me too I got this game seen 2021 and I have a lot of problems of this game I had to go back to playing skate 3 after that so thank you JL Nightmare you are awesome.
Being a huge skate fan. It was an adjustment. Day one was frustrating, but the more I've been practicing. Im picking it up. Starting to love it. Landing tricks is so satisfying in this game.
once it clicks in your mind how you use each foot and mimic the movements you'd use to do tricks you'll never be able to go back to the Skate Flick-It controls.
Did you use these settings or keep the default gameplay settings? Just playing it the first time and it all feels alien, even after dabbling in skater xl lol
week three is still frustrating. "Ollie up, nollie flip, switch backside flip down" fail 50 times only to have the game not pick it up once you get it right
So true just takes time I put skate 3 down and I’m going all in session cuz I always played skate as realistic as I could and this just hits all the marks and if it’s to hard you can adjust any settings to make things easier
@@dr_cojo5078 Skater XL seems way easier. I have both and have much more trouble landing anything in Session, but that also makes me like Session more. It's fun to sit and work at a trick for a while instead of just busting it out
i personally love the challenge of landing tricks and doing grinds in session. obviously its a big learning curve for beginners but i think that learning the hard way is the best way to get good at it. learning the easy way before switching to the harder way will be more effort in the long run
Man, I get what you mean. In it's own way, it's like learning to skate irl. You learn the basics and then put the pieces together to get more advanced. I love that feeling when you've tried to land something for 20 mins and it all comes together.
Well I'm learning the hard way that the rock the DWS challenge is impossible because "fakie fs 180" is the same thing as a "fs half cab" and the challenge only accepts the former.
Invaluable guide for new players! Your settings made swapping from Skater XL so much easier. I just hard-flipped late flipped down a set of stairs like Aurelian Giraud (and it only took me 10 seconds to figure out - instead of hours). I love the maps, and after 7 hours of gameplay...I now like it better over Skater XL 😎
I've never played a skate sim and jumped in on hard-core settings and love it! I like the challenge and satisfaction when I land something I've been trying for 20min 😆
sounds like you dont have alot to do? not asking in a rude way but im the opposite way... I buy a game to have fun and chill. Im not yhe person to spend hours just to maybe learn how to jump and flip on a game. so wasted that money... frustrating. they could make it easier for the people that dont have time:/ theres not even diffrent modes. its do this or fuck off forever type of game😂
@sander4247 well yeah, go play Tony hawk then lol. I only play about an hour or two at a time. I work and have kids, so no I don't have all the time in the world lol
I’m really loving the 1.0 update. I can see some players are frustrated this update & see where they’re coming from. Hopefully the devs gives us more updates more rapidly!! They slaughtered impossibles
Dude you're the reason I bought this game, I found this video yesterday and thought.. I can come back to this video if I have difficulty with the game. Bought the game this morning, tutorial was brutal, ended up skipping the FS Boardslide. Finally landed a rail slide down some stairs. Now I'm here to make the experience a bit more smooth, this video really is top notch. Helps a ton, Cheers.
I was just thinking about this. I got the game a year prior to this but I think that the level of difficulty and getting the hang of using the settings menu could draw some player away from the game. I’m super happy with the gameplay so far (except with the tre flip issue on xbox) and I hope that just like you, more people start creating new sessions content for the community to keep growing. You will forever be the OG and I’m so happy that you are a playable character in the game
That's the case for me, i do understand the stats menu a tiny bit but this video simplifies *SO* much. And to me, the game is waaaaay too hard so this video... again, helps a ton! 🙏
Yeah I think the default settings are geared more towards diehard skaters who want the realism and difficulty, because as everyone knows, skateboarding is hard lol. I just got the game for PlayStation, never played it before and I’m having a blast on the default, the difficulty of it is what makes it fun and rewarding for me, but I can see why it would be deterring for others who want a more casual experience. Either way, I think everyone should give this game a chance, it’s amazing and I promise it will be rewarding in the long run!
is your tre flip issue in goofy stance? because alot of the time when I do the tre flip in goofy stance I get a kickflip and it doesnt register the scoop.
Currently playing Session 1.0 on default difficulty and settings, really appreciate the video because it gives more insight to what individual settings do. Might also look into your other setting vids
Amazingly informative video. I just downloaded this game, first time player and i was a deer in headlights. Nice to know what all these options do, i'll have to do some more adjusting. Thanks, you deserve a medal for this.
Really love how much they've thought through things like wheel bite and setup. It makes me more motivated to switch things up and see how different setups affect skating different spots.
Thank you dude, I came from skater XL on ps4. I downloaded this yesterday because I thought it was just an updated version for ps5. I had ZERO FUN for about 2 hours, I even tried to contact PlayStation to see if I could return the game and get skater XL (which I got pretty good at)… but now thanks to these settings changes I’m having a blast playing this and finding cool skate spots. This is was truly a life (or $63.59) saver. Thank you.
I’ve been playing since the beginning builds and 1.0 is amazing overall. Yes there is more to be done but I have faith in these devs. For the struggling newcomers, just be patient and it will come. Start getting comfortable with just basic skating and turning and then move in to flips, then grinds. Just remember it’s like real skateboarding, you don’t land/learn everything at once. ✌️
Turn all around with a good rotations and landing the trick early to extending the opportunity of switching flip tricks and control the board of horizontal, vertical, and diagonal angle!
The controls compared to skater xl/ skate 1-3 are very different.its very hard at first.. but as soon as you first start figuring how to land tricks....its just so damn satisfying...its like real skateboarding with the amount of times ive attempted a trick. I bail and bail and bail until its perfectly executed
This is a really good video with very useful tips.. i played skaterxl the hole time and i bought session last week and played it for the first time.. it was so hard man but now i am getting better and better and it makes so much fun.. when i played it for the fist time i wanted to puit the game after 4 hours because it was so frustrating and i thought that i will never be able learn it because it is so complicated when you are new to the game.. skaterxl was hard enough to master it but session is much harder i feel.. i love both games but the devs from skaterxl don't care enough about the game i think because session has everything the skaterxl community asks for years now
it took me forever to do the donovan strain challenge that gets you sponsors (switch bs tail no pop, full cab flip, etc) did that on hardcore settings. felt so rewarding when i got it
This video was a life saver thank you so much I struggled playing session when I first got it but now I’m playing it much smoother because of this video, cheers ❤
So i have played Skater XL and that was my first ever skating game. i lived it and it was super easy. Session i thought i wouldn’t like it due to the repetitive trial and error while doing tricks but i see now after 2 days with the game that it is very rewarding when you finally land a trick. i have been playing session solely and i am loving it!
I really appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos. It's a super frustrating game especially when you first start. And just that one little change at the beginning of the video has helped me so much!! Thanks my man and keep pumping out thr goods!
What a life-saver of a video! I didn't buy the game because I was barely able to finish the tutorial, but this will help out a lot and make it enjoyable! I don't like the full-on arcade of THPS, but I don't like the full-on sim of Session either, those settings will hit the sweet sim-cade sweet spot, I think!
Been playing / struggling since first launch, this vid taught me a bunch of things to fix. Powerslide reverts, trick invert on grinds to pop out etc. Cheers
They should have added backfoot front foot as well because I use the goofy controls and using front foot backfoot forces goofy players to play the regular controls
Played SkaterXL for more than a year and I'm struggling on Session now (just got the hang of flatground and some basic slides/grinds). Loving your content, subscribed!
Ya know? I watched a stream from a link you posted on reddit to figure out how to do the fakie cab flip in the skate store mission. The slight tap on the kick foot and THEN catching...
Playing Skater XL really prepared me well for this game...it's so good. No need to change settings unless having real issues with a challenge! But how amazing that they include this level of customisation? You can make it as hardcore or as arcade as you like. 👍
Thanks for all the guides on the game. As someone who hasn’t skated in 22 years or played a skate game since the old THPS days, seeing this game on ps5 store I wanted to play it so bad but figured it would be too hard to learn. I seen this video, used your controls and beat the story with your guides. Now I’m starting to learn manual catch. Would love a newer guide on the stats and maybe a guide on settings for those ready to take it from newb to master lol. Thx for all the guides, this game has even brought me back into skating in real life lol.
I've needed one of these types of videos ever since i got Session, and to get it from the Session god himself is just absolutely amazing! So, thank you! 🙏❤ The reason i've never really played Session is because of how extremely difficult it is, and rage inducing.
When I started playing, I had all these easy modes enabled, helped me a lot to understand the mechanics of the game, that for grinds, i need to keep speed , get the right angle, execute and balance! For flips, I can execute all kind of variations, get the timings done, a locking them into grinds and manuals. Finding out there is side pop, low pop, fast rotations and so on. Now 450+hrs later, I am on fullhardcore settings doing some crazy shit and im in love, cannot stop playing. - The big drop landing feature is amazing, finaly it is rewarding to do gaps! with manual catch decouple rotation, its seriously immersive as hell. - The new sounds, thing of beauty. absolutely love them, especialy the new video editor sounds, really good touch. Dont get me wrong the game still has bugs, and is a simulation based, ofcourse it will not fux them all.. but for what they have been promiting, we got exactly that and it feels great to play. Props to the team, they really delivered going the circumstances they are in. Hopefuly a fast hotfix will come to adress some of the annoying stuff and help the XBOX guys. All in all session is looking best it ever was. future looks bright
The powerslide/sticks+trigger method for revrts is so much easier that the double trigger click, and I say that as a beginner who still has a lot of stuff on auto/easy settings.
1) you look like a young Dax Shepard, that’s dope af. 2) this video show have way more views and likes, this was so helpful, you’re really good at explaining things, and I loved how you explained what EVERY setting does thoroughly! 💯🔥
Don’t turn reverts off lmao leave them on cause you still need them for manual reverts and challenges. Just maybe turn Revert On Landing off but keep On ground On
I've been looking for a good skating game on console for a while now, I really miss the tonyhawk underground games, but this isn't bad, but thank you Jesus for your tutorial! Just the first tip has saved me some head ache!
I played early access Session for two and a half years, I think, and I've been loving V1. It's as challenging as ever, and that's part of what I love about the game. It really feels like skating. The reward when I land a trick is so rich. Skate, SXL, Tony Hawk-none of them do that for me. There are even nuances like flicking and holding then sliding one foot to manual catch. Of course the game isn't perfect, but it's really amazing nevertheless!
@@xnoxes1015 Meh. SXL was cool for a hot minute. Crazy potential. But Easy Day smoked and didn't capitalize. Also, the controls were considerably more easy to master, and the mods made the game more interesting-but also ridiculously buggy on console. Too many cons for me, and not as challenging as Session. SXL has some dope maps, though.
I play it on a computer. It's great with mods. Sessions is meh though...it's too stiff. Everything looks clunky except while doing a trick. The landing and ride away is stiff af.
@@xnoxes1015 Yeah, I probably should've gotten SXL on PC. I liked the game when it dropped. I even liked the mods. And there's a nice flow to the skater's movements. Like I said, crazy potential. Devs messed it up. Session is still a work-in-progress and Cre-a-ture plan to roll out more drops over time. Yeah, the animations are kinda stiff, but they're placeholders until the devs get some mocap going. And come on, now-Easy Day had a single set of animations or whatever that didn't look the best, either. If it wasn't for the mod community helping, you'd be saying some of the same things. And they spit in that community's face.
Thank you for the time you put into this video so you can help us 😊 I love the EA skate games, I loved XL and Session is great too! Hard? Yes,but I like doing tricks that I would do in a realistic setting. After so many years of falling down it takes a toll on the body so a skate game is the best way to salvage my body. Least I don't have to break out the Tylenol 😂😂
Yes, this is very helpful! As mentioned here before you should be in the game as an npc where you can get this helpful tricks! Or as an option when you get stuck. You can call your character for explaining things. 😉
@@JLNightmare I’ve been wondering what’s been causing me to constantly fall over after respawning , even search Reddit and everything… good to know, thanks!
I have just been gifted this game and I appreciate the settings to make the game easier. The only thing is I have to skip the tutorial to allow me to change them. My ollies down and up steps are not being registered during the tutorial. You need a lot of patience for this game as it is not easy. My first time in years playing a skate boarding game on PC as the last time was on the PS2 ;-).
This was realy helpful to understand all the Options thanks as always!. Even though i try to get it to be as "realistic" as possible. Guess i also try Manual Catch on my Next Skater :)
People saying controls are too hard are not people that probably skated for real. The game takes awhile to figure out but so did learning how to oillie. I love this game and the intricately of the game is where it shines in my opinion. For once i feel like im actually in control of my board unlike every other skate game in history. Not to mention how amazing you can "film" some of this stuff
Beat this game on normal and now playing on hardcore and its amazing. So satisfying! I used to skate so I use my skate brain to figure out the controls but once I did, its the best feeling skate game to date. Better than Skate IMO. I can try the same line over and over and never get bored. Tailslides and overcrooks never felt so satisfying than on hardcore controls. The only controls I dont like is manual ollie height, I could never do Daewons challenges with default manual ollie height.
Glad you’re enjoying the game! To pop higher out of manuals, pull the stick fully down right before you flick the front foot to pop. This will allow you to use your Max pop Height instead of Manual Pop height
Honestly the thing i most like from this game is the difficulty of making good tricks, now that i fully know how to play qnd i can land anything i miss the satisfaction i had before landing a difficult trick, enjoy the learning process guys
One of the hardest things about picking this up is using the triggers to turn... I'm coming from like 1k hours of Skate 1-3 though so it's really tough to get used to the new controls in a game that looks pretty similar to Skate.
From what I’ve heard there’s a bug on Xbox that’s making inputs just not function right. Like it’s been ridiculously difficult to get consistent tricks. I have to use small scoop just to get certain tricks to respond correctly. It seems like people using pc and PlayStation just don’t have this bug
Really sucks that Xbox players are getting handed a crappy experience. I hope the devs fix this asap. I do know that the version number is lower than PC and PS which are at 1.0.0.32 (Xbox is at 1.0.0.31) so that might also be an issue
For me as an formal skater myself which stands goofy, I prefer 'left right's setting. For me it makes more sens to do tricks with my right thumb(stick) Only thing I hate is that i can't steer anymore with left stick. So have to use RT en LT for that (r2 and l2)
I play on hardcore settings as you and only thing that is hard are shove it flips (varial kick, hardflip var heel and inward heel) to grinds on straight ledge … when you want to have realistic high pop… 🙂
Not a gamer nor do I skate, understand both though. I love tutorial vids and this one is a lot of fun. You're definitely my favorite Session1.0 player. btw, It's cool to be able to see your mustache, they gonna add that as an option in the game? lol.
It was hard for a couple hours but now I can just pick up and play and it’s the best skate game of all time I’m not sure any will be better. Feels like the character is really skating
my problem is for the front/back foot setting i want the sticks swapped because I skate goofy and it feels insane to have the right stick be my back foot, tell me how to fix that or tell them to make that an option.
like my fav part about skaterXL is that if I do a fs flip then ride some and I do the exact same motion rolling fakie it does a fakie FS flip. it just feels way more right.
Creature really should promote your tutorials to new players. I have seen a lot of confused/frustrated new players. Keep up the good work.

Dude thanks for this video I didn’t even realize all those settings mattered lol definitely gonna subscribe.
I've been looking for a good skating game on console for a while now, I really miss the tonyhawk underground games, but this isn't bad, but thank you Jesus for your tutorial! Just the first tip has saved me some head ache!
Thanks a ton for this... this has greatly improved my skating and therefor made the game way more fun.
Noice vid! These settings will make it much more accessible for new players coming to Session :D
Dope video! I’m very new to the game and your settings have been very smooth for me thanks man 💯
I just started playing this game
Your videos are really helpful
Thank for your great work 🤘
This made the game playable for me thank you
Thanks mate just started playing today it's hard to get used to coming from Tony hawk's but hopefully I'll get to your level great vid bro
Skater xl with mods tho?
Dude you are really good at this game ty so much for all the time you put in i love this game as i used to skate as a teen your vids are great ty dude
Good on you for doing this one, should be a prerequisite for all reviews to watch this tutorial first
That tre flip on the Gonz gap was fire my dude
Yes, this is very helpful! As mentioned here before you should be in the game as an npc where you can get this helpful tricks! Or as an option when you get stuck. You can call your character for explaining things. 😉
As a tekken player I’m havin a fkn blast tbh this game is so fun especially with the Ninja turtles
Wow thank you dude!, made this game much easier and smoother 👍
This has upped my enjoyment of the game ten fold
Just starting, thanks :p
I’m a new session player but I personally LOVE having big drop enabled and manual catch enabled
Keep in mind, it has bugs. So when you do a drop and respawn, when you push you will just fall over.
@@JLNightmare I’ve been wondering what’s been causing me to constantly fall over after respawning , even search Reddit and everything… good to know, thanks!
Wow! A lot of helpful info for beginners. Thx so much!
A most excellent video 👍
@@JLNightmare Interesting. I will set default manual height and give it a shot. Thanks!
Much respect to those using manual catches and still thriving. I can barely finish lines on auto catch. 😂
Honestly the thing i most like from this game is the difficulty of making good tricks, now that i fully know how to play qnd i can land anything i miss the satisfaction i had before landing a difficult trick, enjoy the learning process guys
I've been skateboarding since I was 11. Now I'm 35. A lot of tricks I can't do in sessions, i can easily do in real life.
I remember when Guitar Hero first came out my dad tried it and couldn't play past easy. He's a professional guitarist lmao
I’m getting session in 3 days so I’m binging session vids 😂
Thank you for this!!
One of the hardest things about picking this up is using the triggers to turn... I'm coming from like 1k hours of Skate 1-3 though so it's really tough to get used to the new controls in a game that looks pretty similar to Skate.
This game is so hard but SO rewarding when you land that line!
From what I’ve heard there’s a bug on Xbox that’s making inputs just not function right. Like it’s been ridiculously difficult to get consistent tricks. I have to use small scoop just to get certain tricks to respond correctly. It seems like people using pc and PlayStation just don’t have this bug
Yeah dude, making the story hard as fuck. Can't do a consistent Tre flip worth shit lol, hopefully they fix it asap
Really sucks that Xbox players are getting handed a crappy experience. I hope the devs fix this asap. I do know that the version number is lower than PC and PS which are at 1.0.0.32 (Xbox is at 1.0.0.31) so that might also be an issue
Ya my input isn't recognized half the time, quite frustrating.
@@JLNightmare I figured out tre flips for Xbox. You need to do a full circle with the back foot.
@@magicwood2360 try doing a full circle when you rotate your back foot!
Reinstalled this game at least x20 times with hope I will finish tutorial.
So after so many years still can't. LOL
Awesome Video! Just what i needed😃
Thx J.R FOR THR STATS! Btw the bail out reverts remind me of Tony Hawk Pro Skater!❤
Excellent tips! Subbed & liked! 🤘💪
Nice video bro , thanks for the info 💪🏾
For me as an formal skater myself which stands goofy, I prefer 'left right's setting. For me it makes more sens to do tricks with my right thumb(stick)
Only thing I hate is that i can't steer anymore with left stick.
You're definitely my favorite Session1.0 player. btw, It's cool to be able to see your mustache, they gonna add that as an option in the game? lol.
No moustache will be added to my character in the vanilla game haha maybe in a Mod on pc at some point :p
This was really helpful, thank you!
It was hard for a couple hours but now I can just pick up and play and it’s the best skate game of all time I’m not sure any will be better.
Feels like the character is really skating
until he hits a curb and literally dies doesn't even try to not fall over its always just straight up death
@@potato_duud6166 yeah I would like retract my statement this game is so incomplete I can’t believe I paid full price for it
@@brandonbarquet143 hahahaahhaah
It’s exactly the right feeling to play this game
Just purchased! this is a great guide to start.
i dont know why i never noticed the up/down option for legs lol thats a life saver an ive been playing over a year lol
I just punched a hole in my wall whilst trying to complete missions. I love this game🥲
hey, thanks for the setting, am enjoying session now that its updated, my main issue is simply getting used to the turning haha
Actually helped a lot man, thanks.
my problem is for the front/back foot setting i want the sticks swapped because I skate goofy and it feels insane to have the right stick be my back foot, tell me how to fix that or tell them to make that an option.
like my fav part about skaterXL is that if I do a fs flip then ride some and I do the exact same motion rolling fakie it does a fakie FS flip. it just feels way more right.
I been enjoying it on ps5 and it plays smooth . Lining up rails/ledges is abit unforgiving but I’m getting better
The guy in the beginning 🤣 "yessss!!!" "DON'T CLAP 🤨"
This game is frustrating as hell but so rewarding once you get decent at it. A lot of people give up after a day and come on UA-cam to call it crap.
Man I wish it was like skate where it was all on one analog stick tbh but still very fun learning!
