NONE OF THEM😡🫵 I WANT TO SPEAK TO YOUR SPONSER'S MANAGER NOW👺👇 (p.s This is my edit Please dont hurt me I'm just kidding 😭 so sorry if I was a meanie 😭)
I mean why shouldn't I feel entitled as a customer? I am paying money for the product I am purchasing. Of course it shouldn't be at the expense of the respect for the employees. But customer entitlement in itself isn't a wrong thing.
@@idkatthispoint-s9s I didn't mean it like that. I meant like some customers are rude to the people who work there because they think they are better than them. Sorry if you misunderstood.
@@idkatthispoint-s9syou need to see the bigger picture: being able to pay someone else to provide a service for you is a privilege. you’re lucky we all work together and you aren’t on your own. we need to treat each other better and not act entitled bc this could all be taken away with one nuclear bomb and we are not that far from destruction at any moment…but we don’t act like it.
As someone who works on customer service I DESPISE that phrase of “the customer is always right”. Now because of that ppl start saying things like “I am a paying customer and I deserve blah blah blah” or “if you can’t do it, get me someone that can”. Also, I know you said it and it’s a generalization but it’s kinda true that older people tend to be more rude and disrespectful than younger people haha.
My racist-ass grandfather tried to tell me that a worker was rude to him recently because they're racist, even though she said nothing racist whatsoever. I was like, "Yup, racism is pretty stupid, isn't it?" He stfu real quick. Total sense of entitlement.
Old people are also worse about being on their phone. I will tell one of my patients here, fill out these papers, and literally come back 10 minutes later to them playing games on their phone without a single page filled out. you acknowledged when I told you, whyyyyyy do they not listen?!
I am not USAmerican or even from an English-speaking country, so please take this with a grain of salt, but I have actually read somewhere that originally, the phrase "The customer is always right" was supposed to be "The customer is always right, IN MATTERS OF TASTE.", which was supposed to mean that if a customer wants to buy something you find weird, unusual, not your taste, etc. you should let them because that is their choice and preference. It was NOT supposed to excuse and justify harrassment and mistreatment of workers who already deal with enough shit. But as with many sayings, it has been cut in half to cater to the most entitled of people. Customer service workers, and anyone who works any kind of similar job, deserve so much better. Better pay, better treatment, better working conditions, better lives.
@@daa5865 omg yes! famously, the phrase "blood of the covenant is thicker than water of the womb" that somehow turned into "blood is thicker than water"
I think how people treat others in the service industry says a lot about their character and I wish people could have the decency to treat others with respect no matter what kind of industry they may work in
Literally, so many people judge service industry workers, ("You don't want to work at McDonald's do you??" 🙄) but if those people worked other jobs, who's gonna serve them then? People love to complain but it just doesn't work without them, someone has to do it, and we should appreciate that, if we ourselves don't want to work in that field.
I think it's such a good tell on a first date if your date treats the staff poorly or is super entitled, it's an immediate red flag. It shows how they really treat people they're not trying to please.
Here's my horror story: I worked at the paint desk (which was adjacent to the chemical aisle) at Lowe's for the summer in 2019. One day a woman (40 something) came in with presumably her daughter (about 13) and asked if I could help them find the turpentine. Seemed like a totally normal request lol. So I started walking with them over to where the turpentine would be and the lady starts telling me how her daughter got paint on her skin and they couldn't get it off. The daughter rolls up the sleeve of her hoodie and shows me her arm, which was COMPLETELY COVERED IN BLUE SPRAY PAINT. It dawns on me that this wacko wants to soak her daughter's arm IN TURPENTINE. Thank the universe that we didn't have any in stock that day. Instead, I tried pointing her toward alternatives, including heavy duty wipes that, while not the best for skin, were far safer than turpentine. I kid you not, this lady said "no, it looks like those are too harsh". I continued trying to find something while saying I didn't think turpentine was safe for skin, and she had the audacity to say "can you get me someone who's older and knows more about turpentine?" I wish the best for that girl and I hope she still has both arms.
I don't understand how people are so outright rude... Like what? You don't go up to someone on the street and say the most random, offensive stuff right? RIGHT?! Why do it to someone who potentially could help you?
@@-.severly.depressed.-I love it when I tell a costumer something and they still think that I’m wrong so then I go get a manger and they basically tell the customer the same thing I just told them
@@-.severly.depressed.-I worked at a public library for a few years. I was actually the employee who had been there the longest for most of my time there. Anyway, I'm young, I've taken some classes where I've had to use excel and Google docs and Microsoft and Photoshop and all that stuff. So, when older patrons come up to the desk and ask how they do something computer/tech related, I'm the person who usually helps them, because I know how to do it most of the time. I remember one day a middle aged woman asked me how to log into her email on one of the public use computers. I went over to help her and see what janky thing the computer was doing today. It was not the computer at fault. This lady couldn't remember her password. To make a very long story short, she couldn't access her account no matter what we tried. She was getting progressively more frustrated as time went on and she pretty quickly started to blame stuff on me. It got to the point where she was just flat out cursing at me and I was about to cry because that was the first interaction I had had with a patron like that. I didn't know what to do. She asked for "someone older" to help her rather than the "dumb child" and I got someone else. My coworker obviously couldn't do much to actually help her but somehow the patron's demeanor did a 180. That definitely wasn't the worst thing that happened during my time working there, but it was for sure one of the most frustrating
I worked at Walmart and had to have 2 old people scream at me because their coupons didnt work. They were years expired, wrong item, and not even for Walmart. Once the swear words came out, i had to call a manager because they were attacking me personally over sugar cereal.
Omg i worked at Walmart and a old lady screamed in my ear (i was unloading her riding cart) that she was never coming back because she couldn't return a lampshade at my register
fun fact: a better version of the customer is always right (and some believe, the original, unshortened version) is actually "the customer is always right in matters of taste" (as in like. you don't tell them the dress they want to buy makes them look like a potato sack)
Is it like the "blood is thicker than water case" where the original is "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" or smth like that
the customers being rude i can take. what i can't take is when they are rude and upper management does nothing to stop them from being a rude, entitled brat. they let the customers walk all over us.
Yeah encountering assholes should be expected. It sucks but it's a fact of life because they're everywhere. What's soulcrushing and discouraging is when management believes the assholes over you (supposedly a "trusted team member") and then throws you under the bus in order to placate them.
This. I've worked a ton of retail jobs and only two supervisors ever stood up for me in front of a customer, and they were damn good at their job to boot.
Cheddar’s scratch kitchen in Johnson city, tn allowed a racist customer to switch to a white server. If I wasn’t living in total poverty at that time, I would have made a scene. I was a server there at the time and witnessed it happen.
Oh my god. Firstly, "I will dance upon your grave and my joy will soak so deep into the ground that the devil will be able to feel it and he will smile" is perhaps the best thing I've ever heard. Secondly, you got me. I've worked in food service, I am allergic to dairy, have a gluten intolerance, and just generally hate to be a bother. I feel called out lol.
I worked in customer service here in France (I'm from Canada). People demanding things NOW is so accurate, and so panic-inducing. Especially when you're trying to answer coherently in your second language. :')
An odd, somewhat positive interaction I had working in a clothing store. Someone saw a shirt on a mannequin they liked but couldn't find it on the tables. I asked a few colleagues if they knew where it was. I rummage through some shirts and eventually find it. I show it to the customer and swear I've never seen someone so happy about some random shirt in my life. They gave me a high five. Kinda wholesome. A work friend asked what just happened because they saw the high five. Just told em that I found this person a shirt. Probably left them more confused
I have been told by a nurse that the idea that "being a waiter can be more stressful than being a doctor" is actually not that far off from the truth and it was so validating.
it's their superiority complex for me. the amount of times of i've thought of ditching my job because of the people that i have to answer 5 times a week are basically numb skulls with no basic human decency. the karens are especially UNBEARBLE.
I have quit 2 out of 3 customer service jobs I've had because my mental health plummeted. It's insane how much abuse you're expected to take. Customers call in pissed off, screaming, cussing and you're not even allowed to defend yourself and they never stop attacking you even when you try your best to help them. Really I would advise everyone to AVOID customer service jobs lmao
Numb skulls is an understatement I seriously question how some of these people have live 60 years of their lives without knowing basic common sense. I’m talking whne the card reader says “please remove card” and they stand there in shock going “why is it telling me to remove my card😱”
@@youknowwhat9911 they be thinking "how's that possible?!" but you be like just get the damn card out. violence is really entering my mind i encounter them lack of common sense people
Ooh! Ooh! Storytime! A couple days ago, I had some old lady come to my lane right before I was supposed to close. Being the tolerant person I am, I told her I'd check her out if she put the closed sign at the end so nobody else came through. She obliged. I then spent the next seven minutes trying to get this woman to use a fucking EBT card. The total was higher than the balance and she needed stuff taken off. The convo went like this: "Well what do I do now? I don't know what to do, I don't work here!" "You need to pick items to void so you can use the card." "Which ones?" FYM 'which ones'?? That's YOUR choice. She just kept saying "I don't know that's your job" when I asked what to void. I finally got her to choose. All good, right? This bitch hits me with "You know, you're not very *friendly* when you're trying to get out of here." ??????????? And that's not even the full interaction. I didn't get into how she refused to believe I checked the balance on her card instead of just making the purchase, or that it wasn't even her card at all. It was her *friend's,* and she was getting stuff for them. I deadass have no idea what I could've done to avoid that situation. She refused to cooperate with me and wouldn't explain what she was upset about. But the audacity of her to tell me I'm "not being friendly" when It's 5:07 and I want to leave is fuckin crazy. That was the closest I have ever gotten to cussing someone out and that's not even my worst story. Edit: I maybe understand what she meant by being friendly. I have a very flat sounding voice, doesn't matter why, but unless I'm really excited, it's a monotone. It's not really something I can control. Obviously, she didn't know that. Still a shitty thing to say to someone you KNOW just wants to go home.
The worst job I ever had was drive through Starbucks. Those customers are assholes. One time a guy yelled at me at 5am because I was working alone and I didnt hand him his drink fast enough making him “late for work.” Another time some jerk made me remake a Frappuccino so many times I cried. She wanted the cup coated in caramel, and no matter home many times I made it, she sent it back. Some people are monsters.
When I worked at a coffee shop, me and an employee got berated by this dude with a missing index finger. He threw a milk creamer at me, called her a stupid bitch and a couple racist slurs to me ( she was the one who took his order, I made the drinks), all because he thought he ordered 2 coffees when he only got charged for one. Then when I went to my manger saying I refuse to take his order, they went over to him, took his side and apologized for our actions, and gave him the other coffee for free. After that I literally just walked out the back door and went home. Then employees that we’re still there that night, told me that he sat at and empty table by himself, didn’t order anything else, for 2-3 hours just scanning the building, probably looking for me tbh. Yeah coffee Addict boomers are fucking insane.
That's awfull. I've worked a shitty service job in a fast food but I was lucky enough to have supportive managers who would have our back when a rude customer would show up. Really made the job more bearable.
I've worked at a coffee shop too and the number of times customers have screamed because of dumb reasons are too many count. Picking up the wrong coffee at the collection area to then come back to scream at us that we made the wrong one, not ordering the correct thing and then we give them what they asked for for free to shut them up, only for them to berate us and being all snarky it isn't "exactly" how they wanted, parents kids vomiting and throwing food around but then the parents leaving it to the staff to clean up. Those to name a few. And I only worked there for 6 months so god knows what else people working there for longer went through.
coffee shop customers are just fucking insane sometimes lol, I used to work at starbucks and while a lot of people were nice, i've never met as many weird customers as at starbucks or mcdonalds lmao
I got yelled at by a old man in McDonald's because i accidentally rung up a small coffee instead of a senior citizen coffee THERE IS ONLY A 5 CENT DIFFERENCE then he" tipped me " with a packet of m&ms
what a loser lmao. not you. you’re awesome for walking out. you don’t deserve that at all. can’t believe that dude did that. i’d be ashamed to be a grown as man and acting like that.
i worked as a barista for about a year, and the teens and people in their early twenties were always super nice. it was usually middle aged and boomers who caused problems. i always think about that when i hear people say our generation doesn't have manners
yeah agreed. Gen Alpha though I’m worried about. Oh and even as a Gen Z, there’s still lots of us who were never taught manners apparently. So older people and the youngest generation currently Im genuinely concerned about. Being raised on the internet by trolls and alpha male podcasters is a recipe for disaster.
i am one of those mcdonald’s workers that can’t hide their exhausted face anymore. however when someone asks me for help/tells me something was wrong in their order (politely) i switch my voice so quickly. i really felt seen in that sketch lmaoooo
I got fired from McDonald's because i was traumatized by boiling oil burning my neck and face a few months before i got hired i told them at the interview about it and how incredibly uncomfortable it made me being around it they said it was fine since i was gired to be a cashier....well i had to work fries everyday until i reminded my manager what she told me in the interview...i got fired immediately after
Sometimes In the middle of a transaction or something, customers get to hear my "customer service voice" turn off when I say something to a coworker. like if the phone is ringing ill be like "hey can you get the phone" in the most monotone annoyed voice then I turn my head and go 'Will that be everything?! 😃😃😃" with my pitch turned way up. hahaha
The people who say "the customer is always right" are also the people who tell the hourly employee making a non-living wage that they're going to "take their business elsewhere" as if that employee cares. If anything, you're threatening them with a good time.
The customer getting upset that they can't return a shirt at a restaurant bit immediately took me back to when I worked at a furniture store and a customer got mad at me over clothing items used to stage the rooms (i.e. a jacket on a coat rack) not being for sale. After he asked for the price on two different clothing items he yelled, "DO YOU SELL *ANYTHING* HERE?"
Had a lady in Barnes & Noble crying in the bathroom until the store closed, then came out and ran around in the shelves to get away from my manager trying to kick her out. Threw up on the carpet a few times. Came up to me crying saying she couldn’t find her husband but he couldn’t have left because he has no toes. Turned out to be true, he was just hiding in the other bathroom.
I work as a hairdresser and oh god, the amount of customers who walk in and think they're right no matter what we tell them is insane.. especially when karens come in thinking that they can do x thing and im just like ma'am. this is impossible on ur hair. what am i supposed to do??? bruh the amount of karen stories i have is never ending (:
I work at a pet store and we have a grooming department in our store that is SEPARATE from us. They are a company all of their own. And one day a guy got mad because he thought the groomers were abusing his dog(they weren’t) and he go so mad he was screaming at everyone and then he pulled a gun out.. on the cashiers (I was one of them) we promptly called the cops and he was arrested. Costumer service is a great job🙃
Working at a coffee shop and having had a client literally scream at me because my coworker gave her thr wrong receipt..costumers are almost never right:) and yes,old people truly dont have good manners (as costumers)
That is so horrible and I am really sorry you have had to go through that. Neither you, nor anyone else working a job of this kind, deserves such treatment. Please take care of yourself. (My apologies if anything was worded strangely, awkwardly or came off sounding weird, English is not my native language)
I personally found elderly customers are either the nicest people in the world and super sweet or the most entitled babies to ever walk the Earth. There doesn't seem to be an in-between lol 😂 😂
I love my current job at a little local business and we have a sign by the register that says ‘please be nice or I’ll cry’ :D The only frustrating thing is when customers ask us for something we literally do not have and then get annoyed - we’re minimum wage workers, we’re not magic 😭
I work in customer service and here’s my favorite horror story: A lady in the drive through tried to hit me with her car because the line was too long. 😀
I've worked in retail for years in many different stores. My last boss was so amazing when it came to rude customers. She would take nooo sh*t from them at all, when they got rude she got even ruder lmao and she always defended me when a customer was rude towards me. I've learned so much from her in terms of standing up for yourself and taking no disrespect from anyone.
I just recently quit my job at a liquor store and I have sooooo many stories but the thing that gets me the most is when customers think you're lying or act like you're personally out to ruin their life when something is out of inventory, and it's always the old people and the rich people who are the worst behaved
I second this. I worked at gas stations for a long time and the worst customers 9 / 10 times were the "normal" people who worked a 9 - 5 job. The people who were homeless, prostitutes, and were in unique subcultures (bikers, punks, etc.) were fair and quite kind usually. My personal favorite customers were the people who worked at the weed store and the older guy who was a Korean war veteran and only spoke in grunts or about sports.
honestly just to keep busy and for laughs, but lord can some people make you feel like a dumbass when upper management sides with the customer just to avoid conflict, especially when you're in the right.
honestly, people should be taught in schools how to behave as a customer (and in public in general) cuz clearly some of y’all’s parents never told you how to treat other humans like… humans
There's nothing like asking people what they want to order and them just staring blankly at you like you grew a second head or get mad at you for trying to take their basically empty plate after they utterly ignored you asking if they were done, like I'm not a robot that can just stand here waiting for you to make up your mind
@@Miomiothethegreatgreatyeah but some people just treat customer service workers differently. like I’ve served a customer who lives in the same area as me and then interacted with them in a different context and the difference is insane. it’s like when you step behind the register you just become 1/2 a person to them lol
I worked at Sams club decorating cakes and it got heated. Once a lady waited 5 hours for me to get off so she could fight me. Then I worked at Starbucks and someone got mad we were taking too long and pulled a gun on us. So that was fun. Separately one of my coworkers had a seizure on the floor and it stopped production and people got pissed.
still convinced that the “everyone needs to work at least one customer service job” sentiment would change the way people interact with each other. Or at least lessen the entitlement / superiority some customers seem to think they have just because they are paying for a service.
I remember working at Saladworks and was threatened at knifepoint by a customer because we didn't offer EBT for our custom salads. He even threatened to jump me in the parking lot. My manager Danny literally did nothing to protect me. And the store our kiosk in did nothing to protect me and I was advised not to call the police.
It’s so refreshing to have nice customers, at least in my experience it’s a little rejuvenating and it of course feels nice to have people be kind and treat us like actual people. So my energy and demeanor tends to perk up a bit when there’s someone sweet.
I made subs at a grocery store, and when people come through and are super nice? I'm making sure they get the amount of condiments they want, throw a little extra meat or cheese on there, you want half the bucket of pickles? Absolutely. I bend over backwards for people who treat me like an actual human being
Ive never worked in customer service but the concept of tipping (in the US) is genuinely so confusing to me. Because i know waitresses and waiters rely mainly on tips to get any revenue from their job but at the same time I feel like we shouldn’t have to tip, because the company theyre working for should pay them for doing their job and not have the customers pay extra just so the workers can live. So if people keep tipping, the companies aren't ever going to change their way of paying their employees, but if you stop tipping then its considered rude and then you also risk the person not getting enough money for like rent or food or whatever. So in conclusion i have no idea
The only way to fix that is for the government to mandate service workers be paid at least the standard minimum wage like all other industries, since the federal minimum wage for tipped workers currently is only _$2.13 an hour._ But that won't happen because restaurant lobbies have a lot of money to bribe- I mean lobby politicians with, to make sure they'll never have to pay their workers properly
@@emilyb.8219 They're legally required to pay the difference within a pay period to minimum wage for the number of hours clocked. That doesn't always happen, and a lot of work happens off the clock, but that is the law.
@@grantprater5213 I'm aware, but the federal minimum wage is still only $7.25, so even if they pay the difference, that's still a poverty wage. Though I guess that's another topic
@@emilyb.8219 Yes that is another topic. And most wait staff make well above minimum wage. Currently it functions sort of like sales jobs where the most attractive and sociable wait staff make the most money. Things likely won't change because it works for the restaurants and the ones in the best position to make the case for a change (wait staff with good persuasive skills) are generally better off than average within their profession.
lol, this is so relatable. Retail is really messed up, it's been over 10 years since I did it as a teen so I can only imagine it's gotten progressively worse with time. I worked at a kiosk in a supermarket in the UK when I was 18, sold cigarettes, lottery tickets, high end booze the shop didn't want to leave on shelves, that sort of thing. The problem being, it was right by the entrance of the shop. So often people would walk in, see me and come right up to me not noticing the line and the person approaching me from said line. 9/10 you'd just quickly say "oh sorry, the line is actually over there" and they'd apologise and join the line like a normal person. The other times it was "I'll be quick, I just want a pack of smokes". Yeh no crap buddy, so do all the people in the line who have waited. They'd join the line but make it clear they were angry about it. I walked out when one of them spat on me. Walked right out that kiosk into the staff room, washed myself off and went home to shower. Now none of you are getting served, good job idiot. Some people just aren't raised right and shouldn't be allowed out in public. Thankfully in the above circumstance a supervisor spotted me on the way out and asked me where I was going, I explained the situation and all he could reply with was "that's more than fair, go relax and we'll see you tomorrow". So shoutout to that one reasonable supervisor because I was feeling feral after that and had he replied in any other way, I'd be in jail. Retail changes you, you'll never catch me being rude to a shop worker or a server because it really does feel like you're dealing with people on the verge of a breakdown and I'm not going to be the catalyst. Just speak/treat people like they're a human, why is this such a difficult concept? And don't spit on people, if you're old enough to buy cigarettes, you're old enough to control your bodily fluids.
I think these Karen's go rampant and unchecked is because young people are afraid of conflict. I was complacent and had a high tolerance for abuse at the cost of my well-being 10+ years ago. Now I'm kind of proud of getting fired from both my last ever retail job and my last ever warehouse job lmao. I really let them have it, it was cathartic.
As a customer service veteran I will always leave my table clean, dishes stacked and garbage separated. But your behavior will decide if you get a tip or not. I believe it costs nothing to be kind to others. Especially those helping you, or those vulnerable.
I’ve Worked 60+ hour manual labor jobs, and I will say, long manual labor days were still easier than working the two customer service jobs I worked in my life. If I can go back again, I’d still work twice as much per week if it means I don’t have to deal with awful customers and corporate shills.
I agree completely. A work career of mostly hardcore warehouse work and I happily preferred that over dealing with entitled idiots. And that's coming from someone who was physically destroyed in the long-term doing that work. I don't regret it.
im a grocery store cashier and my god i dont have any stories particular that i would call a “horror story” but you wont believe the amount of people who yell at me because we charge 10 cents per bag when it’s literally our towns law and i have no control over that😭or when i try to explain to people why they have to run their food stamps card again (because technically it declines but we run it to find out how much money is on it and i can key in the right amount and people literally freak out because they have to swipe their card again 😭 little things like this drive me nuts. on top of things like throwing icecream tubs on to the counter towards my direction and people just believing im an idiot like when they have a big pack of sodas and the tell me “dont put that in the back” like im aware i have eyes😭it’s a struggle every day
I think I might’ve traumatized someone into being a scaredy cat customer when I was a carhop at Sonic. I was like 16 and having a full blown panic attack, but we were short staffed and busy as hell so I couldn’t leave. I was running trays out with tears streaming down my face and practically hyperventilating.💀 I still tried to smile. I gave this guy the wrong shake and he really looked like he didn’t want to say anything, but he was like… this… is not what I asked for… and I like burst out into full on sobs and was like ok and went to fix it. He looked so scared 💀💀💀💀
A customer once loudly asked if I could read and if I had even graduated high school, when I stood my ground on what our prices ACTUALLY were. Everyone else in the lobby went dead silent. When I called my manager like he asked, my manager gave him the lower price that he demanded 😑
I just had a guy the other day swear at me multiple times, call me stupid when I scanned an item twice (at Dollar tree almost everything is 1.25), and berate me for his card not working a/o not having enough funds. Hombre also switched from asshole to nice to asshole like nothing. A lady felt bad for me so she paid for him and he switched back to nice and said "Isn't she nice?". My response was "Yes, she is. Happy holidays ma'am" and act like he didn't exist as he left.
I had a friend who's had multiple women yell at her because their signatures on the card reader didn't look correct. She tried explaining that it didn't really do anything for the purchase, and there was nothing she could do because the machines were shit.
I work as a cashier at a grocery store, and goodness gracious do people get entitled during the holidays. I swear the 1% of customers that are actually rude all appear during that time. *sigh* Other than that, most customers are pretty chill. Keyword most.
The infamous saying originally was actually ''the customer is always right in matters of taste" which makes A LOT more sense than the well known version.
I heard that the phrase "the customer is always right" is actually an incomplete quote which actually says "the customer is always right in their choice of style", referring to their choice of clothing. I think the guy who originally said it was the owner of a hat store or something way back when.
Some people wake up decide to go to a store or a restaurant and be a menace I'm temporarily working at a drugstore and most customers are truly sweet and reciprocate my kind and cheerful attitude but some are just straight up rude for no reason 😅
I remember when I was 14, I worked at Mcdonalds (I bet you can see where this is going). I was about to leave the main working area to go wipe down some tables. There was someone waiting at the register and one of my coworkers (important: who was on break) went to go serve him. My manager then came over and went to go tell my coworker POLITELY to not serve this man as he was on break, and that he will serve the customer instead. Mind you my manager didn't use the word please as he was in a rush, but he wasn't being rude at all. The customer (who was probably mentally unstable) proceeds to yell at my manager for not saying please and picked up and peg him with the eftpos machine and receipt printer at his face...and yet my manager didn't yell or even say anything, just stood there baring the pain and broken machines as this man storms out the store. This isn't even the only incedent that has happened whilst I worked there.
I worked at Wendy's for 3 months. Shockingly I never got that whole "customer service persona". I honestly hated customer service so much that I gave up on it pretty soon. I refused to smile at someone and act all chipper. I did it anyways and had to quit for college. I honestly got so happy cooking the fries because it gave me an escape from the customers. When my manager told me to go to fries it was like he told me we're going to Disney world. However, when a customer was overapologetic it was just like "you're find you don't need to do that". Lowkey they were my favorite though because everyone else who came in was rude, demanding, or confusing. It was a mess over there and the big boss didn't make it easier either. The managers absolutely sucked. He would be so mean to you but so nice to customers and it's like "really?" Just respect your employees too!
I feel the “older generation has a feeling of entitlement”. My mom is not exactly a Karen but she tends to be a little karenish. Then me just standing behind her in a restaurant and apologising to the staff.
When I worked at walmart I had a guy SCREAM at me. Full blown screaming fit, full of insults about how stupid and incompetent I am. Because... I had to touch the shirts he was buying to scan them. As if hundreds of other customers hadn't probably also touched those shirts. It was bad enough my older coworker had to argue with him to get him to stop
One time I visited my sister who was working at blockbuster alone. While I was hanging out letting her do her thing whenever a customer came up, this one guy couldn't rent a new video game due to his account being closed. Not even kidding. He freaked out screaming at my sister, a much smaller skinny woman, about how he rents all the time, no way its closed, everything. Finally he lost breath to scream and just left. Without the rental. My sister was so freaked and she was closing alone so I stayed til an hour to closing!
I used to work tech support and customer service for 5+ years and let me tell you, it left me with serious PTSD from the constant customer abuse and made me actively scared of finding better paying work for fear of dealing with customers again.
Not so long ago I got over my social anxiety and alerted the manager of this restaurant I was eating at with a friend that there was a living and moving maggot on our dessert plate n he tried to gaslight us into thinking it must have fallen out of the sky because we were sitting outside. I noticed the maggot literally 30 seconds after they served us😭 He didnt speak english well and was extremely rude in tone, we got no apology, plate exchange, nor refund on the dessert. It was a high end restaurant too😐 All I could do was write a horrid review with a picture of the maggot on the plate attached🫠 Never stepping a foot there again🤢
While I certainly have some horror stories, something happened to me last week at work that was hilarious- So for context, I work at a fabric/craft store. It’s a Tuesday afternoon, around 6, we close at 9, and it’s super slow. There’s only 3 employees at the store. We’re pretty understaffed, so this isn’t unusual. Me, on the register, an older lady on the fabric cutting counter, and my favorite manager. We have multiple managers, but the one on duty is really chill and we have a lot in common, so we get along well. Here’s where shit goes down: My manager notices this dude come in who is high of his a$$, not uncommon for the area we’re located, and as long as he isn’t causing trouble we won’t kick him out ofc, especially bc high customers are actually some of the nicest people I meet. My manager lets me know, (and whispers a joke about how he wishes he where that high rn, fair-) mainly so I can keep an eye out and make sure this guy doesn’t knock anything over etc. half an hour passes, dude comes up to the register and sets a decorative basket people usually buy for floral arrangements down or shelf organization down, and its stuffed with jewelry making supplies. Strings of plastic or glass beads, charms, metal jewelry wire, just lots of shiny stuff. He starts wildly patting himself down, before saying “Oh crap, I forgot my wallet in my car… I’ll uh be right back?” And I reply saying “Yeah that’s fine, if your gonna be gone longer than like, an hour tho, we need your information for a 24 hour hold-“ but he’s already ran out the door… So, I put the basket behind the counter, and forget about it, 8:30 rolls around, and like I mentioned before, we close at 9. No one else is in the store, and I remember the basket, so, seeing as it’s been two hours and this guy hasn’t come back, I start to put the stuff away and clean up. That’s when I find…. Pokémon cards. A good 20 or so Pokémon cards, sitting in the bottom of the basket. 1. We don’t sell Pokémon cards… as this is a craft store? And 2. There good cards! A bit worn, but holographic, some EX’s, hell there was even a Snorlax GX (powerful cards for those who aren’t familiar) I call my manager over, and we both just burst out laughing. It was a long night, and this was by far the weirdest thing we had seen. So, I ask him what we should do, since we have no way of contacting this guy, and I kid you not, store policy says we have to put them in the safe, as they are collectibles, and an unknown persons personal belongings. We now have a ziploc baggie of Pokémon cards sitting in our safe.
I used to work in Subway a few years back and I recall making a tuna salad for this one guy. Around twenty minutes later, he storms back in and starts yelling at me that there was a straight, short, blond hair in his salad and he demanded a refund (he was blond and I have curly, dark hair). I started explaining to him that I would have to call one of our managers to get in the store to give him the refund and I couldn't do it myself. He then, in a fit of fury, proceeded to chuck the tuna salad all over me and scream that I was an abomination and deserved the die. Surprisingly, I didn't quit that day.
ive had multiple customers threaten to beat me up. once because our pos system went down and they weren’t able to do waivers online, another time because i told a customer he had to take his shoes off, something he was informed of as soon as he walked in and as he was paying (also i was literally 16 and they were grown men)
One time, after a long weekend at work (6am-8pm with lunch break), I went to meet up with my friends. As i was going around saying hello, one of them say "Good Afternoon" and my mouth just immediately activated with "Thank you! Good Afternoon to you too! Have a good night!"
i’m a 15 year old who volunteered at my local zoo and apart from cleaning and feeding animals I also taught people about them and most importantly handled a snake. So I would put it around their neck or on their hands and stuff and I swear to god the parents are the most annoying things ever😭 like i understand you want a pic of your kid holding a snake but the kid is CRYING he does NOT want to hold the snake please just stop. There was this one time when a kid just dropped the snake on the floor because it ‘bit’ him and the parents said nothing, just stood there……I had to tell the other kids they couldn’t hold it anymore since it was hurt
I have a so many stories. So, I work at a children's place (bouncy houses, laser tag, arcade, etc.) and usually most people just complain about having to fill out a waiver of liability and the price ($15 per kid for the whole day [4-11 hours depending on the season and day but usually at least 8]). One time, this lady came up to me at the front desk to ask if we could refund her kids' tickets a few minutes in because the bouncy house floor wasn't firm enough. I pulled out one of the monitors to check that all the blowers were on and they were, so I asked her to go find the manager. She eventually did find her but not before my other coworker came out of the bouncy house to inform the lady that the entrance is the least firm part (she didn't go past the entrance when she stepped in) and that full-grown adults sink more than children because of weight, so if she wants to go in, she should take that into consideration and find one of the firmer parts inside the bouncy house. The manager came over and she was staring daggers at monitor two, so my manager gave her free admissions tickets because she didn't want to fight the lady, and the lady asked what coworker two's name was so that she could report him. She ended up staying in the place for about 2 more hours after getting the admissions tickets, and my manager told monitor two to not fight the Karens because he would get fired and it wasn't worth it. Another time, a party was supposed to be over at 8 and we closed at 9, so we finished closing the front half of the building and the manager on duty came up to us to tell us that we couldn't leave yet because there were still people upstairs over an hour past their time. They kept being rude to the party manager and refusing to leave, so the shift manager informed them that it was 9 and we were closed for the night, so finally the party leaves, but they leave the place a mess on top of being rude to us, so we all pitch in to clean up. Turns out they LEFT ONE OF THEIR CHILDREN INSIDE and didn't even notice until we informed them that there was still a child wandering around the building. I had to stay almost until 10 to help clean up, but when I did leave, they were all still camped out in the parking lot.
the boutique i used to work at had these decorative plates and there was an example up. a customer asked me to decorate one for her “just like that one” (no idea who did the example but it wasn’t me) despite me not being a decorator and foolishly i tried my best only for her to change her mind and not buy it. she also halfway wrote in a card before deciding she didn’t want it. she BOOKED it out of the store and just left me with this stuff, i had to tell my boss fortunately she wasn’t mad at me
My years in customer service taught me a lot about human behavior. It was a nightmare, at times, but I can’t say I didn’t learn to deal with a wide array of personalities as a result!
I used to work at a Taco Bell and got publically filmed 3 separate times, one time was because one of the dude's taco was cracked, another was because we had to close early, and another was because I wouldn't let somone add 5 items to her order at the window and told her she had to go back around lol
I was working as a barista in high school at our state fair, and two guys came up to order coffees. One was super snappy and ordered an americano, the other guy was clearly embarrassed by americano guy’s demeanor… I brought the correct drink out and he started yelling about how it’s not what he ordered, my supervisor was super nice luckily and dealt with him, so I stepped back. The guy who was accompanying him came back later and apparently this is a common behavior from the guy who yelled to claim the employees were wrong…
I'm so grateful that while we're expected to smile we don't have to be overly chipper, and most customers are fine with normal politeness. I'm a shy person too so I totally get not wanting to bother the workers, especially since I know what a nuisance it can be if they're super busy, but if something wrong please tell us/them. Funny thing is that it's always the nice customers who apologize for being "difficult".
The things I repeat the most as a cashier: "Thank you, have a good one" "Did you scan your rewards card?" "Everything comes off at the end after it's totaled" "I'm sorry, I can't make change" "Would you like me to get my supervisor?"
working in customer service has actually made me less timid when i myself am the customer. like i’ve realized most ppl truly will not care if you send something back. just don’t be a difficult customer and we’ll most likely be way more helpful with what you need.
So I work at a bubble tea shop in the capital city so like it's very popular and busy and there was this one lady that came in with her drink that she ordered whilst there was a rush hour, skipped the line, looked and the cashier and said "this is wrong" and just THREW the drink at my colleague and simply walked out like nothing happened. I hate our customers
We have some retail experience, we can't work long term do to our various disabilities. We were once a cashier. We were fully masked as someone we are not during that job, in order to get it done, we started developing physically intensive panic attacks so painful that we sometimes couldn't move because of how fast and painful our heart was acting around that time, usually the most painful ones were after work. We realized while working that first job, that we were not Cis. Older people kept calling us sir, and we never corrected them, in fact it felt really good, and that's when we realized that we were not the mask who we were pretending to be, and if we did not stop masking our health was going to continue to be awful. Eventually we stopped forcing ourselves to pretend to be someone who we hated for other people's approval. But as a result we cannot work in most 'standard work environments'.
I worked 10 plus years at kohl's.... some good times was when a customer made fun of my stuttering and another when someone thought the fitting room was a bathroom. I feel like this video speaks to me lol.
My favorite horror story to this day is the man who was wearing only 50% of his socks and physically threatened to punch me before storming off and cussing me out simply because it was against company policy to accept a $100 bill 🥴
i've worked various customer service and retail jobs over the past 8 years and my favorite customer interaction was with a older gentleman buying some cds who had asked me for a receipt, but i didn't hear him cause he mumbled it. so i asked him if he would like a receipt and he blew up on me - not entirely sure why? maybe he thought i was mocking him or something but he yelled at me for like 5 minutes while a long line of customers stared at him (ofc i was the only cashier at the time). when he left the register i could literally only take a deep breath, fake a smile, and help the next customer. i then heard him yell at 2 of my managers about me and how rude and uneducated i was in customer service, which he continued for another like 10 minutes and then came BACK up to the register while i was helping another customer and yelled at me for another several minutes. he finally left after pointing his finger in my face and saying "do better next time" 💀 i still work in customer service and everyday brings some new bullshit
I work at McDonald’s in Scotland and I’m super grateful that our managers are 100% on our side and never say shit like ‘the customer is always right’. They always kick people out immediately who abuse staff or throw things around the store.
@@Wud-f2r it’s a very different cultural institution than in the states I’d imagine. Every town in Scotland has one on the high street and they’re honestly treated like as much of a public place as a park or library is. That means crazy teenagers running around next to people on laptops working away next to toddlers in high chairs and police officers stopping by often to keep everyone in check. It’s crazy sometimes but I enjoy working there
@@memstoraty From what I understand the quality of the ingredients is far better outside the states - better beef, less salt, less sweet buns/rolls. Btw, hope to come to Scotland one day. I work in a photo printing department at my job and we have these computers where you can upload the photos on your phone to the computer by scanning a qr code, but there's a lot of older people that want photos printed out (the majority I'd say) that means I spend a lot of my time helping set up these photo orders for them, and this older couple came in (roughly early 70s) and the man gave me permission ahead of time to just take his phone and walk him through the process and he was your standard; text font to the max, max brightness, 99+ chrome tabs and didn't know what "settings" and "wifi" was. What stood out is when I went to chrome to scan the qr code it was open on his tab list, which including "18+ videos" with such categories like "femdom" and "milf" (there were more of these tabs that I couldn't see, but obviously I'm not gonna check them). When I saw this it legitimatly left me in a state of shock for a few seconds and when I saw the tabs the old couple were less than 2 metres away from me looking at frames for the photo they were getting, oblivious to what I discovered.

"Some customers have a sense of entitlement" thats so true tbh.
Omg Kanae’s in the chat 😨
@@nuggetlikestodraw Me rn: 💀
Please take care of yourself and make sure to get plenty of rest and look after your health, both mental and physical.
@@dinoheartnerd2265 thank you
if someone told me they were a paying customer i'd probs say "well i don't get paid enough for this bullshit"
This happens so often, a phrase gets shortened and people use it for something that means the complete opposite lol
This makes so much more sense than whatever it's become today, definitely

I think how people treat others in the service industry says a lot about their character and I wish people could have the decency to treat others with respect no matter what kind of industry they may work in
Literally, so many people judge service industry workers, ("You don't want to work at McDonald's do you??" 🙄) but if those people worked other jobs, who's gonna serve them then? People love to complain but it just doesn't work without them, someone has to do it, and we should appreciate that, if we ourselves don't want to work in that field.
@leah.000 no THIS because I'm so hard on myself when I'm slightly rude to someone ever but I see people out here yelling at their waiter like WHY 💀😭😭
I think it's such a good tell on a first date if your date treats the staff poorly or is super entitled, it's an immediate red flag. It shows how they really treat people they're not trying to please.
I can always tell when someone comes up to my counter if they've worked customer service before, you can ALWAYS tell

The fact she tried to call "someone older" just to probably get told the same thing that you told her. 🙄🙄
The fact that she thinks someone older must be more experienced is hilarious

Being the tolerant person I am, I told her I'd check her out if she put the closed sign at the end so nobody else came through. She obliged. I then spent the next seven minutes trying to get this woman to use a fucking EBT card.
The total was higher than the balance and she needed stuff taken off. The convo went like this:
"Well what do I do now? I don't know what to do, I don't work here!"
"You need to pick items to void so you can use the card."
"Which ones?"
FYM 'which ones'?? That's YOUR choice.
She just kept saying "I don't know that's your job" when I asked what to void. I finally got her to choose. All good, right?
This bitch hits me with "You know, you're not very *friendly* when you're trying to get out of here."
???????????
And that's not even the full interaction. I didn't get into how she refused to believe I checked the balance on her card instead of just making the purchase, or that it wasn't even her card at all. It was her *friend's,* and she was getting stuff for them. I deadass have no idea what I could've done to avoid that situation. She refused to cooperate with me and wouldn't explain what she was upset about. But the audacity of her to tell me I'm "not being friendly" when It's 5:07 and I want to leave is fuckin crazy.

Being raised on the internet by trolls and alpha male podcasters is a recipe for disaster.
i am one of those mcdonald’s workers that can’t hide their exhausted face anymore. however when someone asks me for help/tells me something was wrong in their order (politely) i switch my voice so quickly. i really felt seen in that sketch lmaoooo
at my location i have to wear a mask so im very glad because i never have to smile 😭
😃😃😃" with my pitch turned way up. hahaha
Sometimes if a customer is just generally being a cool person, I end up losing the customer service voice and then jumping back into it is so wild
Was she on drugs? 😂
I work as a hairdresser and oh god, the amount of customers who walk in and think they're right no matter what we tell them is insane.. especially when karens come in thinking that they can do x thing and im just like ma'am. this is impossible on ur hair. what am i supposed to do??? bruh
the amount of karen stories i have is never ending (:
I am sorry to hear that, I hope you are taking care of yourself as much as possible.
When I worked retail, I used to keep a tally every year of how many christmases I'd "ruined"
What's your high score lol?
I work at a pet store and we have a grooming department in our store that is SEPARATE from us. They are a company all of their own. And one day a guy got mad because he thought the groomers were abusing his dog(they weren’t) and he go so mad he was screaming at everyone and then he pulled a gun out.. on the cashiers (I was one of them) we promptly called the cops and he was arrested. Costumer service is a great job🙃
"the customer is always right" ok well so are the literal workers
Working at a coffee shop and having had a client literally scream at me because my coworker gave her thr wrong receipt..costumers are almost never right:) and yes,old people truly dont have good manners (as costumers)
That is so horrible and I am really sorry you have had to go through that. Neither you, nor anyone else working a job of this kind, deserves such treatment. Please take care of yourself.
So true! i feel like so many people feel like we are magicians. Like Ma'am/sir you are in a McDonalds.
lmaooo i have a shirt that says that😭
I work in customer service and here’s my favorite horror story:
A lady in the drive through tried to hit me with her car because the line was too long.
I love Emily’s little skits their so funny 😭
👻🐳
"Bitch thats mold" had me in tears
The robotic way she was moving in the third one moving was hilarious 😭
Seriously I love her acting out all these characters 😭
I hate how much the service industry enables bad customer behavior, as a service worker
customer service has genuinely gotta be one of the worst jobs out there idk how yall do it

Depression and spite
honestly just to keep busy and for laughs, but lord can some people make you feel like a dumbass when upper management sides with the customer just to avoid conflict, especially when you're in the right.
honestly, people should be taught in schools how to behave as a customer (and in public in general) cuz clearly some of y’all’s parents never told you how to treat other humans like… humans
There's nothing like asking people what they want to order and them just staring blankly at you like you grew a second head or get mad at you for trying to take their basically empty plate after they utterly ignored you asking if they were done, like I'm not a robot that can just stand here waiting for you to make up your mind
They already teach us how to be kind and stuff
@@Miomiothethegreatgreatyeah but some people just treat customer service workers differently. like I’ve served a customer who lives in the same area as me and then interacted with them in a different context and the difference is insane. it’s like when you step behind the register you just become 1/2 a person to them lol
@@sophie.liri. Yeah it’s really weird
In my experience as a customer, I find that when I'm nice to the employees, they're more willing to help me
It’s so refreshing to have nice customers, at least in my experience it’s a little rejuvenating and it of course feels nice to have people be kind and treat us like actual people.
Yeah pretty much everyone except for restaurant owners agrees that people should just be paid enough to begin with
The only way to fix that is for the government to mandate service workers be paid at least the standard minimum wage like all other industries, since the federal minimum wage for tipped workers currently is only _$2.13 an hour._ But that won't happen because restaurant lobbies have a lot of money to bribe- I mean lobby politicians with, to make sure they'll never have to pay their workers properly
Especially those helping you, or those vulnerable.
not me seeing this as soon as i got home from an interview for a customer service job
*sigh*
Other than that, most customers are pretty chill. Keyword most.

The infamous saying originally was actually ''the customer is always right in matters of taste" which makes A LOT more sense than the well known version.
People who have to put up with these kind of people need a higher pay bro-
I'll let my boss know!
I heard that the phrase "the customer is always right" is actually an incomplete quote which actually says "the customer is always right in their choice of style", referring to their choice of clothing. I think the guy who originally said it was the owner of a hat store or something way back when.
I thought it was “in matters of taste” but the sentiment stays the same
Yeah you right@@fractalisomega9517
Some people wake up decide to go to a store or a restaurant and be a menace
I'm temporarily working at a drugstore and most customers are truly sweet and reciprocate my kind and cheerful attitude but some are just straight up rude for no reason 😅
I used to work tech support and customer service for 5+ years and let me tell you, it left me with serious PTSD from the constant customer abuse and made me actively scared of finding better paying work for fear of dealing with customers again.
my main job is tech support/customer service at the moment... i feel you man :')
once i leave this job i never want to do customer service again
That’s so terrible! But sometimes I do find it funny that these “adults” if you even want to call them that, act like children
ive had multiple customers threaten to beat me up. once because our pos system went down and they weren’t able to do waivers online, another time because i told a customer he had to take his shoes off, something he was informed of as soon as he walked in and as he was paying (also i was literally 16 and they were grown men)

The robotic movement for the customer service voice was so on point omg
The full quote is “the customer is always right about their preferences” I believe.
the boutique i used to work at had these decorative plates and there was an example up. a customer asked me to decorate one for her “just like that one” (no idea who did the example but it wasn’t me) despite me not being a decorator and foolishly i tried my best only for her to change her mind and not buy it. she also halfway wrote in a card before deciding she didn’t want it. she BOOKED it out of the store and just left me with this stuff, i had to tell my boss fortunately she wasn’t mad at me

"Thank you, have a good one"
"Did you scan your rewards card?"

"Would you like me to get my supervisor?"

“the customer is always right” is an incorrect sentence, however “emily is always right” is absolutely correct 👍
Ive always disliked the comments saying “these ads are the only ones I watch!” BUT BRO ur ads are SO GOOD
I worked 10 plus years at kohl's.... some good times was when a customer made fun of my stuttering and another when someone thought the fitting room was a bathroom. I feel like this video speaks to me lol.
I’m sorry but they thought the fitting room was the bathroom? …. I’m afraid to ask
I literally just clocked out from an 11 hour long shift at the restaurant I work at when I got this notification. Beautiful timing.
My favorite horror story to this day is the man who was wearing only 50% of his socks and physically threatened to punch me before storming off and cussing me out simply because it was against company policy to accept a $100 bill 🥴
Your sponsorships are the only ones I don’t skip 😂😂😂😂
i've worked various customer service and retail jobs over the past 8 years and my favorite customer interaction was with a older gentleman buying some cds who had asked me for a receipt, but i didn't hear him cause he mumbled it. so i asked him if he would like a receipt and he blew up on me - not entirely sure why? maybe he thought i was mocking him or something but he yelled at me for like 5 minutes while a long line of customers stared at him (ofc i was the only cashier at the time). when he left the register i could literally only take a deep breath, fake a smile, and help the next customer. i then heard him yell at 2 of my managers about me and how rude and uneducated i was in customer service, which he continued for another like 10 minutes and then came BACK up to the register while i was helping another customer and yelled at me for another several minutes. he finally left after pointing his finger in my face and saying "do better next time" 💀 i still work in customer service and everyday brings some new bullshit
THE COSTUMER SERVICE VOICE-CHARACTER IS SO TRUE.
I work at McDonald’s in Scotland and I’m super grateful that our managers are 100% on our side and never say shit like ‘the customer is always right’. They always kick people out immediately who abuse staff or throw things around the store.
I am somehow saddened that there are McDonald’s in Scotland…
Have Glaswegian area ancestors from 4 or 5 generations back. I’d like to visit the Orkneys…in Summer of course. And of course the rest of the country, it looks so lovely.
@@Wud-f2r Oh yeah. Look at the Food Insider video that compares the two countries. US fries are insane for example. I've been to the States before, no intention to go back lol. Scotland is great though and we'd love to have you come visit us!
Haha the robotic act was hilarious! I swear I feel like a robot whenever I've worked as a cashier
“The customer is always right” is a common phrase, but rarely finished by its original conclusion, “in matters of taste”
Ive always preferred when cashiers and stuff are more monotone and actually act like a regular person, rather than being unnaturally happy. It makes it awkward when im saying the same 3 words snd shaking my head yes when they're trying to make small talk
