OBS Ford Restoration Part 6: Fixing 3 Common Problems

  • The interior is finally finished! In this video I fix three common problems that plague the OBS Fords. All of these problems are fairly simple to fix and don't require a whole lot of time. Dash pads are getting fairly expensive nowadays, but everything else only cost a couple of dollars. I do have to give credit where credit is due however, Jon Fox over at The Fox Shop came up with the idea of using a hurricane strap to fix the sagging dash. It was a great idea, and was the best fix I had come across, so I decided to go with it. Thanks Jon!

Hey Cody, you're doing a great job with your how-to's! I'm 70, owned and driven a lot of Fords over the years, and your approach to keeping your great OBS Ford on the road is smart, realistic and the way to do it. It's how I've kept my 1996 F150 Eddie Bauer looking and running great. Thanks for what you are doing. All the best to you!

Thank you for making your own repair brackets. I did this exact same thing 15+ years ago ... long before these OBS parts sellers were a thing. I'm happy that you're not a typical OBS UA-camr, buying their overpriced products and parroting how great they are. The OBS community has a lot of great people, but sadly it has a lot of money grubbin' opportunists taking advantage of people new to the OBS world.

BTW that’s interesting about what you said about the freeze plugs on the top of the transmission. I never thought of that before. Nice job. For those little cracks in the abs plastic of the dashboard, a little acetone goes a long way. The repair will be invisible because you not adding any new material just reflowing the abs a little. When you overlay metal and rivet or bolt it together, try applying body adhesive or simply some metal impregnated epoxy between the layers. It keeps out moisture and distributes the load more evenly for a solid feel for years to come.

Hi Osmund, I wouldn’t mind making one, but I have a fellow UA-cam friend (Joel at Blowing Diesel) who already makes them and sells them on his website. He does fantastic work and their even higher quality than what you saw in my video. I left a link below to his website where you can buy one. All I ask is you tell him Cody at YDOC Productions sent ya.
