How Chiropractic Adjustments Really Work [Evidence based explanation]

- There is a common misconception that chiropractors put bones back into place. However, there is no evidence to support this overly-stated claim.
It is more likely that spinal manipulation (chiropractic adjustments) resets internal structures within facet joints. These are called synovial folds or meniscoid entrapments. Other explanations are that chiropractic adjustments break up adhesions in the surrounding soft tissues. In both explanations, you'll notice that the intent is to improve joint mobility to improve the function and posture of the spine.
Additionally, spinal manipulations may increase the circulation and blood flow to deep structures within the spine.
Finally, there are nervous system reflexes involved with chiropractic adjustments. These act as a reset in the spinal cord, relaxing tight muscles and relieving pain.
In this video, Dr. Jeffrey O'Guin, a St. Louis chiropractor, explains the evidence-based and science-backed understanding of how a chiropractic adjustment really works.

Great video. I’ve watched tons and tons of videos trying to explain what happens during chiropractic but this was by far the best explained.
Doc, do not forget the mechanoreceptors within the joints. They send signals to brain to REBOOT. Thanks.
So if your tense from training and gym work would a deep tissue massage be better than adjustment? Thanks.
Were can i find some evidence for the enhancement of joint mobility?
Most of this was take from the textbook, Rehabilitation of The Spine by Craig Liebenson. Hope this helps.
By assessment before and after adjustment.
A decent explanation but you have to admit there should be more detailed studies on the angles of force used and what is actually being affected in terms of joints, tendons, ligaments, etc. All guesses should be eliminated as much as possible in future studies or the filed won't be taken seriously by the orthodox medical community.
Does it work in hips?
There are adjutments that can be done in the hips. However, keep in mind that the hip and shoulder joints are different. They are ball and socket joints. Other therapies such as stretching, myofasical release, and exercise help too.
They don't. Go see a real doctor.
All medical doctors want to do is give you drugs and cut on you. Back surgery is a last resort.
Amazing insight!
And get drugged over and over, with the problem still not resolved? No, thanks.
