- WE TAKE OUR WINNEBAGO REVEL SPRINTER 4X4 CAMPER VAN OUT ONTO THE DEEP SAND TO CAMP ON CAPE LOOKOUT NATIONAL SEASHORE
Not every trip is an adventure… Not every trip in your van requires tons of research and worry. But this one… this one, did! After weeks of prepping us and our Winnebago Revel van for a trip out on a remote island to disperse camp by the ocean we were finally ready… at least we hoped we were.
SO COME ALONG WITH US AS WE HOP ON THE FERRY AND DRIVE IN THE SAND FOR THE VERY 1ST TIME… EVER. SPOILER ALERT… IF YOU HAVEN’T DONE THIS YOU NEED TO. If you’re used to going to the beach and just trying to find a little patch of sand that doesn’t have someone already on it then you’ll be surprised to see that we parked our van in the sand next to the dunes and there was literally nobody within sight for miles… miles… not just near us… we literally could not see another person. And we stayed there enjoying that peaceful view for days and only left that spot to drive into even deeper beach sand to take in the Cape Lookout Light Station.
It was quite simply… OUR BEST TRIP TO THE BEACH… EVER!
Were we right to worry about taking our Revel out onto the beach? Yes. It was… challenging. It was… technical. There were things you had to do that if you didn’t do those things you WERE GOING TO GET STUCK… period! But was it worth it? We think so, but you be the judge. We’ll let you ride beside us, sit beside us and take in the experience with very, very little talking… so you can form your own opinion.

Hi Lynn and Owen! As usual your newest video did not disappoint! It was clear that your visit out at the beach was just exactly what y’all needed to get back out traveling again. I have to admit that it made me realize that every place we go becomes a part of who we are and what we remember. We live, as you may recall, only a 20 or 30 minute ride away from some beautiful beaches in NW FL. But I’ve been there so many times to camp, spend the day or just relax for a quick picnic that those memories are always with me. Each trip adds to my memories, but the old ones are there for me on a moment’s notice! You guys have a full memory bank of great trips and life adventures! What lucky pups we are to have the privilege of travels to recall, plot and plan for new journeys. Maggie would agree, don’t you think?

Airing down is key for the soft sand, and you obviously knew that! I’m sure that Mercedes torque doesn’t hurt either! Beautiful scenery and there’s nothing like an almost deserted beach!
Time to wash out the undercarriage! There’s sand in places you never knew you had! A little Fluid Film sprayed on any traces of rust is a good follow up to beach adventures!

I knew it would have no problem. As long as you air down it would be fine. I’d carry traction boards just in case. My only suggestion is to get under there and wash the chassis so the salt does not eat it. Other then that looks like a great time. That’s why my camper will have the Quigley 4wd for my E450. 👍🏼

Me already being nervous I think I would have to have 4x4. But you can also rent side by sides and go over for the day, not the same a camping but it would be a good experience.
When you finally decided to do another trip. You definitely decided to go big! Boondocking on a barrier island? Totally impressed! Maggie loved every minute of it! I'm sure it was hard to leave your new home. A dream destination every morning! You two are truly blessed!

We love the Cape Lookout area. Beautiful sunsets. I noticed a line in the water but it looked like chicken in the skillet. No luck huh?
Owen only caught one small fish, he should have inquired at the store at the fairy to see what the fish we bitting. He still had fun though.

Love the video! We took our Revel to Cape Lookout National Seashore this past summer. It was beautiful and driving on it was fun (according to my husband because I wasn’t about to try lol). The water was a lot calmer for you than it was for us. But, you can’t beat sleeping in your Revel on the beach. (Just don’t go near a holiday weekend! It got crazy busy closer to the holiday.)

As in better sound? We were out in the wind so no matter how we talked into the camera it came out noisy so we had to filter a lot of hue frequencies out.

It’s so good to be back. We aired down to 18-20. It worked well.
That’s just crazy that you had the beach to yourself most the time! How exciting! Was there a reason you used the solo stove instead of having a fire on the beach? Nice to hear how the Revel did in the sand. It looked pretty soft at times!
The only reason we used the solo stove was it’s lights really quickly and we felt it would leave less of a mess on the beach. Thanks for watching.

Your photography is absolutely fantastic and goes far beyond words in telling your story! Your lives are being carved in stone. CARVE THEM DEEP!
We went there 3 weeks ago and spent half a day with one of the ohv rentals. This is an amazing place and I can't wait to go back. Our van is only 2 wheel drive so we could not take it over to camp.
The ohv’s seem like a great way to explore the island.
My wife and I love your videos. We watch them as she does her elliptical and I my rowing machine. Then we have a lovely dinner at home, make a fire in the horno out on our patio here in New Mexico and thank gosh that we found your videos BEFORE we made the mistake of buying a Revel & traveling. Just like watching a cattle branding on video seems nice because your protected from the realities of "sitting on an ocean beach". We remember our youthful days in CA with gnats swarming the kelp, that dank salty air and sand, sand everywhere. Your videos are wonderful but I am sure not for the reason you are posting them. Keep them up as they are a constant reminder that we did the correct thing for us and stayed in our home. P.S. We have friends in NC and a son who American Airlines stationed in Charlotte and we found your reality to be bugs, humidity and mucky streams/ponds compared to living in the West. One man's freedom is another man's terror!
Traveling in a van is not for everyone for sure, different strokes for different folks. Thank goodness we’re not all the same.

Renting a revel and going to cape lookout last year was the most expensive trip I’ve ever taken, my new van should be arriving in 3 months :)

No. It's front drive and all the weight is in the back. Especially if you have all season tires on it.

Planned to air down to 20psi but dropped to 18psi.
