If every truck, 4WD, AWD, SUV, CUV, Crossover, whatever was included in the competition, you all would have been there for weeks. It's mind-bogging how many of these cars are now available on the market. Lastly, KIA and Hyundai are the ones to watch!
Hyundai/Genesis cleaning up with the accolades - surprising but then not, love what they’re doing with their product lines including Kia. Looks like an enjoyable time; thanks for the great reviews as always! 🔥
Since you mentioned it, you're definitely succinct and I appreciate it. Videos always feel like a good length and as if you've covered everything without droning on.
Well done review. The near top and top finishes for the Hyundai Tucson & Santa Cruz was nice to see. Hyundai has been making steady progress, including updates to address overheating with the DCT. As for the GV80 getting top spot, not really surprised as it quite a vehicle. :-)
And the GV70 from Genesis is another Hyundai group winner. Makes me anxious to get my SC this week! It's arriving at my dealer this afternoon and I'm getting just a LITTLE twitchy about finally seeing Sage Grey in person! Test drove a black one a few weeks ago when they got their demo in. LOVE that thing!
I don't. I just wipe it down occasionally and then fully afterwards. Pro gear is sealed well. And I used my iPhone in the area where it was really dusty.
Tom, normally your policy of 'short' 'succinct' videos is a blessing. But in this case, man I would love to see a long version. Where you give each car a 20-point breakdown. (The same 20 points for each vehicle. On-road handling, off-road handling, features, green lights, yellow lights, red lights, etc etc)...
Sitting in a Wagoneer at the All-Iowa Auto Show this past June broke my brain. Now that I know those exist, I have a new Aspirational Vehicle to shoot for (once they come out with the hybrid version).
It's a tweener I believe (much like the GV80 that's larger than the RX, similar to the awkward L). And the 70 is good enough that it might lure buyers to a slightly smaller vehicle.
Thanks for another nice video. I sneezed while wearing a mask in a taxi & did not spread my germs around the gal's car. Masks are good for lots of things like cars.
Earlier this year I watched a wild boar hunt in Italy. On country tracks I wouldn't expect a mule to pass a 25 year old Mahindra passed like a pro. It's the driver that matters as much as the vehicle.
Two thoughts: Jeep completely dropped the ball on the potential for the Wagoneer design There’s nearly $30k in difference between the top two midsize entrants. That’s… not how brackets are supposed to work
Are you talking the different between regular Wagoneer and Grand? Jeep brought a Grand for us to look at but not compete. It was Range Rover quality inside.
@@DrivenCarReviews nah, midsize/full-size family. How the 392 walked away from the Bronco. It’s truly not a relevant comparison. The 392 is more expensive than the luxury winner.
I wish you could have spent more time on the individual winners. I was surprised the Prime took overall winner in its class. But you were unable to say why.
@@DrivenCarReviews Cool.I’ll try to watch that. But we’re playing Pickle Ball later than usual so you can use my statement today for a question tomorrow perhaps.😊
I am DYING to know how the Jeep beat the Bronco... (I don't own a Jeep because the cabin is so cramped. At 6'-4" my knees hit the dash, my head hits the roof, and I found the seats to be sooo narrow - which alone makes the Jeep a loser for me. I've 'heard' the Bronco has more human size seating...) Dish with the details Tom...
Everyone voted electronically and I'm not privy to the details. I know that voting was VERY close. That said, this was a 2-door Bronco so that might have had something to do with it. I don't notice the Jeep being substantially smaller than the Ford FYI.
I have trouble giving the award to a vehicle that can take dirt no better than my parents 1973 Pontiac station wagon. The Genesis is a great vehicle, but the sport and utility aspect of these rankings is pretty low.
I don’t trust the results, sorry! Of course the press is going to hype up the new products instead of the “tried and true”. I would never want to get caught in a snowstorm driving to work on icy roads in one of those GV70s with low profile tires. Do a winter test with winter tires on all these vehicles going up a mountain pass and y’all might have some credibility. I’m sure it was a fun day at the park though!
Really, a Genesis? With the low profile tires, I can’t imagine it will perform that well anywhere but on pavement….and the Hyundai? Sigh….ok, you guys are the pros, I appreciate your input…
I was also surprised, figuring the Jeep would catch up on day 2 during the off road driving. But the GV70 was better than expected on the easier course and REALLY good on day 1. Not the equal of the Jeep off road of course but good enough to eek out a win.
@@DrivenCarReviews Obviously the compromises Hyundai makes in their vehicles are in the right places to make a great overall package vs. resting on a couple of individual strengths to the sacrifice of other areas. They won't beat the Wranglers and Broncos at rock crawling, but they aren't supposed to either. ;)
Outdoor activity vehicle of the year goes to a vehicle that's about as urban as it gets. Best pickup goes to a vehicle that can hardly carry anything... What a pointless test??
The Hyundies nearly busted a rim and flattened a tire going over those logs haha. There is also multiple videos of Hyundies and Kias with failing overheating transmissions and shutting down stranding the driver over similar, weak terrain. After five mins. 🙄 They also smell like cheese inside.
This event is nothing but a pr stunt for manufacturers us half those suvs and crossovers could never do anything real in the way of off roading ... why do journalists go to these? How can you do a fair report and review when you’re being sweet talked by the maker of the vehicle???
You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. This event is put on by NWAPA, a press association. A lot of members, including myself put a lot of hours into making this event happen. It costs us a lot of money. Manufacturer's reps are invited to attend so we can ask them questions to make sure we are making the right decisions. And you are wrong about off roading. Many of these vehicle are much more capable that you think, certainly more than most owners will ever test. Not all are intended to go hit severe terrain and are judged accordingly. And if a writer can't tell the difference between PR sweet talk and the actual capability and features of a vehicle, they don't deserve to be in this business.
Great video Tom, sorry we couldn't make MudFest this year. Your video is just like being there... without choking on real dust.
:D
Swear to God, I was coughing that stuff up two days after. Say hi to Steven for me.
Agree on the Genesis.

Last year was the the first time I bought a Kia, never thought years ago I would ever even consider buying a Hyundai/Kia/Genesis but here we are.
Rule #1 of life -- never buy a Hyundai or Kia.

So good to connect at the event. The video came out amazing. Top-notch work all around. Catch you at the next one. Cheers...
This is really useful because my nearest Costco is in the middle of the woods

Great breakdown and coverage of the event. Though I was just out planting trees so I feel bad for the firs or spruce that lined the off road section.
Keep up the great work!
The map on the Tacoma hood must be there for nostalgic purposes. A more up to date one would feature Tijuana or Guanajuoto.
Well... the namesake is Tacoma. Not that the street are so bad you'll need 4WD for commuting there.
Awesome video. Thanks!
Nice job, as usual. Behind-the-scenes question: What do you do to keep all that dust and grit off your gear?
I don't. I just wipe it down occasionally and then fully afterwards. Pro gear is sealed well. And I used my iPhone in the area where it was really dusty.

Impossible to do. Too many vehicles, way too little time. I'm just one guy.
Subarus: “dont mind us. Just happy to be here”
From what I understand, the voting was VERY close across the board. The Subaru was an excellent vehicle off road. And roomy.

Nicely done Tom!
What does having wrist bands mean?
Full access to snacks
Is the Genesis GV70 a Lexus RX competitor as Tom states, or an NX? (I think it's the latter).

Would be fun to attend this event, even as a ride along…..
Mud Fest is my favorite Video every year!
Please can you reviews the Mercedes benz c class new model
Great job, as usual
Thanks 😊
GV70!! Solidify my decision!!
very nice video
Given that Land Rover can't keep defenders in stock, I'm guessing they didn't have one to spare.
Nice! I've wanted to wander over that way and see if there is any room for spectators he he . . . can I get hired to come along next year, Tom?
Sorry, it's a closed event. Hence the wristbands.

This one ran the off road course for 6 hours straight and did none of the things you claim. So there's that. And no cheese smell.
The jumbled nature of this video it’s just too much for my brain to handle. Would love to see the vehicle reviews by segment
why did i bother to look at a site that last time listed the last champ as the kia telluride!

You obviously haven't driven a Telluride.
You lost credibility with me Bruh, when you made the Hyundai best pick up of the year. Sorry can't ride with that

Personally I find the Santa Cruz to be extremely ugly. Reminds me of the first generation of the Honda ridgeline.
I think the Santa Cruz is attractive. It reminds me a lot of the 1982-84 Dodge Rampage.
