TRUTH about the Gulf of Tonkin Incident - Forgotten History

- Until the War on Terrorism, Vietnam was the longest conflict in American history. By the end of that war in April 1975, 57,939 would be killed or missing in action, with an estimated 250,000 South Vietnamese soldiers also dead. The Gulf of Tonkin incident sparked the great conflict that had been a series of small counterinsurgency missions. This event was the reason that President Lyndon B. Johnson justified going to Congress to appropriate military funding to expand American military involvement in Vietnam, starting a major conflict that would last until April 1975. Hosted by Colin D. Heaton. Forgotten History is a 10th Legion Pictures Production.

We all should be heeding the words of Smedley Butler. "The trouble with America is that when the dollar only earns 6 percent over here, then it gets restless and goes overseas to get 100 percent. Then the flag follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag". Of course this applies to every empire that has ever existed. There is little doubt in my mind that without Johnson, there would have been no Vietnam war. Kennedy was working to diffuse the tensions with the Soviets at the time and the MIC Eisenhower warned of wasn't going to allow it. One other significant fact: George Morrison, the commander of the fleet that was involved in Tonkin incident was father to Jim Morrison of the Doors 😉. Keep up the good work Colin and Happy New Year!
The Laurel Canyon …
I used to drive by Adm. Morrisons' home in Coronado, CA. while I was stationed at NAS North Island. It was just north of the Hotel Del Coronado. Jim's brother Danny had a bar in Coronado where I used to hang out often. I loved the fact that sailors were welcome there. It was one of the few places that we were welcome at all during those times.
So is this the most likely motivation for JFK assassination? I mean to think a president could get in the way of the country military complex that deserves its own documentary to see how far these companies go back and who is benefiting.

Myth: The rationale for US intervention in Viet Nam was based on a fraud.
Fact: The Tonkin Gulf incident was not a fraud. It was the motivating force behind the Tonkin Gulf Resolution.
This myth is based on the false belief that US involvement began with the USS Maddox and USS Turner Joy "false" torpedo attacks, known as the Tonkin Gulf incidents.
North Vietnamese General Vo Nguyen Giap himself admitted that torpedo patrol boats attacked the USS Maddox.
The USS Turner Joy incident is more controversial, but multiple eyewitness accounts of professional sailors, both enlisted and officers, confirm the events of that night.
The testimony of sailors involved in the Turner Joy incident confirms the presence of at least one PT boat (visually sighted), one torpedo wake (visually sighted), one searchlight (visually sighted) and one PT boat sunk (visually sighted).
The Commander of the Destroyer Task Force, Captain John J. Herrick, testified before Congress that the attack on the Turner Joy occurred.
Captain Herrick recommended the Silver Star be awarded to the Turner Joy's commanding officer, Commander Roger C. Barnhart, Jr. (He was awarded a Bronze Star instead).
The first US combat troops were committed to Vietnam in February, 1965, about seven months after the Tonkin Gulf incident.
Same as with 9/11
I am a history buff. I am also a retired Veteran. That means I have a LOT of time on my hands, and I fill a good bit of it engaging in the process I call "curing my own ignorance." Translated, that means I am 53 years old and I have always had a passion for learning which is still with me. It means I watch a LOT of these kinds of videos to go along with my reading.
With my credibility thus expressed, let me say that these "forgotten history" videos are some of the very best out there in the world today. When they hit on subjects that I already know, I see them hitting the points that most people are more comfortable hiding. That tells me that it is a good idea to listen to them when they are covering those subjects I do not yet know.
Great content, FH!!
Good episode. Sounds like Johnson was the patriarch of the military industrial complex. My uncle lost his life from Agent Orange it sickens me to think how many innocent people die so politicians make a buck. My cousin grew up without his father because of idiots like this
My uncle was shot down; it was very hard on my great grandparents. I'm sorry for your loss
It's disgusting
It's beyond abominable that a PRESIDENT would sell out their country and obviously, so many men's lives. The suffering endured by millions and millions of people over decades... for a bunch of money that he couldn't take with him...
Well, I'm pretty sure God is gonna take really good care of him. Hell awaits!!!

@@crashkeene Agent Orange use was approved by Kennedy in Vietnam after being assured that the British Imperialist had gotten away with destroying crops in their war to halt communism in their Burma colony. This decision to launch war is always a bipartisan one. I actually did a research paper on this back in high school. How many HS kids today have even heard of the Turner Joy, or the Maddox, let alone the Gulf of Tonkin? The United States federal government has a fairly atrocious track record of righteousness. Almost like the FFs were correct for believing in a tiny federal government, with very limited powers.

Funny, I’m in my 60’s, first heard about it in 2006; when I obtained a copy of The Terms cd, there’s a song called Gulf of Tonkin.
My parents were refugees to Australia in the 1970s. We are Vietnamese Catholic. I was always taught to be suspicious of Communists. This left me feeling quite conflicted, as I'm sure the Vietnam War left many others feeling conflicted. After the pandemic lockdowns were lifted I started traveling to North Vietnam to learn more about it's history. Initially I was intimidated by all the red Communist Vietnamese flags and the red Hammer and Sickle flags. But I learned that the people there just want to live their lives in peace, raise their families and be on friendly terms with everyone. After learning about the Gulf of Tonkin lie and LBJ things started making more sense. I can finally be at peace. Thanks for the great work you do. The truth will set us free 😊
Had a friend who went to Vietnam in 95 just after Clinton renewed relations.
His biggest problem was crowds following him emploring him to teach them English
Navy SEALs were in Vietnamese waters raiding supply ships way BEFORE the false flag BS Gulf of Tonkin incident. One of THE least likely characters to be an ex-SEAL was my ex-boss Gary, a large heavy set man with thick glasses and an awkwardly amiable goofy personality. Clinton had not declassified anything yet, and Gary's brother Kurt told me Gary was a SEAL. Gary told me about surveying the beaches and coasts of Cuba but gave almost no information about Vietnam, Cambodia or Laos, except that he was in that area. After Clinton declassified everything I got some truth in more detail. LBJ was essentially a walking talking piece of pig shit. We had been in and out of Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos since the late 1940s, in some capacity. LBJ just needed to make it legitimate, so the big money could come rolling in, so he sold a huge lie to the American people. It's like the bullshit that was reported about Iraq in the 2000s after 9-11.
Exactly. This is why Alex Jones debunks the bunk on his show to try to keep good people informed and out of nonsense world conflicts.
It's pretty easy for the enemy to make a successful attack on two towers and a pentagon shaped building when the agencies who are supposed to be keeping an eye on such things turn a blind eye on purpose, and run training exercises on the exact same scenarios on the same day for added confusion...
Preplanned. Today’s DC is a swamp but completely overflowing with BS & Lying. Nobody every talk about huge safe in 1 of them Towers full of gold bars that just disappeared to this day never been accounted for. You got a huge bunch of Engineers tell you towers could not come down like they said. Something is wrong.
My grandfather served in ww2 Korea and 3 tours in Vietnam before retiring in 1967 as a first sergeant with 1st cavalry airmobile. He and every other NCO thought westmoreland had shit for brains and that it was stupid to try to fight a body count war against the comms . They wanted to sweep the country and hold the territory but westmoreland and LBJ wanted to fly our men into the shit in helos and drop them off to fend for themselves. My grandfather ultimately died from agent orange - he refused to go to the American legion in town because westmoreland would go there and had donated his books to become the westmoreland library at post 28 In Spartanburg SC.

JFK's agenda
JFK said to the journalist Charles Bartlett in April of 1963 "we haven't a prayer of prevailing there (Vietnam) but I can't give up a piece of territory like that to the Communists and get the American people to reelect me".
In the spring of 63 he told Mike Mansfield that the only reason he kept us in Vietnam was his stake in a sixty-four election he said "I can't pull out until 1965 until after I'm reelected"
In 1963 I served as US Vice-consul in Perth, Australia. Perth was a two person post, sort of out of sight and out of mind, the farthest from Washington and the farthest from its own embassy: so remote that we didn't have a decoding machine. To decode classified telegrams we had to use a manual one time pad. That required two people. To add insult to injury we didn't get telegrams directly: they were dispatched to the Embassy in Camberra, copied and sent on to us through Australian post. Probably because of the time difference between Washington and Perth telegrams usually arrived in the middle of the night. The post office would telephone either the Consul or me.Whoever got the call had to rout the other out of bed, go to the office and together begin the laborious process of decoding. The most frustrating aspect was that practically all telegrams were copies of circular notices, like "don't issue a visa to Jacques Soustelle" that had no relevance to Perth. In a way neither did this one, but none the less it was profoundly disturbing. It notified us that North Vietnamese gunboats had attacked an American destroyer in the Tonkin Gulf. The Consul blurted out, "This means war". He went to question the veracity of the report, did it actually occur? Were war hawks looking for a "cassus belli? If they couldn't find one would they make one up?"
A President lies, how unusual!😂 Johnson made his millions here!
He was far worse than most, with few, if any, redeeming characteristics.
That bastard.
So many thousands of men died for nothing at all. The Captain of the ship that rammed an American ship was painted in Vietnamese colors which was Captain Morrison. His son was lead singer of the band The Doors, this the facts. Jim Morrison who didn’t even want to buried in America when he died and there’s no doubt someway he made a will or instructions on where he was to be buried and maybe even a will because they were at the height of their popularity.
We have been lied to about this BS war that they didn’t give our men what they needed to whip their asses. I don’t care what they say. Stockdale was a hero but when Perot made him his running mate when Perot was crushing George W.H. Bush as an independent and the democrats put up a nobody named Bill Clinton who because even though Perot was crushing Bush and Clinton was trailing far behind, Perot said himself he was blackmailed to leave the race because he was right about NAFTA and he did leave but ended up getting back in but he lost his momentum for stepping out and the promise Bush the Skull and Bonesman like John Kerry and his son George W. Bush who were both on Meet the Press by a healthy Tim Russert when he asked the question, “And what do you think the American will say when they know you’re both from Harvard Skull and Bones?” He asked both candidates were asked the same question even if it isn’t verbatim. They both tried to make it a joke regarding the secrecy. But it is an evil organization that Bush Sr. even was in. It wasn’t an accident that Perot was killed for some reason after the election and Tim Russert ended up dead a couple months after the second interview. LBJ was also per his secret lover behind JFK’s assassination. He told her and I watched say it. He said, “After tomorrow I won’t have to worry about Kennedy’s anymore.” His mistress said that. I feel bad for Lady Bird because like JFK, LBJ was a womanizer his entire life. It’s just sickening that JFK went to Texas to shore up the vote down there which is even the only reason he Johnson was on the ticket.
But the pictures of a younger George H.W. Bush down there as a CIA agent and soon to be head of the CIA when he told people, “I cant recall where I was that day” is a load of bullshit. And LBJ told the country who would accept the nomination or even consider running in 1968 because he had so much money by then by the days standard (which was still a weaker dollar than previously because we were and are controlled by central banking cabal known as the Federal Reserve in America which really the only thing Federal about is they used the word Federal in the name which this unconstitutional organization that Abraham Lincoln who we were in brutal debt after the Civil War, but he had started the greenback and never wanted to give up our sovereignty to a foreign cabal of bankers to get out of debt for which he took a bullet for from a FreeMasonic actor whose entire family were famous actors at the time. John Wilkes Booth who was a southerner but he also was a FreeMason and hated Lincoln. But it wasn’t until Woodrow Wilson who rarely made a big decision without first seeking Edgar Caycee, also known as the “Sleeping Psychic” who I personally saw the plaque in Madisonville Kentucky honoring this crackpot. After Wilson’s presidency he said the worst thing he regretted ever doing was handing over control of our financial system to this cabal owned central banking system with had it not been done, we would never had been able to let Nixon untie our currency to just the amount of gold we had. They started printing money in larger and larger amounts ever since and today we can’t even lay the interest on the National Debt. If we lose our dominance as the worlds Reserve Currency, people have no concept of the ramifications of this happening and they are trying to now start wars which follows the pattern since WW1 and 2 especially which is what pulled us immediately out of the Great Depression but this time we’ll be fighting even Allie’s who are sick of our dominance and stupid lies this government has laid on us. There was a space program but that ship in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago surely never left earths upper atmosphere with the computing power of a Texas Instruments calculator. You can hear a NASA astroNOT say, “I’d love to go back to the moon but unfortunately we LOST ALL THE INFORMATION ON HOW WE WENT THERE INCLUDING THE TELEMETRY DATA. This is the biggest lie I’ve ever heard. If it had happened and not been filmed by Stanley Kubrick who even changed things in the movie The Shining to room numbers that matched the Apollo flight numbers, Jack Nicholson’s character’s son is seen wearing an Apollo 11 pair of Pajama’s and the carpet he was playing on was in the pattern of the launch pad everywhere you look.
The sad part is they have young scientists trying to get through the imaginary Van Allen Radiation Belt which is really the firmament which even the Father of the American space program, a former NAZI has Pslams 3:1 or 1:3 on his grave marker and the verse of former agnostic says, “The firmament declares the glory of his handiwork.” The more technologically advanced we get the more we can use what was meant for evil to expose it.
So much has changed the original intent of some of the founding fathers. But more signers if the Declaration of Independence were Freemasons who at the 33rd degree serve Lucifer or as we know him, Satan who has many names but all this wireless communication the name of his that suits him best is, “The Prince and Power of the Air.”
It all comes down to who do you serve? “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Americans died on the Lusitania which dragged into WW1. Then allowing Pearl ti be attached galvanized the people who were hardcore anti war but that attack where we sunk 3 two men hand cranked mini subs that made it past the sub nets only to be sunk hours before the new radar station at Pearl in every movie that was ever made about it you have the one soldier calling and telling a superior officer that they spotted a large number of airplanes only to be told, “It must be all the B-17’s flying in from the mainland,” and what were the odds that every aircraft carrier was 400 miles out to sea? It wasn’t by accident. It was planned and they are what ultimately what won the war after decimating the Japanese war making abilities but they had been so afraid of the Americans by now that women were jumping off of cliffs with their babies killing both. So as horrible as the A-bombs were, had we invaded Japan’s mainland, the casualties would have been horrific so Harry Truman decided to drop small boy the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima and when they didn’t surrender they dropped and even larger one on Nagasaki. We had a third one but they signed the unconditional surrender on the Missouri which stands guard over battleship row in Pearl Harbor to this day. It last seen action in Desert Storm which was another war to make sure the Iraqi Denari which was worth 4 times as much as the American dollar. 9/11 another hoax. It’s what our “selected officials” seem to do best.

Welcome!
Thanks again FORGOTTEN HISTORY for another great video. My uncle served in Nam, I could never get him to talk about it, I think he erased that part of his memory to cope with it.
I asked a Vietnam veteran with whom I had worked, in Manhattan in 1979, if he thought that the movie Apocalypse Now was an accurate portrayal of the war. After what seemed to me like a long pause, he answered: "Vietnam was not a war. Johnson called it the Vietnam Crisis. We never declared war on Vietnam. Yah, Apocalypse was a pretty good rendition of Vietnam." The Kennedy and Johnson administrations did not want to declare war because they did not want to hand the management of the conflict over, to the military. Why? Perhaps they were afraid of a 3rd World War escalation, who knows? This was the reason that many people in the military said that they were fighting with one hand tied behind their back. The Air Force had to get permission from Washington before they attacked a target, every single time. The bureaucrats in Washington mismanaged the conflict until it became a protracted Hell for the unfortunate grunts, on the battlefield.
Best explanation I ever heard about VN, I am 70 yo.
The U.S. has not declared war since WWII , because we can't. As members of the United Nations we cannot declare war against a member nation.
A declaration of War requires a vote of Congress. Truman fired MacArthur over the question of Presidential authority over the military. General "Waste More Land" was in Charge.
That was the same reasoning "Generals havng one hand tied behind their backs." that Hitler used to explain German's defeat in world war one. Yes if only more destruction and death had occurred victory could have been declared and huge parking lot and airstip created for US Military victory parades could have been built. Hitler he too was a war Veteran and blamed Bolsheviks, Jews and the Weimar Republic for tying the hands of the Generals. After he was a corporal caring messages for Generals that became Commander and Chief on a suicide mission that brought Glory to the German People.

Great research Colin, “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”
Never forget the USS LIBERTY! Another example of how LBJ disregarded the lives of American sailors.
Johnson was invested in Bell Helicopter, not Hughes. Bell was a Texas company.
Hughes won the LOH competition with the OH-6 over Bell's OH4. The OH58, a derivative of the OH-4, was later procured in greater numbers because Johnson was invested in Bell.
he had all those stocks, well his wife did
@@FORGOTTENHISTORYCHANNEL I was a mechanical design engineer for Allison in the late 80s and 90s and worked on the Model 250 engine family. These engines powered all of the LOH entries (hiller had an entry as well, the OH-5). It was widely known around the Model 250 product line that Johnson used his corrupt influence to mostly squeeze Hughes out of that business and redirect it to Bell even though they lost the LOH competition. Do a little more research and you will find that to be true. He was not a fan of Howard Hughes and Texas was home to Bell Helicopter in Arlington plus, he was invested in Bell and owed them political favors. Johnson was from Texas. I have actually been in the Bell plant at Arlington as a result of my work on the Model 250 program. I have also been to Bell's facility in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada several times. I was heavily involved in the design and development of the derivative Model 250-C40B (powered the Bell 430), the 250-C47B (powered the Bell 407), the 250-C30R/3 (powered the uprated Bell OH-58D Kiowa Warrior), the 250-C47M (powered the McDonnell Douglas -- formerly Hughes -- MD600), among others. As a result, I learned about the history of these programs from old-timers in the department.
I was a child when this happened. I can remember as clear as day my grandfather, a life long “ yellow dog” Democrat, cursing LBJ and swearing he’d lied about something. Looks like he was on to something.
For those not familiar with the term "yellow dog Democrat" it goes back to a time when the country wasn't so polarized so it was possible for people to select a candidate based on something other than party affiliation. Yellow dog Democrats where those who were so partisan they would vote for a "yellow dog" (mongrel dog) if he was on the Democrat ticket rather than voting for any Republican. So for Scott's uncle to to curse LBJ was like a college professor today saying "Let's go Brandon".
And " blue dog " democrats were who?. Eisenhower gave the French 1 mil. To fight NV Dec. 15 1954
One million dollars in 1954 is equal to 11 million today - multiply that times eight and you can buy a new F-15.
Blue Dog Democrats are supposedly "centrist" and fiscally conservative Dems who were said to be "choked blue" by the leftists in the party. It's more likely they just saw the writing on the wall, knowing their districts were voting conservative so they pretended to be both conservative and Democrat. One whose district I lived in during the Clinton years (in Central Texas) claimed to be a "conservative coalition builder" while in reality he backed Clinton and communism 100% of the time, banking on keeping his constituents clueless. @@paganlife1373

I sincerely wonder what LBJ's body count is for all the money he made. Wonder what he made per human life...what an evil person. Just looking at him in all my history books since I was little, he always gave me the creeps. In other words, he's the perfect politician. No Bueno.
Again, another great video! Thanks! Keep up the great work!
The Decision to go to war is a bipartisan one of the capitalist class as a whole.

An American Hitler-!
Mr Collin,
Thank You for your service and continued support. I really enjoy your historical narratives. Because you are a Marine and American Patriot your ambition to tell the Story has more emphasis. Thank You again.
Once again brother, you are doing a fantastic job here. Please keep up the great work
Thank you so much 😀
Wonderful job revealing the truth about a war that did not have to be. I subbed!
Your opening statement re-emphasized what my father said when I was a kid about Johnson's financial interest in the Vietnam war. My dad served in the air National Guard and was told by someone in the upper ranks that the reason why the F-111 was pushed so hard by Macnamara As a fighter/bomber Was because ladybird Johnson owned stock in Rockwell. Perhaps that could be the subject for a future episode.
I really like your channel. You tell stories that no one else will, keep up the good work.
Glad you like them!
In 1978 I served on USS Turner Joy DD951. At the time of the Gulf of Tonkin Incident I was seven years old; neither I nor any of my shipmates were in the crew on that day. But like all ships with storied pasts, the TJ had a tradition of remembering and passing on significant events in the ship's history. The oral tradition that I recall was close enough to what was presented here. The best of my recollection is that it was generally considered to be rather hazy exactly what had happened, and there were many theories. Clearly there were agendas to pursue, and fortunes to be made. Recall that it was in January of 1963 that Eisenhower delivered his farewell address in which he warned of the "military industrial complex." Case in point here, and follow the money from Gulf of Tonkin right up to the present. That's not to say that we do not need a strong defense, we do because there are actual bad guys in the world. The problem is that some of them control our levers of power.
I’m starting to think that we’ve been lied to. About a lot of things.
Unfortunately, this is just the tip of the iceberg
Starting to think ? Where in the world have you been?
Why I quit going to school. Had tutoring. Refuse lies.
Lol you havent a clue....
Wrong. we have been lied to about everything.
How about doing a few "Most Corrupt" episodes revealing who gained the most from this war - and for that matter, other wars? Thanks again for sharing the truth about these events in history!
Thanks Colin . 🙏
Johnson is not buying anything where he is now.
Oh man, just started this, I know this is going to be great! One side note, Admiral Morrison, father of Jim Morrison, lead singer for the great Rock group, The Doors, was the commanding officer of the carrier task force in the Gulf of Tonkin during this "event". Also, if you look up Jim Morrison on wikipedia you'll see a picture of a young Jim, and Admiral Morrison on the bridge of an aircraft carrier. Another side note: I've been on two aircraft carriers, and the Captain's chair on both were covered in a luxurious sheep skin. I don't know it that's standard, but one was when I was on active duty in the mid 80's, the USS Enterprise, and the second was the museum ship USS Midway in 2017 on a family vacation.
As a Norwegian, I can confirm that Norwegian boats with Norwegian crew were hired by CIA to run ops along the coast of North Vietnam during the time period you describe. A shameful event in our common history.
That's interesting, I knew Sweden was more aligned with the Northern Vietnamese but never considered the other Nordics

Thanks for another informative and interesting video
My grandfather grew up across town from westmoreland In Spartanburg. While westmoreland went to West Point my grandfather fought in the battle of Luzon , the Berlin airlift , & the Korean War with 1st cavalry . My grandfather was with the welcome party at an Khe . He served 3 tours before retiring as a first sergeant with 1st cavalry airmobile division. My grandfather said that westmoreland and his body count tactic was asinine and that it was demoralizing to the enlisted men to go and fight and seize an objective only to pull out at night . The enlisted men , NCO & combat experienced Officers wanted to sweep the territory holding land as they went like was common in warfare . In the end my grandfather died from agent orange poisoning but I will always remember westmoreland as the idiot from the east side of spartanburg SC - a man completely disconnected with the reality of warfare and the experiences of the boots on the ground
Thanks for doing your homework and the final presentations.

@@FORGOTTENHISTORYCHANNEL yeah well its refreshing considering we've been lied to our whole lives.
I knew the war in Vietnam had started with fishy circumstances, and that Johnson was corrupt, but hearing of his investment portfolio is new. It all makes sense and is not all that different from present day politicians benefiting from the military industrial complex.
Thanks for uploading. Until now i had no idea how heavily invested lbj was in "defense" contractors. - 'Nam-era Marine
Will there be a show on either Operation Just Cause or Operation Acid Gambit?
Maybe
I was in the USMC from 1961-1965 with a secret clearance. We heard about the Gulf of Tonkin attack and the next day heard that it was two USN ships shooting at each other.
Awesome channel!
Thank you!
Good information. I would like to see a video about U.S. involvement before the Gulf of Tonkin. Maybe something about MAAG-V. There is not much out there that I can find about operations before the Battle of Ap Bac. Also, as followup to this one, you might do an episode about the Pueblo Incident.
Luke of We Are Change pressed Henry Kissinger,"Gulf of Tokin was a false flag operation." Kissinger chuckled and admitted it was. I know I shouldn't have but I celebrated when Kissinger passed away.

To understand Vietnam, one should research back to wwii.

in Vietnam.
However, France wanted its colony in Vietnam restored and the Vatican shared this policy. Many Vietnames were Catholics and the Church was invested in Vietnam. US policy favored the French and ultimately Civil War broke out. The Eisenhour administration through Foster Dulles were anti communist and supported France. In 1954 the French suffered a crushing defeat at Diem Bien Phu and it caused France to lose interest in the war as the country was domestically divided.
Subsequently, there was an International Conference on Vietnam, which called for elections to decide Vietnam's future. The elections were never held, as the US knew the communists would win the election. Frances role diminished after their crushing loss in 1954 and the US substituted for the French.
Vietnam was divided at the 17th parallel and the Viet. Cong became an increased hostile revolutionary force in the south. The US supplanted the French and became the primary provider of support for the South. A bloody Civil conflict began in the south armed by North Vietnam. US advisers began to play a dominant role in as advisers. advisers. The Catholic minority controlled the country in the South. The communist Insurrection was bloody and violent. There were also Vietnamese nationalists opposed to the govt. in the south. The conflict simmered through the early 1960s.
President Kennedy had specific plans to withdraw our people from the south. After Kennedy's assassination, Lyndon Johnson voided Kennedys national security directives.
For more expert information read Bernard Fall's accounts of Vietnam.
Communist China acquired nuclear weapons in 1965. The US currently has friendly relations with Vietnam an access to its harbors. Vietnam has historically been an opponent of China. Chinese ambitions in the south China Sea are opposed by both the US and Vietnam.
In 1964 the US was actively supporting commando incursions into the coast of North Vietnam.
The. MADDOX AND TURNER JOY WERE ON AN ELINT PATROL IN INTERNATIONAL WATERS MAPPING THE EOB OF THE NORTH. SUCH PATROLS ARE NORMAL ACTIVITIES BY MANY COUNTRYS. IN THE 1960S THE US CARRIRTS WERE REGULARLY MONITORED BY NEARBY SOVIET TRAWLERS.
EITHER THE TURNER JOY OR MADDOX HAD A TEMPORARY SUPP. RAD ON BOARD MONITORING NORTH VIETNAMESE COMMUNITIONS. THE FINAL ACTION REPORT BY THE TEAM IN THE SUPP.RAD WAS WELL OVER 100 PAGES, PROBABLY CONTRIBUTED IN PART TO THE "PENTAGON PAPERS".

In the truth book now: Johnson Mass murderer
Thanks for the lesson thanks for your service.
I was a U.S. Navy combat cameraman in Vietnam between 1968 and 1970 and was ordered aboard USS Jouette which was in the process on interdicting a communist trawler. The trawler was off South Vietnam near the DMZ. The ship was going to board the trawler if that ship entered South Vietnamese Territorial Waters. A previous trawler had been interdicted by a U.S. Navy surface ship and a shot from the U.S. ship's guns had blown off the trawler's pilot house. It was learned that the trawler had a thousand kilos of explosives ready to blow up if it was boarded. The denotator for the explosives was in the pilot house.
My job was to board the trawler along with the EOD (explosive ordnance demolition) team to photograph the search for the detonator.
Suddenly one afternoon the ships' loudspeaker (1MC) broadcast - "Battle Stations, Battle Stations - this is no drill!" There were high speed torpedo boats approaching.
I ran to the bridge with my camera and the skipper said to me. "I want pictures of those boats. I don't want to be called a liar again." The skipper of USS Jouette was Captain Robert C. Banhart. He had been the skipper of USS Turner Joy during the Tonkin Gulf Incident!
The torpedo boats retreated into a squall and we lost them.
Obviously, Captain Barnhart was sure that there had been an attack on his ship in the Tonkin Gulf Incident.
The human mind is a funny thing. You can make it believe almost anything.
The gulf of Tonkin was a false flag. It’s a shame that we had to go to war over such shit. So many American men lost their lives and also Vietnamese civilians and south Vietnamese soldiers, ARVN.. Lyndon B. Johnson should be ashamed
I’m pretty sure he’s being barbecued nicely.
Thank you for the video, I’ve been looking for accurate history on the Gulf of Tonkin .
Glad it was helpful!
Those were Dark Days in our country's history. IMO, as the country woke up to the facts of the actions taken by 'the corrupt leaders of our country' at the time; their 'visceral animus' towards these leaders unjustly spilled over onto our troops returning back from a war they valiantly fought as Patriots of our country. For me that is the greatest travesty of this war. For the 58,281 KIA's, their pain is over. For the 153,372 WIA's and all other veterans of the war the struggles of overcoming the experiences of war and most painful the unjust hateful welcome they received when they returned, still to this day wears heavy on many of their minds and hearts. I know many of these courageous men. Their pain is real. What kind of society turns against it's soldiers, patriots, with such venom as was displayed by that generation? Let us Vow and Pray with all sincerity that this will never happen again. Let us collectively hold the corrupt accountable and never victimize the innocent again.
always great coverage on your subjects, best wishes, Paul

Wasn't Stockdale Ross Perot's running mate when he ran for President. Ross Perot would make a good video for you.
Johnson, Westmoreland, and McNamera were a sorry bunch. I had to go before the draft board in my hometown of Carrollton, Georgia. I was a freshman in college, and thank God, they gave me a college deferment. I disapproved of that war and honestly think that I would have gone to Canada to avoid it. God bless those men who served, many of my friends died or were wounded. I wore a black arm brand and participated in peace rallies at my college. It was a senseless war much like Afghanistan and Iraq.
Thank you so much for this information. I have searched the truth regarding this subject. I knew some of this but I learned a lot as well. I respect you. Please keep doing what you are doing! Humanity must be freed. It starts with our country. Thank you for all you do!

Has there ever been major conflicts the US was involved in that wasn't precipitated by some incident that was, at least, eyebrow raising? Lusitania, Pearl H, Tonkin, various UN situations, etc.
Was going to say the same thing. When you dig into history, you can see the military complex has used the same steps and tactics to get the US involved into every conflict and war
Don’t forget the Spanish American war, started over our blowing up our own ship and blaming the Spanish (the Maine)
I didn't know about that and was definitely an interesting event to research. Thank you.
I don't know, the Revolution, Barbary wars, 1812 and WW2 were fairly cut and dry
@@steviechubbs5238 There is a strong suspicion that the raid on Pearl Harbor was known about in advance. I don’t buy it. There was too much destruction to have been allowed to happen.
My father served one tour in Vietnam 1968-1969. He was a master sergeant in the Air Force, and just before he left, he got promoted to senior master sergeant. He began his military service just before Pearl Harbor as an Army infantryman, and fought the Japanese in New Guinea. He later transitioned into the Air Force.
In Vietnam, he was stationed at Nah Trang AFB. He ran a sub-depot that distributed beer for the entire region. His boss was a captain that was never on-site, with an office elsewhere on the base.
Soon after arriving, my dad got a visit from a high ranking GS civilian, who offered my dad a chance to make a lot of money (in the hundreds of thousands) by being part of a beer black market. My dad was honest, and he also did not want to risk his 27-year military career. He told the guy to get out immediately and to not ever come back. The guy was surprised and said "Your predecessor worked with us, and got rich! Won't you reconsider?"
My dad's job was to move all the various beers that came in like clockwork, via big contracts set up by some procurement officer on the mainland. The beers were distributed across all major brands, which all used aluminum cans, except for one. That brand still used steel cans, which began to rust on the inside by the time they got to Vietnam. None of the supply sergeants for the boys in the boonies wanted that brand, but my dad had to get rid of it, because more was already on the way, per government contract.
So my dad said to each of the sergeants, "I'll give you as much of the good beer that you want, but you've got to take your share of rusty beer too, because I have to get rid of it." And they all agreed that was fair.
One day, a Korean captain showed up and demanded only the good stuff, and refused to take any rusty beer. My dad refused to comply, and the Korean said that it was not a request, it was an order. My dad replied that he was in the United States Air Force, and was not obligated to follow orders from a Korean captain.
The Korean stormed out in a fury. Ten minutes later, my dad got a phone call from his USAF captain, telling him to fully comply with the Korean, who would soon be returning.
My dad asked his captain "Is that a direct order, Sir?" "Yes, it is, sergeant!" My dad complied.
So, what's that tell you about what the USAF and Korean captains were involved in?
My dad often said that anyone who volunteered for a second tour was one of two things: Either he was a super-patriot, or he was involved in some corrupt money-making activities.
A short while after my dad left Vietnam, he read in the Air Force Times about how Chief Master Sergeant Higgins had been caught embezzling $2,000,000 from the Saigon enlisted men's club, which he ran. The government was only able to retrieve half the funds. Higgins was court martialed down to private, lost all his retirement pay, and spent years in Leavenworth. My dad was so happy, exclaiming "Well, they finally got one of the bastards!"
Can't help but wonder if this is one of the reasons LBJ helped eliminate JFK
I always believed and heard rumors that the Gulf of Tonkin incident was shady at best, but I never knew any of the details. Thanks for this video. It's been a real eye-opener! Do you have any videos about how America originally became involved in Vietnam? From what I understand, it was simply because JFK didn't wan't to appear "weak" even though all advisors (including military advisors) advised not getting involved.
We do not have that video yet.

Another great one, Mr. Heaton. For anyone interested in sort of "The Powers That Be" behind Vietnam, I would recommend the Errol Morris film, "The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from Life of Robert Strange McNamara." It's bits of I believe a 3 day interview with McNamara. In it, he is genuinely troubled by the way the war was handled, and even admits that more than likely is a war criminal. There's a book by the same name. He discussed the Tonkin Gulf incident and admits second day's attacks were made up. It is truly a phenomenal interview.
I dealt with McNamara (who, my hand to God) actually lived at the Watergate at the time, not long before he died in the course of my research on the Kennedy assassination. I found him to be extraordinarily disciplined in his thinking, yet generally polite, yet curt at times. A very no nonsense person. By that time, it was difficult to see how this frail old man could have been such a decisive figure, but I must admit, I admire his willingness to take full responsibility when he needs to.
Again, to Mr. Heaton and everyone behind the scenes, another outstanding achievement.
Thanks. In my book, "Above the Reich" during my interview with Gen. Curtis E. LeMay, you can see what he thought of McNamara during WW II all the way through the 1960s.
