    7 minute video that can be summed up in 3 words: approach more upright lmao

    • @tomruopp1247
      @tomruopp1247 Рік тому +5

      Yea...he didn't really say how to do that though really except at one point of "drive with your hip not your head". That was the only real take-away for me. Also didn't really offer much evidence of what staying more upright gets you other than court vision (which is important). I think he could have also summed it up by saying: Do jump training.

    • @Lucalaurin
      @Lucalaurin Рік тому +2

      @@tomruopp1247 yeah he also only showed how to do it once and the camera angle was terrible so it was quite difficult to see it properly (why are they holding the camera just above the floor?)
      Also the example he showed is quite weird. The guy in the clip does get very good elevation but then does weird steps in the air and lands too far forward. The clip of the lady was cut very quickly so you can't tell how high she actually jumps.

    Funnily I was practising my approach at home today and I just realized the exact thing. Now seing this video I felt right about it. I am a middle and I always jumped forward never high and it never felt right. I have realized that I tend to initiate movement with my upper body, especially my lower back, instead of letting my hips and glutes do the work. It always felt inefficient. But nobody tells you what you are doing wrong.
    Well, unluckily I have only learned playing volleyball from the late age of 33 and I had a horrible movement pattern before due to three decades of inactivity. Very very difficult to get rid of that but today it felt so good to discover this new technique. And I think speed plays a big role as well. If you are too slow (my biggest Problem) you still wont achieve as much as possible. I find volleyball so difficult to learn but slowly and steadily it is getting better 💪

      it happens because you tilt your torso to an angle in order to have a higher reach/stronger hit, making your entire body rotate to that angle. This rotating helps you activate more muscles other than the shoulder when swinging.

      you should definitely fix that habit your body is in a terrible position, you'll only be generating power through your swing with your triceps instead of doing so with your entire body.

    • @yelenasimp2936
      @yelenasimp2936 Рік тому +2

      What the first person to reply to your said! You should definitely fix it because the wrong approach can really mess you up. You won’t be able to swing fully using your entire body and instead would have to rely on your shoulder and triceps for power which isn’t good for them at all. You’ll definitely injure yourself. Trust me, I would know since I was once like that. If you’re having to think before approaching because you’re still struggling with the footwork, I suggest just doing it over and over and over again until it’s like second nature. Drill it into your mind until it’s as easy as breathing (unless you have asthma then welp 🤷‍♀️)

    • @dustinberes6401
      @dustinberes6401 Рік тому +2

      I’ve never seen anyone switch from goofy foot. Some of the best jumpers are goody footed.
      For volleyball, it’s possible to be very successful if you do one thing very well.
      You have to land wide open to the setter. Nearly facing he setter. The problem with goofy footed approach is mainly that your hitting window is small. You will always be looking for the perfect set.
      Land wide open and snap your hips and you will do great.

      That possibly means that you are starting your approach to early. Try and wait a bit longer before running. Usually it is best to start the approach as your setter touches the ball. However this also depends on how they set.

      @@nikhilrajput332 if you are talking about serving, I think it's best to practice a lot so you become consistent. Developing good consistency will allow you to hit the ball with your hand more often. For example you could try tossing the ball up and doing your serving approach and catch the ball at your highest point.
