had something simular on a 2001 maxima (transmission RE4F04B). except it would shift, but randomly when put in park, and come back later, it wouldn't start because it didn;t think it was in Park, workaround was to jiggle the shifter or put in N. 4+ years later when I am going to sell the car, decided I need to fix this. so initially I thought it was the Neutural safty switch. and I changed that, , still has issue. hummm. so I am thinking if the bushing fell out but the cable is still connected it might be the cause. and when I checked it, it was. the cable was still on the shifter and hand not come off . but because the bushing was missing it wasn't pushing the shift arm on transmission far enough always to tell the TCM it was in Park, IT thought i was in R. After researching this I am learning that Nissan and GM this is a very common issue.
