Metallica's EQ In A Pedal!

- I've been so excited to bring this video, it's been months in the making...
Nobody's ever tried to capture the classic B&B Aphex EQF-2 in pedal form before.
The guitar tone on Metallica's Master of Puppets was absolutely amazing and is balanced enough allow the other instruments to fill the spectrum.
I presented the idea to Tim at Master Effects Pedals and he managed to make it work somehow.
The way the PMEQ manages to capture the tone of Master of Puppets is unlike anything I've tried before.
For more info please check out www.mastereffe...
I hope you enjoy the video, I can't believe how cool this is.

The way you replicate every tone is impressive! This sounds incredible
Pedal sounds really good. This takes me back to the 80s when we were all playing in the wharehouse district. There were probably 10-15 different bands , we would all visit each other's wharehouse. The tone I remember was pretty close to this. Lots of scooped mesa's and mid range searing Marshalls. Master Of Puppets was just released. That album really was a game changer.
What a time it was.
Masters is what got me into metal I was in 7th grade in Colorado at that time
in Vernon?
what band did you play for?
💯💯💯
When I first heard MOP album in 1986…even Metallica didn’t duplicate that sound again.
It’s that haunting.
Thats because they’re stubborn and choose not too since they don’t want to revert back to their speed thrash style
@@chipchiperson679 yeah. they eventually got more and more commercial.
Well st. Anger was not commercial @@luv4oz
Because it was a cluttered tone that took away from the kick and bass. And in today's standards, it's a shit tone.
@@chipchiperson679 Absolutely, it's a disgrace
Wow that’s probably as close as anyone will ever get to replicating the tone of that album, which is just crazy how hard it is to get the same tone of those classic thrash albums of the 80’s-early 90’s.
Great job bud, your one of the very few guitarists I enjoy watching, you just jam it out there, I’m pretty sure you don’t take 20 takes when you play something. Keep it goin’!
StateOfMercury has gotten closer
@@luminator982 I think thebpwrosn meant non digital wise also it's better to try and get a time non digitall imo because then it would get closer considering they literally used actual amps no vsts or digital amplifiers or whatever
I bought the Master effects pedal a while ago and was getting some results with my 25 year old Flextone head, but I missed that you had it in the effects loop. I watched it again and moved it to the effects loop which made a big improvement. Then I finally got used Mark V 25 today. With your settings it is the first time I have really felt like I sounded like Metallica. Thanks!!!
I can’t stop playing.
Honestly im out of words on how good you are at replicating such an iconic tone, props to you brother!
FUck ya this is the best i have ever seen thats for sure
AHHHHH this is amazing. It actually sounds like I'm listening to James's isolated guitar tracks right off the album.
Holy fucking shit dude! That sounds dead on! Wow nice work man. Shit.. that's impressive. You realize that not many people can do what you've accomplished. Disposable Heroes to boot! Bravo. 🤘
This pedal is amazing. It’s truly a secret weapon for those that know.
Holy they sound so accurate! Precision of an engineer!
Received mine yesterday ! No quite able yet to get "THE" tone (using a PRS-MT15 amp) but man, this is EQ is shaping my metal tone like a charm. Great video btw. You are the one that sell me that ;)
Just ordered one from their Canadian shop.. thanks again LambChopper. You have helped me create the tones of my dreams over the years. The primary part of my rig being the DSL 20. The most awesome, underrated low wattage amp on the market!
I also have an Angel of Death coming tomorrow. It’s been a great weekend!!!
Number #49 on the wait list! Will be a pleasant surprise whenever it comes! Lol
Your dedication to recreate (not simulate) is mindboggling, approaching the task by actually recreating tone using (building) "analog" equipment in favor of simulating digitally, is like the difference between restoring a 67 Camaro or buying a kit car and assembling it. Neither option is in any way wrong or easier, it's just not the same thing.
That's why I like this dude too. I just started playing and already have a distaste for all the laptop simulations. I was looking for an analog way to get the Black album tone when I found this. I'm gonna sell some of my comics to get this!!
I really love how you keep pushing to capture that perfect tone for Metallica LC, this was frickin' AWESOME!!!! This has to be one of the closest to the real Metallica tones that I've heard you do so far. Not only does the tone hit the nail on the head, but your guitar playing is also spot on as always brother!!!🤘🤘
So well-played and intoned. Really enjoyable. Blasting Metallica at 1030 PM now instead of getting ready for work tomorrow.
The first one that has got the exactly tone of MOP on the whole net without using digital sound !! Amazing !
I've always wanted to know how to get the guitar tone of "Fight Fire With Fire" from Ride the Lightning. The rhythm riffs in that song sound like the guitar is literally *roaring* . It's so intense.
I did Ride the Lightning a few months back, it wasn’t too difficult with the Marshall DSL
Helllooo👋 sir . I was just thinking that I hadn’t heard from you for a little while and wanted to just check in and ask if your ok . Hope your just busy or having a break and everything is fine and you and your family are all well . Best regards from the uk .
I’m good mate thanks, just taking some time off.
@@LambChopper678 thanks for replying . Glad everything is ok .
Hey mate, just wanted to say I love your vids and really appreciate how much depth you go into when dialling in a specific tone. It is incredible to hear how accurately you are able to replicate classic metal albums. Keep up the awesome work!!!
Awesome sound man....freakin nailed it!.
Love the channel brother. I can't believe how good that pedal is man.
Lamb, your consistent awesomeness is unrivaled. I got a Mark V 25 back in November 2021 and I've been loving it. Through the Two Notes Captor X, I've never sounded better. I have your videos to thank in guiding those purchases.
The power of an EQ in the effects loop cannot be understated. If I was in the market for an EQ to put in the loop of my Mark V, would you pick the MXR 10 band, the EQFH or this new PMEQ? Much like you, I'm stuck in the 80s sonically, and love thrash.
Thanks again Lamb, cheers!
Really starting to think you're a tone wizard haha. You make a video and you can't think it can get much better but you come back and knock it out the park! How close do you think you are on a scale out of 100 to getting it nailed? This sounds spot on to me so I'd say 100% lol, but my ear isn't as good as yours. Gorgeous Jackson too!
I’ve got to come back with a b&k mic to blend with the 57, I’ll have another go soon enough 😂
@@LambChopper678 😂 the endless chase!!. Love it! Can't wait for the next one!. Absolute legend haha
He gets his wizard powers from his gray shirts and cargo shorts.
Sounds great. Saw the boards on the door, Im 57 and still skate everyday and play Metallica alot on guitar. I grew up cranking early Metallica drinking kegs, smoking weed and cigs at lizards mouth in Santa Barbara. (dont smoke cigs anymore lol).
This was my DREAM!!!
I can’t tell you how far down the rabbit-hole I’ve gone trying to nail this tone, and yet this does it perfectly! The parametric was the missing link, clearly!!
Btw, I believe you can hear the JCM used in overdubs in serval places - between the pre chorus and chorus in Sanitarium is probably the most obvious to me.
Also, to my ear a lot of the rhythm tracks sound like G12-65s - this is really apparent on RTL but more subtle on MoP.
Finally, please make a video trying to cop the AJFA tone with this now!!
Thanks for the awesome videos, man!
...ohhh, ...don't you worry, ...he will!!!
...OOOOOOHHH, ....YEEEAAAAHHHHH!!! ...FINALLY!!!
...I'm gonna buy AT LEAST, TWO OF THESE, ...AND, WHO KNOWS, ...maybe even FOUR OF EM', ...so I can dedicate "ONE" to EACH of the "HORSEMEN"!!!
...yep, ...that's right, ...I DID IT, ...I "just" now went over to ME, ...and bought myself FOUR, ...that's right, ...FOUR of these GLORIOUS, PUPPET MASTER EQ PEDALS!!! ...ooohhhhh, ...yeaaaahhhhh!!!
...I wanna send over a BIG THAK YOU! ...to YOU!! ...LAMBCHOPPER!!! ...for the heads up!!!!
...you, ...keep on a ROCKIN'!!!
...CHEERS, my brother!!!
...OH, YEAAHH!!!

MOP sounds like G12-65s instead of G12T-75s because they're 1st gen T-75s which are really nothing more than 75 watt G12-65s. These 1st gen speakers sound nothing like today's 75s and are even constructed differently.
@@Tomcat82 I’ve heard this said before! Reign in Blood was famously recorded on early T75s and I know my G12-65 and G12-80 cabs get me in the ballpark. I’d love to know how similar they are!
Dang. Spot on!
Literally as soon as I'm searching this type of thing, your video pops up. Amazing
Nailed it, man ! The tone and playing are on point ! Good job
I think you could use this EQ in order to achieve a decent Schuldiner tone, too. It gives me that vibe.
That’s what I was thinking, I tried it in the dsl and the tone that came to mind was Exodus - Impact is imminent
okay, I just need that now
Classic riff after classic riff. That EQ definitely gets you really close with that Mesa head.
This is such a golden video to find. Thank you !
DAMN!! this is sooo good! Thanks!
Just throwing us all back to the 80s and listening with mates to it on cassette. Absolutely great as always to listen in
Damn, I need this pedal now. So awesome
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us viewers - I've learned a great deal from watching your content. Cheers!
I swear to god that tone is like therapy
Master of parrot makes every bird alive) Great tones man. Thanx for the clue
Simply awesome
Always find myself coming back to your channel. No one on UA-cam seems to be able to replicate tones as well as you! Very underrated channel in my opinion.
This is just an absolute fountain of knowledge.
Could watch this channel all day. Phenomenal !!
Another great video. Have you considered doing one with this EQ and the 5150 III and the Marshall DSL20 as well. You've really helped me on my Metallica tone chasing journey. I put a MXR 10 band in the FX loop of my 5150 III after watching your videos and it got me the closest to an AJFA tone as I have ever got. Now I need to work on my MOP tone.
Greatest channel ever
That’s the one brother. Awesome display of Puppets tonality mate.
Man that sound is BULLSEYE ! ❤
damn thats such a sweet sound. when i first listened to puppets i was completely blown away by this tone. i tried for at least 15 years to match this sound and of course i was wrong on all levels. i used to think we all used pedals and that was about it. and back then there was no internet. and i wasnt clever enough to figure out the settings or rich enough to buy their amps. i got close with boss distortion pedals noise gates and an old peavey 25 watt amp plugged into a marshall 4 by 12 cabinet. but i could never get that brightness down. or get as tight. i always cringed playing anything off the album because it wasnt as crisp. lol and dont even get me started on ride the lightening. the sounds on that pissed me off when i heard about the studio tricks i was like thats why can never get the start of whom the bell tolls. lol have a nice day dude.
Glad for you that one guy from Master Effects didn't sell you crap. I bought the Martyr for over 200€, which is supposed to simulate the Valvestate 8100. Constant loss of volume as if the guitar signal is only intermittently going through the pedal. Heavy controls. And full gain on the OD2 sounds like gain at 4 on my Marshall DSL5C. It can definitely not be my Mogami cables.
Ohh my god that sound dude. You are a legend to bring this to us. Such shame you live so far away... i would love to have a cold beer, a god steak and play some riffs with you (and YES I would pay the whole thing :-)
Amazing video as always, insanely accurate tone
Damn, Lamb! You killed it!
Again!🤘🏻
Impressive as usual, Brother!
Love these videos. You do a fantastic job recreating these tones. Would love to see what you could do with something more affordable for us peons like a boss katana. Keep up the good work. Rock on dude 🤘
Sounds cool!
Re the speakers, the notes say '300w cabs' so deffo 75w speakers. I'd put my money on G12-T75 given when it was recorded 👍
It’s a hard one, either that or celestion vintage. It was all speculation and nothing substantial
@@LambChopper678I don't think MOP could have been recorded with Vintage 30s because the very first of those speakers wasn't released until late 1986. MOP was released on March 3, 1986, meaning James's guitar tracks were recorded in late 1985, a whole year before the first production Vintage 30 was ever born.
You have perfected your craft up to this point in my eyes sir. Awesome! All of your tones are the closest Ive heard anywhere.
I just subscribed . The bands on your video list is almost an exact copy of my music collection. This was the best era for music. Your guitar playing is killer man i play too but not as good as you. Keep rocking man. P.S. you have some bad ass guitars too man i love the content.
Thank you for all your knowledge you are sharing in these videos! It's nice to hear how "tight" a distorted guitar can sound with the correct effects and amp settings.
A master and his craft.
wow thats a good tone
identical wow
Haven’t seen anything from you in a while brother. Hope all is well. 🤘🏻
You have great ears and your recordings are what they claim from the title. Great stuff.
Many thanks for the video, did enjoy it and ordered the PMEQ! BTW, I love the vintage skate decks at the door -- Mike Valley!
Ever since my early days of playing on a tribute band to today playing the occasional cover, I’ve used the tried and true bass high, mid down, treble high eq arc when playing Metallica tunes. Oh,,, and aggressive down pick is essential 🤘
Amazing job lamb. I'm also in the T75 camp assumption. Seems like that was the flavor of the month during that time.
How have I missed this boobtoob channel for so long. Thanks Ola for sending me here. Fellow Aussie too.
You are extremely good at this. Bloody hell
I felt like I was listening to the masters. Well done.
(Michigan)
Beautiful Jackson, have fun with that M.E. pedal! And...great playing also.
Great video dude! Nice tones and playing.
Amazing stuff. You just nailed the sound. And without digital. What also helps is your cool riffing. What a pedal this is. Roch herd.
Man I’d love to hear that pedal through the 800 🤘🤘
You're going to have EQ's out the wazoo soon mate. Yet again another awesome tone capture and vid. I think two Aphex's were used in AJFA, would be interesting to put both the ME EQs in the loop to see what tone(s) come out the other side.
Pretty damn authentic! Gotta say!
Watching you play Battery made me realize I've been playing it a little wrong. Super sick video!
sounds great , the pinky on the fifth really comes through, just like the way it should be played.
Well I'm sold! Sounds great!
That’s a sick cab. Never seen a Mesa 1x12.
You’ve got a great ear to tweak that parametric so accurately. 👌🏼
Awesome video! Would you try to replicate the guitar tone they used on the $5.98 Ep Garage Days Re-Revisited from 1987, I just love the raw crunchiness of that guitar tone.
This.
Wow this sounds really close to the real deal! Amazing!
very impressive playing. as you well know, tone comes from fingers just as much as it does equipment! and you nailed it sir!
Awesome job. I much prefer when you cut some of those bass frequencies out about 5:31 time stamp…. Question do you find that the UA-cam upload is compressing things a bit more than what you’re hearing in the room?
Ordered one after I saw this video. Great job, man! Sounds so good
Has your been shipped I’m about to order I wonder if there in stock
Killer as always my brother 🤘🏾💪🏾
Hi from France. You got The tone! Like . Your the boss
That's the Boogie sound I love.
dude the video is amazing, i could just watch an 1 hour video of you messing with this pedal.
That tone is fucking sick!!!!!!! Very very very nice!!!!!
Beautiful Jackson. Look into the new KVTMG, it looks very similar to the one Hetfield used for Master of Puppets.
I took a SUNN amp and due to lack of funds at the time plugged 3 used Gorilla amps and 2 cheap crate amps together and turned every knob on all of them with my DOD American metal pedal and my Charvel guitar and came as close as anyone in the eighth grade to having the Master of Puppets tone. It only worked for house parties. The second I plugged the setup into cabinets it was lost. Give it a try if you have a bunch of practice amps.
The notes on those albums recording process are super interesting to thumb through.
Probably very obvious but I like how the logo on the pedal resemble the hands on the 'Master of Puppets' album art
Please do a video using this pedal to nail the Justice tone.
How would you say this EQ compares to the ME EQFH for getting these Metallica tones? I recently got the EQFH after watching your demo of it for AJFA tones.
Yeah me too, great question
My review of the specs says the EQFH has the boot and cut which are adjustable, for each section while this is a fixed boost. The Frequency ranges are different also, the PMEQ has a larger High-end range and a higher low-end range. The PMEQ is a smaller footprint also.
Me too. I have a Mesa MK V 25 and the EQFH. Should I buy this as well?
@@aynakotalaga I doubt you’d need that if you already have those two. Sounds like you’re set. This thing seems like it’s more or less preset. if you want to do it quicker then maybe you should grab it otherwise Ide say you’re good.
appreciate the orion shootout in the outro!
Sick Powell decks in the background
Just ordered one . Interesting to see what it sounds like with my 2C++ het modded. You sure do it justice.
This is awesome!! Pretty much perfect in tone. At least to my ears lol.
Just found your channel and absolutely love it! Keep it up. Great playing. You should do some lessons as well for your technique. I notice how accurate you are and also using small movement without locking up. I tend to lock up a lot when trying to play fast . Cheers mate
Just got this Eq in the mail to go with my mark v25! Awesome video. Would love to see this eq on the crunch channel to get the justice tone nailed.
Lambchopper... you fkin rock bro! Shred on shredmaster!
THAT KING V IS SWEET!
Excellent Demo. I came across 2 ME pedals (SLOverdrive & Misanthrope) by chance from 2 different sellers in 2 days about a month ago and I love these guys. I would love one of these and the EQFH but I already have an Empress para Eq, Boss PQ3, 2 Furman PQ3's and a PQ4 (racks)from Chasing that Pantera Tone way back.I want both anyway just for convenience. I have several great Modelers, but love analog pedals ! I love that Bird, he just goes about his business . I would love to see ME make a Flanger/Doubler pedal made famous by the MXR rack unit. I have one and they have just blown up in price. It's insane. Can't believe no one has made one yet. I'm chumming the water a little. I love your YT Channel ! Great Playing, and you really do your homework and know your Sh** ! Peace, Love & Acid.
