    Fiberglass should be banned. My grandmother had fiberglass bedroom curtains hanging over our beds and my sister and had developed asthma really bad as kids. To this day my sister and I still battle with respiratory issues because of fiberglass in the curtains.

    never removed my cover, always kept a mattress pad on top and we were lucky that we saw a story and saw the leaking under the bed before it got to the rest of our house. the covers do not hold up over time, do not buy a mattress with fiberglass

      I just noticed the leaking under my bed, any advice on how to go about cleaning it up?

    • @mishamoon
      @mishamoon Рік тому +3

      @@ripmilo yes! first, mentally prepare that this will probably take you a few hours if not the whole day. get protection: gloves, disposable overalls, eye protection, and masks (N95 should be good) and then get two mattress bags so you can bag it up from top and bottom. turn off the A/C and all fans and bag up the mattress. i also taped it where the covers met just to make sure nothing gets out. (hopefully you have help! my partner and i did it together)
      if you store stuff under the bed, you can keep plastic boxes and things that can be cleaned with disposable wipes but if you have anything fabric, there’s no hope so dispose of it. wipe down your bed frame and vacuum the floor underneath! also don’t forget to clean your vacuum well after, and if you have any disposable filters once you’re done cleaning, toss those as well.
      your main goal is to try to contain the leak and make sure it doesn’t get on you or in the rest of your house! this stuff is impossible to clean once it spreads. it’s 20x worse than glitter lol. i’m so glad you caught it early! this may seem daunting but you got this!

    Yep has nothing to do with removing the cover actually... I literally just found out I have one of these fiber glass mattresses and I've never removed the cover for mine. I remove and wash the bed sheets that I have on it. I used the light and noticed all these tiny little shimmering fibers all over my freakin bed sheets and covers. I had been having breathing issues for over a year and it only went away after I stopped sleeping on that mattress. It's a real shame more people don't know about this. I'm really annoyed that I was exposed to this bs for a year and had no idea.

  • @nicoledemers98

    For anyone saying “just don’t remove the cover” it’s easy to say when it hasn’t happened to you. We assume that the items in our home, especially items that we’re sleeping on, are safe. When we see a zipper, we assume it’s safe to remove. In my case, the mattress label didn’t even mention fiberglass or say not to remove the cover. On top of that, a lot of the outer covers tend to be flimsy, so if you have cats or other animals that may scratch the outer cover, the fiberglass can escape that way as well. They also wear down over time, so if you don’t replace the mattress, the fiberglass will eventually escape. If you’re gonna buy a memory foam mattress, spend the extra money on a good fiberglass free brand. If you can’t afford it, skip the memory foam. Memory foam mattresses are tough to clean and maintain on top of often containing harmful chemicals, so I would suggest not buying one unless you can afford a trustworthy, top-notch brand.

    My dog puked. I removed the cover on my "Polyurethane Foam" mattress. At least that's what I thought it was. I spot cleaned the mattress with a towel and vinegar. It felt funny. Soft. I put a fan on it to dry it. Went outside. Drank a cup of coffee and noticed the itching. Googled it. Realized what had happened. Went upstairs. Slowly replaced the cover shaking like a leaf. Ran air scrubbers. Threw out the couch. But it's everywhere. It's in everything. I'm rebuilding after a fire. I've lost my whole life twice. I thought to myself. Why get renters insurance. There's no point. I even bought air purifiers. My chest hurts. My hands itch. My poor little chihuahua. I will now lose everything. Luckily I may be moving. But I've literally lost my whole life. I'm disabled and can't clean up this mess. I feel broken and defeated. How dare you sell me an expensive couch Dorel Home Furnishing. Full of fiberglass. I bought this for my Grandson to come visit and just happened to sleep on it. It didn't hurt my back so I slept on it a few more nights. I can't believe this. My whole life is gone now. I may fail out of college. Lose my car. Why is this legal?
