I’d still take a Mk4 St over it’s rivals. Seems like a absolute blast to drive, sounds awesome and I think is the best looking. However I must say I’ve heard not so many great things about the 7 speed auto so definitely the Manual for me
I bought an Auto one and have driven the manual one too! If you were to buy a Focus ST and asked me weather to get it in Auto or Manual, I'd just say what comes to mind Get the Auto if you live in an area with lots of Traffic and don't want to keep shifting the manual back and forth using the clutch and want that feeling of driving an expensive car Get the Manual if you want to have those hot hatch performance car vibes and if you want to be having fun with your energy. Just choose what you desire and what makes you happy
Good summary Alex - would you take this auto over the incoming auto i30n ? I30n auto for me - dct is suppose to be a peach and weekend tracking a possibility
Really wish Ford US would bring the Focus ST to the States - I'd buy one and I know so many people that dislike the civic Type R styling and the Veloster N is ugly too. The Golf GTI is down on power, handling, fun, and looks as well. I think Ford would sell a ton of Focus STs, especially with the available Manual and Auto transmission options.
Unfortunately,, Ford has the differentiate the ST vs its STLine. St is almost 30% over the cost of ST Line. They need to make it much more aggressive than the st line.
11-12L/100km? 🤣 Using it as a daily, with a lot of spirited backroad driving I'm at 8.8L/100km, jesus under what conditions have you tested the car? On a racetrack? 😂
In a world of endless traffic lights and stop start traffic the auto is no brainer. This will be a good car when new but best moved on at 50,000 km before it starts with the usual Ford niggles and trim falling apart. At $53K DAP for an ST SA Manual, I would go the i30 NP, has the same 136kW/t and probably build quality. But in reality I'll still take a Mini Cooper S Hatch instead.
No way to compare a car with more than 100 years of history to a Hyundai, a brand that was never there till recently. It should be noted too that it is German made.
i30N no contest, Ford ask more or roughly the same without the features or quality. Arrogance is becoming a problem with too many manufacturers. Maybe Ford should look at the Hyundai/KIA, Honda even Mazda play book if arrogance doesn't get in the way.
"Ultimate Driver Experience = manual" - that's why you buy the Focus ST, the fun-to-drive factor. So the 6-speed Manual is definitely the way to go unless you're disabled.
I tested the N, the GTI and the ST... I absolutely love my ST. Never looked back😍
The ST is the best as an all rounder.
Nice to see a review for people who still have a heartbeat. Show another SUV and I'd lose the will to live.
Good review Alex :)
I'd still take the Focus over any of its rivals.
Me too

Manual for life
I owned the 2ltr EcoBoost ST, it made 186kw@wheels with cooler, tune and exhaust... handled amazing too, miss that car.
I have still got mine, cant give it up just yet. I got about the same power with similar mods.

Manual for life. I love the Focus ST 6-speed !

Not one reviewer seems to neither understand nor cover the paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
Waiting for the I30 Sedan N DCT 👌👌👌
I think the Focus ST is better - Manual for life !

It's got the old focus Rs engine. Isn't that differentiating enough? Sure For can just remove the St and sell it as an RS for a lot more money
@@allthenamesaretaken2 It would be great to give it more aggressive look .. may be different net or headlights.

11-12L/100km is outrageous 😆
@@mie- im actually at 8.3L now, my old mk3 estate was at 8.5L. the car is pretty good in terms of fuel economy.
Golf GTI TCR would be first choice however dearer so it would likely be this or an RS280 Megane :) great review Alex
Air vents are under the seats apparently..

lol wtf are you on about? Why can't you compare a Focus to an I30?

but the Focus ST is better, so it's worth the extra money
Golf
The Honda type R

I'd have the Hyundai, more reliable than its rivals and dynamically superior
I'd buy an S1, rather than this dinky fwd rubbish!
Can you still buy a new S1?
@@AnyoneSeenMikeHunt No, production ended in 2018.
