A great wrap up to the year presented with the same civil, affable, common sense that makes your reviews such a pleasure as well as islands of respite in the Year of Barely Living (aren't you lucky to be so amusingly occupied, BTW). Thanks for reviews, Tom, and for representing our region so well.
Tom, you’re the best! Great content, ton of humor, crisp photography! May 2022 add subscribers to your channel and a Taycan GTS grace your driveway! Happy New Year! 🎊🎆🎈
Thanks for all of the consistent, quality content over the years and being yourself when I met you at the car show. Onward to 2022 with you and Mr. Campbell.
Managed to get back to Seattle after two years only to be snowed in by the coldest weather in 31 years. Was expecting to see you all bundled up only to find that you have escaped to the Big Island! Smart move. Fortunately, I head out to the Big Island too next week. Looking forward to more excellent reviews in 2022.
Surprised but not surprised to see the Defender in your Top 11. We were all set to punch the ticket for a RR Sport and saw it on the delivery truck at Dealer. Been loving it since February and have took it on a few road trips. I had a 2019 RAM 1500 Limited prior (not towing boat now) which I will say is the best driving truck I've ever owned. The Defender is a close 2nd. Planning a family trip to Hawaii in June now. Thank you for your channel. Happy New Year!
Tom, thank you again for the consistent professionalism, content, and humor of your reviews. I thoroughly enjoy them and have recommended you to so many friends. As for my selection, after driving several sporty cars and waiting almost 2 years, about 8 months and 6000 miles ago, my Z51 C8 convertible arrived. It has performed flawlessly including a 3500 mile road trip and turns heads every time I take it out. A delight to drive in cruising mode with rocket ship performance at the touch of the “Z” button. So my thoughts for someone who loves to drive and wanting a Bronco or a 911 or anything that suits their dream: play with the Configurator, spec out what YOU want, and order it from a reputable dealer who won’t play games on delivery. If you enjoy driving as much as Tom and I’m certain anyone following his so appreciated work, the wait will absolutely be worth it. Tom, thank you again for providing your followers with so much insight and fun!
Another fine video. I was able to guess quite a few of your choices. Before even starting it I knew a Taycan GTS Sport Turismo was probably going to appear. And if you hadn't said anything about using your iPhone I wouldn't have noticed--the video quality was fine (though after you mentioned it I did think the audio was a bit less clear than usual). Enjoy Hawaii! I used to live in Honolulu & love it there.
C'mon Tom. Sitting here on an island in the Puget Sound where the temp is 20 degrees, watching you in Hawaii is cruel and unusual punishment. I'm struggling to find fault with your selections but I'm coming up empty. I'd only add a few honorable mentions or potential substitutions. Chief among them are the numerous vehicles from Hyundai/KIA/Genesis that are fitted with the new 2.5L turbo4 engine. At my last count, the Korean automakers are offering it either as standard or optional in at least NINE vehicles. In every case the reviews range from positive to glowing. My favorite would be the GT-Line Stinger with a 0-60 time of 5-5.5 seconds and an MSRP under $41,000 when fitted with AWD. My least favorites would be the KIA K5 GT and Hyundai Sonata N-Line that have the same engine as the Stinger but lack either an LSD or AWD to put the 300+ HP and torque to the pavement. It's unclear whether the petrol powered Stinger will survive KIA's transition to performance models sporting batteries but I hope it does. In any event, I'm looking forward to the US introduction of the R-Line VW Arteon with greater performance for 2022. Choosing between it and the GT-Line Stinger will be an interesting task. I never seem to be at a lifestyle stage to purchase a true sports car. But with my daughter heading off to college in a year and a half, I might be able to consider either a BRZ or a GR86. I've lusted after a Miata for years but could never justify a vehicle that couldn't accommodate at least myself, my spouse, and our big dog. The tiny "plus 2" rear seat of the Toyota/Subaru twins won't match the back seat of my GTI but my dog won't mind. I'm scheming to send the GTI off to college and to finally have a descendant of a true British sports car that rekindles the experience of my 240Z from years ago. On the SUV front, as a Sorento owner I was disappointed to see KIA eliminate a second row bench in every model above the lowest trims where the 2.5L turbo isn't available either. That decision is a deal breaker for our family if we begin looking for a replacement for our top trim 2018 Sorento. As far as the Mach-E is concerned, the fact that it's apparently outselling every other version of the Mustang suggests that the "performance" segment will soon be the exclusive playground of EVs. Personally, I find the Hyundai Ioniq5 more appealing and I'm waiting for a detailed comparison with its sibling, the KIA EV6 that will show up in the US in 2022. Your choice of the Hyundai Tucson in the compact SUV category is understandable. But there, too, I'll be interested to see what KIA offers in its new generation Sportage, the Tucson's sibling. As far as the Maverick is concerned, all I can say is that Ford may have lost its magic in terms of sedans but they certainly understand how to design trucks. I'm not surprised to see the Maverick sold out for all of 2022. Its fleet sales alone will dwarf the total sales of the Hyundai Santa Cruz rival. I have an acquaintance who has four Maverick's on order for his residential construction firm to supplement his fleet of F150's. By his estimate he'll cut his annual fuel costs nearly in half with hybrid Mavericks substituting for full size pickups for local deliveries and crew transportation. I'm not a "truck guy" but I'd have to agree that if any vehicle deserves an award as "Vehicle of the Year," it's the Maverick. Hope you're still enjoying the surf and palm trees in Hawaii and you can avoid returning to Seattle for at least another week or so when our temps return to a habitable range.
Great list, Tom! Really surprising, but cool to see that the Hyundai Motor Group and Ford took more than half of the Top 11 for '21. Those two companies have been knocking it out of the park recently. I took your recommendation and bought my first Ford this year. Hope to see you at the EA station at Freddy's some time!
Nicely done, as usual, Tom -- and no need to apologize for video quality. Your iPhone more than acquitted itself. You made my day by including the Maverick. My Hybrid is due to arrive (supposedly) in March. Also appreciate the broad range of vehicles you covered.
Thanks for all the great videos in 2021, Tom! I enjoyed them all - even if I wasn't interested in the vehicle being reviewed. Here's to more great videos in 2022😁🥂 Happy New Year to you and all vehicle lovers out there, in advance! 🥳
Mr. Voelk. Thank you for your videos, (WITH A TOM VOELK VOICE: and I subscribe by the way) and I appreciate your sense humor. You're on vacation and it's the holiday season. Ok, Time to wrap this up!!! 🚦👍 Green light: You make excellent quality car review videos and you're consistency is unmatched (even on vacation!!🙂) 🌕 Yellow light: I wish you'd had given us a top 12 personal best car review video (with baker's dozen 13) That way you could have included more vehicles. 🚨 Red Light: Dude!!! you're on vacation!!! Tom, I didn't realize you had such a mean streak.. I mean a "Hawaiian moment of zen" while your home state of WA is averaging highs in the low teens!?!? Brutal man, brutal...
As far as the Corvette is concerned Chevrolet's original plan was base model followed by Z06 at around 650 to 700 HP then followed by ZR1 at around 800 HP and finally the Zora hybrid at around 1000 HP . It will be interesting to see what really makes it .
Crappy year, with some great car introductions. Ford worked especially hard & I hope the on-going chip shortage doesn't sell them short. Your exemplary road test presentations makes this a dozen great accomplishments for the year.
Aloha Tom! 🤙 As you read these sweet comments and enjoy your vacation, just know your fans LOVE you and we are all so grateful for all the effort you put into your channel. Go lay on some of that black sand and enjoy the Hawaiian vibes! 🧘♂️ 🏖 🌈
Can someone show me where you can actually get a C8 corvette for anywhere near its base price of $62k or just even MSRP? New and used are getting marked up $20-30k over sticker… add the fact that GM is prioritizing 3LT’s on the assembly line, you have $90k+ cars being marked up to $120-130k… It’s an incredible car even considering GM’s spotty reliability record, but at $130k it’s not quite the bargain it’s being presented as. I ask this as a current C7 Z06 owner looking to trade into a C8. Thanks.
Great choices on the year-end review, just wish Ford would fix the Mach-E interior with a different tablet design like in the gas Latin American version. Btw, just curious if you edited this 4k video on you're MacBook?
Happy New Year Tom and thank you for doing what you do! Please eat a bowl for me at Da Poke Shack and some loco moco at Cafe 100. Aloha and Howdy from Texas!

You're in Hawaii? Did you rent a Hyundai Kona while you were there? The Maverick is cool and I have yet to see one on the road. The local dealership has none to offer for a test drive. I can only dream about a Taycan. The GR-86 is great too but only as a second car or one for the college kids. I'd take the Santa Cruz over the Tucson easy-peasy. Telluride (like most large SUVs) just doesn't do it for me. Maybe if I had two or three kids. GV80 is just well-done and lust-worthy, but I would take the smaller one. GV60? Not sure. The Defender just scares me with the reliability record of the brand. Looks fabulous though. The Bronco (like the Maverick) is just perfect for what it is. The Mach-E is a good product but I just don't really care the styling. Glad it's selling regardless. The Civic is really nice too, better than it has to be, and that's good news for budget-minded buyers that want a great car that is worth more than its MSRP. The C-8 is a design that could have been great. Impressive performance numbers but the design looks badly proportioned and the interior is just trying too hard. Great video summary!
