Not surprising Jeep scored so high, especially in off road driving. Another award Jeep generally wins consistently....One of the most unreliable vehicle brands you can buy.
...for as unreliable as they (Jeeps in general) seem to be (or talked about anyway); I never really see any of them on the shoulders of I-75/I-70 up here near Dayton, OH....and let me tell you, the Wrangler Unlimited is the Midwest Mom Taxi of choice, they are everywhere, all colors and usually modded to look nice in the Costco parking lot
My sister just leased a new 2022 Jeep and after 3 months with it, she's ready to return it. Nothing but problems with it. Most unreliable brand behind maybe Land Rover.
@@kokopuffs5789...so there more or less driveway problems? We have a friend w/a 15 Cherokee and it was diagnosed w/a $8k transmission fix ; but it's a 7yo vehicle. It still drives, but on band-aid remedies. We test drove several (mid trim) 21 GC and Wranglers and things seemed ok. Are the issues 6 months after it's out of the showroom?
This is true, overall. And not just Jeep but Chrysler products in general. I hear nothing but bad things about them. However, I'm curious about whether the 4xe variants will actually be better. If making these products better and more reliable involves turning them into electric vehicles, I'm all for it because I do kind of like them but I will never buy a Jeep/Chrysler as they are today.
I always wait every year for this comparison.. Yours this year, Tom, was my first video of them all. Glad I watched it.. great content, as always, Sir. Too bad(Or glad, depending on how you view things) there isn't a Costco near by, as I'd hate to miss out on which TRUCK/SUV had the better TP test.. lol
I was looking forward to your coverage of this year's Mudfest and you absolutely did not disappoint! Great review and coverage, Tom!! Keep up the great work!!
Seems as though it was only yesterday when the last MudFest was posted - definitely enjoyed viewing this one as the last one. Dope (review) as always! 🔥
11:23 I think that statement is so true. Pretty much all vehicles built today are good. No bad cars or trucks are made now. Everything starts, everything works and sure there are a few out of 100 that have issues but these are mechanical marvals put together by machine and man. Give em a break. You try putting together a 1 million + piece lego set. And have trouble free driving out of it!
Guess reliability and build quality don't play a role at all with the Jeep Grand Cherokee winning awards. Go read the owner forums for the new GC/GCL and the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer. They are godawful. More problems at launch than any new cars I've seen in 30+ years following new car launches. Just typical FCA junk. Electrical gremlins galore. There are a ton of pissed off owners of these new Jeeps.
Reliability is a tricky subject in car reviews. It's obviously an extremely important metric that plays a significant role in actual car purchases, but it's also ever-changing and can vary. To give examples, some cars have broken streaks of unreliability & become reliable after refreshes/updates (newer Dodge Chargers/Challengers, 3-Series with B48/B58), while others have gone from excellent to poor within a generation (Volvos once they switched to 2.0L i4T's, and 2015+ MB C-Class'es). I agree that reliability should be a metric in these rankings, but it's challenging as any changes involve different sets of data.
...that is why most ppl lease Jeeps. Use them, but never past the warranty period. I can only imagine that the high number of gladiators in my area are all leases; and if not all, then about 90% are leased. Of course I have no proof to support this, but ppl want the status and not the car payment, so a lease gets you both in a round about way....
Glad to see the Rolls Royce product can hold its own on such rigorous course. Just need move some money from saving to checking and pick one up. I even like the color…
I can tell you that I'm in close contact with the agencies that supply the cars and all of them said there were no issues when it came to wear and tear. So there's that. Few of them will ever see duty the way we pushed them.
Thanks Tom. Hhmmmm, "value" and a $64k Grand Cherokee TH 4Xe don't really belong on the same sentence; unless my definition of "value" is different from a bunch of auto journalists. I like how Volvo showed everyone else their meatballs by bringing the V90-cc and showing everyone that longroofs (wagons) are still cool. CX-50 is impressive and might replace our CX-5, unless the wife wants to just go the full monty with the CX-9. Had thought about a Grand Cherokee....but I can't get it in orange.
I had a dream last night that i hopped in a F pace that you were also front passenger. The Car went to the harbor and then went back. You then paid the fare and then i talked about paying back my share haha. Anyway. The fun part is that i would imagine the ride in my dream should be pretty accurate with a a real F Pace that i never ridden before.
Wondering how the MDX Type S is up against the GV70 and not the GV80? The MDX is larger than the GV80? I'm thinking if you put it against the GV80 it beats it.
Me too. Let's just say I didn't place the vehicles in their categories. The Acura has a lot of fine qualities over the 80 that might make it a better choice for some, like a much more usable 3rd row and SH-AWD torque vectoring. Buy the vehicle that works for you.
Probably that’s why they didn’t put it up against the GV80 because the MDX is the clear winner between the two. They literally compete in the same segment and cost around the same amount of money, but they decided to compare a 3 row 70k+ suv to genesis’s 2 row 60k suv instead of genesis’s 70k+ 2/3 row suv.
@@theyadmire511 100% agree! I seriously cross shopped the two and thought the TypeS was much better. I felt the GV80 was very one dimensional and the TypeS had different personalities based on the drive mode selection. I just thought the TypeS had a better overall driving experience. I also think the TypeS looks better but that's just a personal opinion.

Tom, I hope you've come around to how awesome the new tundra's look. (In one of your prior reviews you weren't quite sure). I've seen them in person and I think I was right, best looking full size by far....
...all are at the bottom of the ocean. MDX A-spec would have lost to the Macan (Turbo), and the others to the Cayenne GTS. I guess they aren't new enough or the mfgr didn't provide a vehicle for testing. What about the VW Atlas Crossport? No BMW SUV or large MB SUV either
Where in the U.S. one would be tackling such roads on a daily basis? If one has to visit a specially constructed obstacle trail for such a terrain, then aren't SUVs and crossovers overengineered for daily use and are just a fancier form of a dune buggy?
...actually, they are a fancier form of a wagon. If you look at all of them; they are all wagons, (long roofs) but the term "SUV" sounds better. Some/most have the same ride height as cars 5"-7.5". But now, 8"+ seems to be the new rage and some cars are even getting 8" of ground clearance too; just so they are less "wagon-like".
Hyundai and Genesis are rated higher in reliability than Mazda according to JD Power. Ford is a little less than Mazda and Jeep brings up the rear but Mazda doesn't make heavy duty 4x4 vehicles.
I noticed a Cullinan for sale in Germany. Tungsten grey with black pack. Normal size wheels. And dark interior. It looked surprisingly good and appealing. The orange one...what were they thinking? Bad mistake by RR people.
Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe??? This hybrid Is not a "winner" by any means: The benefit of a hybrid vehicle begins to drop off as the GVW exceeds 2 tons. Once this happens it declines rapidly until it reaches a point of futility, as with this vehicle. The difference between the JGC and the JGC 4xe is one more mile per gallon. Not worthy of a hybrid drive train. Jeep needs to be more responsible by selecting only those vehicles whose GVW makes it pragmatic.
What a joke of scoring. No mention of price and reliability. Full pick up truck vs small suv in offroad capability. So what about Subaru? Saw it on the clip once or twice but nobody test driven it during the event?
Price was definitely one of the criteria on the judging forms. Pickups were in their own category. Reliability is becoming less and less of an issue as quality improves across the board (though it was in the back of our minds as we scored). Everyone drove the Subaru, the fact that I did or didn't show a particular vehicle means nothing.
I'll guess you can only get all these vehicles by "inviting" the reps also, but it seems counter intuitive to have them there for a "competition." And was that Engineering Explained I saw?
