@@norbertnagy4570 aurora doesnt have any jump seats like the pisces expedition, your passengers are just crammed in the back hoping not to noclip thru the ship
for the rooms and layout, there was one lil issue, the hangar is 2 floors high, the ship has 2 decks so both plans and layouts are valid. the modular room is 1 floor high and in the lower section of the ship
They really should consider adding atleast a very basic sickbay with a T3 med bay somewhere on the ship without being required to install an entire hospital into it.
In the recent citizencon CIG stated that the Galaxy will recieve a base building module to build S-L sized buildings, which might give it an edge when basebuilding becomes a thing in 4-6 years
I decided to pull the trigger on the complete pack for now. Even if I decide to go back later and get some combination of other ships - a refinery ship, a Hull C, and an Apollo, as you mention - for now the modular concept intrigues me and I do like the RSI aesthetic and the general look of the ship itself.
Great for Carrack loaner. Great CCU to hold for concept inflation. As a ship, it is a tradeoff. Catepillar competition. We need to see what modules they finally bring to the Cat.
yeah but at the same time I remember that they mention endeavor being the last thing to be made so I'm not sure if that is worth it especially if one buys it for the express purpose of using the increased price to try to get any capital class ship
The Carrack/Endeavor are old ships, which will need more extensive reworks, the Galaxy on the other hand was designed for the current and future game mechanics. and takes full advantage of modulation. Ide quite expect we'll see the Galaxy to release before the Odyssey, and years prior to the Endeavor.
If this ship had one more top mounted back turret, it could be a solid bounty hunting ship for a small crew or a good support frigate to pair with a fleet with a Polaris, Perseus, and hammerhead
yeh it needs a top turret. would fit nicely on the top flat part. also cig always shoots themself in the foot. always one little thing missing which makes or breaks the ship. this ship needs 4 barrels forward firing pilot controlled. and/or a top turret & bottom turret. it has no coverage down and behind
First I got a ccu for 5 bucks for this ship(Valkyrie to Galaxy)and agree with the questions that we don't have answers to. But I would compare this more to the caterpillar. Similar size and similar functions for they both have modules, similar price. Galaxy has one big modules vs the cat 4 small modules. The carrack is a different breed.
Is day this isn't really comparable to either. The cat and Carrack are both more versatile in the field, having multiple medium modules, where as this in theory will perform a single task better with it's single large module, but it's less brittle in the field. I see this as a mod ground between the cat and a more specialised ship.
@@RoroYaKnow The valkyrie is already in-game and the price shouldn't change, of course their is expectation like the Caterpillar. But that was because it was a great deal under 300 dollars and CIG saw this.
@@MrEsphoenixThe Carrack wouldn't be in any other fields besides science and maybe medical for the modules. The Caterpillar I don't know the size of the modules and we kinda don't know if a module take up more then one slot. Like the endeavor some modules takes 2 slots. Also the level of each modules going to be like if the Cat has medical modules would the highest be only tier 2 or 3 beds. This is why I would love more information on both ships and their respective modules. So I will just sit on this for I use store credit on the ccu and not really losing anything.
I would love to see a military variant, that acts as a pocket carrier (RSI has the Gunboat, Torpedo boat, and as such a carrier would fit well in the lineup) Slightly better weaponry, perhaps better shields, and then the module combined with the hangar to fit 2x Scorpius or something like that. (Im not sure that would actually fit, but one can dream) That would be the Galaxy of my choice ;)
Part of the problem is that CIG keeps adding ships with features that don't exist in game yet. If mobile refining was a thing it would be much easier to justify the Galaxy on the refining module alone, especially of you could refine quantanium on the spot and throw it into the ship fuel tanks for usage. They have all these great ideas for modularity and the modules don't do a damn thing yet.
I think you highlighted the right concerns for this ship. It has a lot of weaknesses but people who buy it should do so only if they plan to play it with a group of friends
I passed this one despite how much I like the idea and looks. I'll re-evaluate after the Q&A drops but don't see anything that could alter my opinion in the Spectrum thread. The loadout seemed confused with weak turret placement and undersized shield that left it in the victim ship realm. And if you don't get all the modules you'd be better off buying just the specialized profession ships like a C2 for cargo since they're better in every way. Without a module it's little more than a flying hangar for a snub. And if you care about LTI you need to get the 600+ euro complete pack before the concept reveal sale ends. Gonna grab a couple of cheap upgrades to speculate on the CCU chaining minigame though. What you didn't mention in the end was that the Carrack also has three planned modules and that the Endeavour Hope hospital ship is currently in the price range of the Galaxy and comes with a bigger hangar and bigger medical facilities.
@@StarBuZZpro It's also a decent cargo ship, spawn point/ medical rescue ship (closest thing we have to a hospital ship) especially with the new Pisces ambulance, and tanky in combat because of its dual S3 shields and good health pool. It can even fit light fighters like the buccaneer in its hangar if you prefer. It takes advantage of most of the game even right now :) Can't wait for the modularity, drones and repair facility but it's already arguably the most useful large ship in the game
@@Theres_A_Way S3 shields and health pool don't do alot in PVP for the carrack atm because you need a fully crewed ship to even have a chance to survive a pvp engagement. It is decent for cargo runs tho, true.
what you need to know, size 4 and 5 are the border between fighting small ships and larger ships. The 6 size 5 guns wont have much use vs a gang of small ships you will be an sitting duck. the carrack has a good setup with its fast speed and anti fighter capabilities. this can change but for now the carrack is far better in its defensive capabilities.
It's gonna be a good wait tho (: I' don't mind waiting but I ain't buying any ship anytime soon I still got to save up too upgrade my old pc too even play again But when I do oh boy will I be trying to buy some ships aswell Maybe not something like this but like a 325a customized might be nice
So you want a sitting duck with terrible s5 turret placement, only 1 module slot which means you basically got a worse version of a specialiced ship + the fact that the galaxy won't be released before 2026 for the small jpeg price of 640€ oof.
Note that you can lock in the price of the concept price of $350 for as little as $5. You buy a token upgrade from a from some ship to the Galaxy costing you only the difference between the two ships. To get the $5 token you pick a ship that's worth $345 (You do not need to own this ship or buy in "right now") and then upgrade to the galaxy, giving you a upgrade token in your hanger. If shit goes badly for the game in the future your only out $5 instead of $350.
That’s only if they do not raise the price of that lesser ship. If they do, then you’re out of the CCU slot. That’s why I chanced a $30 CCU lock in with the Phoenix.
I did end up getting the Galaxy Freighter with my subscriber coupon in early December. The other modules I have with store credit. Just like the looks, style, and design of it. The cargo capacity is 512 in the module [Eight 32-SCU containers to a side, btw] + the 64 SCU on the sides of the hangar bay. That's 576, or the same as the Caterpillar. Love the tractor beam cranes, too. 😮😊
7 months later and i own it and im still watching vids on it. Its hands down the best looking ship imo. Just look at it. If they add a weapon modal with more turrets or torps i will just sell all of my other stuff and be in awe. For my 3-5 man group this is perfect as we can crew this and two prospectors or a mole and rake in bank to buy all the other ships in game. At least thats the hope =D
Melted some Paint Packs and a hoverbike, and got the Base Ship without Mods. Being a concept to come out with Pyro(Allegedly), I should have time to get them all next Year. ✌️😎🚬
Actually, consider modules like "owned" equipment that you have a voucher for with RSI. So long as you own one, you can get one installed at any RSI location that has the module and capacity to install it. This means all you have to do is show up and request one to be installed. They check the system and see that you currently own a copy of that module but do not have it installed on a ship. So they will install it for you on your ship. If you have a module already installed they swap it out. The module you are turning in becomes a voucher in your database and they refurbish it for any damage or degradation. We might have to pay a small fee, but that shouldn't cost us much more than our normal maintenance would for taking care of the same thing. This gives us much greater flexibility and ensures our systems are kept at high levels of maintenance.
My best guess on module transport is the simplest. If you have the base ship, all modules associated with it -- go with it. Which one you are actually using will be determined by your hangar customization terminal. Edit: I agree that the Apollo will probably do a better job with medical but I disagree about the same case with the expanse and refining. From what we know, the galaxy will be able to refine much more at much faster speeds. So if you want a serious refining ship for company ops, you'd take the Galaxy.
Man I fell in love with this game it’s just so beautiful but I couldn’t figure out out to fly out do anything for that matter… maybe I revisit it eventually
the price point and the wait time being unknown is the reason im holding off on the galaxy but it is an absolute beauty and will definitly be in my roster when i'm further in the game, fyi im not even in the game yet im still using your videos to decide on a starter hahaha
IMO the Galaxy is a competitor to the Caterpillar, same cargo SCU, same length, no dedicated med bay etc. and lacking firepower. The main problem I see is it having only 1 Large shield, where as the Cat. has 2 Large shields. Let's hope it has some decent armor to compensate for the lack of protection.
The cat also has amazing turret placement with s4 laser repeaters, which are perfect for fighting off small and medium figthers while the galaxy has bad turret placement with s5s.
Hey Youngblood, appreciate your balanced, informative approach without all the current drama that’s being shoveled on us from many of the other self appointed influencer’s… I mean “SC content creators”. Keep up the great work!
If the cargo mod adds 512 scu to the base scu. That gives it similar cargo cap close to a C2... but with a quick on/offload tractor system. That could be useful
@@Theres_A_Way I've heard that the MISC Odyssey's refinery is only for refining quantanium into quantum fuel. Could be wrong though, I guess we won't truly know until they start working on it.
@@thygeek No your right, its in the QA. And it goes straight into the fuel tank, so you can't even trade it as a commodity. And you can only refuel whats able to fit in the hanger.
I imagine the modularity will be you will need to fly back just like inventory because they exist and like the endeavor you will need a place to store them. So yes you will have to physically transport them. Deep down I think people will regret modularity.
Totally agree, I think modules will be inconvenient. With how CIG handles others features like loading cargo you can be almost certain it will come with a timer and or fee. It’s also not efficient. If you have other ships you can potentially rent them out to a orgmates, friends, maybe npc. If the module isn’t in a Galaxy, it’s an asset not at work. Where will it be stored?Persistent hanger? If it’s stored separately is there an extra fee? If they want to introduce more diverse gameplay options, without spending development on a “large complicated ship”, they should have concepted small portable homesteading equipment like generators, refineries, medical instruments, food/shopping carts, crafting stations etc. If they can be held, rolled or hovered they can be deployed from most ships today.
@@scdeluge actually CIG wants to implement storage fees hangar rentals Jan rentals all that jazz. Infact cig does not really want players to have to not relie on them. Actually sharing between orgs is planned once the permission system comes in with resource management. We will be able to hire npcs we won’t be able to rent out to them. Cig wants you actually doing a task to make income. So yes crafting will be a thing but limited like how repair is done is crafting in my book. But yes the galaxy pretty much confirms special location time and fee to swap. But be rest asdured modularity is in the game.
@@anacreon212 while that cool cig has built the economy to be assigned by specialities which is good. To me what keeps me out of elite and no man sky is actually the whole that ship looks cool and can do the same thing but more
If someone is wanting a Carrack for much less than $600, I would recommend the base model. By the time the Galaxy is flight ready, And raise in price - You wont be far off from a Carrack.
To note, the tier 2 beds respawning would just be a placeholder since there are no tier 1 beds in any ships. When any tier 1 bed is implemented in the game, I believe only the tier 1 beds will be able to let you respawn. Also, the Apollo will have the ability to configure 2 tier 1 bed in the ship. So if you are interested in the medical gameplay for the galaxy, please think before if you just want a mobile respawn beacon (base) or a "hospital". Since the galaxy is a better hospital, but not a better respawn beacon.
Like usual for CIG ships, the Galaxy is a very cool ship full of flaws and compromises. It looks awesome but it has sub-par weapons, no pilot controlled guns for whatever reason and a modular system that leaves half of the ship empty, with no use when not equipped. It's basically a concept ship that at best is a worst version of specialized ships. I also really don't know what a refinery module even would add to a ship with no mining capabilites. Are we supposed to play alongside Prospectors and Moles? If so this ship depends on others to be useful and that's really not good. This ship has no identity and the modules can't make up for it unfortunately. I can see it as a medical ship or a cargo hauler, but do we really need more ships like this? Wouldn't a small medical bay with the base Galaxy be better so the module space could be used for something else? I mean, do we really need a sub capital ambulance? No we don't.
For me I can’t see the use for the refinery module as it doesn’t have much room to store refined goods so you’re gonna need another ship anyway, the cargo module for me is daylight robbery, that’s should have been the base model as I can’t see what use a “modularless” Galaxy would be. I like the idea of the Medical variant as a potential search and rescue/respawn ship and it seems equipped to perform for far longer and more varied excursions than an Apollo, given that it has all tiers of Med beds as standard, a cargo lift as let’s face it there will be an URSA medical one day, also the Pisces C8R to go and stabilise and recover.
That IS basically what they are doing. Even if the modules are 'Cheaper' than the ship as a whole, the Modules are STILL very expensive compared to, say, buying a BRAND NEW ship. The modules cost $70, $80, and $90 each. You can just buy new ships for that price. If they cost like $5 or $10 each, people probably wouldn't complain too much. But $70 to $90? You can buy 2 brand new ships for $90, or a bunch of cheap full fledge games to play for months and years. The value is NOT worth it. It is 100% a Money Grab.
It is not that modules are "scummy" it is that there are like 8 other ships that are modular or have modular items and they are not mentioned at all, on top of that modularity will require the same devs that are currently working on server meshing which means we won't see modularity until 2024 at the earliest most likely.
I hope the side turrets have a good arc to make up for the lack of a dorsal turret. Idk this thing is just weird to me because the exterior design makes it look like a badass attack ship but its really just a cargo hauler/industrial/hospital ship depending on which module you use. It kind of reminds me of those kids that think they're cool when they make their honda civic as loud as possible.
Ye, i think the galaxy will be a sitting duck. S5 turrets are bad vs small and medium fighters anyway plus the turret placement means you basically got no chance vs a decent pilot. Your only hope is a smal lfighter stored in your hangar.
I build my fleet for the future, not the now, so I'm okay waiting. I'm encouraged by the news that the Tali modules are physically done but waiting for the power management system so they can work. I know it will be years, but I'm patient. Complete Pack with sub coupon gave me the most value for the future.
The complete pack basically has 0 value. You should never buy jpeg concept ships and always wait for flight ready status but if you wanna cash in now just get the base version. You just paid like 150 to 200 dollars for 3 modules, which will cost nothing in game later + you are missing out on the newly released modules in the future.
The Galaxy is not a combat vessel. It has less shields than the Connie. IMO this thing really needs to have two S3 Shields. It is just such a big target compared to the Connie
Well everything in Star Citizen is supposed to have weaknesses. In the case of the galaxy it is bad turret placement and coverage and weak shielding which you have to combat with a small fighter stored in the hangar. In combat it is basically helpless and a sitting duck.
@@StarBuZZpro the same could be said for the C2 Hercules yet it has two S3 shields. Now if the Galaxy was built by Drake... 😆 But seriously it's not really the 'combat worthiness' that demands 2 shields it's the amount of resources the ship stands for. Same reason why aircraft carriers never travel alone.
in regards to the carrack. it also has modularity in the 3 cargo pods that can be swapped out. so we could see it be used for refinery but I Think they said it will be more science / exploration focused
I did as I was already planning on getting the Aquila but the Connie was super buggy. I was also pretty close to Concierge so figured why not. Reminds me of the Corvus from Battlefront 2. I figure with blades in the future (or ai gunners) will be fine for my gameplay loops
It will possibly be a great ship in the distant future, but is not a smart bet at the moment (unless you are one of the clever people using the Galaxy as a cheap way to get a Carrack loaner for the next few years). Like some other commenters I split the difference by picking up a cheap CCU for now. I'm going to reconsider after the Q&A and go from there, but odds are I'll melt the CCU at some point.
Truth be told this ship is quite a good option for players who want to be open in the future There are new modules to be released and honestly that is what most players who are interested in the ship should choose to take The empty one is a mistake - you cannot even access the hangar without a module acc to the deck overviews The carge module is the best option (its the most viable now and will be in the future because the amount of cargo it can carry is decent Its nice for players to have the additional option to get new modules in the future (ingame) and having the choice to change their module out depending on the needs/interest For those that want a carrack for half the price…why not - take the empty cheapest version If you change your mind later you can buy modules ingame but if you really want a carrack - get one now because it will only become more expensive in the future
Think it bears mentioning that in the case of the Apollo it can only carry one or two of the bed tiers at one time. While the Galaxy module can't swap the types of beds it has, it has all three at the same time.
A big white elephant is also the Liberator. With similar cargo capacity and its flat shape, its probably easy loaded and unloaded. I dont remember if there will be a medical bed tho. Its landing pads and cargo is its modularity. Its limited to small vehicles, but i hope they modify the top pads to be either 1 medium or 2 smalls pads.
I keep seeing people say that Tesla wants to swap batteries....... That is exactly the opposite of what they ARE doing by gluing them into the car to make them structural and weigh 1000lbs less.
Loved your take! Question; would you feel differently if the Galaxy were available to fly now? And I know this is asking a lot of CIG, how would things play out differently, in terms of public good will, if they gave them away as loaner ships to people who had pre-ordered the Polaris and the Perseus?
As things stand now your best bet for cargo is to just make 5 million in game and go buy a C2. Nearly 700 cargo. That's what I do. The C2 is the first ship I purchased after a wipe.
Only thing galaxy seems to have a good prospect for is the idea of a freighter with some okay defenses, and small snub hangar, or as a mobile hospital with the C8R in the back or something similar to go grab people and bring back to ship etc. I think Medical module makes most sense to see this used as and people who really like design could enjoy the cargo. Refinery module doesn't make much sense when expanse exists, your losing out all your cargo assumingly and just have the 64SCU which you need to use for refinery which is same storage size the expanse gets. Expanse is better when consider having it limited so much to that role, and can land work with a kraken easily and has more refinery units.
I never considered comparing it against the carrack, I would buy a dorito if I didn't have a red alert carrack and m2, but m2 can cargo and I'm planning to buy a apollo medivac so I don't really feel the need for the dorito, although the "1 less turret, but more powerful" does very much appeal to me, less crew needed and more power in each gunner's hands. Also why the dorito can excel at all 3 things, it can only do 1 of the things at a time, while a carrack will be able to carry both relatively lots of cargo and still have a T1 medbed available simultaneously. Also I think you brought up a good question, what if I"m several systems away from my modules? A final thing to consider is if you have individual ships, like the RAFT for cargo, expanse for refining and apollo for medical, you have 3 very distinct looking and feeling ships, a much more diverse looking and feeling fleet as a result.
I completely agree with all these points. The the most appealing to me is the medical module, but until CIG explains when will modules will be available and how they will work, I can’t see myself buying this ship. CIG has done a really poor job with the ship module concept. Until proven, it’s just a gimmick
Now this is going to have a base building module or something according to citcon, makes me much more interested in this since the pioneer is ridiculously expensive
When it comes to the cargo module if all the places that sell cargo do it in those bigger containers I think that will make the galaxy the best cargo ship that can land at outpost and the quickest to load considering the amount of cargo. The hull C can't land to get cargo so limits where it can do trade and the Caterpillar uses 1 SCU boxes which will take much longer to load making the Galaxy with a cargo module faster to load for that amount of cargo due to the large containers.
I wouldn't be surprised if modules came disassembled in, say, 64 SCU containers. It's even possible you'd be able to double-hook said big containers with both of the cranes in the cargo module, which would certainly be neat. But watching this video, it really feels like if you have multiple specialised ships in a grand whale fleet that can individually be superior at their specialisation, you've already skipped past the Galaxy and you're just no longer the intended customer.
Thanks for the video outlining the details of the ship. It looks interesting, and would go on my list of "Goal Ships to get with UEC." Obviously my knee jerk reaction to the title is "no", but I'm just not the type of player who is going to shell out hundreds of dollars for a ship, particularly if it isn't something I could use right away.
I really hope they get more creative with the designs of the large and nearly capitol sized ships. They all look like wedges or chisels. They really need some fresh new ones eyes on concept. Perhaps they can do another community ship design contest like they did for the Redeemer.
Carrack vs Galaxy Comparison - The range on size 5 guns of 2800 vs 1800 or less on the Carrack may also be a point in the Galaxy's favor. The Carrack carries roughly 80% of the cargo of the Galaxy Freighter and has the one permanent T2 Medbay rather than having to switch out for the more robust Medical Module for the Galaxy. If far from base, the Carrack is a bit of everything already, but the Galaxy can specialize to a greater extent all around. One's for Science, one's for industry. It's an interesting choice made a bit easier by the loaner of a Carrack. About the modules: Med Bay looks like the same set up as the Apollo. Galaxy likely has more range and is more defendable. Apollo is quick to buzz in and out and if they ever implement the patient retrieval drones...that's something. Apollo crew requirements are much smaller at 1 however. Cargo Bay turns it into a Caterpillar. Same SCU capacity. Galaxy far better armed, Cat has double the shields. Refinery Bay only has 2 reactors, Expanse has 6. Galaxy MUCH better range through and is not made of wet tissue paper like the Expanse. Expanse also set to have crew of 1 though. Complete Galaxy only 75% of the cost of the 3 ships that its modules emulate.
i traded my Hercules for the galaxy base. if i get the cargo version i feel like id get the same gameplay, the medical upgrade could be fun if the apollo doesnt live up to its job
I think the Herc is just a lot tougher and favors ground vehicle transport. If you're into the 32 SCU crates, we haven't really seen that discussed on the Herc...it would make sense that it can carry them, but loading may be another factor.
the 64 SCU is hanger space (accessed through a ramp) but this will all change. Still, this is one of the ships that to me (due to the hangar an d I like the RSI look) gives the Caterpillar a run for its money. Modularity. With this ship they have at least announced the modules which with the Carrack or Caterpillar they have hinted at, and there are some docs, but nothing really confirmed. Yeah, I'm goign to compare to the slower CAt :)
I think that'd be an interesting use of the bay space on the bottom...though I'm not sure an additional shield gen slapped in a module would be a direction they would go.
I think modules should work like Blue Rhino LP tanks. You own a tank and a service location anywhere swaps them out. That's a good enough handwavium excuse for me.
You are missing some important points about the weapons. Size 5 guns are terrible against fighters because of their slow projectile speed. They are for fighting medium to large vessels. Unlike the Carrack the Galaxy is not a ship that should go into dangerous territory without an escort.
This ship is more equivalent to the Drake Cat, rather than the Carrack. While the Carrack provides modularity, the base systems provided for different gameplay loops are much more robust. This ship still has less shielding than the Cat, which frankly doesn’t make sense to me. Sadly the Cat has also been forgotten when it comes to modularity. That is the entire reason that ship exists.
Why would the current state of weapons when buying a concept ship be a factor? Weapons and components will be rebalanced and completely different, most definitely by the time modularity and the Galaxy are released.
@@joellouisfire because I can't know what they're doing in the future all I have is what we have now. He mentioned guns in his video, I just made a comment about guns. Simple as that.
@@joellouisfire Gun balancing will change ofc but there is no reason they would change the fact, that size 5 and bigger guns aren't meant to combat small and medium fighters. The galaxy will be a sitting duck even in the future.
I gotta point out: I think that the fact modularity has been untouched is due to the fact it would be insane to have to redo modularity if their first implementation was not "gold standard". Imagine the caterpillar and the other ships you mentioned were all functionally modular. Now imagine that the implementation isn't up to the standard cig have reached with their latest ships. There would be a lot of "wasted" work hours put into that original implementation. You can argue there's already wasted work on ships that will receive revisions for modularity, as you mentioned, but for sure it will be less. The fact the galaxy is being revealed means they are beginning to tackle modularity. I agree you should still consider it if you are considering buying the ship to fly sooner rather than later, but long term it's a moot point. I think it's a given that modularity will reach a good stage. I gotta agree with your assesment on the module claims: I'm hoping that rather than a "buy this module" it's "buy a license to this module" so you can install the module from anywhere that stocks them.
Dev has addressed this. They dont have modularity working, because the item linking isn't written, and they guys who would do it are the ones working on server meshing. So until meshing is done, modularity is going to be on hold.
Great video sir! Really shows how sometimes the BEST content is not the FIRST content. You put real thought into your breakdowns and use cases, and were working off of the inevitable corrections to the original “oopsie we made a mistake” burst that CIG always starts off with. I think the only other comparison it would have been great to see/make would have been with the Endeavor, which obviously does not have mention of a refinery, but for those focused on medical and flexibility is likely to offer more. I myself bought a CCU to the Galaxy and the medical module (all with store credit) based on the initial “XS Hangar”, but then changed my mind and melted for an endeavor CCU after the correction. My use case is “large system base of operations” so for my ship that I don’t plan on landing I really need a bigger hangar than XS. Thanks!
I like it but I'm having second thoughts since its a Carrack but with 2 less guns, it would have been a sick combat ship because the design screams combat ship but without a top turret that entire area is a huge blind spot. Will revisit it when they provide more information and perhaps decide if I actually want to own one when its finally released to the PU but right now the Carrack feels much better even though it looks like a space whale and really should be crewed rather than flown solo.
You have to look at it as the Carrack loaner for $350 for the next couple years and a future proof / value lock for CCU purposes.. The price on this thing WILL go up.
Also those "mockups" that werent fleshed out are a second upper floor. Parts of which look down into the hangar and modules. They are independant of the modules and do not change.
Been obsessing over this since IAE.. But the modularity seems like a hard pill to swallow considering everything we've seen from it so far.. Base version CCU maybe come IAE again. Because it sure as heck looks awesome
Am I being unrealistic here, but I would happily settle if CIG released extended 'cinematics' for their concept ships. Wouldn't cost a lot, would do wonders for player good will and, most importantly, it's what I want...
I think CIG is more concerned of making variants than modules. We’ll probably get one galaxy with whatever module is currently lacking in the verse first and probably won’t see the other two for years later if then ever since they have a back log of “modular” ships already. I love the game, wish it to succeed and hope for more gameplay but I’d rather go for ships actually in the game instead of concepts. Would be nice if all of the teams move towards one goal not mention. Like 3.18 is suppose to about cargo, so they should focus on cargo ships, creating cargo missions and cargo inspired game play loops for us to test. Sorry just kinda ranting this point. Back to the topic, would be better to get a ship that’s in game now and just upgrade to a galaxy or melt a ship(s) for it instead if it’s something the player in question would want. Imo. At least that way they ensure they have something over something that will likely take year. Even if the galaxy goes up in price later on. Not to mention the carrack is supposed to be modular too with one of them being cargo pods that will like I heard make it haul something like 900 scu or so.
Or buy the base and earn the modules in game.. Cheap way to get so much utility. I also think that it is important to point out that while everyone compares it to the Carrack, the Carrack is a min crew of 4... The Galaxy is a min crew of 1... So I see the Galaxy as a stepping stone when I don't have the people to run the Carrack IMO.

Needs another turret on the top. And the nose turret needs to be pilot controlled. That is all.
The galaxy really looks like they had a combat ship in mind but then decided to repurpose it as a cool looking modular civilian ship.
My headcanon is it's made with leftover parts from the Perseus and that's why it's such a similar shape.
The Galaxy with a cargo module actually has the same scu capacity of the Caterpillar because it also has 64 scu on its own. 64+512=576
I really hope we get a bespoke RSI "shuttle" at some point, a kin to the Pisces. I like to keep mothership and shuttle within the same manufacturer.

for the rooms and layout, there was one lil issue, the hangar is 2 floors high, the ship has 2 decks so both plans and layouts are valid. the modular room is 1 floor high and in the lower section of the ship
Carrack has modules too... an oft forgotten fact.
That is very correct. Good addition.
No modules till 2026.27 at least though
would be nice to have MFDs with cameras under the ship for landing. Almost like backup cameras on cars today
we of course need that on every ship, one or two cameras under small ships, 3 or more for bigger ones
Get güd
You mean SC should do what Spacebourne 2 (a game being developed by a single person) has already implemented?
Great for Carrack loaner.
Great CCU to hold for concept inflation.
As a ship, it is a tradeoff. Catepillar competition. We need to see what modules they finally bring to the Cat.
At $350, I think the Endeavor is the better base model ship. And there was no mention of the modules for the Carrack.
yeah but at the same time I remember that they mention endeavor being the last thing to be made so I'm not sure if that is worth it especially if one buys it for the express purpose of using the increased price to try to get any capital class ship
Yeah, it'd be nice old they gave us some idea on what the modules are going to be in the carrack
@@thirdworldrider6991 they’re too on the nose with a ships weakness, doesn’t feel natural
What if they raised the Valk $10? Then you miss out on the CCU.
Once you purchase a CCU. It never matters after that point if the price changes. You can apply it at any time
Is day this isn't really comparable to either.
I just got the $5 CCU from the Valk to this. I'll decide to get this once it's flyable. At least I've locked in the price now.
And if they decide to increase the Valk $10, then what?
@@RoroYaKnow so long as he hasn't melted it it will still work, the problem is that if it has been melted then he wont be able to buy back the CCU ;)
@@RoroYaKnow Doesn't matter as long as he doesn't melt it
I would love to see a military variant, that acts as a pocket carrier (RSI has the Gunboat, Torpedo boat, and as such a carrier would fit well in the lineup)
Slightly better weaponry, perhaps better shields, and then the module combined with the hangar to fit 2x Scorpius or something like that. (Im not sure that would actually fit, but one can dream)
That would be the Galaxy of my choice ;)
The Anvil Liberator is a decent little pocket carrier! 2 Scorpius probably won't fit in anything smaller than the Idris though.
Well, you'll just have to suck it up, or go play Starfield.
the most unpleasant thing is if, for the sake of new sales, the old concepts of modular ships will be limited in their modularity
I bought a base version. I love that I get a carrack in the meantime.
I will never understand why people buy jpeg ships with no real information about the product. you basically got fooled by cigs marketing team.

Maybe not something like this but like a 325a customized might be nice
So you want a sitting duck with terrible s5 turret placement, only 1 module slot which means you basically got a worse version of a specialiced ship + the fact that the galaxy won't be released before 2026 for the small jpeg price of 640€ oof.
I love the use of the term "monocle moment" I've never heard it before but now I plan to use it.
It wouldn’t let me ccu the 350 version only the 380 version.

what have you gotten from buying a concept ?
Can we get an update on how you're enjoying your ship you spent money on?
Also, the caterpillar, when modules come, can most probably run different modules at the same time.

If the cargo mod adds 512 scu to the base scu. That gives it similar cargo cap close to a C2... but with a quick
on/offload tractor system. That could be useful
The speed of load/unload is going to be a big difference in cargo ships and that crane system could be a difference maker.
Not being able to fit a prospector in the back is a HUGE loss.
I feel ya. The Misc Odyssey from last year will better suit mining/refining ops anyways with its own lasers and room for a prospector.
I agree id rather have a ship with multipurpose built into the ship instead of having to fly back and swap modules constantly/
Good strategy right there.
For me I can’t see the use for the refinery module as it doesn’t have much room to store refined goods so you’re gonna need another ship anyway,
the cargo module for me is daylight robbery, that’s should have been the base model as I can’t see what use a “modularless” Galaxy would be.
I like the idea of the Medical variant as a potential search and rescue/respawn ship and it seems equipped to perform for far longer and more varied excursions than an Apollo,
given that it has all tiers of Med beds as standard, a cargo lift as let’s face it there will be an URSA medical one day, also the Pisces C8R to go and stabilise and recover.
I understand that people thought modules would be scummy but imagine if they released 3 different ships that would be triple the price
You will be waiting for some time lol. Maybe your children can use the ship….
I bought the base model then later I went to addons and bought the cargo addon all with store credits.
I did as I was already planning on getting the Aquila but the Connie was super buggy. I was also pretty close to Concierge so figured why not.
Reminds me of the Corvus from Battlefront 2. I figure with blades in the future (or ai gunners) will be fine for my gameplay loops
This ship gives me lots of imperial vibes I love it
And the corsair recently was also very star wars feeling
Corsair: ship from Jedi: Fallen Order
It will possibly be a great ship in the distant future, but is not a smart bet at the moment (unless you are one of the clever people using the Galaxy as a cheap way to get a Carrack loaner for the next few years). Like some other commenters I split the difference by picking up a cheap CCU for now. I'm going to reconsider after the Q&A and go from there, but odds are I'll melt the CCU at some point.
I'll probably get this because it looks near identical to Elite Dangerous' Python or Anaconda and that ship was one I neglected to use
Truth be told this ship is quite a good option for players who want to be open in the future
There are new modules to be released and honestly that is what most players who are interested in the ship should choose to take
The empty one is a mistake - you cannot even access the hangar without a module acc to the deck overviews
The carge module is the best option (its the most viable now and will be in the future because the amount of cargo it can carry is decent
Its nice for players to have the additional option to get new modules in the future (ingame) and having the choice to change their module out depending on the needs/interest
For those that want a carrack for half the price…why not - take the empty cheapest version
If you change your mind later you can buy modules ingame but if you really want a carrack - get one now because it will only become more expensive in the future
if they made a super small argo mining ship that would be sick and i could see this being very viable or if they let it hold a prospector
I would also like to think modules will be like what Testla wants to do long term. Which is change out whole batteries instead of charging
In by which stations have modules and because you "own" one it means those stations will swap it out
I keep seeing people say that Tesla wants to swap batteries.......
I'd of bought one if it was flyable... excellent question.
Looks like a possible little carrier/explorer. I'm not crazy for the look but the functionality got me interested. Hmm this or the Endeavor.
Expanse is better when consider having it limited so much to that role, and can land work with a kraken easily and has more refinery units.
excellent and reasonable thoughts all around. thanks!
Fuck, i hate concept ship sales and yet I bought the complete version
Big oof. 640 Dollars for a jpeg xD.
@@StarBuZZpro Oh well
Now this is going to have a base building module or something according to citcon, makes me much more interested in this since the pioneer is ridiculously expensive
Let’s not forget about the BMM at 2880 SCUs IF purchased at $350 or less.
Thanks STL for your breakdown.
Thank you very much. I was about to buy it lol. I think that am going to wait lol
It looks interesting, and would go on my list of "Goal Ships to get with UEC."
Obviously my knee jerk reaction to the title is "no", but I'm just not the type of player who is going to shell out hundreds of dollars for a ship, particularly if it isn't something I could use right away.
just want to correct you on one thing the bridge has 4 seats 3 being for the remote turrets and 1 the pilot seat
Its only going to go up in price and make it easier to hit that target of a Naut =)
About the modules:
Med Bay looks like the same set up as the Apollo.
I could see a torpedo/missile/bomb module with an additional shield generator being offered in the future.
I didn't even think of this. you are going to be a sitting duck for most fighters.
Already bought it. Now I’m waiting, but they gave me another big ship in the meantime
With the crappy state guns are in right now I would prefer size fours because they can shoot at 1400m/s. All size 5s shoot at 700 m/s.
I'll be more interested in this once my Retaliator and Vanguard are modular. Looks sick as hell though.
There had better be a gunship module for this thing.
I wonder if they're thinking of using the same modules for terrestrial outposts.
Thanks!
Good video, thanks for not adding to the stupid big ship drama
💯
The Galaxy looks like the GLORIOUS Python from E.D.
The modules are not warbond exclusive. You can buy them individually for normal rsi store credit as you might get from melts.
Also those "mockups" that werent fleshed out are a second upper floor. Parts of which look down into the hangar and modules. They are independant of the modules and do not change.
Don't forget the Carrack is also going to be modular.
Been obsessing over this since IAE.. But the modularity seems like a hard pill to swallow considering everything we've seen from it so far.. Base version CCU maybe come IAE again. Because it sure as heck looks awesome
I'm buying it for looks alone....it's a beautiful ship.
I was tempted to CCU, but i'll keep my MSR for now ^.^ (and probably for years to come)
Am I being unrealistic here, but I would happily settle if CIG released extended 'cinematics' for their concept ships.
