      1. 可以帮我‘把’灯关了吗
      2. 可以帮我关掉灯吗
I will normally say the later one instead of the first one (maybe im from malaysia). To me, both examples try to emphasise 'to switch off the light'. (maybe the first emphasises on the light while the later emphasises the action of switching off, but for me, both the same)
For native speaker, we know when we may neglect the word 把. For beginner, I will still advise you to master the fundamental first, soon you will know when could you ignore the word 把 and when you could not.
hope i dont confuse you. this is a very professional channel to learn chinese anyway, i personally feel that, at least so far I dont see better channel.

I just noticed that in English we also add words between the subject and the main verb when we want to change the focus.
I ate the noodles => I took the noodles and ate them.
I ate the cake =>The cake? Oops. I accidentally ate it.
It's not a perfect comparison, but it makes sense to me. When we want to distance ourselves from the action, or change the focus to the object, we add additional information before the verb.

You can say “我把你推薦給我的電影看完了(我把你推荐给我的电影看完了)” or simply “我看完你推薦給我的電影了 (我看完你推荐给我的电影了)” Both of them would be fine. It depends on whether “the movie you recommended” is something you want to put more emphasis on, if you want to talk about it and it’s important in your conversation, you can use 把 structure
(Native speakers would choose different sentence structures to use depending on the context and what they want to emphasize)

It depends on what your emphasis is. For example, if you wanted to focus on the act of doing something together, e.g. "Let's watch a movie together," then you wouldn't need to use 把. On the other hand, if you wanted to focus on finishing a movie together, and then perhaps doing something else, you could say something like "我們一起把電影看完...ba" ;) (Wǒmen yīqǐ bǎ diànyǐng kàn wán). Happy to learn and be corrected if I'm wrong!

  • @albajgurd

Basically this 'ba' structure is the same as the Passive mode in English which shifts the focus from the actor to the recipient of the action. For some reason the true Passive mode isn't that common in Chinese.
