music of Iron Maiden and their fans. Doubt you will ever see another band who has reached the level of Iron Maiden despite the lack of "press" and support from radio.
Awesome! It's great that his rig is so simple, I've found that the guys with the simplest rigs usually have the best tone, and it certainly applies here! Thanks for sharing this with us!
It’s amazing all the work that goes on behind the scenes… yes most bands are amazing live , but the techs and road crew never seem to get the full credit they deserve…. It’s really cool at least to come on here to see the behind the scenes of what goes on etc Love the rig videos 😊😊😊😊
Thanks Colin for showing us Daves new number 1 guitar, its a real beauty. Dave, Adrian and Janick the three axe men of maiden are all fantastic players and I look forward to see the rest of the bands gear. The ebony Les Paul Adrian is playing looks a real beauty too!! Up the Irons and come back to Norway again real soo.
Guys thanks for this new setlist , it's the best, the new songs from the senjuntsu album. Caught some..in time, and Alex. ..the great, are great new songs ever played and the guys loved it. God bless You , thanks😊
love dave, always have. great to see the "simplicity" of his rig. even though for a bedroom guitar player its very complex, i can still see its far less than most people use nowadays.
Iron maiden were the only ones using tubes.... Dave's sound was a marshal preamp and the marshal processor was truly amazing. Now more and more digital equipment is replacing the lamp, alas, time does not stand still. Following metallica, maidens switched to digital
Awesome 🙏 What a battle of material, I wish we had had info like this back in 1984, I bought my first Marshall because I always loved the Maiden sound...
The gear of all members of the band is specified in the concert LP's "Beast Over Hammersmith" (1982) and "Life After Death" (1985). At that time, Dave used the following: [Dunlop] CryBaby Wah-Wah, MXR 10-Band Graphic EQ (in 1982 he used a Boss GE-10 Graphic Equalizer), MXR Micro Amp, MXR Distortion +, MXR Phase 90, [DOD FX75 Stereo] Flanger, [Carlsbro] A.D.T. Chorus, TC Electronic 2290 Digital Delay (rack), Marshall amps, and DiMarzio humbuckers: SuperDistortion (bridge) and PAF Pro (neck) plus Fender single-coil (middle).
I would not say that - subjective - they are an incredible mix together. Going back to the Flight Of Icarus, those two together on that solo section are beyond fantastic....the way those two solos melt together and the 2 styles are gorgeous.
At 0:58 you can also spot a glips of Adrian's rig, in the low left corner. On top of the effects rack, covered by what seems a metallic sheet, there's clearly a marshall head, you can see the red switch and the golden faceplate with round konbs. But maybe that's just a spare and also Adrian switched to digital. There are also pictures of Janick's tech corner with two racks, the old analog one and one loaded with two kempers. Can't wait for an official rig rundown:)
I was speculating a roasted maple neck, but then i saw this video in conjunction with the master builders instagram post. What an instrument, glad to see Davey trying stainless frets too. Hope his retail signature guitar gets qn update too!
If I was a king or a president I would make it mandatory for guitar brands to use stainless steel frets on every guitar, much like an FDA type of regulation. I love this shit, gear rundown for life. Cheers from Morocco

an axfx is 15 pounds and takes up 3 rack spaces. a jmp-1 takes up 1 rack space and is under 10 pounds.
Awesome! Iron Maiden forever! ❤
I never thought I'd see an fx-iii in an Iron Maiden rig! That's very interesting indeed, shows how good they are!
They're amazing, I've been a Fractal guy for the past four or five years and they're the dogs danglies in the tones and options they give me
It's a welcome suprise! I know Adrian Smith had used a Kemper for the Smith/Kotzen stuff, maybe he swayed Davey into trying some new gear.
Dave is one of my guitar heros, cool to see this.
I spotted the custom shop headstock when I was in Krakow! Lovely to see this gentleman shouting out one by one all the luthiers and technicians, class act
I’m surprised it’s taken Maiden so long to go Fractal. They always seemed like an obvious band to utilise it. Davey’s a legend!
People tend to stick to what they know and what has worked for them
Maiden always seemed like a band that had the attitude of "if it's not broke, don't fix it". Up until this tour, they used the same old beat up monitors, cabs, guitars, etc. But, it's kinda cool seeing that they are modernizing their rigs and gear a bit.
Yeah especially with how they tour it probably saves a ton on space and touring in general
@@onetakehoovie5955Well since all the stuff always already racked nothing changed because they still use cabs.
They had a period in the 80's where they had massive fridges of rack stuff and effects and wanky nonsense, and after that they went back to 100 watt amps and some pedals for a very long time, because it's just what they needed.

Adrian is a better songwriter though and his solos are more thought out.
