I was a teenager when "Seattle Music " took over radio and MTV ,two of my still favorite bands "Alice In Chains and Soundgarden " blazed the trail for me then came Nirvana and Pearl Jam into my life. It's sad to say of all those bands and amazing front men Eddie Vedder is the last living and Peal jam is still very much alive. The songs that took my notice were Jeremy Even Flow Black and Alive. A very close friend of mine was The biggest Pearl Jam fan and also Chicago Cubs Baseball fan sadly he passed away before hearing Eddie Vedder release what would have been both of our favorite PJ / Vedder songs All The Way became the rally song as Cubs fans finally got our first World Series win in 108 year, so that's my favorite of all .
In 1992 and being in high school when you were still figuring out how to handle these new and strange emotions, this song ripped through my heart like it was made of tissue paper.
I grew up in the Grunge era. Pure Emotion, Loathing, Hurt. Nothing will ever compare. Eddie has one of the best voices. Jeremy first song. Pearl Jam is just a must. I still listen to them everyday 30 years later.
This could be one of the greatest performances by PJ. Or Unplugged history. Or music history. Chills and tears every time. Breakups are painful and Eddie captures that perfectly.
I grew up with Pearl Jam in the 90's and this song, specifically that iconic line of you'll be a star in somebody else's sky, still conjures up the heartbreak, regrets, and what could have been. During those times when I felt like the world was caving in, I would listen to this song almost manically. Many of us, in our immaturity, made mistakes in that special relationship that, to this day, we wish we could take back.
I first saw them in concert at the Moore in Seattle in 1992. You are going to be amazed at their music. You happened upon one of the greatest bands of the early 90's Seattle scene and that continues to this day! Thanx for the reaction. I love it when young folks find out how special the music of my era was.
In the early 90s, four bands emerged from the obscure Seattle underground, and took the world by storm. They were: Alice In Chains Nirvana Pearl Jam Soundgarden Collectively, they were known as “Grunge.” (Which is that black stuff you find at the bottom of your gutter.) There were a lot more great Grunge acts, of course. But these were the Big 4. Please check them all out.
I started to comment before the video ended but you made the comment before I was able to, I was watching your face during the second half of the song and I could see the point in which the emotion literally hit you deep. Eddie's style doesn't always sit well with some but he has a way of really getting his emotions into the music and I've listened to the from the beginning. You should check out the story of how he became part of the group. Really glad that you jumped onto this train and I can't wait for you to check out more of their music. I haven't looked through your entire catalog of reactions but this grunge and alt era of rock is amazing, pure raw talent and emotion.

The song is about a persons first relationship or first true love. And for what ever reason it went bad or black and it broke his heart.Pearl Jam has always been one of my favorite bands Eddie.Vedder has a unique voice and vocal range. There another great grunge band from Seattle.Alive was the first Pearl Jam song that i heard and brings back memories.🖤🤍
@@kootermccoglin6915 I was there when it happened, just a few meters from where he jumped in the crowed. It was an amazing show. In 2018 at Pinkpop, he re-told the story where he thought the camera guy was mad at him for climbing in the crane, but he was yelling at the crew to hold the crane in place. Little did Eddie know since he did not understand what the camera guy was yelling, so he met with him again in 2018 to come to terms.
I heard this performance so many times and still gives me goose bumps, all of us has experienced the pain and can relate to Eddie hear. He is clearly pouring all his emotions right on stage. The line “I know someday you have a beautiful life, I know you will be a star ⭐️ in somebody else sky but why can it be mine” hits hard. One of my favorite bands of all time, there is a great performance of release me that really emotional and powerful. I will find it and post the link here.
After Chris Cornell died (Soundgarden, Audioslave), Eddie sang this in tribute at a concert, with a slightly different ending. That was a heartbreaking performance. He breaks down for a moment during it.
Peral Jam is one of the more iconic bands of the 90's. "Evenflow", "Jeremy" (first song I ever heard) and "Alive" are by far my favorites. You are in for a great experience listening to more of these guys. Eddie Vedder was one of those singers who was so unique and distinct and a pleasure to listen to live!!
Ten was such a game changer. This album (cassette) was on repeat in the car for close to a year. Frist song I remember from them was "Jeremey" then "Even Flow" and "Alive" Eddie's lyrics just hit home. Plus he was awesome in Singles. "A compliment for us... is a compliment for you"
Pearl Jam came out in the early 90's from the Seattle rock scene w/ Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains... they were associated w/ the 90's 'grunge rock' scene that took over America and the world back in 1992 - '94, but they lasted quite a bit longer. Pearl Jam's debut album 'Ten' in 1991 actually outsold Nirvana's iconic 'Nevermind' album (also 1991)... 12 million copies in the US to date, thanks to the huge hit single 'Jeremy' that had a dark music video in 1992... 'Even flow' and 'Alive' were the other MTV singles, and 'Black' became a hit on radio. However, Pearl Jam did not embrace their newfound fame and refused to appear on MTV or do music videos for over a decade. After the death of vocalist Andrew Wood in 1990, Seattle rock band Mother Love Bone disbanded after the loss of their singer... 2 former members - Jeff Ament (bass) and Stone Gossard (guitar) decided to put a new rock band together w/ Mike McCready (guitar) and Dave Krusen (drums)... They picked Eddie Vedder (lead vocals) and named the band Pearl Jam in 1991. Signing w/ Epic Records, they recorded the 1st album 'Ten' before replacing Krusen w/ Dave Abbruzese (drums) and releasing the album in the fall of 1991. With Nirvana breaking big late in '91, the label focused on promoting Pearl Jam and pushed the singles 'Even flow' and 'Alive' on MTV as sales for 'Ten' started to take off... The band did 'MTV Unplugged' in the Spring of '92. The powerful music video for 'Jeremy' pushed the album to #2 on the US charts later that year. Rather than promote Pearl Jam in the media, the band withdrew from the spotlight... Their second album 'Versus' in 1993 reached #1 on the US charts and sold 7 million copies without any MTV appearances... only radio singles and concert tours ...and the band preferred to play that raw, guitar-oriented hard rock. Matt Cameron (drums) joined in 1998 until today. Pearl Jam kept recording and releasing albums in the 90's, but they sold less... by 2000 and started to play more of a stoner rock style of music like The Grateful Dead than 90's 'grunge rock'... They kept the sound basic - raw guitars, bass, drums and vocals... and they maintained their popularity worldwide to this day. Other Pearl Jam classics - 'Animal' ... 'Better man' ... 'Given to fly' ... 'Evacuation' ... 'Daughter' ... 'Nothing as it seems'... 'Life wasted'... 'Release'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘
I love this band , the origin of this band is a sad but awesome story. So there was this band called Mother Love Bone , and Andrew Wood had over dosed and passed away. So this guy named Chris Cornell decided to do a tribute album and tour , called the project Temple of the Dog and asked his good friend Eddie Vedder to do a couple vocal tracks on the project. A few of the other member were former members of Mother Love Bone like Stone Gossard and Mike McCreedy. After the project , they formed Pearl Jam. The Song I like the most is "Alive" or Jeremy. Don't hesitate to look into Mother Love Bone though~
@@clarryhill I still to this day listen to them , Songs like Bone China , Stardog Champion , Chloe , Man of Golden Words and so many more , funny thing is Pearl Jam still does a ton of those songs live.
I have to remind myself (now in my 50's) that there's a whole generation of kids who have never heard bands like Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, etc. much less experienced 90's alternative/grunge when it was actually happening!
I cant remember exactly which PJ song I heard first because their first album is completely all hits. Every song pretty much were all bangers and most got lots of radio play
“Jeremy” is the first song I heard from Pearl Jam! I think they still tour today! Hey we’re out when stone temple pilots and nirvana and soundgarden where huge and it was a badass time for music with the grunge bands filling the charts! Great song and reaction! My favorite song from Pearl Jam is “evenflow” it’s a great song too!
Pearl Jam is so much better than Nirvana ever was. Nirvana was the face of Grunge but Pearl Jam, Sound Garden and Alice in Chains were the heart and soul. Also, my first Pearl Jam song was Alive. It was on Headbangers ball on MTV and I was hooked as soon as I heard it.
Why does it always have to be an either or proposition with some people? Every band you mention was GREAT in their OWN right -- Why disrespect Kurt and Nirvana because they sorta got the lead press on that GRUDGE, I mean Grunge, music highway? To my mind (at least to what I've heard or been aware of) the "Grudge" era was the LAST GREAT Rock music era. Nirvana held their own -- their best is right there with the best of all those bands. On any day, you like that band, or that one, or that one ... better
"Daughter" was my first Pearl Jam song, and it is still my favorite. There are a group of bands called the Big 5 of Grunge. Pearl Jam is the only band to have not lost their lead singer to death. 😢
@@Camothor10 Sorry, but I'm not the one who came up with the term the Big 5 of Grunge nor was I the one who designated the bands who make up the Big 5. I just assumed that it was common knowledge who the Big 5 of Grunge are, and the Pixies aren't one of them regardless of their contribution to the genre. A lot of fans only recognize the Big 4 of Grunge, and exclude STP because they are not from Seattle. The Pixies would definitely be excluded, because these elitist will hardly recognize any band not from the West Coast. You're taking this argument up with the wrong person. I'm sure there's a sub-Reddit out there where they debate this all hours of the day. Not on some random Pearl Jam reaction video.
Vedder is 1 of the most passionate vocalists to come out of grunge. Also, they protested Ticket Master over their fees. Event insurance companies wouldn’t cover them sometimes because Ed had a habit of climbing scaffolding, trusses and rigging, to deadly heights and would hang off and sing. And though they have been through multiple drummers, they have the 1 they always wanted now.
The first PJ song I heard was Alive and it was around the release of the album Ten. I've been a huge fan ever since. Jeremy is probably my favourite PJ song. Just the sound of it, and the power of its subject matter. But there are SO, SO many good PJ songs.
My first PJ song was "Alive", from the 10 album. Keep watching Unplugged tunes from this performance! The band -- and especially Eddie Vedder -- give it their all and it's amazing! One song I love is "State of Love & Trust". It RIPS!! This whole performance is magic!
Alive was the first Pearl Jam song I heard. You should react to the studio version. There's a music video but it's different from the studio version. Also Even Flow(music video), Jeremy (music video), Porch (Unplugged), Animal, Daughter, Go, Rearviewmirror, Rats, Last Exit, Not For You, Corduroy, Nothing man, Better Man, Immortality, Who You Are, Present Tense, Hail, Hail. Off He Goes, Red Mosquito. I mean there're so many. Newer stuff. Mind Your Manners, Save You, Love Boat Captain, Sirens, Dance of the Clairvoyants, and others
Love your reaction. I feel it too, every time I hear it. First heard Pearl Jam when the album “Ten” was a new release in early 90s. “Alive” was the first song I heard, browsing a record shop near my college campus and the clerk played it. I liked them at the time, but preferred the edgier sound of bands like Nirvana. PJ had a commercial sound to my ear, but they grew on me quickly. Awesome performer, too.
Pearl Jam is one of the greatest Live rock bands of all time. This is a great early performance and Pearl Jam are still making albums and selling out giant stadiums. There is literally 30 years worth of incredible Live performances from this epic band.
The number of people who haven’t heard of Pearl Jam and are doing these react videos to Black simply astounds me. It is also making me realize that I’m old. 😂 I remember listening to the album when it was first released. Eddie Vedder is one of my favorite vocalists of all time. I’m glad new generations are still discovering PJ!
This was a song me and my friends use to listen to in my teenage years. Still listen to it today. Eddie Vedder sings with such conviction and has an incredible range. One of the iconic songs from the 1990's
ALIVE is the first PEARL JAM song i ever heard, ALIVE, and EVEN FLOW official videos and songs on the album TEN, are live recordings. They are still ONE OF THE BEST LIVE BANDS, I have ever seen, ALICE IN CHAINS ⛓️ is my favorite though.
Definately one of the best vocalists of the entire grunge movement. Your reaction was spot on! Songs to try: Alive, Even Flow, Jeremy, those are songs that will pull you right on in..
This freaking song kills me every time...the pain of losing his wife in divorce is brutal and the love he has for her that even through the agony of losing her, he knows that it's because he has to love her and wish her the best on the way out the door...I know the feeling to Love that deep, but if you really Love her, you Lover her enough to let her go...This song was great then and is just as great now....I saw this air on MTV it was a mind blowing performance.
"Jeremy" was the first Pearl Jam song I heard. I love a lot of their songs and can't really choose a favorite, but "Black" is way up there on my list. I must've listened to "Man of the Hour" a thousand times after my Dad passed away [I still do from time to time when I'm mourning him].
Honestly, this is one of the most heartfelt performances ever. I cannot watch that without feeling emotional and most times even crying, i can't even begin to imagine how Eddie felt when he was performing that 😢. You need to react to Nutshell, the Unplugged version as well, Laney gave an incredible performance as well. Also Chris Cornell's version of "Nothing compares 2 U" you'll thank me later.
Black was the first pearl jam song i heard this version and i was absolutely immediately hooked. I'm 36 and i just found this song about a year ago. Id recommend listening to the Live black and white Version of the song release (Holland) from pearl jam. Id recommend the comfortably numb live cover from Brasil. And also Alive and Jeremy from this same MTV unplugged show that we saw in this video here.
Jeremy,it blew my mind!!! I had never heard anything like it at the time. They have a great catalog of music imo. Great job and I can't believe you have never heard this!!!
I'm always shocked when someone says they have never heard of such iconic and well known musical groups. There is so much music out there for you to discover.
I hadn't heard of them until one of their songs was in The Last of Us Part 2, and then I fell down a Pearl Jam rabbit hole. It does seem crazy for how long they've been active.
That man opened his chest and exposed his broken heart and wailed for it and pleaded for his lost love in front of us all. A pure masterpiece of lyrics and performance that takes me back to being a lost 18 year old kid in 1992. I’ve listened to these guys for 30 years now and I still cry at this song.
Even Flow was probably the first PJ song I heard on the radio. Funny thing is I heard the Muzak version at the Dr.'s office last week. Don't let the MTV acoustic set throw you off. They may be called "grunge", but they are truly ROCK. They're still going strong after 30 years.. And I've never seen Eddie sing that he didn't pour his soul into, that's why I tend to prefer live performances. Most people suggest songs off their first album "Ten", but they are so much more.
"Alive" was the first song PJ ever released. it was pm their album called "10" same album as the studio version of Black. every song on 10 is great, onne of the best debut albums by any band, but "Alive" is by far still their best song
You need to listen to oceans, do the evolution, jeremy, and hunger strike by temple of the dog with Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell. Also this song is basically a try not to cry challenge and cry a lot, then cry harder type of song. Loving you reactions here, Lilly.
The first song from Pearl Jam I remember listening to is Jeremy. Powerful song. My older sister was huge into grunge in the early 90s and she would constantly be watching MuchMusic (Canada's version of MTV). I was 5 years old at the time and I remember seeing the video and loving the song and Eddie Vedder's voice, but not really understanding what the content of the song was about. And it is a doozy of a song. If you react to this song, it has to be the music video for it.
I've seen this quite a few times and this shows why talented rockers can make so much money. This is one of their most popular songs, so it's likely a part of most, if not every tour. If Eddie doesn't give it his all and relive the breakup, every performance, the fans will know. That's like a 4-5 minute mental, emotional, physical trauma inflicted on yourself. 4 days a week for 4 months or so (for 30 years now and still bringing it!). And it's only one song in a show that is generally 2-3 hours of high energy.
When Eddie sings " I know one day you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star...in somebody else's sky." I grew up in the Grunge era. Pure Emotion, Loathing, Hurt. Nothing will ever compare. Eddie has one of the best voices. Jeremy first song. Pearl Jam is just a must. I still listen to them everyday 30 years later.
Yeah, we had some great music in the 90's. To bad it's being forgotten.
They were:
Alice In Chains
Nirvana
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Collectively, they were known as “Grunge.” (Which is that black stuff you find at the bottom of your gutter.)
There were a lot more great Grunge acts, of course. But these were the Big 4.
Please check them all out.
..
Very sad, and beautiful beautiful song. It reaches the soul because it was written with the heart.
Great band, ever, Pearl Jam.
The album "Ten" is amazing. The song "Garden" is easily in my top 5 songs... ever.
One of my favorite Pearl Jam tracks. Another one is Jeremy and the next is everything else
First CD I ever bought . Garden……underrated, haunting …one of the best Pearl Jam songs . Look it up
@@gomezgomez6299Garden is very underrated, beautiful haunting song, one of my favorites! Many many favorites! 😊💓🤘✌️
This is by far my favorite Pearl Jam song. But, I agree with others, you should do the whole Ten album.
First song I heard was Alive from their first album. This whole unplugged set is amazing as well as their Pinkpop concert performance.
Black was the first PJ song I ever heard back in 1992 and it hit me the way it hit you even back then. Still love the song.
Oh my, never heard of Pearl Jam? Man, are you in for a treat when you get into their other iconic songs. I can't wait for you to hear them.
The 90s....take this musical moment and multiply it by 20 billion. That was the 90s. It still lives within all of us Generation Xers.
WORD 🎯😜🤘
💯🔥
Loved your emotional rection!
Seeing the young generation understanding Eddie and PJ is wonderful to see. And it will always be ALIVE!!
Pretty much any live video of Porch is guaranteed insanity. Even the unplugged version
Porch live at Pinkpop 1992 is the best imo
@@rubentullenaar2934 hell yeah. It’s hard to pick a favorite but the higher he climbs the happier I am
Loved your emotional reaction to this wonderful performance ❤
This song always without fail brings back strong feelings from my youth. So intense.
All of the songs that you mentioned are off of the album Ten. That is an amazing debut album.
Definitely check out Jeremy or Daughter next! Both amazing songs
I’ve been listening to this since the early nineties and I did cry just now.
First I ever heard was Jeremy. I also highly suggest Breathe, Wishlist, Do the Evolution, Last Kiss (cover), and Evenflow.
Ten was such a game changer. This album (cassette) was on repeat in the car for close to a year. Frist song I remember from them was "Jeremey" then "Even Flow" and "Alive" Eddie's lyrics just hit home. Plus he was awesome in Singles. "A compliment for us... is a compliment for you"
Great reaction, Lilly. Now I think your next Pearl Jam reaction should be the song "Alive". Both studio and mtv unplugged versions are awesome.
"Even Flow" & "Jeremy" were the 1st songs I heard from PEARL JAM. "Release" is my personal favorite
So much awesome PEARL JAM music to check out. 👌🎶
This is by far my favorite song from them . Whe. I was your age they used to play this over on the radio for, time to time ….
This is my favorite of the mtv unplugged series... Pearl jam is the best!!!
I recommend their song "Jeremy" next. The official uncensored/uncut video is a must for this song.
Mother Love Bone was great. It’s sad you very rarely hear of them.
Great reaction! Jeremy (uncensored) and Even flow are musts! Cheers!
I cant remember exactly which PJ song I heard first because their first album is completely all hits. Every song pretty much were all bangers and most got lots of radio play
1991 MTV Alive. Still one of my favorite PJ songs and Oceans
Yeah.....yeah, you wanna explore more Pearl Jam
Oceans live unplugged is absolutely spectacular
This and Nirvana was during My High School experiences... My first exposure was to the song Jeremy.... that was a dark one!
Totally agree, Pearl Jam were classic rock, seen Pearl Jam 3 times live, absolutely love this band.
Very true statement 👌
Check out Stone Temple Pilot's.
On any day, you like that band, or that one, or that one ... better
Are you stupid? Nirvana and PJ are in two different categories. Nirvana was pure grunge, PJ was alternative rock.
I love watching Eddie melt girls' hearts
"Daughter" was my first Pearl Jam song, and it is still my favorite. There are a group of bands called the Big 5 of Grunge. Pearl Jam is the only band to have not lost their lead singer to death. 😢
Great song often overlooked
Black Francis is still alive
@Camothor10 Sorry, the Pixies is a great band, but not one of the Big 5 of Grunge (Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, STP and Pearl Jam).
@@beckf1858 they pretty much invented it and were the main inspiration for Kurt
I cry every time.... from the day of release until now. Pearl Jam is timeless
I had Daughter on cassette and listened to it on repeat on the bus to school. Love that sone so much 🖤🖤
Their album “Ten” is said to be one of the best albums ever made.
The first PJ song I heard was Alive and it was around the release of the album Ten. I've been a huge fan ever since. Jeremy is probably my favourite PJ song. Just the sound of it, and the power of its subject matter. But there are SO, SO many good PJ songs.
First song I heard was probably Even Flow or Alive. But I'd highly suggest Rearview Mirror, it's fantastic.
Hey, I think you about covered my top 25... LOL
State of Love and Trust from this show is probably my favorite. Entire show is fantastic, honestly.
They've got so many great songs. Check anything off the album _"Ten"._ I'd personally suggest *"Alive"* and *"Even Flow"*
I'm not a massive Pearl Jam fan but imagine hearing Eddie's voice for the first time against the current musical backdrop. She needs to hear Cornell.
This isn't about his divorce. He was with Beth at the time. But they weren't married yet.
This live performance is legend. I never get bored of it. Good find.
I like your react
I grow up with Pearl Jam. I ve see them 3 times. 😊
-Oceans MTV unplugged
-Master of war (Tribute to Bob Dylan)
Black was the first pearl jam song i heard this version and i was absolutely immediately hooked. I'm 36 and i just found this song about a year ago.
Id recommend listening to the Live black and white Version of the song release (Holland) from pearl jam.
Id recommend the comfortably numb live cover from Brasil.
And also Alive and Jeremy from this same MTV unplugged show that we saw in this video here.
The live version of " Pourch " is their best performance!!
The crowd singing Better Man in Auckland '98 will take some beating. Eddie was in tears.
First song: Even Flow, still a fav 3 decades later.
Great performance and song but oof, hits close to home. Thank you for the reaction.
More pearl jam please! "Oceans" "porch" "release"
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town, Daughter, Yellow Ledbetter, Nothing Man....
Goosebumps every time. So many memories with this song.
He is the only one left.............
@@Iansco1 R.I.P. Kurt, Scott, Layne, and Chris.
Me too!!!!
@Anavanessalopes still one of my all time favorites.
