I just had a nice chuckle when I realized that when you're listening to songs like damage inc and disposable heroes, the guy in the recording was wearing a shirt with a giant smiling pink bubble on it called mr. bubbles.
I started playing guitar in 2000 and had known the song since about 97' or so. I was taking guitar lessons for a little bit at first, and upon asking my teacher about this intro, he told me that Cliff did it on bass. I remember being surprised to learn that.
I guess. Its just info pulled from everywhere else. The bit about Cliff not wearing headphones came straight from the video of the band talking with Flemming reflecting on recording master of puppets.
Especially because it's impossible that you say that to anyone at midnight, you should instead calculate quickly how many more hours are left until the time they fall asleep.

Hey would you mind if I advise you to create a discord server for synth experts since there are people who are curious where some sounds come from (so do I), it could be very helpful by the way, like if I find a sound interesting, why not asking someone who is an expert about them?
@@chris.chaney i've always thought of this as a really verby album. was pretty surprised to hear this. if the video is saying the mixer used echo because reverb was off limits, well he just changed the settings to create reverb with echo
The sound never reaches your ears directly, in a straight line from a source - it also bounces off the walls, it is repeated in the room you're in and changes its frequency spectrum. To simplify the idea, the more of those bouncing sound waves, the more complicated the sound is, and what we finally receive into our ears is called reverb. When you change its specific properties, you create a sense of depth, distance and indirectness. This is what Metallica and many bands that followed tried to avoid. Famously, guys from Slayer have said that what set Reign in Blood from Hell Awaits was lack of reverb (well, this is at least debatable, but I won't skip the details here). Of course, there's some reverb on leads on MOP, but just compare the intro to Ride the Lightning (the song) and the intro to Master of Puppets (the song as well) and you'll hear the difference is huge. All this, of course, has to do with rhythm guitars, and the bass guitar as drums, leads and vocals are something completely different.
It definitely has less reverb than Lightning. That album was drenched in reverb. It was a very unique sound though. Then Justice was extremely dry as far as reverb. It too was a very unique sounding album. Even though it had no bass, Lars' kick drums made up for it on a good system. Also, sadly...Cliff was not killed instantly. Far from it from what I heard.
Sound wise, they didn't quite capture the depth and muscle of the Ride The Lightning production which was a shame. Otherwise, this was the record they could never top. We can all presuppose Cliff had something to do with that. Great vid.
I politely disagree. I thought they captured the real sound of the band with Master. They just sound tight and professional. As we've seen on future recordings, they missed the mark a few times in their career production (and of course song wise). Ride has a weird sound in my opinion.
@@beeemm2578 My personal fav, in terms of guitar sound and overall vibe was The Garage Days Revisited ep. The rawness and upfront attack of the mix captured something most metal bands could only dream of. Metallica's guitar tones seem to modulate every record until Bob Rock took over production. If you look up past interviews with Hetfield, he's mentioned Ride, up until The Black Album, was his pick for the best production sound. I can understand why. MOP definitely had a sound but Ride had better guitar tones.
@@protocolmystics2818 I think it had just enough reverb but since Hetfield was always changing amp configurations back then, who knows. It was still early in their career. Sonically, it doesn't take much to alter a guitar sound in a studio setting. You're always looking for that sweet spot and it could fool you sometimes.
IMPOSSIBLE...Metallica & Flemming Rasmussen didn't have access to the latest & greatest studio recording equipment at the time (compared to Bob Rock)...how can Master Of Puppets sound like The Black Album if they didn't have access to top-notch team of engineers/producers nor top-tier mics and recording equipment...it's like asking someone to replicate Dr. Dre's sound in your basement
Blasphemy…. Stop listening to Metallica. The Black Album is the first album that was technically overproduced. It represents the time when main stream losers all of a sudden became Metallica fans. I was there , I heard Seek and Destroy on a bootleg mix tape before they released an album. I was trying to learn how to play it on guitar before Kill em All even came out. The early less produced albums represent a genre being created my friend…
Soy, what? Kurt had wait for glue to dry? The glue under the spray finish? The fretboard? Don’t just post nonsense without checking. Do you think a company like Jackson will send out semi completed guitars? 🙄

Enjoy your last 24 hours on earth.
James in the "Mr. Bubble" T-Shirt looks like the quintessential metalhead of the era.
Spam shirts were way cooler. Hell, even Kool-Aid was cool. Mr. Bubble though? No, that was for more for the gay crowd.
MMO. You are like that cool band that not enough people know about, but every one who does, becomes a fan.

Another killer video 🤙

Well done -- cheers
Thank you! 😃
I would have loved to see Lars laying down the drum parts for this album.
weren't video cameras around back then? studio footage would be epic..
They weren't widely used and didn't work well in low light environments, that would change a few years down the line. FYI
Yep. I would have loved to have seen studio footage for the recording of the first four albums.
Very good

You have some things wrong. For example the Mesas were not slaved into the Marshalls. This myth should die already
wasn't there a bit of reverb on the vocals?
Definitely some reverb going on everywhere but probably a lot less than most rock records at the time.
There was a drum machone on "Pyromania". Only cymbals were recorded live.
The drums were sampled. The main snare drum they sampled was the Ludwig black beauty.
There are NO human drums on Def Leopard Pyromania. Thats all samples played on a keyboard.
The Ludwig Black beauty was sampled for the recording.
It was a great album sure was a long road to record.. today’s recording so much more simple

Pretty sure the drums on Pyromania are programmed but still a neat fact if Lars borrowed Leppard’s sonar.
They were indeed ,and the main drum they sampled was the Ludwig Black Beauty.
One of the heaviest boy bands of all time.
whats this about no reverb? album sounds like its underwater
