Training to improve a skill takes patience. It's a process that starts slowly, ensuring the pattern is engrained and building off of it bit by bit. It involves practicing the actual skill and training to improve its strength in the way it's used.
Some times athletes that are trying to change their technique expect to work on their spiking technique or strength and it'll "transfer" to their spike right away. But it takes discipline and hard work to be able to repeat the same pattern over and over, remember the feeling, and go slow, to then be able to pick up the speed and apply the strength gained. Some athletes can learn it quicker. These are the athletes that have developed many of the foundational skills for athleticism and are able to connect them easier. Others need more time to "rewire" the system. To develop the neuromuscular coordination of the specific skill.
The Throwing and Spiking Progression is something we go through to re-wire the athlete to learn the new skill. We start off with the basic movement of throwing and master the movements of hip and shoulder separation and how to USE it in the Spiking Sequence for power and injury prevention. Both of these are progressed together alongside strength training. The key is to be 👉aware👈of each movement and learn what it feels like to move them within the sequence.
These progressions are a key element in an upcoming program to develop better technique, and a healthy, powerful spike.
    Stay tuned.

Better at Beach has a lot of material about arm swing and jumping. They also have a arm swing and many other courses behind the pay wall. I recommend it!
