I realize Nectar fans probably won't like my conclusion, and there is no disrespect intended toward Nectar or those who like it! I tried to keep in mind that many people do love this mattress, but it just isn't for me. Rather than accept a free product as some reviewers do, I paid full price with the intent of giving my honest opinion, and hoped I would like it enough to keep. Alas, I will be carefully documenting the return because I've read comments that the return process could be problematic. I'll give you a full unbiased report on how that goes. Also, to clarify, I sleep on my side about 75% of the time, and my back about 25% of the time.

I had the Nectar mattress and as you I gave up on the mattress after about 9 months. Most of the things you encountered are what I experienced. Their return process worked for me but what I ended up doing was I donated the mattress to a non-profit organization and they provided me a letter of acceptance which I emailed to Nectar and in turn they refunded my money. I ended up going with their sister/parent company Dream Cloud Sleep mattress, it's a more expensive line product but I'm very pleased with it and have been using it now for a few years now. Thanks for your review.

I remember when you purchased and tested your Purple mattress and you said that it was a game changer for you. That really stuck with me. I've seen other reviews for the Purple mattress and most of them say the exact same thing. I'm glad you reviewed a memory mattress and was able to compare it to the Purple mattress because that gives a real comparison that is usuable.

Appreciate this, especially the observations regarding the ability to turn and move as I move a lot. The last mattress I bought was a super cheap, no frills, standard build extra firm mattress I needed to get by with for just a few months at a training program away from home. I liked it so much that I hauled it home and swapped it with my regular mattress. I've had it for something just shy of 20 years but it's finally begun to sag. It's actually hard to find that kind of cool, extra firm, old style build type of mattress now.

Over the years we've used a Tempur-Pedic memory foam mattress, a Simmons inner-spring mattress, a Sleep Number bed, tried a couple of different bed-in-a-box brands and finally settled on an Avocado mattress, which uses a combination of inner-spring and memory foam to hit that "Goldilocks zone" in comfort for us. It's spendy (almost as much as the Tempur-Pedic and about the same as the Sleep Number), but as side sleepers who tend to roll around a lot we still think this is the best mattress we've ever owned after 2 years of use.

  • @onlyone266
    @onlyone266 3 роки тому +2

I still have the original Tempurpedic mattress. It's around 17yo. Still good and since I have two Tempurpedic covers to alternate when washing It's still in its original form. They don't make the original anymore which is a shame. I think the mattress is still in good condition because it's only used for sleeping and not for watching TV, reading or relaxing. Once I'm out of bed I'm out of it for the day. Thanks for your honest review .

I've had my Nectar for about two years. Queen size. It came with two pillows only, would have loved the extra sheet and pillow case set. We also added the motorized frame with head and foot massage. I have never loved a bed more - in fact when sleeping other places and on higher end mattresses - I truly miss my Nectar sleep. I no longer have back or neck pain from sleeping. The motorized frame is wonderful for sleeping slightly elevated, sitting up to watch tv, or elevating my legs. Great and honest review, as always! It's true - it's not for everyone, but compared to the memory foam hybrid we used to have - this one is soft and contouring at the same time. I also start sleep on my side most of the time and end up on my back. The edge sleep "drop off" I don't find to be a noticeable issue for me. I've slept on crappy mattresses for years, and this investment for us was well worth it. With two people, the mattress holds up great. My other one felt like a balloon and often changed shape when getting in and out together - this one doesn't do that at all! And for me I love the pillows, they give my neck the support and contour I need. Hubby prefers a flatter pillow so I have claimed them both! I can say if we ever decide to go up to King, we will go with Nectar again for sure. My only one tidbit of a complaint is the L bar that holds the mattress from sliding down when elevated isn't adjustable, which I would prefer to not have a huge gap between headboard and mattress, as my pillows fall in on occasion - but that problem has been for every mattress I've ever had, so nothing new with that. I believe it is related to our sleigh bed frame that the motorized frame fits inside of. Just need to push mattress up every couple of months for us any way. ;)

If you want to do another mattress review I would suggest the Allswell. I too am someone who turns in my sleep and am mostly a side sleeper. I tried and returned several mattresses including the original purple mattress but I personally just don't do well on foam, I would have loved to try the new purple mattress but I just couldn't afford the price tag. I eventually chose to try the Allswell, this was before walmart bought the company and I have been enjoying it for about 2 years now.

Being a belly sleeper, I love Nectar. I wanted memory foam but most seem for back/side sleepers and my old Ikea mattress was giving me issues (wicked back pain). Within a few weeks of this mattress, it mostly went away. That firmness was key as without support, my lumbar wasn't supported and stretched.
YMMV as it comes down to what is right for you, but for a belly sleeper... I love it (and I feel that part was not tested but again, we're all different). The pillows are also pretty nice imo.

I am a belly sleeper myself and I don’t move around much in my sleep I don’t really tend to sleep on the edge either but in the middle. I think I’ll like this mattress & I can always add a foam pad on top to add extra support if needed. I really hope I like this mattress currently using a twin box spring with a foam pad on top. Upgrading to the Queen nectar. We shall see.

We started out with a Tempurpedic way back when they were "the latest and greatest"... had to have them replace twice due to sinking in middle, (we spoon). About 3 years ago we went with a 100% organic natural latex, best thing we ever did. All latex, no springs 3 layers: soft, medium, firm - queen split. I have mine set up different than Hubby and we still spoon and it's great! We are very happy with this mattress, made by a company in AZ been around for 30 years. Their pillows are excellent and the price was cheaper than Purple but more expensive than this one you reviewed. We already had a platform bed frame so we didn't need to get one. We hated the fact that memory foam does exactly what you said and in winter, turning over on your pillow was startling as it gets harder in colder conditions. Funny story, my hubby took his Tempurpedic pillow to a boy scout camp in winter in Colorado- temps were in the teens. As they packed up he tossed his pillow to my brother in law and it knocked the breath out of him, it was so hard and heavy. He couldn't believe Sam slept on it! His face was horrified at the thought. Memory foam actually caused more issues than it cures. Keep it in space at zero gravity, that where it belongs. Smiles and blessings...

    *I hate this mattress!*
I bought mine 6 months ago worst purchase I’ve made. I’m 250 pounds and sink way to far. No support at all and you want to flip during night it takes so much energy to climb out the hole and roll. Plus, I’m constantly finding the unsupported edge and feeling like I’m going to fall off. Also, it traps heat like a heat sink. I feel like I’m sleeping on a furnace. I can’t return it because it comes in a box shrink wrapped and folded in half. There’s no way anyone can get the bed back in the box..

I have a nectar premier and love it. Memory foam mattresses can be polarizing. If you’re the type of person who likes memory foam I would HIGHLY suggest it. If you don’t like memory foam I’d get something else. It’s definitely a different experience to a pillow top.

Memory foam sleeps too hot for me and while I like the initial feeling, they're so uncomfortable to me once you hit that base layer of foam that's always so firm. I sleep on a high resilience foam mattress and I love it. It's the most uncommon type of foam mattress out there, but it sleeps cooler and the support feels more akin to that of a innerspring mattress.

Great review, James. I recently bought a brand new mattress, and it was between a Tempur-Pedic, Purple, and Nectar. I fell in love with the Purple 3, and my wife really loved the Tempur-Pedic. There were three different Nectar mattresses in store to try. The most expensive one was about $2,000 for a King-sized, and it was fine. The Tempur-Pedic we looked at was $3800, and honestly the top of the line Nectar we had tried felt slightly less comfortable. For $1800 though, I figure it's a fine trade-off. This is anecdotal as could be, but the salesman in the store and I were chatting it up about different things, and she mentioned that the Nectar rep that comes by even admits to not buy the lowest end model. True or not, I can attest to the lower comfort quality. I tried resting on it, and it's simply nowhere near the quality of the other mattresses I tried. This is probably a personal bias, but I found the mattress at my house that I am replacing, which is a Sealy from Big Lots, felt more comfortable. Base Nectar mattress simply feels too cheap.

My husband and I are 65+. Pain in joints became an issue for both of us; including back issues. For us, with chronic pain, Memory Foam was the worst mattress to sleep on. Memory Foam pushes back against you; we both feel Memory Foam increased our chronic pain. We would never sleep on it again. Unfortunately, we found out the hard way; and, it cost us a fortune.

I have a memory foam, different brand, and even cheaper. I like it a lot. All you say about it is true as far as sinking, edge, etc. I love it anyway. Memory foam is the only mattress I've ever had that I feel comfortable on - no back pain even though I have a very bad back. Mattresses are very individual and I'm sure memory foam is not the best for everyone. I might like a Purple mattress but, unfortunately, I cannot afford one of those. A very firm mattress does hurt my back, my hips, my shoulders, etc. I need the soft/firm feel.

Try a "Pure Green" Sleep on Latex mattress. We got one almost a year ago and we're extremely satisfied. Latex is vastly superior in my opinion. It doesn't suck you in like foam and is much cooler. I can't stand memory foam it feels like I'm sleeping in sand. I'm a big guy so foam is like being trapped.

I have a memory foam mattress that's more firm at the start. it doesn't dent nearly as much as yours. Thus when I roll over it's not that big a deal with climbing the cliffs of doom. You'd think a more firm mattress would be uncomfortable, but after I got used to it after a few days (not weeks) then it was really nice. I sleep more soundly than I ever did on a pillow top spring mattress.

I don't think they make a full memory foam mattress. It's always some combination of layers with the bottom most(and biggest) layer being some type of harder foam.
Most likely because it's cheaper and also probably because if the entire mattress was made of the soft memory foam, you'd sink to the bottom. I'd imagine that wouldn't be very conformable or enjoyable.

I have been sleeping on my Purple 3 Hybrid mattress for 2.75 years now (LOVE MY PURPLE) and before that, a TempurPedic mattress for 10 years! I HATE memory foam because, yes, they do retain body heat, and after they start to wear out, the memory foam retains your body impression like a mold. You then find it almost impossible to roll out of bed because you get "stuck" in the memory impression.

I won't be getting a memory foam mattress - I bought a pillow, after being told how comfortable it was. It certainly was comfy, but the problem was the smell, which was the same as mildew. I had it checked thoroughly, but the pillow was clean, with no mildew on or in it. However, that smell caused a NASTY allergy attack. I have checked other memory foam products, and the mildew like smell is the same. I think it is the chemicals, and the process is called "outgassing."

There are newer forms of "memory foam" that are not hot, even in hot weather areas. Do your research. Also, as someone else mentioned, even if you have the old kind of "memory foam" mattress, placing a thick mattress cover under your sheet really helps. Buy one made of natural breathable materials. While I experimented with making my sleep more comfortable and cool, I used two mattress pads and a cotton blanket beneath my lower sheet.

Being a combination sleeper, at first, the mattress is great for when I sleep on my back but not great when I’m sleeping on my sides. After contacting Nectar, they sent me a mattress topper and I have no more complaint. At that time Nectar wasn’t really pushing advertising as hard as now but I made my decision based off consumer report website’s rating, which gave it decent rating for the price. I figured why not since they promised 365 days return.
