I did my best to go as in depth as I could and cover all of the most important aspects of each game so you’re able to determine which game fits your play style the best! I’m SURE I forgot some things, so don’t hesitate to let me know what I missed. I hope you guys enjoyed this video and hopefully it helps some of you make a decision! ❤️
I do hope both games thrive and the more skate games the better. I do hope easy day continues working on the mechanics of skater xl though.. I just don’t like the lack of gravity, phantom catch or the vanilla sounds of skater xl. It’s so exciting to see creature listening to their community and communicating. They are killing it and that’s where I think easy day is really falling short at the moment. I just don’t enjoy vanilla skater xl in its current state
yo garrett you covered a lot of topics between the two games but what about customization with board components like wheels, decks, risers, trucks, etc - as well as primo, caspers, darkslides? great videos as always keep em comin!
for console, skater xl is the gateway drug. once you get into it, session is way more fun and rewarding. we will just have to see how both games progress in the future.
Skater XL died the day they finally announced that the game wasn't fully finished..... I don't think it'll be finished anytime soon session is the better game hands down
I agree, I played vanilla XL for a year before recently trying out Session and I'm more hooked on Session now. I just wish there was a mod menu on XL just to remove that moon gravity lol
Here is the major thing to consider when comparing Skater XL to Session - SXL has been released. Session is still in testing. Session will still get exponentially better. SXL may get some new maps or some minor new feature at best.
@@Oooo-ms9df session has better controls. Skater is just pointlessly easy, last time I went on it I pressed diagonally up and right and he Ollie's and did a flip and landed it...honestly fuck that.
@@PsychoNinjaFlea Session does the same thing unless you use manual catch, so what's the difference? Session is only hard because of the clunky skating physics. I want a challenge too, but when I fail because of the jank and not because I made a mistake, it takes away the enjoyment of the challenge. At that point you're fighting janky skating, not your lack of practice. Creature needs to get onto making the skating more fluid and responsive to take it up a notch. This last update was a major improvement, but more needs to be done. I think it would be cool if Creature Studios could look into making the skateboard physics-based like Skater XL because the amount of flip variation that can be applied to the board in Skater XL is what sets itself apart from Session (IMO of course). The mo-capped flip tricks look amazing and all that, but maybe a hybrid of pre-keyed flips with the ability to do some type of physics-based free flipping would be awesome. If only they could do this in Session, there would be no going back to SXL. I'd take that in Session even if they abandoned the game right now, jank and all.
@@P.W.R. session will only apply your weight onto the specified foot if you do that. That's with auto catch on too. Though I would recommend working your way towards manual when you can and you will never turn back. A trick isn't a trick unless you land it. Sure, these days you can change the controls to be what they call legacy to be more accessible but do not play like that. You might as well stick to XL cause you'd just get frustrated at the maps. Damn I thought I'd be able to continue reading while a replied but I can't. I'll reply again.
@@P.W.R. I aren't the best at session by any means, but after enough tries I can pull of what I'm after eventually, and the more I repeat and nail it down the less issues I have with jank and it just becomes about nailing the landing. My biggest issue with skater is when the flip stops itself on the spot and waits for them to put their feet on, which I hear is auto too so I find it gross. I honestly can't see myself getting bored of session, can spend all day trying to nail a particular spot and enjoy, let's say, most of that time haha. It's just work and reward with controls that make sense of you ask me, as apposed to just press up and right on one stick. Does it not feel like a cheap rip off to you? A lazy one. Hey each to their own on what they are after from a game. Maybe in a different life I'd be able to love skater, certainly glad it exists it just, I mean I don't want to be impolite cause I'll quickly get toxic. I hear ya and we should hopefully get some great updates in the coming months to put all these discussions to bed anyway. Do the maps work on legacy controls? I've always assumed not at all.
Session still really feels and looks like an early acces game, but it's developers are actively updating the game to make the game an actual skate game (WITH story wich i like). Skater xl feels more like only an simulator, the skating feels super smooth and good, but there is almost no content if you don't have mods. This is where session comes in clutch with the story, money and missions system, big maps with bus stops to go to different places. These things make session feel so much more alive and fun in my opinion. This is just my opinion don't hate on me haha, let's see what others people think on this subject as well!
"really feels and looks like an early acces game" Brother, skaterXL has never passeed from this point if you are being honest. The game has worse graphics, and is glitch and clunky as hell. Sometimes even more glitchy than Session. XL is in the same state since the day i bought it until now if not for mods. You cant denny that SkaterXL is a "finished" product only on its name and version number. SkaterXL isnt worthy of a 1.Something version it is simply a glorifed beta carryed by the mod community.
Just a thought: swap out the black controller overlay for a white controller with black joysticks if you can find it, so the inputs come through clearer
There's two things that I'd add about session. The first one, everything is physics based. Maybe animations don't reflect that on it's actual status, but that's how it is (also, EVERYTHING is skateable, and there's no more delay on anything, nor grinds or manuals). The second one is about the object droper. There's a lot of movable stuff on every single map, like benches, trashcans or cones which you don't have to drop first. Away from those two points, as a session "veteran" player, I'd say that this is the best way to compare games, and u've made it on the less biased possible way. And to you all, don't bring the session vs xl war again. Choose one (or both), respect everybody and have fun!!
There's definitely delay in Session, maybe you got used to it and don't feel it anymore but you can even see it watching at the controller overlay and when the dude makes the trick.
For me, Session is likely going to be the one I love the most! Will likely get both eventually, but yeah. I've looked at Skate 4 and it seems like they're going for a really arcady and unrealistic style of game with easy, simple controls, crazy parkour moves, massive gaps and no speed wobble on massive hill bombs. I really hope there will be a game with a cool career mode on it. Nothing beats the thrill of moving up in the ranks, getting on a magazine cover, having your first sponsor, getting your first shoe and making your own team to shoot awesome films. That's another thing I'd love to see done. Some sort of fleshed out video creator, where you can add music, as well as add clips, trim clips and essentially make your own skate films with your friends!
I've gone back and forth a lot. SkaterXL when it came out felt so revolutionary controls-wise. I had followed Session prior to SXL release but seemed far away. When I played their Kickstarter demo, tbh I didn't see it. But then they released the video at e3 I got hyped again. I love SXL but only with mods... but not even online gets me to play it atm. Ever since Sessions' latest update it just overall feels so much more rewarding and good to play. The flow of the skater when riding around, the turning on the ground and in the air. The Manuals feel better, the grinds feel MUCH better. The only thing that SXL has over Session is the fact you can really make your tricks look different, but you really do need mods in order for it to feel good. Right now I'm playing Session as my goto, but I'll probably head on back to SXL again at some point. I do believe the Session devs talked about adding Multiplayer after release, like SXL... Oh and please let transition skateboarding be good, we've NEVER had good transition in a skateboarding game before...
Yeah so strange how noone has ever nailed transition in a skating game, not even close! And not just the big stuff - I want to skate how I skate in real life (not that great haha) just want to hit a simple axle stall, rock to fakie, rock and roll and have it all feel fluid.
You did a good job of presenting the facts in a non-biased and entertaining way! For me as a console player, Session is the easy winner. I lost interest in Skater XL when the devs ruled out adding a stats menu.
I think map density is a category to rate them on next time, I play session which seems like it has high map density. SXL looks like it has more flat ground and dead space.
(I play both games) Skater xl does not Work like session in terms of maps and overall game principe, where in session you get a big part of a City packed with spots to skate in one maps, in sxl you get a map with one spot or area, which is (in my opinion) really made for skating every centilmeter of it. Over all I would say that you can't compare the both games, because session is ment to be a super realistic real life skate simulator. But sxl is more like a sandbox for you to mess around with. What you like more is purely preference.
If you’re on console it’s session without a doubt...game feels so much better after last update and always loved the stats menu! Big W for session. And it has different board shapes and different widths and wheel sizes...you can customize so much it’s great even flip the wheels to have graphic on the inside now
@Suzu Kid It's Playstation's fault tho because they don't support early access games. They'll release it on Ps4 and Ps5 as well once the game is finished.
@Suzu Kid yeah like dude said you will get it at official release. Kinda cool with early access tho cuz it was only $15. It’s something to look forward to tho for y’all 🤙🏻
My preference is just Session all the way, in the beginning I was like 50/50 but Session is more realistic and the dev team actually cares whereas I just felt ignored by EasyDay studios and now the game is pure crap imo. Also the fact that Session has soo much more than XL has and it's not even in 1.0 yet. Physics isn't even a thing in XL :/ Also textures, lightning and sound design in Session is just on point as well
I’ve watched milky play skater xl and he’s using dawg mods I think that’s what they’re called but the mods he has makes the game look 10 times more realistic physics wise but idk I’ve never played any of the games session just looks clunky to me
@@kachoww5981 fair i guess, but also keep in mind session ain't even a finished game yet while Skater XL is, also it can look more clunky than it feels. I'd suggest get both and see which one you like the feel of more, i started off with buying Skater XL and was likeo ooo this so smooth but unrealistic, then I got session and been hooked since haha, i think it's different for everyone tho
2 additional categories to compare: how's the people behind each game and how bright the future of each game is (vanilla or not). Easy to figure out the winner in both categories.
I bought skater xl on ps4 for $40 and imo that is a rip off. They offer very little content and no updates. Obviously playing on pc allows you to mod but the creators are basically just relying on the community to keep their game alive. Seems lazy to me. Session actually continues to update and listens to the community.
I know this was probably said already but you forgot board customization, music variety, npc’s and all the tricks you can’t do in XL like caspers, darkslides, primo, pressure flips, impossibles, quick shuvs and late flips. how theirs a story mode with currency system to buy new gear. All the historical challenges. How you can interact with the environment by moving certain objects that already exist in the world. Fast traveling with the bust stops. Shoulda compared how session actually interacts with the community unlike lazy day off studios
The problem is in Session you can’t do any Vert tricks. Basically mini ramps and vert ramps exist in the game but are useless since your skater only knows street tricks. I’ve never played SXL, is it like this can or can you actually skate vert?
@@ThinWhiteLuke the lip tricks on session are less broken now but I'll say if your a lip trick sorta person xl feels very good but session looks cleaner when you dial it in! Somehow skate 3 blows both out the water with ramp riding air outs, grabs and ramp tricks in general just don't feel all that fun compared to xl/session my personal opinion others might enjoy it tho. It really sucks cause every game is a preference for everyone😂 just really depends on how or what you wanna skate etc.
@@isaacbmx7821 I wish they would give us a big update on Session. I keep hearing that unlike Skater XL the developers are still working on Session, but here we are I’ve owned the game a long time and haven’t seen much changes.
@@ThinWhiteLuke Oh its changed, there was a long time where I didn't play Session because omg it felt terrible. Played it the other day and holy shit I can actually do things. Super cool, not to mention the game is telling me to do these things I never thought we could do. Very badass.
Main reason i refunded SXL was no option to tweak controls, i hated that the foot input wasn't relative to stance... Also session has 10 maps(main map/brooklyn banks), 4 of them being big maps
Skater xl looks to floaty. First thing I noticed for sure. Gravity isn't like watching a balloon falling it's like watching a rock falling your not helium.
Session has great features like graphics and darkslides primos impossible etc Skater XL is super smooth and chilled Shows you how great skate 3 was which had the best of everything in 2010!
I think a large amount of people playing session probably stop in less than 10 hours, which is a shame because this is very kuch a game that clicks after several hours, and then clicks again, and again and again, and before you know it you're actually increasing your level of control nonstop at a slow rate but fast enough to really feel it. Idk, skater XL just didn't have that effect on me and I have more time in XL than Session. My vote goes to session.
Skater xl is for people who wish they could play session. Don't know how sxl fanboys can diss sessions animations when they have to use cheats and rely heavily on mods just to enjoy their game. I'm sorry an early access game doesn't look as good as a 1.0 version of a game that's full of mods and cheats. If it wasn't for the modding community on sxl, no one would be playing it.
From playing skater xl on PS4 and playing session on series x. Session wins by a mile. Skater xl is unplayable because of that floaty bs, It doesn’t feel realistic for skaters who want a simulation. Skater xl really isn’t that smooth considering you can’t do bs or fs 360 on flat. Also when you land tricks or a line in session it feels more rewarding. Creature studios, the developers of session also care about the skate community and don’t just want a quick buck.
(I play both games) Skater xl does not Work like session in terms of maps and overall game principe, where in session you get a big part of a City packed with spots to skate in one maps, in sxl you get a map with one spot or area, which is (in my opinion) really made for skating every centilmeter of it. What you like more is purely preference.
Legacy Controls are being removed for version 1.0 on full release for session in September. Session is also fixing trick time so you can get some steezy 1 foot catch hard flips.
@@Watsonclipsfordays Yes, they stated that it was to simplify and release a fully functional game version 1.0. Cant say its better still runs weird for me on a 3050ti.
As my hand gets more and more strained in recent months/years playing kb+m games, I've been looking for more controller-friendly games on PC. Skating games were one of the first ones that came to mind. Thanks for this video. I'll likely get both, but this makes me even more excited to try them out.
Sessions flip tricks just look so much better and feel like they should. Skater XLs flips are super slow and sketchy looking. I can't skate in the winters here so Session elevates my mood at the moment.
im a person who has played skater XL for exaclty 600 hours, i recently bought session because of the update. And In my opinion session is coming along way better, its constantly getting better because they listen to the community, but skater xl on the other hand feels too arcade-y and stupid when it comes to gameplay. Easy Day doesnt update us on the game and it just lacks something. the tricks may look better, but they definetly feel way worse (talking about vanilla). I feel like when session is fully developed or atleast in some time more updated, it will be way more worth buying. And i would definetly recommend buying it now, because just like skater XL, when the full game comes out its price will get higher.
I've been a Skater XL boy, but Session has been coming in strong. Session still has a lot of bugs that can get extremely frustrating - like trying to complete a mission and doing the exact thing it asks 100 times and the game no accepting it - then randomly it will. Stuff like that, that can be fixed, but presently quite annoying. I really hope Session adds a switch control that remains the same as regular like Skater XL - the controls flipping every time you do a 180 come with some fundamental issues in my experience. I also play on front/back foot controls in regular and I literally can't 180 into a manual because the moment my wheels touch the ground the controls flop and he does a pressure flip as both sticks down does a pressure flip, which is what the game thinks you're doing. It also cant decide what direction you need to flip tricks when you're flipping out of a 180 into a manual (when it works), sometimes it remains as normal, other times it flips based on screen direction. Skater XL's switch controls staying consistent wins it for me as it doesn't come with any issues in doing tricks. I also hope they simplify the replay editor, it shouldn't take 10 minutes to film a single trick. Almost everything could be keyframed in a single layer like Skater XL. I appreciate the added depth, but not at the cost of usability. It's really all about controls, the features are great - they just need to figure out how to refine the control layout to make it simpler and more user friendly.
Just wanted to add, if you aren't interested in Realism at all, and want something similar to Skate 3, I recommend SkaterXL. I've tried both, and Session definitely feels more like a simulator. That's perfectly fine if it's what you're going for, but I wanted something more arcadey and SkaterXL hits the mark perfectly. Edit: to add, Session removed the Skate 3 controls, and my PC isn't strong enough to emulate Skate. So, Skater XL is the closest competition IMO.
THPS is an arcade skateboarding game. EA Skate is a semi-realistic arcade skateboarding game. Skater XL is a realistic skateboarding game. Session is a skateboarding simulator. You can compare them forever, but they occupy different gaming categories and each is great in it’s own way.
Stoked for session to come to PS, I love how to can to a kick flip with different styles and catches and whatnot. But I feel like I’ll like session way more
i don’t understand how u think SXL is more fluid than session to me in session i notice that the character doesn’t just too high but if he does gravity pulls him down fast it just looks more realistic to me but in SXL the character moves weirdly and more robotic
When I got them and they were both very unfinished SkaterXL was just more polished and reliable, but that game has REALLY stagnated since "release" when they cashed in while Session grows exponentially better all the time
woah i have yet to play either of these games but i would really like to play both of them . Personally i would pick session for its realism from what i can see here.
Session is for skaters. Skater xl is for people who like skateboarding. Session is a sim. SXL is an arcade skater. Same way you have Forza motorsports and Forza horizon. One is a sim. One is for fun. IMO :P
I disagree. The controls of both games are way too intense and simulator-y for most people to pick up and play, both basically requiring an hour or two before you can really do anything at all. The only arcadey thing about Skater XL is that pop height is like eight feet and not adjustable, which is super weird when every other aspect of the game is so realistic. On the spectrum from arcade to simulator, SXL is just below Session, still being way too technical and having too little story for casual players but also being too unrealistic for hardcore players. It's like the perfectly wrong mix of features, and this is coming from someone who loves vanilla SXL and had hundreds of hours before I quit. I get that moon gravity helps noobs, but we really need to be able to turn it off.
@@hadensbigfatclipstackaroon2695 I get your point and I agree with a lot as well. Sxl lack of story and that core feeling of battling a trick is more what I mean of a sim. Because just like irl you're not going to be able to get it perfect first try and it's that feeling of accomplishment when landing something you've been battling for hours is gratifying. And sessions replay editor and style just fits more to hardcore skaters and sxl is more for the casual skater looking to throw down some bangers with little to no resistance both are incredible games and as a skater I'm SUPER grateful we're getting games for us finally.
Session, especially after the last update. Went back to check on XL and the turning didn't feel as good (even with modded loose trucks), which is crazy if you think about previous versions of session, the turning was a turn off, now it's a comfy cruise!
Would’ve been neat to include which game has greater mod support. For those playing on pc, the idea of one game having a plethora of mods vs the other having very little, could be the main determining factor on which to play.
I purchased Skater XL a few years back. I did not see Sessions at the time. Just the new re release of Tony Hawk 1, 2. Of course I had been playing Skate and Skate 3 almost exclusively. Just about a year ago all of a sudden Skate 2 was a thing again and being sold again after an age it was not being sold? Crazy right? If a game is digital. Why in the heck is it not there in any marketplace for sale. My next purchase will be 2 to finish up that collection skipping #4. Thanks for the in depth rundown on both games. Very informative with your flair for boarding.
How do yall say SXL beats session in physics and animation, when SXL still looks like an unfinished game, while session looks more finished when it isnt even fully released. Buy session dont waste your time and money, like I did, on VANILLA Skater Xl.
If you don't consider gravity, people just like the responsivnes of sxl Gameplay. They also like being able to steeze out their legs indevidually during the Tricks. I think that you can't compare the games. And I like both games for different reasons.
im not able to play these games any more at the moment but i saw the potential in session a bit over a year ago and i really wanted to see the day when people would also give it a chance, hopefully soon ill get to play the new updates. for those of you on console its worth adding that in this past year sxl has had almost 0 content and dev communication and session went from being trashed to having people who prefer it, for those who have a pc dont skip out on checking out what mods do to xl because thats the whole reason why the game is on top and the community pumps out content
Since Skate 4 is some ways off and the Tony Hawk series has floundered -- again -- I've been looking for other skateboarding games to play. Neither Sessions of Skater XL have appealed to me all that much, but your video at least shed some light on them. Thanks for that! I'm definitely leaning more towards Sessions, but I really wish both games felt more 'alive', if that makes sense. There's ambient sound, suggesting that things are going on, but visually there's just not much in either game. Regardless, when Sessions comes out on PS4, I think I'll go with that one! It certainly has a better 'feel' to it, and you can tell just by watching gameplay. Skater XL seems like it's more deliberate, but also more stilted in its animations.
You can actually increase crowd density to Session so you can make the streets busy with people, although lots of reasons why that sucks but I fully believe when Session is closer to finished, you will like it.
Just bought session let’s see how it goes I started on skater xl but the lack of maps is so depressing it’s for pc and mods and session is just mmmwua 😚👌
i think session is generally a better video game. it has a story and everything. XLs controls are the best controls in any skateboarding game though. just wish they actually cared about the video game part, like adding objectives. i also feel like session devs care a lot more. upon full release session will probably be better, assuming they make better animations.
As a hardcore Session player, would love to try Skater XL. Multiplayer wpuld be fun though I'm sure Session devs are already well on the way to adding it. Everytime I take a break and come back to Session there is new things so sweet.
If Skater XL had a in-game stats menu, and more customization in general. It would be the better game. At the moment, Session seems to be on top here with their recent updates and especially with their very customizable settings. I think if you’re on PC, Skater XL is a solid option, if you’re okay with downloading mods. With mods both games are great, but Skater XL just benefits way more from them. On the other end, Session is a much better option for console players because you already have the “mods” you would have to download for Skater XL, since Skater XL without mods isn’t amazing. If you’re on console: Session > Skater XL if you’re on PC: Session > Skater XL If you’re PC Modding: Session = Skater XL Skate 1,2,3 > any other Skating game
Only thing I don't agree on is Skate 3 being better cause I legit didn't like that game compared to the first 2 cause it was way more cartoony and wacky which isn't the reason I play Skate but I respect the vibe of the rest of the comment (although there's definitely an argument to be made for some goofy arcade like skate games like Tony Hawk imo)
Forgot about vert which in my opinion besides the fluidity and animations is the only thing that skater xl has a huge advantage over session, even stalls and little things like that are almost impossible in session
Skaterxl looks smoother (atm) but feels floaty since it doesn’t have the stats slider session cheaper a lil clunky but being able to fine tune all the stats makes skating spots a lil more satisfying..... (pure vanilla games)...... can’t wait for everything creature is about to do with session 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Looking forward to the modded comparison. I mod the hell out of skater xl but tbh I don't have any need currently to mod session, I'll do it eventually but right now I'm good on it without them.
Online games are pretty cool, but having it like how we used to play video games. Having to hook up 1 or 2 controllers in order to play, multiplayer is a better way in my opinion. You can actually hang out with people
they must have changed it in Skater XL after your review because I’m skating regular back foot right stick, then front foot left stick once I get into switch the thumb sticks are reverse!
I know it's a beta but after playing the skate 4 demo than playing sessions it just feels like a breath of fresh air. Skate 4 beta got so boring bc of the same controls and no difference in trick anim. I can't wait for what sessions brings
So I bought session cause from a reviews stand point it seemed better, played it a total 15 minutes, both couldn't get on with it for some reason and my pc couldn't handle it well enough (not sure why as i regularly play beamng and im certain thats more demanding), so I bought skater xl and set a timer for 30 mins, loved it and pc runs it very well even online got some mods played online, so when my timer went off I went straight to steam help for a refund of session🤦♂️😂 I've played skater xl 5 hours straight now and it's a good thing I work tuesday-saturday cause I would be fucked driving a forklift with the little amount of sleep I'll get lol
I have a question, if I buy Session (Game Preview) on Xbox will I own the full game when it drops? Or will I have to buy the full game after it’s release? I bought sxl a while ago but never bought session because I wasn’t sure if I was going to have to buy the game twice? I hope this makes sense, thanks in advance!
if you got a pc then get both sure but if you just got console then i say get session even if you can afford both. trust me as smooth as skater xl may look and feel, vanilla gameplay just aint it and easy day studios already confirmed they dont want a stats menu in the game. Plus they rarely support the game. It takes so long to update the game even to just patch glitches thats been there for a long time. i dont wanna come off as a skater xl hater but my point is if you got console then dont get skater xl until they make BIG changes to the game. Not just add a feature outta the blue and a map every 3 months.
i dont have session but from what ive seen console and pc session looks exactly the same. Obviously, frames and graphics on pc is better bcuz pc will always be better than console but yeah.
SKATE IS A SIMULATOR. Take away the hud of all three games and it's basically the same game three times. The single stick Flick-it controls are meant to mirror what you do in real life. Session and xl just split the controls and spread them over two sticks. Skate needs to have dual stick as an option so we can actually have one all encompassing skateboarding video game for all types of players. Xl and session are Indy games and will never achieve the amount of polish the new skate will. Let's beg EA to adopt dual stick and just say rip to xl and session.
get both, in a world where theres about 3 skateboarding games that are actually accurately made skate, skater xl, session i personally want to own all of them eventually
are there mods for session? I can't seem to find them online. I know XL has heaps of mods and it really helps the game feel more content rich, which is something session feels pretty void of.
i'd never seen skaterXL gameplay before and wow, the devs should take the people that made session to court, completely identical mechanically and visually even, the maps look the same!
I've never palyed Session but many hours of modded Sxl. Recently I've stopped playing bc it's not really giving anything new. Session used to look like shit but now it is actually starting to look a lot better. Maybe in the future I'll hop on that train.
@@victoriousgangster next update should include transitions. So with that i hope it will be less robotic. Last 2 updates were huge. Before that i couldnt stand Session and played SXL instead. But now i feel that Session is a little bit supperior if you want more realistic feel to skating and like a challenge.
I haven't played Session or Skatet Xl for that matter while on Steam. I have console Xl and I love it. Obviously there are things that could be better, however it's pretty good. I love the skate mechanics. It's more mode type stuff and graphics that could be better. Seeing session first build or Console Xbox build, at this point skater Xl looks better while lots of people say Session is better Still. From playing Xl I can say it feels and looks smoother to this point in time. But, I know Session had a larger scale team behind it, and I expect final build to be alot more in depth etc. So youtubeing Create a skater in Session I though didn't look as good as I would like! But, however, recently Session is now available to "bookmark" in PS5 store!!!! ;) This tells me it's near release and final build!! ANDDDD, The pictures they show look incredible. Looks very graphically convinceing. Even the last picture they show of the male skater looks amazing. So they definitely put the work in to the final build. So I would assume it's gonna be even better than now. I would also assume the game will now warrant a Canadian 59.99 and U.S. 49.99 retail price. If they have infact "next gened" it, while adding features etc. Because the Xbox build was only 20 bucks. Will they upgrade for free or charge series X users an additional 20 bucks for "full game"? Time will tell. And of chourse this is just my personal speculation. ;) cheers everyone ;)
What about vanilla tricks? Session has 3 types of darkslides, primo, caspers, late flips, late shoves, pressure flips, plus you can unsync flips(experimental) so you can do nightmare flips and stuff. Skater xl has vert and grabs. Edit. Forgot to mention you can do sex changes, disco flips and body varials in session too. But don't know if they can be done in vanilla xl.
I got SXL first and played the shit out of it. Then I bought session and played a little bit but came back quickly back to SXL but since this new update of session dropped I haven’t even touched SXL.
Skater xl simply puts out community maps after long periods of months of waiting. Session improves & adds tons of features with their updates. Session feels more rewarding when landing tricks or better yet doing lines because it's harder. Plus people requested for easy day studios to put out a stats menu for quite sometime but not one response. Session holds the crown for me.
I just don’t enjoy vanilla skater xl in its current state

for console, skater xl is the gateway drug. once you get into it, session is way more fun and rewarding. we will just have to see how both games progress in the future.
Xl won’t progress anymore session has destroyed xl
Skater XL died the day they finally announced that the game wasn't fully finished..... I don't think it'll be finished anytime soon session is the better game hands down
I agree, I played vanilla XL for a year before recently trying out Session and I'm more hooked on Session now. I just wish there was a mod menu on XL just to remove that moon gravity lol
Perfectly put! I started with XL and now I cannot put session down at alllllll
but session is so lagi
Here is the major thing to consider when comparing Skater XL to Session - SXL has been released. Session is still in testing. Session will still get exponentially better. SXL may get some new maps or some minor new feature at best.
Skaterxl got ruined for me because of how complicated it got to play it modded
Still no new maps in XL a whole year later. The best maps are the ones ppl modded
This didn't age well, no updates for session in 2 years, just paid dlc
Session, 100%. The controls and extra realism makes it the newest skateboarding game since SKATE 1. Skater XL just is too in the middle.
Skater xl has better controls 😐
@@Oooo-ms9df session has better controls. Skater is just pointlessly easy, last time I went on it I pressed diagonally up and right and he Ollie's and did a flip and landed it...honestly fuck that.
@@PsychoNinjaFlea
Session does the same thing unless you use manual catch, so what's the difference?
Ill put it this way. Session is the only thing to get me off Lost Ark in the last 3 weeks.

This is just my opinion don't hate on me haha, let's see what others people think on this subject as well!
ion think SXL is more like a simulator when ur ollie is 10 ft high
good comment
"really feels and looks like an early acces game" Brother, skaterXL has never passeed from this point if you are being honest. The game has worse graphics, and is glitch and clunky as hell. Sometimes even more glitchy than Session. XL is in the same state since the day i bought it until now if not for mods. You cant denny that SkaterXL is a "finished" product only on its name and version number. SkaterXL isnt worthy of a 1.Something version it is simply a glorifed beta carryed by the mod community.
@@thesilverhawaiian5024 exactly I almost cringe now when ever I play because of how ridiculous it looks
@@caioteixeira1541 i agree, good argument 🤝
2nd sentence has been proven wrong already
How long have you been skating in real life ?
There's definitely delay in Session, maybe you got used to it and don't feel it anymore but you can even see it watching at the controller overlay and when the dude makes the trick.
@@themadman6667 Play on hardcore settings + 0% grind alignment and prove me wrong boi
@@overdosedaniel6025 it got fixed at 99%, on the previous patch the delay was a big thing tbh
The flat ground section... You think skater xl has better physics? It looks like you were popping those tricks with moon gravity
Xl on vanilla settings like needs a large space an open map to be fair. session dialed speed an Ollie height very well.
Physics isn't even a thing in XL :/
Also textures, lightning and sound design in Session is just on point as well
I’ve watched milky play skater xl and he’s using dawg mods I think that’s what they’re called but the mods he has makes the game look 10 times more realistic physics wise but idk I’ve never played any of the games session just looks clunky to me
@@kachoww5981 fair i guess, but also keep in mind session ain't even a finished game yet while Skater XL is, also it can look more clunky than it feels.
I've been emulating Skate 3 until Skate 4 comes out on PC lol, it really is a masterpiece
Bro you forgot sound. For me it’s really important in a skate game. Honestly, skater XL sound really bad
I think the same
From playing skater xl on PS4 and playing session on series x.
U must suck so bad at skater xl if u can’t 360 on flat 😂 no wonder u think session better lol ... I can low pop 360 flip on flat vanilla

Legacy Controls are being removed for version 1.0 on full release for session in September. Session is also fixing trick time so you can get some steezy 1 foot catch hard flips.
By legacy do you mean SKATE style? If so why’d they take them out?
All of these niche genre indie devs deserve way more credit. They simply have the passion to go for good entertaining gameplay without any gimmicks
So, Skater XL is the closest competition IMO.
this helped bc i want something similar to Skate 3, thank you!
I've noticed that in Session, doing a fakie tre or nollie tre into a grind (specifically 5-0s) looks beautiful, I prefer that specific trick to SXL.
Doesn't it?? Oh God it looks so good
Should have touched on the missions. SXL has shit missions. Session is making a whole career mode. That being said, I play and love both.
If a game needs mods to be good, it shouldn't be compared to a game that doesn't need mods
True

Thnx you, I tried for hours !! Trying figure out wich one would be better w videos and you're the only one who helped thnx
i think session is generally a better video game. it has a story and everything.
Biggest thing he forgot to mention about both games is the Pros that are in the game, clothing customization, and the story.
If you’re on console: Session > Skater XL
if you’re on PC: Session > Skater XL
If you’re PC Modding: Session = Skater XL
Skate 1,2,3 > any other Skating game
Only thing I don't agree on is Skate 3 being better cause I legit didn't like that game compared to the first 2 cause it was way more cartoony and wacky which isn't the reason I play Skate but I respect the vibe of the rest of the comment (although there's definitely an argument to be made for some goofy arcade like skate games like Tony Hawk imo)
Forgot about vert which in my opinion besides the fluidity and animations is the only thing that skater xl has a huge advantage over session, even stalls and little things like that are almost impossible in session
Thanks man!
I was thinking about buying Session, but because of your breakdown, I think Skater XL suits me better.

Are you stuck in console?
after playing session on xbox for about a week it’s impossible to go back to skater xl
Looking forward to the modded comparison. I mod the hell out of skater xl but tbh I don't have any need currently to mod session, I'll do it eventually but right now I'm good on it without them.
Sessions is so much better on every level.
Spent like 3 hours last night on session trying to get some sort of good looking wallride on this sign that is leaning up against a wall
Manual catch is a deal breaker in my opinion, and that is only included in session (vanilla wise)
I'm really looking forward to the release of Session on September 22nd
👀The video we've all been waiting for... 😂 You're a good dude, I appreciate all your content 🔥
The session devs have said that you won’t have to pay extra once you got the game preview :)
I have both games and play them interchangebly. I paid for games long time ago, when They cost a lot less :)
Yo Garrett is session or skater xl better? 🙈
What about grinds and slides controls? I play both and I find the grinds and slides more intuitive and like skating IRL on Skater XL.
if you got a pc then get both sure but if you just got console then i say get session even if you can afford both. trust me as smooth as skater xl may look and feel, vanilla gameplay just aint it and easy day studios already confirmed they dont want a stats menu in the game.
Obviously, frames and graphics on pc is better bcuz pc will always be better than console but yeah.
you spelt controls wrong...
Hey, I know true skate is a Mobile game, but I wanted to know your opinión on that game talking about gameplay and physics
Such a banger video🔥 Next video you should play a JDM drift compilation in the background 🥵
get both, in a world where theres about 3 skateboarding games that are actually accurately made skate, skater xl, session i personally want to own all of them eventually
are there mods for session? I can't seem to find them online. I know XL has heaps of mods and it really helps the game feel more content rich, which is something session feels pretty void of.
"Ding ding ding, congratulations" 😂Bro you're too funny
i'd never seen skaterXL gameplay before and wow, the devs should take the people that made session to court, completely identical mechanically and visually even, the maps look the same!
loved the video definitely has helped me make a decision great work
Im going with SXL just for the fact of the look of it... it just seems much more bright and fun
5:54 that shit made me crack the fuck up LOL
I've never palyed Session but many hours of modded Sxl. Recently I've stopped playing bc it's not really giving anything new. Session used to look like shit but now it is actually starting to look a lot better. Maybe in the future I'll hop on that train.
Nice. Im big on fluidity and how tricks look so I will try skater xl then - thanks for the review.
Skater XL should be the benchmark for controls. I will give Session a try but I'm a bit skeptical.
Skate controls were way better and easier
This video made me want to go play XL 😂
I’ll give content and customizability to session but sxl controls and feel blow session out of the water imo
I was an xl fan first but really love session now but the session object dropper is a lot harder to use
I agree with Session being the winner. Just hope 1.0 will look and feel as fluid as SXL.
SIM games cant have unrealistic flow like SXL. cuz SXL doesnt punish you if you jump on rail from wrong unrealistic angle.
@@rendzen3586 oh, never thought about that. At least that could fix the roboticness of the physics. It's definitely better for sure but not 100 yet.
@@victoriousgangster next update should include transitions. So with that i hope it will be less robotic. Last 2 updates were huge. Before that i couldnt stand Session and played SXL instead. But now i feel that Session is a little bit supperior if you want more realistic feel to skating and like a challenge.
I skated between 11-21 years old. I’m 30, I love skater xl, but I bought session the other day and I just can’t seem to grasp it. Any tips?
Watch JL Nightmare tutorials on youtube
give yourself time
it took me like 25 hours to get it down
@@ryleeterhark1482 I think I’ve spent around 12 Hours and still can’t tre flip
😂
@@matthewmccrudden7877 now that's what I call realism lmao
And of chourse this is just my personal speculation. ;) cheers everyone ;)
hold start in session to open the advanced settings menu faster!
You can body varial in sxl, if you do a varialflip with a fronstide 180. But for me session is better yes
Honestly ya had me with the legacy controls.
How about content? Is there any story mode or any missions or anything to do in either game besides just skate?
I got SXL first and played the shit out of it. Then I bought session and played a little bit but came back quickly back to SXL but since this new update of session dropped I haven’t even touched SXL.
Why are you ME
Bro exactly lol it changed everything
Same bro
Skater xl simply puts out community maps after long periods of months of waiting. Session improves & adds tons of features with their updates. Session feels more rewarding when landing tricks or better yet doing lines because it's harder. Plus people requested for easy day studios to put out a stats menu for quite sometime but not one response. Session holds the crown for me.
I assume you’re stuck in console tho right?
