Always good when all parties are able to work on the different systems in the RV. You never know... one of you could get ill on the trip and the other has to take over.
I noticed that when you hurt your back, Lynn was cooking, which she doesn't usually do. And I see Owen always driving. And this is the first time I've seen Lynn dumping the cassette toilet.
I think Lynn is one very smart woman... has her husband do all the work! Good on you Lynn!
Now Maggie is the smartest of the bunch... she just lays around and smiles as her humans do all the work! 😂
    Be seeing you!

I only wish Owen did all the work… we do both have our chores, I usually do the inside stuff while Owen does the outside and we both cook, which I do most of the preparation and he does the in front of the camera stuff. I will say the outside stuff is more complicated than the inside stuff, but they both have to be done. I do agree that Maggie is the smartest in the family.

Be careful what you do with that cap. At the dump station in Babcock SP (WV) I unscrewed and set it aside before I used both hands to lift the cassette, only to see it roll like a miraculous golf shot right into the hole. I briefly thought about putting my arm in there but quickly reconsidered. So we used a glove and bungee cord to seal the spout for the rest of that trip.
You'd better believe that we now have a spare cap in the Aktiv. And I'm looking to use magnets to firmly secure the cap to the "suitcase" while dumping.

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle

Great video! We used to have a cassette toilet in our pop up A-frame camper. I totally get how to use it, etc. . my husband did not understand it and we had a woopsie one night, I don't know how it happened but the hole never opened and peed over the top of that thing and it ended up all yellow in the compartment where it's stored. I was so mad at him the next morning when I used a whole roll of paper towels to clean it up. What a mess. Glad to hear you all haven't had any issues and I love your new rig!

Then he passed away and I still wanted to travel. So I sold the motorhome and bought a van and how I have wished I had learned to do all that outside stuff! Disposable gloves, learn how to take them off so you do not touch the outside. Raise the toilet seat. The cap you unscrewed is contaminated. Put the cap on the floor, not where someone is going to put their hand. Dumping in a toilet will splash the sewer fluid just can't be helped. If you need to use a public restroom you need to clean it when you are done.

Five gallons of water/waste weight is too much for me to handle on a regular basis. I could not physically hold it up and dump it into a toilet as she did. Also I know it would dirty the toilet and I would need to clean that toilet afterwards. Too much work and as to dumping it every two or three days, that is another deal breaker for me. I can hook up my sewer hose and pull the lever to dump my black tank and then my gray, so much easier and only do it every 7/8 days. I wear gloves, rinse things off and put it all away.
😢😢You still have to go to a dump station to dump your gray anyway so it makes no sense to have to do two different types of dumping. Plus I am not embarrassed at the dump station as I would be at a public toilet.
Conclusion: No cassette toilet for me.

Great demonstration of how you take care of the business. We can all adjust and do as we like… the glory of being free… Some mention gloves… for me that depends how messy you think it might be. Personally this looks easier and much cleaner than dealing with a black tank where you know you have to handle a contaminated hose and the area your dumping into is probably all contaminated including the cap on the dump site etc.
I witnessed a very clean and dry cassette being removed. The cap looked clean as well. Yes they put it on a rail used by people that need to gray it, but again, it looked dry. After the dump, everything still looked clean and dry…
What hit me was the test before dump! Great tip! Make sure the toilet your going to use actually works! What a mess it f you started and it was….

Never is the wrong word. We try not to. Odor mainly. And the poop is not in there long enough to dissolve so there's more of a chance of splashing when emptying and that's never cool. 😂. If we're not close to a campground toilet we do whatever needs to be done in it and never think twice about it. But also we're always trying to maximize the days between emptying too.
