@@mikeherrera5302 But in all honesty...would you really want to know it? It would only be MORE horror. We could never fully document everything that happens in conflict. Just take the Russia/Ukraine war as an example.
I don`t find it fantastic at all. It doesn't consider so many details we already know. Gerry Docherty & Jim Macgregors view on this war is quite the opposite of this version here. As long as the old story is told, nothing will change. The told story is: Germany starts the war. But it isn't that easy! Germany's not an actor, it is reacting. You might read a lot of books and listen to many historians, but to get a close look on historic truths, you must also read the inconveniant historians and and one must ask oneself whether these alternative views are not plausible. Without learning facts from books like "Hidden history", "Prolonging the agony" and "Wiederkehr der Hasardeure" (transl. return of the hasardeurs), you cannot break up encrusted victors' history and make the truths visible. The only way to prevent history from repeating is to understand the mechanisms that led to mobilisation and declaration of war. The back story is the linchpin.
Back in mid 1990s, I’d spend my summers reading the encyclopedia about world wars, including ww1. I was engrossed with the story and the photos i would see in the pages of our two volumes of encyclopedias. When I was a boy, the men who fought in WWII were in their 50s and 60s, and I talked to several old men in their 70s and 80s who had fought in the "Great War." Some of them knew men in their youth who fought in the American Civil War. It's crazy to think that I "knew the men who knew the men" who encapsulate so much defining history of our nation. This style of history documentary always reminds me of the old-school History Channel. I couldn't get enough of it growing up. This was before it became a channel of alien theories and ghost hunting...
I feel like the scale of destruction in WWI was lost on me as a kid when I first learned about it. It wasn’t until I started learning about earlier conflicts from just a few decades prior that I really started to understand just how unfathomable it must have been.
I feel gross watching this without paying money. It’s easy to tell this was made with love and a passion for history. In a time when fewer and fewer people appreciate the past, this channel shines like a beacon in the darkness. That sounds dramatic but I don’t care.

All about this video is perfect: the script, the narration, the map and, undoubtedly, the soundtrack. It was so skillfully prepared that I have just found myself watching it for the fourth time in a year. It is not only the best documentary about the WW1 but also should be placed among the best documentaries of all time and topics. As a learner of English, I would like to express special gratitude to the magnificent narrator of this channel as he manages to keep a decent pace while enabling even non-natives to catch his every word.
Wow! Now THIS is superior content! I appreciate the production value and (clearly) hours of labor, love and effort that went into the making of this history program. The way you put your videos together is SO well done. You are the history teacher we all need. Looking forward for a ww2 video and that is going to go very viral. Great Job Epic!
Unfortunately this includes some very distorted propaganda. The Lusitania was carrying munitions and it's sank because the munition blew up. In 1980 the admiralty warned off salvage crews because there was still live ammunitions on the wreck. The ship sank in 15 minutes very close to land because while there was a small entry hole for the torpedo there was a very large one on the other side where the munitions exploded. Churchill was part of orchestrating this deception.
Big fan of this history, spent a winter reading the entire book by John Keegan on this subject and it was time well spent. Your progam is excellent, especially considering how much material you covered in the span of just over an hour. People tend to gloss over the Dardanelles and the Armenian tragedy, so that was much appreciated. Thank you for putting this all together in an easily digested format. I've subscribed to your channel and I'm enjoying your other content.
It wasn't a genocide. The Armenians betrayed and attacked us in the war. Although they were belong to the Ottoman Empire, they supported Russia. Therefore, we forced them to migrate, the main point of immigration was Anatolia cities not desert. They suffered as a result of immigration yes, so sorry I wish it hadn't. But what else could be done to treason during a war? We also suffered. Most importantly, there was no any genocide. Western media always full in hypocrisy...
Visited Vimy Ridge, in France, with a mate, back in the 80s. Was incredibly moving. We opened, and drank, a bottle of wine, in tribute to all the young lads, on both sides, who fought there. Massive graveyards all over the area......particularly poignant were the gravestones with the Star of David engraved on them, in the German section. Little did they know what was to come.
A great summary of World War I, when I learned it at school 20 years ago I found it complicated, this visualization helped me to understand better what the main phases were and what strategic concepts did both the Allies and the Central Powers pursue and why the war had such an important impact on modern Europe and today's politics...A big thank you to the whole team for this outstanding work!!! Best regards from Poland, one of the emerging states after the war :) We value the 2nd Republic, Marshal Pilsudski and commemorate it's creation each year on the 11th of November

Congratulations on producing one of THE greatest documentaries about the First World War. Never before have I seen such a clear comprehensive film that manages to cover the entire history of the War across all fronts in a simple straightforward no nonsense manner. This must've taken months of planning and preparation with many drafts and redrafts in order to boil it down to this excellent presentation. It would be great if you could also break it down into 3 or 4 parts that would make it easier to absorb- the current length is a bit daunting! Well done and thanks for this fantastic resource.
This channel reminds me of the docu-series back in the 70's titled, "The World at War". Helped me with my history studies. Very disturbing. History has always been my passion. 🌻
To my discredit, I never knew much about WW I. But this utterly gripping documentary has helped to change that. It's an edge-of-your seat thriller accented by stunning casualty figures, perpetual Allied setbacks, and the pointlessness of it all. It gobsmacked me like little else I've learned about in history, Most of all, I was amazed at how truly 'world' this war was. Thank you, Epic History TV, for your substantial contribution to educating people like me about the true scope and cost of war, one whose wages are still being paid today.
Moral of the story: Germany is a beast. It looked like from the start till the end they won most battles and attacks and caused the most damage even though the allies had more troops and basically the whole world on their side. As an Austrian I'm not ashamed to say that Germany carried this fight for us. When I saw The US declared war on Germany I knew it was game over though. I took WW1 in school as it's a huge part of our history, but some things were forgotten so I just wanna thank the people who made this incredible film for making it so detailed and visually amazing :)

Such a brutal war. Ww2 was heavier in losses and just as horrific, but WWI is so sobering. Just the fact of surviving the beginning to the end of the war is so limited.
Yeah WW1 was, I think, the first war where people started realize that there’s no glory in war. The war started with men so eager to fight for their country and ended with soldiers to had witnessed hell on earth.
Ive always wondered why world war 1 was named like that. I only read and understood the war in Europe and never understood how massive and how every continent was invovled in the war. Great video! Learned something new!
The best documentary on this conflict to date. I insist that we need one like this one about the second world war. Congratulations to @epichistorytv, the way you deliver this content is paramount.
This is just mind-boggling. Couldn't keep track of so many battles, territorial gains and losses and the casualties. Amazing video. Keep up the great work 👏👏👏
I only recently discovered this channel. And as a lover of history, just in awe. The Napoleon series in particular is amazing. Hope to see more series of famous battles. Say for example the American civil war, ww2, ect.
I feel like if someone who fought in WW1 watched this they would simultaneously be happy that we haven't forgotten, but also sad that their roughly 4 years of suffering had been condensed into an hour long video.
They would more likely be amazed at how an hour long video could summarize a war like that. What is crazy is an American could have seen the Spanish American war, ww1, ww2, Korea, and Vietnam in their lifetime. They probably would have served in at least one of them and they would have seen how technology in warfare advanced
This video was absolutely amazing. A high level treatise of the play-by-play in just over an hour. A massive amount of information condensed so far it's nothing less than solid. Anyone who tries to study ww1 would be blessed with this video, giving such a perfect outline, as a coatrack of sorts, to hang any finely detailed account of specific battles or events upon. A masterpiece of educational internet media.
Imho story of WW1 more interesting than WW2 but unfortunately where I live (Russia) people know nothing about this and somebody thinks that WW1 was Napoleon wars. I think that because Russia lost that war and our goverment doesnt like talk about defeats. I hope when Putin will lose and Russia again become democratic we will talk more about this. Peace 🕊
What surprised me is how quickly Romania entered the war and lost almost instantly despite that they were awarded more ground at the end, it is also amazing how Switzerland and Netherlands were just chilling during the war and finally what a great show of respect the allied showed to Manfred von richtofen i didn't except that but what a good history moment.
Well, Romania indeed had a troublesome war experience in WW1, but we also had some very important victories on the eastern front at Mărăști, Mărășești and Oituz, against the German Empire which pushed them back in Transylvania. But not long after that, since the Russian Empire had signed an armistice, Romania was basically left alone in the Eastern Front, so continuing would've been a complete suicidal fight for nothing. We have decided to fight again near the end of the war for a little bit more, after recieveing help from the french troops and commanders, which resulted in a few more victories on the front in Transylvania. In the end, Romania did not have such an impactfull role as other and can easily be called "useless" in the war, but we have achieved our goals in this war, which were also one of the main reasons we have joined the war in the first place. If we look just at our most important victories in this war, then we had some impact, but not much indeed.
Tsar Nicholas II of Russia ,King George V of UK, and Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany were all cousins , their grandmother were Queen Victoria. Kaiser Wilhelm II once said “If our grandmother, Queen Victoria was alive, she would have stopped us cousins from going into war”
The thing is that none of those kings wanted to go to war. Their generals and diplomats dragged them into it. We overrate the power of monarchs during this era.
Thanks for this animated story! One minor suggestion (actually major in Serbia which was never able to recover from the losses in the Great War) - after the offensive in Northern Greece, led by Serbian troops, the allies didn't stop as your animation shows. Serbs rather continued, as their homes were really nearby (a couple of days march) and they liberated all the territory up to Italy. Again, compared to the entire war bring animated, this isn't anything big.
Greek soldiers said(when Serbian soldiers recovered and together with them went back to Salonica front) that the march of the Serbian army was faster than the pace of their horses, thats how much they loved their country and were willing to sacrifice in order to reclaim whats theirs.
@@StromtrooperV2 Do not forget that the Serb army were quasi-destroyed after 1915, only 120 000 soldiers escaped on 400 000, French mainly equiped and led them (like the famous Franchet d'Esperey). The ferocity of serbians warriors with the French tactics and support were perfect.

Just when you hear 150000 casualties and think that's way too much, then you hear 240000 casualties in one battle, on one side and you ask "with such losses, how did they not run out of men?"
By 1913 Europe's total population (including Russia) was 498 million. Around 60 million men were mobilised, with total losses being somewhere around 9 million soldiers. Another 9 million were taken as prisoners. So, that's 18 million, and 21 million men were wounded. So that's 39 million casualties in total. Considering that the total number of fighting men was 60 million, they weren't that far off from running out of men lol. And of course that doesn't even include civilian deaths.

Family feud 💀
Yap even Nicholas and George looks kind of same face
It was like playing for them.
@@310Juicemanif they had world of tanks none of this would have happened
The thing is that none of those kings wanted to go to war. Their generals and diplomats dragged them into it. We overrate the power of monarchs during this era.
Love this so much. The music, the narration, the visuals, the pace, detail, everything. Well done.
Best WW1 explaining ever lol it literally tells you every battle, every date, every country and even makes it entertaining. Keep up the work
Thanks for this animated story!
@@inhocsignovinces1327 no france tactics,,,only Serbs Djenerals..Vojvoda Zivojin Misic,Duke R.Putnik and others,,because Frnce sand a fake artilery granates, and its nothing for support, and must reparate granats in midle of war..but Serbia is only whu go and take for 1 day 20 km or miles front...Thats the spirit of warior, france giv boat to go on Krf and recover them..nothing realy
This is one of the best history documentsties ive ever watched. Thanks
I knew a bit of this war. But this channel learned me everything of this war. Thanks for creating this.
You teach way better than my own history teacher
Just when you hear 150000 casualties and think that's way too much, then you hear 240000 casualties in one battle, on one side and you ask "with such losses, how did they not run out of men?"
Rewritten history... the "his"-story doesn't even make sense as you pointed out... but empty heads buy into any BS.
one general said these are commoners we have more of them.
@@jasoncropley5334 I think you're looking at combined military and civilian losses of 16 million.
@@JFDA5458 Yeah you're right. Plus the 9 million deaths were military personnel rather than just soldiers
Mulțumim! All your effort to make this bazzing detailed video's deserves the best!!!

I thought I knew much about world war 1 .
There were many revelations here for me as well read as I thought I was .
The first real comprehensive digestible documentary I have seen about World war 1 . A usually hard slogging topic but made very palatable.
Thank you .
