    The most thoughtful Star Citizen content creator out there. Videos are always meticulously organized and chaptered, with content that cuts through the positive/negative hype frenzies with some interesting insights. I'm admittedly biased, because you were the one that "taught a man to fish" regarding solo-Mole quant mining, unlocking complete financial security in the game for me. But regardless, when I want some no-risk, always-worth-the-time SC content, this is where I head. Keep up the good work. 🍻
    And for my SC money, I want us all to be much more focused on the gameplay mechanics and game loops, rather than the outstanding ships that depend on them. What's a Crucible without repair? A Genesis without passenger transport? A Perseus without targets worthy of the firepower? A Hull-C/D/E without the Quantum / dynamic economy system to drive such commodity volumes? Build the mechanics and the ships will come.

      @Loud Guns Yeah, that's what I ended up doing sadly. Was really hoping for a CCU option to a complete setup (or at least a medical setup). My "galaxy" will probably live for the foreseeable future as a torpedo boat.
      They were quite strategic in how they released a very expensive ship that I couldn't get massive savings on with my CCU-FU. As a consequence I'll probably only store credit the medical module and buy cargo/refining in game.

    • @LoudGuns

      It’s a fair point, but I guess I can only answer for myself. Personally having done the starer ship start and grind a good few times, and with a fairly busy life outside of games I do like having a couple of more expensive ships ready for me. If I didn’t have to work for a living I’d probably do a drake cutter start - after the game comes out for a few months the playing field will level off a bit. People who bought ships for cash may still be a bit ahead of those who grinded for them because they could do 12 hours a day (or more those are rookie numbers 😂). But ultimately they will be behind them in terms of skill.
      More holistically (and totally personally) I want to fund the project, and parting with a bit of my money to get it made benefits everyone who enjoys or will enjoy SC.

    • @Libertas_P77
      @Libertas_P77 2 роки тому

      My general take is to only buy some of the larger ships you love but are too expensive to want to grind for every single patch wipe. For me, that’s been things like the Carrack and Redeemer, but I enjoy the grind for my Cutty Black, Connie and MOLE (when mining isn’t totally nerfed).. and alas my poor Caterpillar sits gathering dust while cargo remains so nerfed too…

    Answer to "why arent more ships modular" ( 2:20 ) is simple:
    money.

  • @citizentrucker
    @citizentrucker 2 роки тому

    we have one "preview" of modularity, in game, kinda, for lower tier modules anyway. the Starfarer tanks can already be swapped out. i would hope it remains this easy and you dont have to wait an installation cycle. once people remain in space for longer periods of time, some behaviors may change. they may kit it out before setting off into space, only going to port and changing modules when the situation calls for it

  • @Dont_Fear_Phil
    @Dont_Fear_Phil 2 роки тому

    So the reason I'm picking one up today is that because modularity is till probably a long way off... This gives you a Carrack as a loaner until then, and I want to fly a Carrack and I've got the 380 easy in store credits, but I'm not up to spending 600 on one ship yet. Same reason the Retaliator Base is a good deal rn, $150 bucks for a loaner bomber *and* a gladiator for the low low price of 150, and since it's another modular ship who knows when they're gonna get that sorted. I'm using the prices for these to fly ships that are flyable now without paying the full price of owning one and that's a pretty solid deal for me.

    I LOVE StarCitizen. But I have to admit, it is hard to get excited about certain mechanics that we don't have yet. Modular ships like the Retaliator and Catapillar have been in game for a while, and there is not enough known at this point to make a well informed decision. I wanted to get hyped about salvage with the reclaimer, but had a hard time since it took a while to get any of it in game. Still excited to see what is to come but can't hop on the hype train with some things preemptively anymore.

  • @6663000
    @6663000 2 роки тому +1

    Originally I was thinking that all ships should be (at least somewhat) modular, but the more I've thought about it the more I like what CIG is doing.
    Make a couple of special ships modular, and then for most of the other ships you can have a couple of different variants to choose from.
    If every ship were modular, then in some sense you'd only need one small, one medium, and one large ship from each manufacturer plus a couple of capital ships.
    I'd much rather have a whole bunch of different ships and a whole bunch of variants to choose from.

    Hi. Great video, as ever! Totally agree. I guess what upsets me about new concept ships is that they detract from the older ones such as the Orion, Endeavour, Polaris, etc. We hear no word from CIG on these and so seeing brand spanking newer models just rubs salt into these wounds. The other question I have is; are they publishing these new concepts when they know they will not be ever developed? I’m starting to wonder.

  • @zpilot4523
    @zpilot4523 2 роки тому +1

    The reason i doubt i will get it is even being modular, it isn't really able to do anything on its own. It needs a ship to bring patients in, or ore, or cargo. And it can only carry a pisces, so its not a self contained system and it doesn't bridge any gaps either. So you need 5 friends.....plus 10 more for support. Why not get something else at that point like a carrack or odyssey

    "wouldn't it be better buy just the one QT drive rather than three for the different variants".
    So... you have to actually swap the modules. You have to go to where the module is and then some time/energy/money(?) goes into swapping parts.
    The QT drive is also swappable. Someone with three variants could go to where the variant they want is and spend some time/energy/money(?) to swap the QT drive.
    There isn't really a savings there.
    If SC ends up a universe where many ships don't get regularly blown up; there's some advantage in not having to move all your items from one ship to another; but otherwise every advantage of a modular ship over a variant with the same configuration is monetary; and those values are entirely assigned by CIG.

Obviously SC is much more complicated than LoL... I get that (enormous) funding is required. But if I were them I'd invest a bit more in base building and procedural planets/moons/asteroids and start selling land claims instead ASAP. It scales much better than new ships.

      The problem with working on big stuff like the Polaris is that the servers just aren't capable of handling big ships. Some of those capital ships in the pipeline would take up half of the server with just crew alone. If server meshing was done and we had a unified server that could handle hundreds of players at a time, then it would make sense to put those big ships through the pipeline. Not to mention that the primary gameplay loops for some of those ships aren't even done yet. Do you want another Reclaimer situation where a ship is flyable but completely useless for years because its gameplay loop hasn't been developed yet? Those smaller ships serve several purposes, one of which is to be something that CIG can quickly put out to test gameplay loops before dedicating manpower to their bigger versions.

    Modularity will work, but most likely using mobiglass, and I can bet they figured out how to make the rooms unattachable much like cargo. However, I doubt we will see it any time soon, and that is my gripe with CIG. Everything they do has to eventually go through UI and gameplay to make it player facing. All the ships that are currently in the game that will be modular 2 examples, Carrack, and Caterpillar will have to be reworked. For they explained that every ship is baked, and the first method of development meant that modularity would mean making another version and spawning between multiple versions. Not very efficient right? So they went for modular rooms, so they can be attached and removed. This will be the same tech most likely to do the placement of slaved ships.

    Beautiful ship. Doesn't have any ugly "hangar-snaggers" like the Corsair, lol. Shame it will take so long to be functional. I'm starting to think that many of the more spend-y backers do want to see the game progress, but are more hooked on the spending part. I feel the same way about these capital-class ships as I do about big diamonds and Rolex watches. Right now, their primary function is to be medals for how much cash you can throw down. This in itself is a high, and it's addictive. It's their money, but so many people are coupling it with thoughts like "when such-n-such is in game, this will be so cool". What I've seen of this game's history, current state, and projected progress tells me it will be years before even a few of these dreamed-about features are a thing, let alone stable or balanced. That could take years longer. I'd like to see the game be what was meant to be, but I don't want to throw cash at it if it's going to stay in development hell for longer than my remaining lifespan, or suffer an unrecoverable catastrophe (legal or otherwise), or just plain fizzle. I'd like to play these ships, systems and loops. Get my hands dirty in them, not just dream about them. I just feel down thinking they'll still be "someday" for many more years.

    Totally disagree with that last statement of the smartest folks in the room are the ones with a single starter ship in their hangar and nothing more..... If we were all like that, do you think we'd be further along or further back in progress and tech...? So no, nothing against the minimal backer, people who back more aren't foolish. And I'm sure that's not what you were getting at as you are a concierge backer yourself I assume, it's just kinda how it came off. Never will I ever sway anyone away from backing. Today in SC, that seems to be the common thing to do as if supporting something you love is..... bad.

    • @LoudGuns

      Text is a terrible medium for conveying tone so if anything I say comes across as rude please give me the benefit of the doubt as offending isn’t my intention.
      I answered a kinda opposite comment earlier in this list where a guy said I was asking the wrong q - he was going for why does anyone have anything more than a starter. The tldr version of part of my response on my own behalf was that I do genuinely enjoy supporting the project with a bit of my bank account so it gets made. Particularly in my situation where making content provides a bonus second income.
      But I always want to be a voice that makes it very clear that you don’t have to keep up with others and can enjoy all the game has to offer without spending more than on a starter ship. There are (I’m sure you’ve met them) lots of people in this community who brag about what they’ve spent, and post pictures of their massive expensive ships to show off about how rich they are. That undoubtedly leads others to feel insecure and like they have to spend more even though they might not necessarily be able to afford to. I’ve seen too many friends (for other reasons) get into a dark hole of debt and it’s not pretty.

    As far as financing CIG has at this point made nearly $500million usd, an average of $50 million usd annually over the games 10 years of development, its hard to believe that financing has been an obstacle and it's hard to stomach when cig willingly decided to split development between sc and sq42. Very nice video & theory about this ship. The question is, do we really need this ship? The Odyssey, the Carrack, the Endeavor, etc. already offer all these possibilities. Of course the looks of the Galaxy are very cool. But most players look for an all-in-one ship. Not everyone has a group to play together, most players are solo. It's nice to see that there are many choices between the different brands of ships, but that also makes it very difficult to choose the right ship. You can't buy them all...I also think the developers can sell more ships if you can actually play with them after announced. People are getting tired of the concept ships and want more progress of the game and fly their ships that are still under development.
