      Its the best. I preferred it when it was dan and Roth though. They have such a good chemistry and play off of each other really well. I miss Roth being on videos as often as she used to be just in general really i guess. Would be nice if the ones i specifically associated with her and Dan like this one and the reviews had her more often.
      I had gotten used to reviews and charting being Dan and Roth doing their thing and playing off of each other. She is such a good person for this show bc it fit her personality much better than it does Lons. Lon is great, the show is just different with him. Not worse really and still the best on the channel. I just preferred the version with Roth and Dan over this version.

    It makes me feel better watching this after watching Grace Randolph do a box office breakdown about how Spider-man “isn’t doing well” and that “no one is talking about this movie” and that there is “Spider-man fatigue”🙃😂🤷🏻‍♀️ But anyway, I’m really happy to see that it’s doing so well! Great charting as usual Dan and Lon!

      Man, I saw the thumbnail, clicked, paused, read a few comments and that told me all I needed to know. Grace pulled the same bad take with Homecoming saying it underperformed before it even opened in China, Japan and a few other Asian territories. Knowing full well that Japan is big on Spidey and MCU were already making close to $100 mil on average in China.

      Yeah she kind of bugs me. With yesterday's opening weekend she was going off about how its failure and hasn't made anywhere near the same kind of money as rocketman and its like....it made 17 mil on like a 26 mil production budget. Like, how is that bad? Sure, maybe it's a huge runaway hit but it's still a good start, and it also had less of a budget than rocketman.

      this is a great idea, I've been wondering about this as well, VOD and other forms of home entertainment as well as OST sales should also make some neat money. movies like "The Greatest Showman" must have sold a lot of music as well.

    • @Maitch3000
      @Maitch3000 5 років тому +3

      I don't think he could do that reliably each week, because the data just isn't there, but I would love a breakdown of a single movie of where it is earning its money. Besides box office, there is blu ray/dvd sales and licensing for streaming and tv.

    • @cjwrench07
      @cjwrench07 5 років тому +2

      Marianne That might only work as a yearly chart, with the top10 of the year on a list, and it would be perfect for a January Episode when nothing else is really happening, box-office-wise.
      I remember SW:TLJ, Disney(and Dan) made a deal on the sheer amount of digital and Physical copies sold, like top-3 of the year, as proof it was a more popular movie than the online hatred would have us believe.
      An episode on the top 10 would work great on those kinds of “divisive” movies, where it’s more a vocal minority in the end.

    I wouldn't call Hereditary dense. The reason it's so hard to get into isn't that the subject matter is complex; it's that it's veering from schlocky horror to family tragedy drama and back.
    Hereditary's ending really killed me, with the whole thing basically ending in an infodump. You coulda just put all that story up in the frame earlier on.

    Watching from Scotland. I watched some old fav movies as my wife went away to her parents....
    Parent trap, 17 again and the first two fast and furious movies. 👍 I know how to live. Parent trap is one of my fav movies of all time. 😍😍😍

    I went to Endgame a second time last week. I finally got my wife caught up enough to take her and the kids to it.
    She was 6-8 hours worth of movies behind when Endgame released. Fitting in that much homework with keeping up with the kids and work took awhile.
    So that is one case where sales can continue to slowly roll in.

    You should add the numbers of "butts on seats", as a permanent part of the charting comparison. Also 30mins or less unless it's one of your docu-charting episodes, à la last week's TS4 projections & Cap Marvel myths!
    Otherwise, really appreciate the shows every week.

    Dan may also be hitting the Counting Crows problem - in that, mammals instinctively can count only up to 3. Anything beyond requires conscious effort. Thus, he MIGHT be hitting the "1,2,3...lots?" issue in his subconscious.

    I have not seen the trailer for Stuber. However, I have two negatives concerning this movie: (1) Money (saw Endgame more times than I had budgeted for) and (2) Saying out loud, "2 for Stuber" (my local theater allows online ticket purchases, but requires the customer to go to the theater box office to request the printed ticket). So...probably the next movie I see in theaters, will be The Lion King.

    With endgame, they should have "rereleased" internationally too. 11th week and only 17 million away. Also projections for stuber is 17 million and crawl is 19 million , low projections this year have given lower results in box office.

      Not 17 million, 15.5 million. And I think that they should have thought about something better for the rerelease, something which would really draw people into the theatres. Like one or two additional scenes IN the movie, not some DVD material tacked on at the end.

    Funny comparing Midsommer and Spiderman. I went to see Spiderman on Monday, then Midsommar on Tuesday. I was more pleasantly suprised with Spiderman actually. While I liked Midsommar, I thought it was a bit too close 'plot wise' to 'the Wicker Man', and allowed me to guess the ending, but I was very interested on how they got there.

    You should also do per week over the years on big weeks like 4th of July so do last years and the year befoRe etc and do the highest on each week. So 4th of July....18,17,16,15,14,13,12,11,10........ and see how other movies compared. Or highest summer movie across the last ten years. Just more fun stat ideas.

    Also worth noting the Raimi movies came out in a time where there was no Netflix and they were literally the marquee superhero films of the year. We got maybe one per year at that time. Now, we have DC releasing two this year and Marvel releasing three (can’t really count Hellboy because it only scored $21 million worldwide). It’s difficult to equalize those variables for analysis. So I just typically go by unadjusted numbers. I say you either take all variables into account and adjust for them or none of them. (Might Spider-Man: Far From Home have had higher ticket sales if the inflation of ticket prices hadn’t occurred-especially relative to median income stagnation over the same period?) I’d love to see measurements of those kind. As it stands, I’ll just take the number at face value.

    I honestly feel like the entire 6-day total should be counted for movies like Far From Home that open early, since it's not really fair to only count the last 3 days when so many people who would have seen it in the last 3 days saw it in the first 3 days instead. If Spider-Man opened o Friday, it would have probably made all $185 million in those 3 days.

    I'd like to hear Dan and Lon talk about why the US box-office is so much higher than that of other countries. is it solely based upon population differences? is it a cultural difference as well? for instance, Japan or UK. why are their weekly box-office numbers so much lower than ours? is it simply because they have fewer people living there? what do the experts (that's you guys) think about this?

    • @ViggoMor10sen
      @ViggoMor10sen 5 років тому +2

      Population plays into it, but a lot of high population countries (like India, which has a billion people against US's 400 million) have cheaper ticket prices.

    I reckon Disney could get away with saying biggest movie of all time if they include Blu-ray sales maybe? Also, I know Disney now owns both technically but they didn’t make the money on Avatar, if anything Avatars success would have been part of making Fox more expensive to buy overall. Obviously in terms of prestige of the title they own both but again even though the mouse ears owns it I think they’ll keep Fox as an imprint for things that don’t fit the Disney mould and it will be a while before people think of Fox’s successful movies and think of Disney. They get credit for owning them not making them.
