In reality those it gets triggered by traumatic events and if those events were serve enough it may be persistent, without further and any direct, real threat. - Back then.. Staying in alert-mode maybe to prevent another situation. Today.. It's a threat itself. It keeps a person from achieving a good life and or even prevents a positive view on reality itself. Anxiety disorder with future depression. (Imh mindf*ck)
Always admire the character of Picard here. His "fight or flight" instinct is really pushing his buttons, but he still manages to remain focused enough to do what's needed and not just bolt. Excellent acting on Partick Stewarts part. Things like how Picard keeps backing into the darker area of sick bay, where he might not be seen by the big bad killer. And his voice throughout has that undertone of shaky fear that is trying to overwhelm him.

I always wondered why the Enterprise has more than just Data and Picard as crew. After all, it only needs Picard to provide Command functions and Data to do everything else. I can only surmise that all the others are just there to keep Picard company.
@@petergaskin1811because it would be tedious for one man to operate all areas of the ship, you’ve got engineering too, when things start going wrong, you need other people in other areas in order to rectified problems and come up with solution, probably not idea for Picard to be running a marathon all over the ship lol, there is also specialist skills that many other members have that he does posses. It would also feel pretty empty if it was just data and Picard 😂 Although I’d probably still watch it lol

his method of verbally going through what he's learned academically about animals and the situation at hand is a great method for coming up with a plan in a moment when you feel trapped and no amount of strength or speed is the answer.
i love watching Picard maintain enough composure to be able to do his job under extreme amounts of stress/anxiety that would be too much for other people. his force of will is so strong
Probably not that many. They established that the transformation occurred about 24 hours prior, and big predators like that don't eat as often as you'd think. A single kill could have sustained him for several days. Combine that with the low population density of the Enterprise-D (a 1000+ crew compliment spread across a 642-meter-long, 42-deck-tall ship actually makes for sparse hunting grounds), and it's entirely possible that de-evolved Worf may not have eaten yet.

Interesting how Picard’s heightened sense of fear actually made him more decisive in taking needed risks, much like our ancestors had to do in order to survive.
The one thing I always found curious in this episode, is that when they observe the Enterprise crew have de-evolved into their previous evolutionary states, neither one thinks about the 6 foot Klingon until he's pounding on sick bay door.
To be fair they probably don't have much knowledge about what primitive Klingons looked like or what they were like. Any Klingon history from before Kahless is already mostly unknown. We don't even know how they managed to become a space faring species given their bloodlust for battle to the point of idiocy. Besides in the heat of the moment they were simply not thinking about Worf since they had bigger issues to deal with.

I love this show, just starting with that. That said, the flashlights in star trek drive me nuts. How in the world is that a more efficient, or convenient design than what we have... over 300 years earlier. I'm not saying they should have used "our" flashlights, but the fact that those square boxes you have to hold, are the best they can come up with, is ridiculous 🤣😝
Practical effects, I think. Before LEDs and LiOn batteries I think it would be hard to get a bright enough flashlight to look good on film. So you either need the flashlight to be large or wired, or else CGI it. There's a bunch of Trek gagdets and gizmos that are anachronistic because of practical considerations.
Powerful radio transmitters in a comm badge........but a brick for a flashlight....and no light or laser sight on the phaser....just press annihilate and sweep back and forth till you hit something.

Not sure about that in his mutant form. Data's total weight is 100kg while mutant warf was twice that weight. Even if data could of subdued mutant Warf, he likely would not have been able to do so without causing serious Harm or even killing him.
primitive Worf=200kg? Let’s assume Klingons weigh 50% more than average human males…so 120kg or so. That would mean that in that short amount of time, Worf would need to eat enough to retain 80kg. Worf definitely ate someone…possibly multiple people.

But, dramatic effect being far more appropriate to the plotline, Picard has to overcome his fear & confusion to draw Worf away, & give Data time to save the day.
@@zt1053, not likely. Worf was already a powerful humanoid, & had also developed an exoskeleton, acid spraying ability, & was driven to a frenzy of fury by mating instinct. Data cannot risk injury to himself or the other crew members present, & the level of brute force required to quickly stop or debilitate such a dangerous opponent is almost sure to cause them permanent injury or death. If a heavy stun setting won't knock him out, & you have to hit him over the head with enough force to do it, a shattered spine or crushed skull is practically guaranteed. Keeping Worf distracted in another direction was the far safer & wiser course of action for all concerned.

This episode was Gates McFadden’s first time as director. I wish the producers gave her an episode with a better storyline, but she did make the most of it.
She did an AWESOME job, wish she could've done more directing work.

@@zt1053, Picard said, "Put your phaser on heavy stun." Data said, "A stun setting may not be enough to stop him, & a higher setting might kill him.". In real life, a wiser course of action would have been to use the ventilation system to disperse the pheromone some distance down the corridor, to draw Worf away remotely, & not risk the Captains welfare. But, dramatic effect being far more appropriate to the plotline, Picard has to overcome his fear & confusion to draw Worf away, & give Data time to save the day.

@@zt1053, not likely. Worf was already a powerful humanoid, & had also developed an exoskeleton, acid spraying ability, & was driven to a frenzy of fury by mating instinct. Data cannot risk injury to himself or the other crew members present, & the level of brute force required to quickly stop or debilitate such a dangerous opponent is almost sure to cause them permanent injury or death. If a heavy stun setting won't knock him out, & you have to hit him over the head with enough force to do it, a shattered spine or crushed skull is practically guaranteed. Keeping Worf distracted in another direction was the far safer & wiser course of action for all concerned.
