This guy could really give a sh*t if he wanted. Yet he invites us to his home, and makes one of the most awesome music videos I have ever seen. He can afford the luxury to show that even he can miss some notes on the guitar. So special, so intimate, so humble - this guy is really a LEGEND. I have listened to Iron Maiden for 35 years, seen them on stage 7 times. Today, after so many years I met Adrian Smith in person. It was truly unique.
Far too many long Prog tracks over the last few years, love the early stuff. I’d rather listen to a track wanting more rather listening to a track and getting bored as it’s gone on to long.
The best part was hearing his reactions to the little things while playing (missing a beat, key change, etc). Such an intimate experience for such classic ❤️
As a 13 year old boy listening to Maidens albums from that period, I would never ever thought that I actually would be able to interact with a member of that band this way 35 years later. This is so personal. When you have been to so many concerts, standing at the rail cheering your forever hero machine-running band doing it's thing, this is next level. Thank you Adrian for what you have given us over all these years, and thank you for sharing this.
I was born in '66 and over the years, saw you guys 33 times thanks to those mega southern California dates you used to do in the 80's. I'm old and disabled now, got the same thing Mick Mars suffers from but also, bad arthritis in my hands that killed any attempts at playing solos i used to enjoy. Watching this video made me laugh and appreciate that the time thats passed for all of us never took away our sense of humour. I just want to tell you how bloody refreshing it is to watch you play a song the way most of the rest of us play, imperfect, unedited, guitar, amp and bedroom sound gear and with the levity that all of us hoped our guitar heros had but never could be quite sure. The last show I saw was in Florida about 10 years ago and had handicap seats but was faced at the arena with a tower of stairs outside and an unbelievable lightning storm that blew in along with a new ticketing system that caused all of us to be sat outside until literally curtain time. Luckily for me, about 5 guys saw me staring at those pyramid of giza like steps and hoisted me up and carried me to the top and put their raincoats together to keep me and my son from getting soaked to the bone. It could've been a totally shit evening but the amazing comradarie of maiden fans allowed me to have a great time. I'll never be able to see maiden again because of being too disabled to get to an arena anymore, but this video was almost how I'd guess sitting in a backstage practice room with Adrian would be like and that is just about as much as I could ask for. Thank you Adrian. You are indeed one of the great ones for me because of your incredible humility. Plus, being a fisherman doesn't hurt either. 😎 Thank you mate.
I'm sorry to hear about your health problems blood brother. Sometimes life deals us some bad cards, but it's always good to have the music (especially heavy metal for me) to turn to when we are down. I'm hoping your condition will get better; medicine is advancing in leaps and bounds every year, and I hope a solution will be found for your health issues. I will respectfully disagree with you in one thing; I don't think you're old enough to call yourself old; I'm sure there is a lot more you can give to the world and your loved ones. The story about your last Maiden show is heartwarming, and truly shows the sense of brotherhood I believe every Maiden fan feels. Here's to hoping that you will see other Maiden shows with your son and thousands of blood brothers. Love and respect.
as one of the "quieter" members of Maiden ( not much media articles//interviews over the years ) I am so glad to finally get to know and appreciate Adrian at this level. Watching Smith/Kotzen including their interviews, and then this IS So cool ! Thanks for the upload and to Adrian for taking the time.
I hate to say this because I am a Maiden fan since 1985, but yeah, the last time I saw Maiden live was the AMOLAD tour where they played the album in its entirety, and then when they played some of the classics near the end, I stayed for Two Minutes and Fear of the Dark, and then my girlfriend and I bailed to beat the traffic. As much as I love those songs, I wish they would change them up. When they brought out Flight of Icarus after at least 20 years, I was very, very happy. That was the second Maiden song I learned on guitar, after Losfer Words (another song they need to bring out of the mothballs)
I remember in '82, I put that song at full volume and when it stopped I heard my father (may he rest in peace) yelling : "it's good when it stops !" :)
I think the Like A Hurricane line was stolen by the Scorpions. Klaus even sings it that way before the solo of Rock You Like A Hurricane. It was purloined, that is my belief.

Whole hardrock/metal Poland was in the sky. I'll never forget those moments. You are a very cheerful guy. Thanks Adrian, many thanks for it.

@@lesterunwin Personally Lester, I regard Alexander the Great as Maiden's best work. In the past 5 years, I've studied a slew of history and the current book I'm reading is "The Might of the West" by Lawrence R. Brown, and in it, you read briefly about Persia (or Iran or Aryans) getting easily defeated 334-333 BC. Persia was weak even though they had conquered pretty much all of the Levant or Palestine/Mesopotamia/Egypt in the 100s of years before. They were ripe for getting rolled over. It's telling how Jesus spoke Aramaic, yet all the first "Christians" and written text were in Greek. The first "Christians" were Hellenic Jews. Alexander's time was well before all that though.

IMO, Maiden have never been the Monster ego types ,except for maybe Bruce back in the old days? They always kept it pretty street level never really doing it for the fame.
@@GaryRinaldi They all tell some stories about their egos that they had at some point. There are some funny stories from Nicko yelling at people and so on. But still, they are ridiculously down to earth in my mind...

Fantastic too see Adrian playing with Clive again. Clive is such a maiden legend 🙌 Adrian has such subtle playing style it makes the maiden sound complete. Up the Irons 🤟🤟
At the end of the day if you tie all the threads together, Adrian Smith is one of THE most influential players out there and is responsible - along with the rest of the Maiden family- for some of the most powerful, original, thematic hard hitting and even story metal-emotional albums ever created. Watching this as a life-long fan is such good medicine. Smile and tears of joy! UTI!
Exactly. I have seen Maiden several times. But I only will attend another show only with an updated setlist. Twilight zone, Genghis Khan, 22.Acaccia Avenue, To Tame a Land, Flight of Icarus, The Duellists, Somewhere In Time, SEA of Madness, The Lonelines of the Long Distance Runner, Deja-vu, Alexander the Great, Only the Good Die Young, Infinite Dreams, No Prayer For the Dying, Public Enemy Numer One... Damn, they should do it those fans that don't want to hear Run To the Hills and Two Minutes To Midnight for 1001 time!! :-)
I’m hoping for songs like when the wild wind blows, rime of the ancient mariner, brave new word, prowler, can I play with madness, and journeyman to be played
@@martinblackwhite I always say that there are so many (SO MANY!) songs that Iron Maiden should play in concert, that they should do some kind of tour dedicated only to those forgotten gems that have been rarely, or never, played live on stage! In my opinion, and I'm fan of this band since 84, there are not fillers or mediocre songs on the albums that Maiden made in the 80's, NOT a single one! And this fact could allow the band to choose from a huge number of great songs. And, yet, songs like The Duellists, Flash of the Blade, Alexander The Great, Sun and Steel, Prodigal Son, have never (🤬) been played live... And some others, like To Tame a Land, Caught Somewhere in Time, Genghis Khan, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, have been played very very seldom in all the long career of this band. I really do not understand why! Greetings from Italy!
This was awesome!!!! Loved the story how they come up with the song, those influences of Cozy Powell, Gary Moore. R.I.P Clive Burr, one of the best drummers ever
Me too. If they imagined the impact this has on fans, they would tell more and more. Im a huge fan from Clive Burr... I enjoyed a lot learning and hearing it.
This is brilliant. Love that guy. My biggest guitar influence. I like how he makes a few mistakes but just pisses himself laughing. Very endearing. Great song too.
Adrian you and Dave are the masters of metal. I watched my oldest brother growing up idolize you two. For hours he would play Maiden and jam on his guitar like as if he was in the band. He had just passed away this year at the age of 54. He loved Maiden and the way you guys would shred. Iron Maiden forever💪
He looks like he's in better shape too.. :) Love Adrian.. my all time biggest influence.. He's my Gary Moore. Even though I love Gary, but I wouldn't have really listened to him till I heard Adrian talk about him in the past.
"it is like one of those old movies, standing in runaway train, trying not to fall of." Great stuff for us, Mr Smith. We loved. It is also a tribute to the GREAT Clive Burr, RIP. Thank you!
Great to see Adrian playing like this, flaws & all, he's always been my favourite guitarist in Maiden I was gutted when he left the band in the late 80's, love his lead tone & the way he constructs his solo's, I had hours of fun playing air guitar to his solo on 22 Acacia Avenue from the Live After Death album which is one of my favourite's from him, especially that version, & his lead break in Prodigal Son is so friggin good !!! Cheers...
it was live after death on vhs in 86 that my dad realized he liked maiden..at first he didn't want me listening to devil music and he caught me watching it and he said i like them and he said he was wrong about them because he thought they was also a bunch of tattooed freaks. i think i got my hate tattoos from him.
Flaws? This man plays really well. There is this popular UA-cam show in Russian where a dude picks apart the technical playing skills of many famous guitarists, pointing out flaws and showing how it can be played better. Long story short, skilful famous guitarists are few and far between. Adrian's playing here is mercifully free from the most typical mistakes that dude points out every time (at least as far as I can see and hear).
He is my Idle. I love this man. I play bass but Adrian is by far the best guitar player ever. Not to fast, not to slow. Not too bluesy, not too much soul. The man has Everything!!!!! Heavy when you need it, soft too..... He's the best.
Would be cool to have Dave & Adrian together some time, talking about their days growing up together, and evolving into the greatest guitar duo of all time. Then we could have Dave Murray talk a bit about "Still Life"
Never understood the hate for Gangland. Could have seen Dianno sing this one. It's in the spirit of the first two albums (Bruce is incredible on this one though)
I grew up in a very religious family. My parents not so much, but all my relatives and the town I grew up in had a church on every corner. One of my D&D buddies was a drummer for the high school band and he got this album. I was immediately hooked. I made a copy on cassette and had to disguise it in a Linda Ronstadt cassette case! My mom actually thought I was a huge fan of her and she actually bought me one of her albums for my birthday. "oh he loves Linda Ronstadt. I see him listening to that in his Walkman all the time" lol it was Iron Maiden The Number of the Beast I was actually listening to. I had a Black Sabbath cassette in a John Denver case.
Can you imagine being so disciplined that you play that beat throughout the song? Rest in Peace Clive Burr. This is so FANTASTIC,,, and a very underrated Maiden song,
What a guy, Adrian just seems so humble and down to earth, a classy dude and one of my favorite guitarists of one of my top 3 bands. Been a fan since 85' when I was in the 8th grade. The first album I heard of theirs was Piece Of Mind and it changed my life. I soon went out and bought Number of the Beast and then just started going from there. I've always loved Gangland and Number Of The Beast is my favorite Maiden album. The eighties was a great time to grow up and I listened all of those albums and literally wore them out on cassette and vinyl! From Iron Maiden through Seventh Son Of a Seventh Son, those were great times and they are still going strong as Book Of Souls proves that. A fantastic and legendary band! Up the Irons indeed!

he used to have, but he´s very chilled and down to earth dude now by my opinion
IMO, Maiden have never been the Monster ego types ,except for maybe Bruce back in the old days? They always kept it pretty street level never really doing it for the fame.
@@GaryRinaldi They all tell some stories about their egos that they had at some point. There are some funny stories from Nicko yelling at people and so on. But still, they are ridiculously down to earth in my mind...
I always thought Gangland was a criminally underrated song they should've played more
Definitely
But bruce didn’t like it and they removed it from new LP which was replaced by total eclipse I want them to contain nine songs but not removing it
H!!! I've been listening to these guys for decades, since I was 13. I feel like I grew up with them, like they're big brothers or uncles. Jammed along with them on guitar for years and now I get to jam with Adrian. Up the IRONS!!
Cmon play that type of songs that havent been played in a long time in the next tour. For example I would love you play Paschendale again
Alexander the great!!! Or Stranger in a strange land
And Judas Be My Guide, Sun and Steel, Flash of the Blade, The Duelists, The Prophecy, Deja Vu, Fates Warning, Run Silent Run Deep, The Nomad, Montsegur, Isle of Avalon, and i think you get my point.
Okay hear me out...thin line between love and hate? Or I'd love to hear them do some b sides live too
Back in the village
New Songs : Ghost of the Navigator, Wildest Dreams, El Dorado, The Talisman, Brighter than a Thousand Suns, The Red and the Black
Old Songs : Killers, Remember Tomorrow, Total Eclipse, Trooper (as usual), The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Caught somewhere in Time, Alexander the Great, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Would love if they DON'T PLAY : Iron Maiden, Number of the Beast, Fear of the Dark, Run to the Hills, Hallowed be thy Name
This was so much fun to watch. Also a great song to remind us how great a drummer Clive was.
More stuff from Adrian, and the rest of the guys please, that was a blast!
I simply love this guy. So talented. One of the greatest guitarist and most underestimated probably.
Agreed!
Such a down to earth guy, no rockstar bs with shades on trying to look cool just hangin and jammin with the boys...
Fantastic too see Adrian playing with Clive again. Clive is such a maiden legend 🙌 Adrian has such subtle playing style it makes the maiden sound complete. Up the Irons 🤟🤟
This is probably the only possible "live" version of "Gangland" you will ever get from Iron Maiden.
OMG, I love this guy. He's so cool. Thanks a lot for this.
UTI!
Uti? You have an urinary tract infection? Why would you want to announce that?
@@karajalbert6074 UTI = "Up.The. Irons." in Maiden speak. :-)
That's a great opportunity to modify the setlist of the shows!
@@martinblackwhite you know flight of Icarus is in the Setlist?
@@martinblackwhite Hell ya!..they need to change it up with songs they never play live..
Wow happy birthday mate ! You have been one of my favorites since 1982 !!
Clive must have been the most underrated drummer ever. God bless his soul🙏
Adrian is my favourite ever guitarist. Up the Irons!
Agreed! Adrian is the best
Same here.
he's my guitar my hero!!
You are the guiding light for so many of us. Please keep going...
Clive was such an amazing drummer 🙂
Very creative drumer. A lot diferent ways to play.
What a humble man but monster guitar player. This was the real somewhere back in time. Thank you Adrian! The legend lives on.
This is brilliant. Love that guy. My biggest guitar influence. I like how he makes a few mistakes but just pisses himself laughing. Very endearing. Great song too.
So cool to see one of my "heroes" just being a guy. Thanks Adrian!
Adrian, one of my all time favorites. Learning to play Stranger in a strange land solo taught me so much.
Adrian looks like he hasn't aged since 2008.
I refuse to believe this man is 63.
hes looking better actualy
He's always looked great, IMO. Still rockin' it at 63.
He looks like he's in better shape too.. :) Love Adrian.. my all time biggest influence.. He's my Gary Moore. Even though I love Gary, but I wouldn't have really listened to him till I heard Adrian talk about him in the past.
Botox
Love Adrian Smith's playing..
This is amazing, keep this content up. Up the Irons
Thank you Adrian. For giving us the Best Music ever. Albuquerque New Mexico
Adrian looks like he is having a blast - fantastic video - more like this please (esp with the tracks that don't get played live very often!)
Thank you🙏
Fala Flausino blz. Marcando presença aqui no video do Mister Adrian Smith. Sou inscrito em seu canal tbm hehe
Mestre Flausino, já estou na expectativa do seu próximo vídeo 🤘
Flausino, lhe venero🤘🏼
salve 🤟
He is my Idle. I love this man. I play bass but Adrian is by far the best guitar player ever. Not to fast, not to slow. Not too bluesy, not too much soul. The man has Everything!!!!! Heavy when you need it, soft too..... He's the best.
Groupie😀
I'm also a bass player and agree 💯%!
WE NEED MORE LIKE THIS ONE!!!
🇧🇷 🏴
And More covers! :)
Would be cool to have Dave & Adrian together some time, talking about their days growing up together, and evolving into the greatest guitar duo of all time. Then we could have Dave Murray talk a bit about "Still Life"
Still Life.....one of Dave Murray's finest moments.
Yes.......Still Life....🤟
All that talent and all that Money and he is still so DTE.He deserves all the success he has.....
That guitar is absolutely fucking iconic in metal.
Invaders, Prisoner, Gangland and total eclipse are way underrated
Well said!!!🎸🇬🇧🤘
I think Invaders is one of their best songs : so fast, so groovy and simple. Amazing.
Why underrated? are included in masterpiece album. For us, early fans, aren't underrated
The prisoner performance on Maiden England is divine.
Total Eclipse was an add well after the original album came out
Best. Band. Ever. I first saw them in 1982.
What a treasure Adrian is. His playing has been such a huge influence on me. A brilliant musician
I remember seeing URCHIN at the Brecknock Adrian always brilliant ,then and now
Thanks Adrian, I'm time traveling to my teen years... What wonderful memories!
One of my favorite Maiden songs. I'm glad this made it on the album and not Total Eclipse.
Never understood the hate for Gangland. Could have seen Dianno sing this one. It's in the spirit of the first two albums (Bruce is incredible on this one though)
This needs to be a series.
Him and dave the reason why many of us picked up the guitar
Most underrated guitarist of the second wave of british heavy metal
no man, he's not underrated...
he has what he desserves
what? he was never underestimated
😅😅😅Great story mate 👍🤘
Best!
thats great. hilarious.
Funny how people really thought it's devil music and many still think like that. They thought that about old rock and roll.
She was pretty good looking back in the day, and a great voice you could do worse! haha.
Awesome video Adrian, great song! More videos like this please!
Can you imagine being so disciplined that you play that beat throughout the song? Rest in Peace Clive Burr. This is so FANTASTIC,,, and a very underrated Maiden song,
This was a LOT of fun! Felt like I was just hanging out with one of my buddies I’ve known....for 30 years!
Yes please. More of this kind of stuff from Adrian, Janick, Dave, 'Arry and Nicko. Brilliant. Talking of which when can we have listen with Nicko part 12 onwards?
