Thanks, the aim of this video was in fact to show how a large south italian family gathers to eat authentic local food. I'm glad you liked it, I miss those moments as I only go there for vacation these days.
Hi Dan, you I liked your cuisine adventures in Scotland and now I am a fan. You're great at sharing these food experiences. Italy is always one of the best places to eat! Cheers from Toronto, Canada!
My mom’s side is Grandinetti and they hail from Calabria. I’m not sure which part but now I see the strong influence on the Italian American cuisine at least here in Philadelphia. I also see where they get their LOUDNESS. I am English and Irish on my Dad’s side and we are far more quiet.
I just discovered your channel and this beautiful video. As soon as you had the pasta in front of you, I had to smile: there's no way a Calabrian can eat pasta without (fresh) chillies added on top! A friend originally from Catanzaro always did that and I adopted this style of eating 😊
Loved this video! It’s amazing seeing different cultures especially when food is involved. I would love to have been here. I must start trying to learn Italian 🤣
The cauldron full of bones, fat and pork rinds that you see in the first part of the video in my small town is called "A Quadara". For us Calabrians, this is a real ritual that takes place after having slaughtered the pig.
@@DanFandelli I know very well, in my family up to about fifteen years ago we slaughtered pork, unfortunately this custom has been lost as the grandparents got older and some of them died. Where have you been in Calabria? It seems to me that you are of Calabrian origin, I have many distant relatives in Canada and Argentina.
I’m from the province of Reggio Calabria and been living there until 5 years ago actually. I still go back to my hometown every year and im lucky to have a nonna who still spoils me with her traditional cooking!
Mate that’s beautiful. Keep up the beautiful tradition even though I’m half Sicilian and half calabrese. Viva Calabria e Forza Italia. Best wishes from a spaghetti eating Australian. Ciao e bouna Fortuna per tutti.
You have just eaten what would be my favorite meal, start to finish!! Ending with a blood orange!! Was this your family or just folks you met along the way? Awesome!!
Awesome video.. I don’t know if it’s the Southern Italian in me, but was funny because when food is so good I do the same as you, shaking my head left and right! 😅
Nice video I live in America but were not as loud as this its probably just a culture thing but what do I know but that food looked really good keep making videos you'll get far and have a great day or night 😀👍

Thank you for sharing your video. My mother's side of the family came to America from Calabria, Italy. I love to see the food and culture. 😊

Ahaha loved reading this, I was kinda a bit self conscious about showing the world how loud South Italians can be 🤣🤣

Thanks for watching Domi! That's exactly it, any pasta with tomato sauce in Calabria really calls for fresh chilli and grated Parmigiano on top! :D
@@DanFandelli those are some AMAZING Mexican costilla tomatada

Thank you, I kinda wanted to share what a typical culinary family gathering in south Italy looks like 😆
@@DanFandelli you did a good job doing that 😊

100% agreed, I grew up in Calabria and the pork cauldron day was a magical day, of family reunion, laughter, food, wine and happiness.

Those are all relatives of mine actually, they invited me for lunch 😄 thanks for watching!
Love the culture and foods! this is so different from the Ireland street food, so very cool to watch! Also mouthwatering!!! haha
Thank you, yep definitely a big cultural difference between Ireland and South Italy ahah
Never been in Calabria before. But must visit this part of Italy next time when I'm going to Italy again. Beautiful country and great food.😊
Absolutely, it’s such an underrated place! Everyone goes to Sicily but Calabria is also great and so unexplored!

That’s very interesting thanks, I didn’t think there was a related American term for those types of oranges!
