The legendary musician and his band Pearl Jam are arguably the most influential band of the '90s. He is also one of the few rock frontmen that has managed to avoid destroying his life with mind-altering substances.
But Vedder has faced his fair share of obstacles and struggles in his life. Behind his smooth vocals lies a life filled with hardship and loss. This is the truth of Eddie Vedder.

Alice In Chains ⛓
Pearl jam by far.
Layne, Kurt, Chris, Scott all dead, Eddie still going strong. We need to preserve this guy as the last living evidence of grunge
Comments like this are so stupid and so annoying the Seattle grunge scene was an hour away from the Vancouver Grinch scene the only reason there was a Seattle grunge alternative thing at all is because it was right next to Canada notice how it didn't grow anywhere else in the country yeah the next time you're thinking about the great alternative bands of the 90s you may want to include moist and a few others that are so often overlooked but were leading factor to douchebags like Eddie Vedder even becoming famous,,
So? who cares? Blues inspired rock and roll, yet no one gives a damn about blues, when was the last time you saw a guy listening to Led Zeppelin and immediately switching to Muddy Waters?
Please...Vedder road those legends' coattails.
@@jazeapokergoda219 did you not read my comment? I said the *last living evidence of grunge*
I've thought exactly that since Chris and Chester were murdered. I listen daily still

A man of integrity, honour and principles. Almost a pity he is so gifted ; we could get him to run for President : turn this ship right around !

I respect Eddie but he’s a sellout care …another corrupt shill ..
Absolutely. ✨✨✨
YOu know you're pretty wild when the Red Hot Chili Peppers call you Wild Eddie
Git R Dun!!!!!!!!!
yeah, the nice thing is unlike rhcp he doesn't have to use drugs to be wild, why do rock stars crave authenticity, but need to get high constantly, if you truly want to be authentic and carve your own path, be sober imo.
Called him crazy Eddie
Truth
"Crazy Eddie"
The only man that never disapointed me.
@mark james You seem pretty pathetic. It's quite fun seeing you waste your time by going to several comments shittalking him. If you dont like him thats fine, but you seem to be dedicated to going around spreading hate. If you dont like him no need to listen to his music or watch videos with him in them.
So very true
Mark he is absolutely brilliant at his Art, the best I would say, get your free hearing check, God Bless
@JRD Wow really. A white man? Jeez, that's some racist shit right there.
@Ambivalent did he comment on that? Why would he do that to that to his drummer....I hope he had some solid reasons, otherwise I would be very disappointed at Vedder ...:(
Eddie Vedder is just like Keanu Reeves, everybody loves him because he is a nice dude doing nice things to people
perfect analogy. thank you
That seems like a good comparison to me. I haven't met Keanu Reeves but I do know Eddie Vedder.
I think the only person that thinks he s a dick is Dave A and it is understandable.
@@bradbalsley9052 Rick Weinman says Eddie is the worse boss he ever had. I've seen on you tube videos of Eddie being very disrespectful to him during shows and Rick has told me horror stories of his drinking and abusive behavior toward him. Before I knew Rick I was a huge pearl jam fan. I mean huge! When I seen how Eddie tried to humiliate Rick in LA in front of the whole crowd in 2013 I was enraged and so disappointed. Mind you I didn't know Rick then but had met at show in Dallas 2 weeks before. I got to know him later on. My opinion of Eddie has changed drastically and not for the good. Plus the way they continued to snub Dave Abbruzzesse over the years just shows piss poor chicken shit behavior. Hate the guy if they want but no one can deny his contributions to the band in the early years. And this band snubs Dave every time. Other than that I've made cool friends seen awesome shows and made great memories because of Eddie and Pearl Jam. He is a hell of a singer and song writer and entertainer.
@@prestonhicks9752 I totally understand you’re anger towards Eddie I also thought it was childish and poor behavior but 17 years as Pearl Jam’s guitar tech how could you mess up something so simple again nobody deserves that but from the bands point of view being deep into the show with all that adrenaline and emotion put in to every song and especially sirens where after the solo the acoustic plays an important part I understand why it bothered Eddie
Long live Eddie Vedder and his support for many causes that are often overlooked.
✌😎
Yep..I was just thinking the same, he’s amazing 😉
I love that man and I'm so happy he's still with us. He's a good man. Long live Eddie Vedder!
"I'd fall asleep in class". - True story, I had Eddie's government teacher in '92, about a decade after he was sitting in that very class @ San Dieguito High in Encinitas. The teacher mentioned how Eddie would sit in the back of class and basically be silent and disconnected. Which was surreal to hear about as Jeremy was on an hourly blast on MTV at the time.
Lovely anecdote!
Liar! 🤥
I love this guy - his voice of course, his leadership as a loving human being, and all the caring support he offers. Now seeing him as a husband and father, wow. He even comes to our local high school across the street to support the arts in Encinitas CA. Just a spectacularly beautiful man, within and without.....
Great choice 👌
9 Jo hi
He has a soft spot for Encinitas. We played a spontaneous show there once for the people of Encinitas, his family and friends.
I'm soooooooo jealous, but yes how amazing is he, never let fame go to his head, not many celebrities can say that and it ACTUALLY be truth.
This artist is soo under rated. He is a one of a kind. Theres only One Eddie Vedder. Thank you for the music, your energy, your talent, your gift to the world of rock and roll and its listeners! Life changing human being. Rest in Peace Chris, Andy, Kurt. Chester. Long live the Grunge. Thank you Mr. Vedder.
There is only one of you and me but eddie vedder is more powerful and more effective than us. That doesnt mean we are worse and he is better, no. Everyone is special on their own and we create such different things as art, meal, technology etc.
Underrated my ass. I'm a child of 80s and 90s and he's literally one of the best musicians I've ever heard. Vedder has several movie soundtracks under his belt. That's not underrated.
Using the word underrated IS way to OVERRATED here in youtube land, YOU see others saying it all the time, so YOU find it easy to say. NEVER be a follower, be a leader !! Be your TRUE self, NEVER follow others, following others IS a weakness. Truth !
@on my way was thinking the same thing lol
Pearl Jam is in the hall of fame.. how can he be under rated?
Pearl jam has been the soundtrack to my life since 91, so grateful for this band 🤘🤘
Can't be the only one binge watching rock and roll-related videos during quarantine
I’m still in love with this man,
He is my hero. Nobody can be that kind and nice, and also be a hyper talent.
He's also generous, grounded and authentic. he is truly a decent guy.
A legend wise before his time. Some of his songs are so spiritually advanced, once I had my own awakening, many of his songs were understood on a whole new level.
He was always a hero in my eyes.
YES, exactly!
Got to know a saint in the rock world tonight, Eddie Vedder. My music was the Stones and the Beatles mainly, but Pearl Jam arrived much later. I never really listened to their stuff until tonight, but hey, my tastebuds are tinglin' from Jam tonight, and I am stunned by how much Eddie V. cares for his fellow man. A big thank you foer thinking about others, Eddie!
In other words, the man overcame his difficult upbringing against all odds. He proceeded to channel his personal experiences and became a legendary artist. He used his platform to speak out for valient political topics. Humanitarian. Activist. He deserves so much respect and admiration. One of the greatest talents we will ever know.
Not to forget his amazing music in the movie “Into the Wild”! That movie is one of my favorites! Amazing collaboration of Sean Penn, Eddie, Emile, Kristen, Catherine....
Yeah man beautiful album and movie. The song Society x
Yes! That movie is magic in every way. And the soundtrack is so incredibly perfect amd beautiful
Mine too!
Such a good movie and story. Big hard sun is a great song from that movie.
@Phil McCrevice typical right negativity & hate. It must suck to be one of you. Who is your hero, trump, alex jones, steve bannon? Despicable sub humans.
Their music saved me as a teenager and he is a very very special human being 💜
Eddie Vedder is a very intense performer. You cannot take your eyes off of him. One could easily put Vedder at the top of the list of all singers from the early 90's, as well as Staley, Weiland & Cobain. So different yet equally gifted. 4 of my favorites. 🤘
We need to protect this man at all costs. He is the last of a legendary group of grunge gods.

Yeah I've said this a number of times after Chris Cornell left us..
This guy saved my life so many times. His music pulled me out of black hole of sadness every time. I’m out of words to describe by admiration for him.
Eddie is an absolutely amazing, thoughtful, wonderful human being.
Musically, I'm more of a Soundgarden fan, but I've always liked Eddie. Nice video! Thank you!
Chris is one of the finest of musicians vocally(rip) but, Eddie explores new projects and his depth is uncanny.
Me too, but Pearl Jam isn't far behind.
Met eddie after a show. Real nice guy. Nice to talk to instead of being a holes like some other singers.
in a way i can understand why rock stars get fed up with fans, it's unnatural to be idolised so much, and everyone wants to be you're best friend for superficial reasons. But the fact that eddy is not like others famous musicians speaks volumes about him as a human being, it's really quite impressive.
@@crabbtrixexp Or even if the reasons aren't superficial, everybody wanting to be your best friend in itself would be too much...
Mitchell S. exactly, and he tried to embrace it and really reach out to so many individual fans, that takes a lot of empathy, even though it’s likely to be impossible, it was very brave to try
As someone who was a close friend of Eddies for a short time I can tell you he is a really nice guy. He's got a huge heart, he means well and wants the best for everyone. He's caring, generous, grounded, and very authentic. There aren't many people I know who quite compare to EV.
Unless your name is Dave Abbruzzese
@Don't Drink The Kool Aid. Or Rick Weinman AKA Ricky Ramone.
Neglected to tell how Chris Cornell asked Eddie to sing on Temple of the Dog and helped facilitate Pearl Jam?
If I may give you my view on that , Chris Cornell was exceptional in all the ways possible and to be able to help friend was his natural response and I am sure he never ever thought of it the way you are now. Eddie is successful in what he does because of his own gifts and abilities and his own hard work not fair to say he wouldn’t be where he is now if it wasn’t for Chris. RIP Chris you left us way to early. Love and light🌸
A mutual friend suggested Eddie to Chris. They told Chris to check him out and got him a tape. Chris was living in Seattle and Eddie was living in California. Once Chris heard the tape of Eddie singing he wanted to bring him in for “Hunger Strike”.
Eddie and the guys from Temple hit it off.
@fvck ïtœl Chris could hit all the notes, he was just having trouble going back and forth. Vedder was watching, and decided to jump in and help. It worked, Chris dug it, and that's how they did it.
Thanks Einstein. Chris used to play guitar before becoming a vocalist. Life is crazy.
Hunger strike....great song
Nothing but respect for this man
Love Eddie. Love Pearl Jam. Their music makes me happy.
I’m happy he’s one of the very few who wasn’t a victim of depression and drug addiction. God bless the ones who are and still fighting🙏🏼
Ya, he's a cool guy.
Discovering Eddie brought me out of depression and then listening to the band's music didn't arrest they have been my favorite ever since. And Eddie Vedder is a wonderful guy
Not only is eddie thee most amazing rock star because of his music, but hes a class act. I love this dude.
what he did for the west memphis 3, i mean, can i really say anything? the action speaks for itself, what a stand-up man. God Bless u Eddie
Actor Johnny Depp was also involved in that. He and Damien Echols are close. He's on Johnny's Instagram page. Johnny and Damien share matching tattoos. I love watching Eddie and Johnny perform the song Society.
Eddie landed in San Diego long before 1984. He was in my 6th grade class in 1976. He lived about 15 minutes from me. He was always kind and soft spoken. Really a cool guy.
I like how Grunge's Truth About isn't necessarily drama, and shade, just insight. It's refreshing.
Much respect to Eddie Vedder! This was a very interesting Bio, & I really think this Rock Star deserves every single cent he gets. He is honestly a wonderful person who has never forgotten what it's like to struggle. STAY HEALTHY, in August 2020, everyone, & VOTE in November 2020! It will go down in history as 1 of the most important times to VOTE.
I have the lyrics to Rearview Mirror tattooed on my shoulder, when Pearl Jam came on the since in Australia in 1992/1993 I was 12/13 and living in a foster home, although I always loved music even back then being a huge fan of Gun's n Roses and Metallica and the likes, Pearl Jam just went that 1 step further for me, 30 years on I am now 43 and my love of the band and their music has never wavered and their music is the back drop/ theme song to so many memories in my life, good and bad, I feel lucky to have been at that prime age where music is so influential when Pearl Jam hit the big time, it's one thing to hear the music now and love it but it's another thing to grow up with it and I feel blessed I had that.
Rearview Mirror is the song I will have played at my funeral but until that day I will continue to enjoy and appreciate the talent that is Pearl Jam.
@Courtney Y'all are the damn best. I'm honored to have the kind of support that you show me, thank you. How are you doing it is nice meeting you here btw
I visited Taos Pueblo years ago and was i was invited into one of the elders houses. There was a picture of Eddie on a table. Someone asked why there was a photo of him and the elderly man said it was his grandson.................
@@grungestoryteller Oh poor you. Better keep off the meth
He's a true survivor. The fact that he successfully avoided the band killer (Heroine) is just amazing. All the other grunge frontmen of his era has passed away. Mostly due to suicide and drugs but he's I, ao he's still alive
No day passes as i am listening to PJ's music. Every day, probably till i die....
His speaking voice still melts me.

Eddie V. You are truly an amazing human (🏄 surfer) being.
I can remember a long long time ago when my life was aimless boring and senseless .I was a security guard on a construction site in Victorville California . With wood framed up walls a little drywall and no windows and I walked and danced and ran around inside the Halls of that unfinished building with my Sony Walkman headphones on for almost a year with nothing but Pearl Jam lodged inside the music machine that's all I could do that's all I wanted to do that's all I still want to do is listen in to your soothing sounds.
Pearl Jam changed my life and I'm a very successful person to this day .
Live- love - & - listen to your people Eddie.
Eddie Vedder is the man with the most amazing voice. I love his shy ways.
"Black" is the first song that I heard of his & I knew I had to find out who sung it.

I like his sincerity... seems like an down to earth person and he definitely can sing. How he has helped people shows his compassionate heart. Thank you 😊
I love this guy so much that I named my oldest son after him.
I was a terrible opiate addict, I was gonna end up dead or in jail, for longer than I'd already been, so I decided to lock myself in my room out on my grandparents farm, and listen to PJ for about 13 days...worked better than any rehab, I have 7 years clean this month..he saved my life

Being overwhelmed by a need to not let anyone down...I SO get this. It is exhausting...
Why did they name their first album Ten? Because that was Mookie Blaylock's number! Eddie does a lot for the environment. He loves the ocean and ocean life. He and his wife do so much more for kids in hospitals and for the community that isn't listed because they don't do it for the cameras! He's truly one of the good guys.
@@lincolnjudge5230 well recording was 3 weeks. Many songs were written stone years earlier. The lyrics were written over a period of about 8 months from when they met eddie until they recorded for the 3 weeks. So 10 days, no

The music of Pearl Jam was always on my side throughout my life bringing back lots of memories

The truth is he's an amazing lyricist and songwriter.
Great to see someone who is extremely talented, fortunate and at the same time very humble!
I remember one of the first interviews they ever did, that I heard, was for a Chicago music station and Eddie was amazing, so honest, I could tell shy, but straight, even then it was about the music, being sincere, what his fans wanted - not about looking 'good' and sounding like a pretentious prima donna which is how the interviewer was trying to angle it... Always loved him, deserves all the success and good will possible... And he's a unique performer! 🙏👍✨😎

I know that feeling of having bills at 16, I was forced to choose between work and school by my vice principal when he showed up at the place I was resting when I ran away from my step-mother's house. That broke my heart to know he also knows the pain of living an adult life while your peers were still living teenage lives. I don't know many people that have experienced this 😢💔 I have a deeper respect and admiration for him and his art now.
Idk how true that is... every account of his life I’ve heard has said he was from an upper middle class family 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

Eddie you are one of a kind!! I first heard your music way back when I was stuck in a war thorn country with bunch of my friends listening to “Ten” late into the night over and over again. It was 1993 and yes “Ten “ was released few years earlier and since my country was in turmoil we were lagging after the rest of the world for a few years. I was 18 and wouldn’t change a thing about anything I have lived trough as well as hearing you guys few years later than rest of the world. Universe brought it into my life at most perfect moment. Life was something of a survival mode mixed with lots of intoxication to bare trough those morbid days filled with innocent people being killed on a daily basis hunger, fear and getting trough it by killing precious memory cells was an perfect option. Life could have been easily lost but since that was our only reality we had no choice but make best out of it and come out “Alive” Thank you Eddie for trying to change the world and make it better place, for letting your true purpose shine trough and in that offer an eye opener to those in need. Love this man, got to talk to him on internet yrs ago. He sang a couple songs. Very sweet man.
I always enjoy hearing things about P.J. and Eddie and how other people came to find the band.e.g. someone told them, heard a song on the radio. I myself had just returned from Okinawa and the first Gulf War and was still pretty freaked about things. I recall driving up I-95 on a swoop home from Lejeune and getting around Baltimore listening to 98 ROCK when I heard my first PJ song. Being in Japan for 26 months I hadn't heard all the new realeases yet and really started catching them on the radio back in the states. I remember Nirvana Teen Spirit was really kicking ass, but than I heard Alive and I was hooked. I didn't understand Eddie's lyrics the first time, but could clearly hear the "I'm still alive". While I know now this is not the meaning of his song, it simply resonated with me about how glad I was to still be alive, even though I was unable to mentally quantify it at the time. Eddie pulled me up with one song, I've been a die-hard fan ever since. Saw my first show in San Diego in 93 freaking legendary.
@mark james I do. I've never shot anyone? Do you always hate with your heart? If so, Vedder hates you, as I'm sure he understands the price of freedom.
...And he's still drop-dead gorgeous! OMG. The PERFECT MAN.
I've met him once, super nice guy. Stopped to chat and even gave me his personal guitar pic. Keep rocking on EV 🤟
Thank you for sharing this. Didn't think I could love or appreciate Eddie anymore than I already do.
@mark james So you are angry. I don't understand your comment. Are you mad at Eddie or me for my comment. I don't agree with Eddie on everything he stands for but I admire that he does take a stand on what he believes in. This whole gun controversy will never come to a conclusion. I wish I knew more about what is bothering you. I hate to see anyone in pain.
@mark james You have lost me here. So Eddie is for gun rights and you lost your child to gun violence. I am very sorry you had to deal with that. I am very sorry for your loss. I am very pro life and Eddie is pro choice. The guy does a lot of positive things but I dont agree with him on everything. He stands up for his beliefs. He has not had an easy life. Maybe cut him a little slack. Hope I didn't upset you more.
@mark james Where are you getting this,? I must have missed an interview somewhere. I watched this one twice. Hating on kids?? As far as the security from the stalker, he made some mistakes along the way by getting too close to fans. That happens. Please reference what you mean about hating on kids. If I owe you an apology, I will apologize.
Im glad I saw this.. I have newfound respect for Eddie..
